The Glass Castle Analysis
Glass Castle The Glass Castle, is a memoir, written by Jeannette Walls about her life and her
families uncommon way of living. From a young age Walls and her family were always moving
around and stirring up a little trouble wherever they went. The family faces many problems because
of the way they lived including keeping food on the table, an alcoholic father, and a stable living
situation. Even though the familyhad all these problems, all of the Walls children grew up to do
great things in the world. Although Walls tone changes as she grows older, Walls uses an
underlying ironic and humorous tone through the whole book with the use of diction, detail, and
dialogue.
Using vibrant word choice Walls displays an underlying ironic tone. After Walls burns herself at
a young age, she is forced to go to the hospital where a nurse gives her chewing gum for the first
time. When her mom found out about it she said It was a disgusting low class habit (12). At this
point in the story the readers do not know exactly how bad the family s financial situation is, but
they do know that the family is living in a trailer home. In addition, at the start of the book Walls
recalled a time when she watched her mom dig through a trash can,so her saying that chewing
gum is disgusting and a low class habit is ironic and hypocritical considering she digs through the
trash. Walls had a great amount of respect for her dad, and she also looked up to him. Everytime
he was mentioned in the book

Relationship Between State and Local Government Essay
Forms of Local Government
The basis for county, city and special district governing and authority are laid out in the State
Constitution and Government Code. Counties in California are responsible for providing limited
services to unincorporated areas. The state Legislature created the Local Agency Formation
Commission (LAFCO) in 1963 to control local government fragmentation. The Local Agency
Formation Commission (LAFCO) gives counties the power to tax, create special districts and annex
unincorporated land to cities in the county (League of Women Voters, 1992).
There are three classes of county government. The main differences are in the organization and
selection of governing bodies and officers. General Law counties elect ... Show more content on

Municipalities may also provide parks, public housing, and various utility services. Cities are
required to develop a general plan, environmental reports and review of their capital
improvements program (League of California Cities, n.d.). Charter municipalities may have
increased powers, requiring a vote for adoption and amendment. Incorporated cities and towns
have the power to levy taxes. Special districts provide focused service. They only serve specific
designated areas and provide only one service. That service is a public service or program
constitutes want. While county and city service are mandated by federal and state government,
special districts provide what the public wants. Local agency loss of property tax revenue and
competition for existing revenue leaves fewer dollars for services. Residents and landowners can
form a district to pay for an increased level of service or other services they desire. Local citizens
can receive services at the price they are willing to pay (League of Women Voters, 1992).
Special districts are not state government. They are accountable to the voters. State government
does look over financial reports and requires state law be followed for public meetings, bonded
debt, record keeping and elections. They provide public services and infrastructure that help
communities but not direct economic development (CSDA, n.d.).

Snare Drum History
A paradiddle is a rudiment used to practice accents and tempo on the snare drum. Once one learns
the paradiddle, it could be identified in nearly every rock song. However, without the snare drum,
the paradiddle would not have that same groove that it does today. Meaning that music would not
be the same either. The snare drumis the catalyst for a clear majority of the music played today.
The snare drum dates to as far as 6000 BCE in Mesopotamia. Back then, it was simply a square
piece of clay that could be hit with a stick. The idea of a strand on the drum did not exist until the
1400s with the Tabor at its prime. The Swiss and Ottoman empires used it during military
expeditions. The Tabor evolved into what s known as a field drum , which is a larger drum that
was carried by a strap. This drum still rattled every time it was struck. It wasn t until the 1600s
that there was a screw used to hold the cover of the drum down. This gave the drum the sharp and
tight snapping sound heard today. It could be argued that once the drum was made of brass, that s
when it became known as the snare drum.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why? Because there s nothing like it. It s typically a small drum, but it can have a variety of
sounds that affect the tone and tempo of a song. The very composition of the snare itself makes
a huge difference. For instance, a triple flanged hooped snare would ring longer, making the
strikes, and rolls more intense, or more melodic. Also, metal shells are more durable, allowing
heavier rim shots that add a heavier feel to a song. Muffling the snare can also incredibly impact
the sound. Some drummers tend not to muffle it at all, leaving the sound to be pure and
unadulterated. Some drummers muffle the snare to the point where the sound is more felt and less
heard. All types of snare drums serve their purpose as a staple in any drum kit for many genres of

Woman At Point Zero By Nawal El Saadawi
Nawal El Saadawi s novel, Woman at Point Zero, can be considered to be a rebellion against
authoritarian political and patriarchal structures because it tells of Firdaus life story in way that
shows an obvious discontent with the way society views women and the way it glorifies aspects
that go again societal norms. Saadawi places a large emphasis on the descriptions of eyes in the
novel to express Firdaus feelings towards certain characters. Firdaus starts out having a happy
childhood, when she is cared for and loved by her mother. She describes her mother s eyes in this
way, They were eyes that I watched. They were eyes that watched me. Even when I disappeared

They were not the eyes that held me up each time I was at the point of falling . This drastic shift
in her description signifies the change in emotions that Firdaus feels for her mother, just like
how her feelings for her teacher and Ibrahim are eventually altered as well. The manner in which
Firdaus describes traumatic events that occur within her childhood serves as a form of rebellion
against the society in which she grew up. One event that drastically changes Firdaus life is her
clitoridectomy. This surgery is performed when she is a child and without her consent. It causes
her to lose feelings of sexual pleasure as evidenced by I closed my eyes and tried to reach the
pleasure I had known before but in vain. It was as if I could no longer recall the exact spot from
which it used to arise, or as though a part of me, of my being, was gone and would never return .

her opinion that she is dissatisfied with feeling nothing during intercourse But I want to feel,

Alfred Hitchcock The Birds Essay
The greatest art in films is by the means of the ability to create an emotion in the viewers of the
film and by the means of and imagery. Alfred Hitchcock, for a long time, has been a household
name since he began filmmaking. Hitchcock has been able to accumulate a well known and
distinct cinematic techniques making him stand out as one of the best filmmakers around the
globe. What makes Hitchcock s films must watch movies are how he draws his viewers emotion
and leave them in suspense (Maher 246). Hitchcock s The Birds is an American horror filmdropped
in 1963. The film is loosely rooted in the 1952 story of Daphne Du Maurier and focuses on a
sudden series, unexplained powerful and violent birds attacking the people of Bodega Bay... Show

Among the visual techniques employed in these films is the lighting. Even though it is a pathetic
fallacy, the lighting atmosphere is very bright and colorful in the film. The Birds is set in many
scenes to reflect the characters behaviors in the scenes (Maher 248). Again, towards the end of
the bright lighting, a dark color is presented to create an eerie atmosphere. For instance, an
excellent use of lighting is offered in the dead farmer s scene. Here, lighting symbolizes the mood
in the scene. It starts with Lydia trekking down in a very bright sunlight, the light dims as she
approaches the door. Inside the house, there is a window with natural light although no false in the
house. Even so, the absence of light suggests a bad situation, which the audience is left to figure
out. The director uses this to create unease with the observer.
The use of lighting in today s cinematography has great impacts on the intended audience. The main
characters in modern movies are usually directed in key lights. Generally, the lights on these key
objects are brighter than the fill light and the backlight. Light is targeted to give clarity of the
image, to quest for better realism and to create an atmosphere of emotions (Cohen 127). Lightings,
in particular, are fundamental tools in manipulating the audiences response to narrative events and
characters.
The use of camera narration is another Hitchcockian technique that heightens the level of suspense
in both The Birds and Identity

Adam Lanza Case
As a child Adam lanza had little contact with his father and was not properly nurtured by his
mother and the school he attended. As a result, his mental issues were allowed to get out of control
and he ended up committing a horrendous crime. Everyone remembers the events that occurred at
Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Before Adam Lanza decided to go to
Sandy Hookwith a gun, he attended there as a child. In 1998, Lanza began first grade and
received speech and language services along with occupational therapy. When Lanza arrived in
second grade he was removed from occupational therapy and in fourth grade was removed from all
special education. This lead Mrs. Lanza, his mother, to write the school a letter voicing her concern.

Lanza wrote to friends she clearly addressed that her husband wasn t spending enough time with
their father. The only time Mr. Lanza wanted to be a father to Adam and Ryan Lanza was when
it was fun and the actual parenting wasn t needed. Mr. Lanza gradually became an aloof father,
with him being a fairweather father, Adam wasn t allowed the type of nurturing a boy needs
from a father. Mr. Lanza never imagined the kind of nurturing his son Adam would need as he
was developing and growing. The influential lack of nurturing was present consistently in the
early years of Adam Lanza s life. Even though most of it occurred when he was a child, the lack
of nurturement in Adam s life was there, slightly or considerably, while he was developing and
growing. Nurturement wasn t only lacking from his father and his school, his mother also couldn t
imagine how much nurturing it would take to nurture Adam. As an adolescent, Adam had mental
problems which were diagnosed by doctors, but these problems were never nurtured. HIs mother
was a key component to never having his problems nurtured. At 13 years old Adam was taken to
the Emergency Room by his mother for a crisis evaluation . The only reason to bring Adam to the
Emergency Room was to get a medical note saying he could stay out of school.

King Lear Madness Essay
What defines madness? Is it a state of being that is derived from deterioration of the brain, or is it
just extremely foolish behavior created by mayhem and chaos? Perhaps, it is a collaboration of the
two, for without sane cognition the basis of irrationality would not be present, such is the case of
King Lear. He is a man riddled with madness inside and out, yet through his state of frenzy and
turmoil, Lear unveils unexpected guidance, validity, and enlightenment. It seems impossible for
two opposing ideas to have subsequent logical soundness, but it is the goal of this essay to clearly
defend the paradox that exist between madness and truth. King Lear, illustrates a paradox of how
madness illuminates the truth by demonstrating how an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
348) Also, through centuries of research, madness has been known as a condition that can be
caused by a combination of biological, psychological, or environmental conditions, which can be
associated to: a traumatic event, genetics or any type of abuse. Therefore, by defining,
characterizing, and examining the condition of madness, it is equally important to point out similar
behavior displayed by King Lear. Lear s deeds provide key insight into the condition plaguing his
mind. For example,
Shakespeare begins by introducing the reader to Lear s madness in the opening scene of the
play: Tell me, my daughters...Which of you shall we say doth love us most? That we our largest
bounty may extend Where nature doth with merit challenge (Shakespeare 1.1.47, 50 52). Lear s
initial intent of shifting power to his daughters is equitable to that of a retired old man, who
wishes to shake all care...while we unburthened crawl toward death, (Shakespeare 1.1.38, 40).
However, in the exact moment that Lear allocates his well being to his daughters, the entire
dynamics of their relationship has thus transcended from parent to child. His status has become
situated to a lower hierarchy, and can be seen as a foreboding on his mind as well as his country.
Rebecca Munson symbolically makes this connection when she states, any inversion of sovereignty,

Genetically Modified Foods Should Be Banned
On January 15, 2015 Juan Ramos suffered a violent allergic reaction after eating a bacon lettuce
and tomato sandwich for lunch. He died an hour after being taken to the hospital. The cause of
his death was determined to be sea food allergy. Any chance of cross contamination of his
sandwich with sea food was ruled out after forensic investigation. How did Mr Ramos who was a
known allergy sufferer reach this fate? The answer lay in the tomatoes that he had eaten for lunch;
they not only contained fish related allergens but also contained antibiotic resistant genes which
prevented Mr Ramos immune system from protecting his body (Billups). The question that comes
to mind now is how could something related to seafood be found in a vegetable? This is where
genetically modified foods enter the picture. Genetically modified foods are unnaturally produced.
Their consumption has been linked with several serious health disorders including cancer. Presence
of genetically modified foodin the market must be banned. This is a weakly regulated practice and
is not only damaging human health but is also slowly but steadily affecting the environment.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO) were introduced into the market in the 1980 s. In North
America, over 80% of our food contains GMO s ( GMO s and Your Family ). They are created by
splicing the genes of two organisms to introduce the desired characteristics of one organism into the

A porcelain face untouched by time, pearls galore, lace [insert more common characteristics] в€’
this is how one imagines Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen . Even more importantly this is how she
wanted to be viewed. To say portraits of the Protestant monarch that played a key role in her
transformation into such an icon of agelessness and beauty, are purely propagandais debatable. That
being said, the concept of propaganda is one of a rich and evolving history. What today s society
views as propaganda is obscured by the negative connotation of the very word itself. On the other
hand, when looking at the discourse of propaganda in relation to the time of Elizabeth I s reign and

Rather than being seen as the end of the Tudor dynasty due to her inability to marry and produce
an heir, she presents herself as the Virgin Queen, married to her people. Her reign is her
marriage. This concept is rooted once again like her gender in truth and is addressed in many of
her portraits. This too was exaggerated to heighten her to divine ruler status. At the beginning of
her reign portraits showed her as eligible to marry. But by the late 1570s her transition into the
Virgin Queen was in full effect and her portraits were a means to spread this new image. One of
the countless portraits to propagate it was The Rainbow Portrait painted around 1600 03. The
portrait is saturated with symbols of her divine virginity. She is once again, like The Armada
Portrait adorned with pearls, a sign of purity. Pearls are in her veil and headdress, connecting her
sovereignty with the purity of the pearls. The veil shows her as a maiden bride, but one to her
people and faithful to them. There are also some symbols in the portrait with mythical

Saturn Devouring His Son
Saturn Devouring His Son
Saturn Devouring His Son is a name given to a mural painting painted by Francisco Jose de
Goya y Lucientes during year 1820 to 1823 at his house Quinta del Sordo (Villa of The Deaf
Man) which is located at Spain. He used al secco technique (also called fresco secco) which
means the color pigments are mixed with water and egg york and applied on the moistened
plaster. This painting was painted in oils on one of the wall of his dining room. Goya showed
Saturn crouched in the centre of the painting with expanded face, bulging eyes and widely opened
mouth which he was consuming a smaller human figure with his fists had clenched into it. A

His sixth child Jupiter (Zeus) survived because his wife, Ops (Rhea) tricked on him. Jupiter later
overthrew Saturn and saved all his five brothers and sisters which still survived inside their father s
stomach.
Goya might inspired by Peter Paul Rubens who also previously painted a Saturn Devouring His Son
on 1636. But Goya s Saturn Devouring His Son is different with Rubens s. Rubens s Saturn was
painted less cannibalistic whereas Goya s Saturn is more cannibal as he emphasized on Saturn s
expression.
However, Wright (1993, p.51) had written that Rubens s is more horrific as viewer s sympathy
is straight drop on the innocent baby yet to be eaten. There is also another difference spotted.
Rubens s painted an innocent child whereas Goya painted a cadaver that looked like a younger
adult. In Goya s painting, the cadaver was in long legged, round buttocks and wide hips. The
gender of the young adult is remained unknown as there is headless and not facing to us. But some
experts suggested that the cadaver was a female young adult due to Goya s later love life.
Emotionalism aspect also can be seen in this painting. The public is curious why Goya painted
Saturn. Some historians suggested that this is related to Goya s son, Javier. Goya and his wife,
Josefa, had plenty of children but only Javier

A concentration camp is where prisoners of war, enemy aliens, and political prisoners are detained

another way to look at it. If the parent or teacher can incorporate something that the child is

of the series was scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at San Francisco s Candlestick Park. Just prior
to the game, at 5:04 p.m., with live cameras on the field, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake called the
Loma Prieta rocked the San Francisco Bay region. The epicenter is located at Loma Prieta peak in
the Santa Cruz Mountains. Though the stadium withstood the shaking, other parts of the Bay Area
were not as fortunate. Sixty seven people died as a result of the quake, which lasted around 15
seconds, while more than 3,757 others were injured. San Francisco s Marina district suffered
extensive damage. Built on an area where there was no underlying bedrock, the

Juvenile Crime Is One Of The Country s Not Joking Issues...
Juvenile crime is one of the country s not joking issues. Worry about it is shared through elected,
state, and neighborhood government authorities and through people in general. In the United
States, age cut off points of juveniles change, the most extreme age being set at 14 years in a few
states and as high as 21 years in others. The 16 to 20 year age gather, considered grown up in
many spots, has one of the most unusual occurrences of actual crime. A large degree of grown up
criminals has a foundation of early misconduct. Burglary is the most well known offense through
children s; more genuine property violations and assault are most as often as possible submitted in
later youth. The reasons for such conduct, similar to those of crime, as a rule, are found in a
complex of mental, social, and monetary components. Clinical reviews have revealed passionate
instabilities, more often than not emerging from confused family circumstances, in many
delinquents (John T. Whitehead, 2015).
For this particular discussion, we will focus on three contributing factors that are linked to Juvenile
Delinquency. The three we will be discussing are, family dynamics, mental health and social class.
Social class
The social imbalance is an issue that causes hurt in a developing society. This issue offers different
qualities, however, causes stress and turmoil in the meantime. Societal position can adjust the way
we see things and the open doors that are displayed to particular people. Being

Essay on The Role of Men and Women
In order to fully comprehend and appreciate the implication of literature and the power it has to
elucidate upon life s various facets, it is imperative to compare and contrast various works,
which possess certain concepts and beliefs that are common. No Exit by Jean Paul Satre and
Night Flight by Antoine De Saint Exupery are two works of literature that share certain ideas
and concepts, one of which is the exemplification of the different roles that men and women play
in society and how they have been conformed to occupy certain positions. No Exit and Night
Flight are two stories that explore the roles of men and women in society. However, a literary
analysis and comparison of these two works reveals two very different sides of the... Show more

In my opinion, gender roles are being challenged today to a certain degree, but in order for us to
become more open minded, it is imperative to find a central path between the two extremes. While
it is important for us to maintain our physiological differences and fulfill certain individual
responsibilities, it is equally important for women to assume more significant roles outside the
household and to realize their full potential.
No Exit, by Jean Paul Satre follows three characters who have been condemned to hell , for the evil
deeds committed by them. Here, Satre has represented hell, not in its biblical or Christian sense,
where the sinners and transgressors are tortured, but as a room, with no windows and only one
door, and where the inhabitants are left alone with their thoughts and the other persons that reside
therein.
As the play unfolds, the audience is made aware of the sins committed by the individuals that have
caused them to be here, including adultery, murder and cowardice. Through this explication, the
author has showed us the differing gender roles adopted by men and women but more importantly
how certain individuals will tend to deviate from these norms. Though the expected norm is for a
man to be brave and fearless, Joseph Garcin is a coward and refuses to accept his responsibilities,
made abundantly clear by his

Normative Expectations
As I have grown older I have thought about how, where I live has shaped my life. I have moved
two times in my life, I was born out of the country and I moved to an urban town in New Jersey
when I was two, then when I was eight I moved to a suburban town. I think about the possibility
of having lived two differents life s from the one I live now. My town is the typical middle class
town that is seen on t.v. With only three schools in the district everyone is bound to know each
other. The geographic location is very simple everything is within walking distance, the schools,
the playground, and the shops. Where I live has shaped me to become a very observant individual.

I became more aware of how my elder neighbors interacted with my family. I noticed that they had
very pretentious attitudes and they were always quick to point out our differences. Because of my
new geographic location, my expectations about others changed. I went from believing that
everyone treated each other equally to realizing that racism exist in this world. As a member of my
community I did not focus on the negativity but instead on the positive aspects that make this town
great, which is education. My normative expectations is that every student goes to college and
creates a meaningful career for themselves. My perspective is not much different from my parent s
perspective. The only differences is that they did not have the opportunities that I have. They grew
up in Central America which shaped their expectations for their family. My father fought hard to
achieve the American Dream and gave us a better life. My parents expect my brothers and I to have
high academic standards and live a wholesome life. Their expectations help shape my normative
perspectives. Which is why I had trouble understanding why some high school students do not

Universal Design For Learning Essay
I chose to read an article about Universal Design for Learning. This was a learning theory that I
had not heard about before. This theory covers a wide range of learning styles for children along
with multiple strategies. The Universal Design for Learning Theory ensures that students are
provided with a variety of engaging strategies in order to best meet each student s individual needs.
A large component of Universal Design for Learning is text comprehension. This theory
understands that comprehension doesn t just come after reading a selection of text, but takes time
and will grow after students develop more maturity, socialize with others and gain more schema.
Students are encouraged to make connections through a wide range of methods.
In order to increase their text to text connections, students are encouraged to bring in books from
home that align with what they are learning, create compare/contrast diagrams, debate over two
similar books and compare books in literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, I have been a little confused with how to best teach my students comprehension. This
article has opened a window toward personal professional understanding in the area of teaching

to make each type of connection. Many of which are fairly easy and can be done in a timely
manner. I will make it a professional goal to provide my students with more of these opportunities
to connect with what we are learning. If I am able to successfully integrate some of these activities
in my classroom, I know my students will greatly benefit from the exposure. They will become
more independent and informed worldly thinkers. All I have to do is assist each child in
overcoming their barriers, and they can all become better readers, thinkers, writers, listeners and

Sino Soviet Relations
To what extent was the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations in the years 1958 69 due to personal
rivalries?
The deterioration in Sino Soviet relations between 1958 1969 is due to a number of different
factorssome historians argue that conflicting personal rivalries between Mao and Khrushchev
contributed to the split until 1964, however other historians argue that other factors influenced the
deterioration. For example both sides were ideologically different, this can be seen as they were
both pursuing different methods of achieving communism, and during many occasions they
disagreed with each other. However the most significant factor causing the split was their
conflicting national interests, as although without the existing personal ... Show more content on

This shows a clear confliction in national interests, and a cause for a deterioration in Sino Soviet
relations was the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Due to this, Mao introduced his policy of
active defence towards the USSR and this was because of his paranoia that the USSR could try to
assert dominance over China. This shows a clear confliction of national interests as the USSR was
preventing China from expansion and this added to the initial ideological and personality disputes
stated above. Therefore the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was due to conflicting national
interests more than personality and ideological clashes as from this, both sides clearly wanted
different things, conflict between them was inevitable.
Finally another argument that some historians put forward is the Ussuri River dispute in 1969
where both sides shared a common border. This was one of the most important reasons for the
deterioration in relations because it was the first time both sides came into direct conflict with the
other during this in which on the first day, over 30 Soviet soldiers died. This showed a direct cause
for deterioration in relations, because two countries cannot be allies if they are constantly at
fighting with one another. These border disputes had been ongoing for many years, showing that a
fundamental cause for the deterioration in relations between the

Early Years Foundation Stage
The early year s foundation stage has been in place since September 2008.Early years foundation
stage is a play based curriculum for children from birth to five years which allow them to explore
their learning and development through play.
The five weeks continuous provision plan targeted a group of 8 children in the early year s class
(reception class) and was built on the EYFS framework. The plan focused on the communication
and language prime areas of EYFS. It was also supported by theories by F Skimmer and Chomsky.
The reason this plan was focused on the communication and language areas of EYFS is the
realization that many early learners lack or have insufficient communication skills, in comparison

Under operant condition, practitioners should use continuous reinforcement and intermittent

the principles of generative grammar and cognitive theory. These theories postulations are built on
the premises of language construction and use. The main postulate of Chomsky s on which the
current continuous provision plan was based is the assertion that knowledge and skills are obtained
through life s experiences, formal education and the practical application or understanding of a
concept. Also, learning involves practical as well as the theoretical understanding of topics and
subjects.
Chomsky s theory of generative grammar emphasizes the importance of taking and storing of

need for previously stored knowledge to which newly inserted knowledge and information s added

Farm Girl
Summary of Farm Girl
Anderson Jude
ENG 115 Professor Chris Swindell
Strayer University
October 23rd, 2013
The short story Farm Girl is an in depth look at life through the eyes of a young girl growing up
with her family on a farm. Throughout this non fiction story the author Jessica Hemauer, does an
amazing job of describing her surroundings to pull the reader in and make them feel like they are
there with her. She begins as a younger girl describing how difficult it is for a child to awake from
a deep slumber, and immediately get to work doing jobs some grown men would cringe at.
Cleaning out various huts and pens and laying down fresh straw are part of our daily duties
(Hemauer, 2011 p. 84). She continues by explaining how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She uses her years of experience from working on the farm to her advantage, and is finally able
to do all the things she has always thought to be impossible. I join the homecoming club, audition
for musicals and plays, serve as the president of the student council as well as president of my
class (Hemauer, 2011 p. 86). Before ending the story she tells the reader how all of her activities
have not made her feel any less different then she did before. However, she comes to the
realization that if it had not been for all of those years of hard work on the farm, then she would
not be able to manage her time as well as she does to be able to participate in all those activities,
and at the same time hold down a job, and perform better than others in the work place (Hemauer,
2011).
The entire story I felt as if I was there on the farm with the young girl. I was drawn to read it more
than once not because it was difficult to understand, but because the descriptions were so vivid I
did not want to overlook anything. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short story Farm Girl, and
would recommend it to anyone that is looking for an interesting story to read.

Policies and Politics of Government in Charge of a Public...
Policies and Politics of Government in Change of a Public Agency:
Government policy can be described as the declaration that defines the objective of the priorities
and goals of the government. Since these policies outline the rules, role, and procedures, they
develop a framework in which the government and its citizens can carry out their specific duties.
The public policies are created by all governmental levels and target the entire population or
particular groups. The process of developing these policies involves the engagement of
governmental officials and citizens. On the other hand, politics of government provide the platform
for the development, establishment, and implementation of public policy. Therefore, the politics of
government are the platform with which public policies are adopted and implemented.
Governmental policies and politics play a critical role in the realization of change in a public
agency since the policies are developed and implemented at various levels (Dukeshire Thurlow,
2002). Since these policies may range from formal regulations and legislation to informal guidelines
in an agency, understanding them is important in the achievement of change in a public agency. A
Public agency basically functions based on the established policies and politics in the government.
Therefore, the accomplishment of the change in a public agency requires an increased
understanding of the politics and policies of government. It s important to understand

Dbq Cherokee Indian Removal
All men are equal but not the Cherokees? It was not necessary for the Cherokees to be removed
from their land because the Cherokee had many rights and many of them were violated by the

not. For they were removed inhumanely while attempting to save their nation from being wiped off

The Cherokee indians were being forced out of the land that rightfully belonged to them. During the

theirs for natural resources, gold, and land that the United States of America said that belonged to

Why We Should Reclaim The Appalachian Mountain
As a young Kentuckian, I recognize the importance of coal to the world s energy supply and its
increasing use worldwide. Coal does indeed power the nation, but at what cost? At the cost of
Appalachian qualities of life, at the cost of their health, the environment, and the economy. No one
should suffer like the Appalachian region has due to the extensive devastation resulting from
mountaintop removal. We, as a country, should stand up and defend Appalachia. We should come
up with clean alternative energy sources or methods of obtaining coalrather than explosively
destroying the entire Appalachian region one mountaintop at a time. We call upon anyone who is
eager to learn more about coal and mountaintop removal to get educated and involve yourself in the
fight to reclaim the Appalachian mountains for the environment and the well being of our nation.
After weeks of in depth research, I feel that I am well educated on the issue of mountaintop
removal. I have seen many of the negative side effects of the blasting, harvesting, mining, and
reclamation of the mountains and its impact on the environment. The natives of Appalachia, as
well as in many nearby regions, are exposed to harmful toxins in the air, water and even the land.
The mining business is dangerous and risky. It puts the miners in peril on the job and brings worry
to the families waiting for them back home. I realize the danger and costs of mountaintop removal
and will begin with a simple question: is coal worth it?

Danimal in South Africa Case Study Assignment

Why Danone developed Danimal yogurt for the South African market
South Africa had a big income inequality gap with its market being at the bottom of the pyramid
with more than half of the population in the 4 5 tier range having less than $1500 in purchasing
power parity in US dollars. Danone wanted to capture the market by introducing a low priced
product to the low income people. With research by local Universities and the SA Medical
Research Council, the benefits of of Danimal were promising. It was found that the probiotic
cultures in yoghurt were beneficial for children and also that a product needed to be produced ...

Is Danone successful in addressing the needs of the bottom of the pyramid? What can they do
better?
Pretorious had the 4P s in mind when product was developed. The price was initially set at R1.00
in 2005. This was beneficial since the transaction would require one coin interaction which made it
simple and valuable for the targeted children s market. To avoid additional margins added onto the
final price, the price was printed on the lid. Danone themselves just broke even with no profits.
To address nutritional shortcomings in the typical diet of a child from a poor family especially
vitamin A, iron and zinc the company wanted to enrich the yoghurt with these nutrients. The
yoghurt also needed an extended long shelf life due to lack of electricity and fridges.
Danone promoted their product, by associating the name Danimal . Danimal was combination of
Danone and animal , which gave a sense of pride in Africa. A colorful energetic leopard as the logo
appealed to children, while the nutritional facts appealed to the adults.
They created a product for the bottom of the pyramid that was initially introduced into the Gauteng
province but later expanded into two other provinces, Kwazulu Natal and the Free State.
I think that Danone did a great job by providing the needs of the bottom of the pyramid. They spent
little money and used existing equipment with no marketing. They made a product that was

6; Terry, 2011). Feldman s description of development conforms to Hawkins (n.d.) design of the
different systems symbolized by his concentric circles regarding the development of a person s
personality. According to Hart (1999), Wilson (2001), and Backus and Chapian (2000) to
change the way one thinks it is necessary to effect change in one s live because thoughts
influence how events and other people are perceived. Everyone has different influences in their
lives, from families to beliefs to economic situations; therefore, each person is a distinct and
unique individual. Model of Health In Maslow s hierarchy of needs there are five levels of
desires or basic needs that motivate people described (Fiest amp; Fiest, 2009, pg. 280). Starting
with the most basic needs for survival the levels are physiological, safety, love and
belongingness, esteem, and self actualization (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 280). As one need is met an
attempt is made to achieve the next level. If one is able to reach what is known as self
actualization, the highest level, values such as truth, justice, beauty simplicity, individuality,
balance, and harmony are usually greatly respected (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 283 and McMinn, 1996).
As McMinn points out that these values are extraordinarily like the fruit of the Spirit as described
by Paul in Galatians 5:22 23, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self
control. If one has attained

How Does Shakespeare s King Lear And Alejandro Gonzalez...
How do Shakespeare s King Lear and Alejandro Gonzalez s Birdman use literary and film
techniques to explore the complex dynamics of power, social position, and age? Shakespeare and
Alejandro Gonzalez both successfully convey how an individual is treated due to their power,
social position, and age, in their respective texts King Learand Birdman. Both portray the main
character as an individual who has lost their power and must overcome the challenges that come of
this. These characters also must endure society s treatment of them due to their old age, especially
from their younger counterparts. The authors also exhibit how each individual is treated by society
due to their social position at the time. Both authors have the idea of... Show more content on

She then goes on to say that he is not the only one fighting to be relevant and that he is terrified,
like the rest of us, that he doesn t matter . This dialogue signifies something that the audience fears,
being forgotten by society, and further conveys this to them by exhibiting a character that this
affects. A motif of nakedness is also incorporated in the film. This occurs when Riggan is about
to perform a preview of his production. He gets locked out of the back of the theatre and must
run through the streets in only his underwear. It is this scene though that provides Riggan his
chance to become relevant, as he is filmed by a pedestrian and uploaded to YouTube. It is later
that Sam refers to this video as power for Riggan. This just shows what is classed as power in the
twenty first century, and the audience can understand this when looking at celebrities and their
dominance on social media. This motif of nakedness is also present in Shakespeare s King Lear.
In this story, Shakespeare writes of a king who gives his power to his daughters only for them to
overthrow him completely and banish him from the kingdom. However, unlike in Birdman
where the character gains power, this motif occurs to symbolize Lear s complete loss of power.
As without his lavish clothes that reveal his regal status, he is no different to a farmer. The crown
that Lear wore is also symbolic of his power. As when Lear splits his kingdom up in two for his
daughters to rule,

Developing a Performance Appraisal System
Developing a Performance Appraisal System Kimberly Garnett HSM/220 April 3, 2011
Developing A Performance Appraisal System In order for the design and administration of a
performance appraisal system; to be effective; managers and employees must communicate on a
regular basis. Allan and Rosenberg (1981) stated, Performance appraisal system plays a number of
roles in an organization that s geared towards achieving the company s goals and mission.
Beginning at the corporate level, values, behaviors, and goals should be identified; these must
support the company s strategic mission and promote the success of the business. The basic
purpose of performance appraisal system involves two parts, (1) an evaluation system, the

Different Approaches According to Allan amp; Rosenberg (1981), the system should be based
on behavior results; not ambiguous employee characteristics. The appraisals should be reviewed
by higher level managers or human resource manager; there should be a formal appeal
mechanism or system providing an avenue of appeal to employees who are dissatisfied with
their evaluations; and performing counseling, guidance and or training should be provided to
help poor performers improve their performance. Supervisors need to know his or her workers, so
that he or she has opportunities to steer them towards greater productivity and optimized output.
The steps supervisors must take to ensure successful evaluation, and constructive outcomes are:
(1) Training (2) Evaluation (3) Review Successful training is the implementation of a system in
which everyone in the workplace is geared toward improvement. This involves a hands on
approach in which the employee is encouraged to evaluate him or herself under the supervisor.
Results based approach to performance appraisal is the most object method of tackling the
complex task of evaluation. Designing a Strategic Performance appraisal system, (2011). Key
elements. Of an effective performance appraisal system are as follows: 1. Clearly defined
performance standards 2. An effective monitoring system 3. Regular discussions of Performance 4.

Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed
on them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is
known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as
more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a
motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform
better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when
they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping
means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your
skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a
tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may
begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result
from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack
recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this
may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful
can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what

Labeling Theories And Labeling Theory
Labeling theory focuses on the formal and informal application of stigmatization of deviant
labels or social tags by society on some of its members. The process of labeling involves an
engagement of Social groups [that] create deviance by making the rules whose infraction
constitutes deviance, and by applying those rules to particular people and labeling them as
outsiders. From this point of view deviance is not a quality of the act the person commits, but
rather a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender. (Becker
1963). This theorytreats such labels as both dependent and independent variables. Exclusively, it
views labels as dependent or effect variable when it attempts to explain why certain behaviors are
socially defined as wrong and certain individuals are socially selected and linked to such labels;
ultimately, stigmatizing the person as deviant. In contrast, labeling theory also views labels as the
independent factors or causes when it hypothesizes that discrediting labels cause continuation and
escalation of the criminal or delinquent behavior. Labeling theory tries to explain the differential
application of official stigmatizing labels. Labeling theory emerged as a perspective rather that a
scientific theory (Cohn and Farrington 2012). After an initial enthusiasm in the 60 s and 70 s the
theory followed disillusionment in the 90 s. It wasn t until the early 2000 s that scholars tried to
revive the theory. The aim of

Ander to Remorse in the Excerpt, Learning to Read by...
Every author has a different writing style in comparison. They convey their messages in multiple
ways; using different tones to evoke certain moods on their readers. Some authors use a few
different ways to catch their audiences attention; persuading them using logic, ethics and emotion.
In the excerpt Learning to Read by Malcolm X, he uses logic and emotion to persuade his
audience. By using anger to evoke remorse in his readers. Malcolm X references historical events
to convey his message. Malcolm X has a vast audience in this writing. He did not write for one
particular person or group. Malcolm X wants to inform and persuade an individual who is not
aware of what he has discovered. He wanted others to know of the information he discovered of
the horror the slaves endured. Books like the one by Frederick Olmstead opened my eyes to the
horrors suffered when the slave was landed in the United States. (Malcolm X). He not only had
proof to share but had multiple references to provide clarity and proof. Malcolm X wrote his
piece by starting in the present, then going back ad forth between the past and present. Doing so
made this piece easy to follow and comprehend. He uses examples from the past to show clarity
in the present. Malcolm X uses an abundance of strong and descriptive words and phrases. He
used the following words to convey his message in a stronger stance: skin game, shameful and
inevitable. The American black man is the worlds most shameful case of

The Disaster Of The Chernobyl Disaster
On the day of April 26, 1986, an event that had affected many people took place, The Chernobyl
Disaster. The radiation cloud had spread over 27 countries. 28 people died within a few weeks as
a result of acute radiation poisoning. The steam explosion and fires had released 5% of the
radioactive reactor core into the atmosphere. 1,100 square miles around the reactor still remain
uninhabitable to this day.
Recently documented, it has been said that over 500,000 people have died from radiation exposure
over the past two decades. 5 8 million people continue to live in the contamination zone causing a

What Is Southwest Airlines Case Study
Recommendation
Over the years Southwest Airlines has steadily grew, but their growth has been highly controlled.
This highly controlled growth has allowed them to avoid the trap of growing beyond their means.
With the acquisition of AirTran Air, it accelerated Southwest Airlines entry into the international
markets. As we hold a large investment in Southwest Airlines, I believe this merger with AirTran Air
will not affect the strategy and culture of Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines strategy and
culture has a history of being successful as well as creating large profits for the company and its
stakeholders. I do see Southwest Airlines maintaining their laser like focus on their basic strategy,
but it will take time to fully transition Southwest Airlines strategy and culture to AirTran Air. With
this said we should retain our investment in Southwest Airlines as the company has been
consistently profitable for decades and has weathered hardships such as, the September 11 terrorist
attacks, and the 2008 2009 recession. While making my decision to retain our investment in
Southwest Airlines I analyzed Southwest Airlines performance in the U.S airlineindustry, as well as
looked at Southwest s operations, strategy/culture. The advantages to my recommendation of
retaining our investment in Southwest Airlines is that our company could see high returns for our
customers and shareholders. In addition, our investment in Southwest Airlines could increase in
size, which would

Is Iago A Hero Or A Villain
Both, Iago (from Othello) and Roger (from Lord of the Flies) are presented by Shakespeare and
Golding as villains. However in my opinion, Iago is more villainous that Roger. This is evident
through their initial presentations and how their character progresses throughout their respective
pieces; their evil characteristics, motives and how their actions affect the story line and seen by
other characters. A villain is a person who is responsible for trouble, harm or damage as a result of
their wicked or immoral actions. Shakespeare s Iagois an evil character, who performs his actions
consciously and without reason. Shakespearean critic A. C. Bradley said that evil has nowhere else
been portrayed with such mastery as in the evil character of... Show more content on

Iago is first shown to be a manipulative villain and stays the same throughout the entire play.
However, the extent to which he deceives other characters increases as the play progresses. Iago
has been evil all along, although it surfaces gradually. In Act 1 Scene 1 of Othello his trickery
only causes Roderigo to be cheated out of his money, while in Act 2 Scene 3, Iago s deception
causes Roderigo to pick a fight with drunken Cassio, hence causing Cassio to lose his position as
lieutenant. Moreover in Act 5 Scene 2, after he poisons Othello s mind with his carefully crafted
words, Othello murders Desdemona as a result of Iago s manipulation. While Iago does not
become more evil throughout the course of Othello, Roger clearly does. In other words, Roger
goes from the slight and furtive choir boy he was at the beginning of Lord of the Flies, to
descending into savagery at the end of the novel. The earliest you see Roger away from all of
the choir boys is in chapter 4, when he walks out the forest with Maurice. Relieved of fire duty,
they decide to come down for a swim. Roger kicks down the sandcastles Henry and some other
littluns built, causing them only emotional pain. However, soon Henry is sitting alone in the sand,
and from behind a tree Roger threw a stone, but he threw to miss, showing how he was still

Analysis Of Stripped For Parts By Jennifer Khan
Disruption of the Dead In the essay Stripped for Parts written, by Jennifer khan. The general
concept that is addressed is how morbid the process of harvesting dead peoples organs out of
their bodies. The way Khan starts the essay is by using a narrative approach. The narrative
approach helps express the emotion throughout her points she tries to bring up. She uses the story
of a dead old man lying on a table waiting for his organs to be taken out. Throughout this she goes
from giving examples of different doctors, professors, and other professionals. The thesis statement
that grabbed my attention the most is Compared with such micro scare cures, transplants which
consist of salvaging entire organs from a heart beating cadaver and sewing... Show more content on

The main emotion I felt while reading Khans paper was that I was shocked by the process organ
donors go through in their afterlives. It slightly made me angry at some moments as well. On
the first page when Khan brings up different points the one that made me interested was In the
movies, for instance, surgeons tended to say it would take time to find a heart as though one
had been hidden behind a tree or misplaced along with the car keys (123.) This was the point that
brought out the anger emotion that came upon me. The reason I used this quote the was
because she compared how surgeons took time to find these organs to having to find a pair of
keys that were lost, which are two very different concepts. This essay was also very shocking
considering how unaware I was of what a donor even meant. Eventually finding out that not
every organ works in the new host it is planted in. Even though it is not the major concept it
really helps convince the readers. When it is said Sustaining a dead body until its organs can be
harvested is a tricky process requiring the latest in medical technology (124.) This really puts it
into perspective for some readers from what is essentially going on. Also considering it is just
upsetting about how a dead person has had their whole entire lives and is just lying on a table
waiting to be dissected. This approach is added to Khan s essay for the sympathy

  • 2. The Glass Castle Analysis Glass Castle The Glass Castle, is a memoir, written by Jeannette Walls about her life and her families uncommon way of living. From a young age Walls and her family were always moving around and stirring up a little trouble wherever they went. The family faces many problems because of the way they lived including keeping food on the table, an alcoholic father, and a stable living situation. Even though the familyhad all these problems, all of the Walls children grew up to do great things in the world. Although Walls tone changes as she grows older, Walls uses an underlying ironic and humorous tone through the whole book with the use of diction, detail, and dialogue. Using vibrant word choice Walls displays an underlying ironic tone. After Walls burns herself at a young age, she is forced to go to the hospital where a nurse gives her chewing gum for the first time. When her mom found out about it she said It was a disgusting low class habit (12). At this point in the story the readers do not know exactly how bad the family s financial situation is, but they do know that the family is living in a trailer home. In addition, at the start of the book Walls recalled a time when she watched her mom dig through a trash can,so her saying that chewing gum is disgusting and a low class habit is ironic and hypocritical considering she digs through the trash. Walls had a great amount of respect for her dad, and she also looked up to him. Everytime he was mentioned in the book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Relationship Between State and Local Government Essay Forms of Local Government The basis for county, city and special district governing and authority are laid out in the State Constitution and Government Code. Counties in California are responsible for providing limited services to unincorporated areas. The state Legislature created the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) in 1963 to control local government fragmentation. The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) gives counties the power to tax, create special districts and annex unincorporated land to cities in the county (League of Women Voters, 1992). They only serve specific designated areas and provide only one service. That service is a public service or program constitutes want. While county and city service are mandated by federal and state government, special districts provide what the public wants. Local agency loss of property tax revenue and competition for existing revenue leaves fewer dollars for services. Residents and landowners can form a district to pay for an increased level of service or other services they desire. Local citizens can receive services at the price they are willing to pay (League of Women Voters, 1992). Special districts are not state government. They are accountable to the voters. State government does look over financial reports and requires state law be followed for public meetings, bonded debt, record keeping and elections. • 5. Snare Drum History A paradiddle is a rudiment used to practice accents and tempo on the snare drum. Once one learns the paradiddle, it could be identified in nearly every rock song. However, without the snare drum, the paradiddle would not have that same groove that it does today. Meaning that music would not be the same either. The snare drumis the catalyst for a clear majority of the music played today. The snare drum dates to as far as 6000 BCE in Mesopotamia. Back then, it was simply a square piece of clay that could be hit with a stick. The idea of a strand on the drum did not exist until the 1400s with the Tabor at its prime. The Swiss and Ottoman empires used it during military expeditions. The Tabor evolved into what s known as a field drum , which is a larger drum that was carried by a strap. This drum still rattled every time it was struck. It wasn t until the 1600s that there was a screw used to hold the cover of the drum down. This gave the drum the sharp and tight snapping sound heard today. It could be argued that once the drum was made of brass, that s when it became known as the snare drum.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why? Because there s nothing like it. It s typically a small drum, but it can have a variety of sounds that affect the tone and tempo of a song. The very composition of the snare itself makes a huge difference. For instance, a triple flanged hooped snare would ring longer, making the strikes, and rolls more intense, or more melodic. Also, metal shells are more durable, allowing heavier rim shots that add a heavier feel to a song. Muffling the snare can also incredibly impact the sound. Some drummers tend not to muffle it at all, leaving the sound to be pure and unadulterated. Some drummers muffle the snare to the point where the sound is more felt and less heard. All types of snare drums serve their purpose as a staple in any drum kit for many genres of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Woman At Point Zero By Nawal El Saadawi Nawal El Saadawi s novel, Woman at Point Zero, can be considered to be a rebellion against authoritarian political and patriarchal structures because it tells of Firdaus life story in way that shows an obvious discontent with the way society views women and the way it glorifies aspects that go again societal norms. Saadawi places a large emphasis on the descriptions of eyes in the novel to express Firdaus feelings towards certain characters. Firdaus starts out having a happy childhood, when she is cared for and loved by her mother. She describes her mother s eyes in this way, They were eyes that I watched. They were eyes that watched me. Even though it is a pathetic fallacy, the lighting atmosphere is very bright and colorful in the film. The Birds is set in many scenes to reflect the characters behaviors in the scenes (Maher 248). Again, towards the end of the bright lighting, a dark color is presented to create an eerie atmosphere. For instance, an excellent use of lighting is offered in the dead farmer s scene. Here, lighting symbolizes the mood in the scene. It starts with Lydia trekking down in a very bright sunlight, the light dims as she approaches the door. Inside the house, there is a window with natural light although no false in the house. Even so, the absence of light suggests a bad situation, which the audience is left to figure out. The director uses this to create unease with the observer. The use of lighting in today s cinematography has great impacts on the intended audience. The main characters in modern movies are usually directed in key lights. Generally, the lights on these key objects are brighter than the fill light and the backlight. Light is targeted to give clarity of the image, to quest for better realism and to create an atmosphere of emotions (Cohen 127). Lightings, in particular, are fundamental tools in manipulating the audiences response to narrative events and characters. • 9. King Lear Madness Essay What defines madness? Is it a state of being that is derived from deterioration of the brain, or is it just extremely foolish behavior created by mayhem and chaos? Perhaps, it is a collaboration of the two, for without sane cognition the basis of irrationality would not be present, such is the case of King Lear. He is a man riddled with madness inside and out, yet through his state of frenzy and turmoil, Lear unveils unexpected guidance, validity, and enlightenment. It seems impossible for two opposing ideas to have subsequent logical soundness, but it is the goal of this essay to clearly defend the paradox that exist between madness and truth. Therefore, by defining, characterizing, and examining the condition of madness, it is equally important to point out similar behavior displayed by King Lear. Lear s deeds provide key insight into the condition plaguing his mind. For example, Shakespeare begins by introducing the reader to Lear s madness in the opening scene of the play: Tell me, my daughters...Which of you shall we say doth love us most? That we our largest bounty may extend Where nature doth with merit challenge (Shakespeare 1.1.47, 50 52). Lear s initial intent of shifting power to his daughters is equitable to that of a retired old man, who wishes to shake all care...while we unburthened crawl toward death, (Shakespeare 1.1.38, 40). However, in the exact moment that Lear allocates his well being to his daughters, the entire dynamics of their relationship has thus transcended from parent to child. His status has become situated to a lower hierarchy, and can be seen as a foreboding on his mind as well as his country. He died an hour after being taken to the hospital. The cause of his death was determined to be sea food allergy. Any chance of cross contamination of his sandwich with sea food was ruled out after forensic investigation. How did Mr Ramos who was a known allergy sufferer reach this fate? The answer lay in the tomatoes that he had eaten for lunch; they not only contained fish related allergens but also contained antibiotic resistant genes which prevented Mr Ramos immune system from protecting his body (Billups). The question that comes to mind now is how could something related to seafood be found in a vegetable? This is where genetically modified foods enter the picture. Genetically modified foods are unnaturally produced. Their consumption has been linked with several serious health disorders including cancer. Presence of genetically modified foodin the market must be banned. This is a weakly regulated practice and is not only damaging human health but is also slowly but steadily affecting the environment. At the beginning of her reign portraits showed her as eligible to marry. But by the late 1570s her transition into the Virgin Queen was in full effect and her portraits were a means to spread this new image. One of the countless portraits to propagate it was The Rainbow Portrait painted around 1600 03. The portrait is saturated with symbols of her divine virginity. Rubens s Saturn was painted less cannibalistic whereas Goya s Saturn is more cannibal as he emphasized on Saturn s expression. However, Wright (1993, p.51) had written that Rubens s is more horrific as viewer s sympathy is straight drop on the innocent baby yet to be eaten. There is also another difference spotted. Worry about it is shared through elected, state, and neighborhood government authorities and through people in general. In the United States, age cut off points of juveniles change, the most extreme age being set at 14 years in a few states and as high as 21 years in others. The 16 to 20 year age gather, considered grown up in many spots, has one of the most unusual occurrences of actual crime. A large degree of grown up criminals has a foundation of early misconduct. Burglary is the most well known offense through children s; more genuine property violations and assault are most as often as possible submitted in later youth. The reasons for such conduct, similar to those of crime, as a rule, are found in a complex of mental, social, and monetary components. Clinical reviews have revealed passionate instabilities, more often than not emerging from confused family circumstances, in many delinquents (John T. Whitehead, 2015). For this particular discussion, we will focus on three contributing factors that are linked to Juvenile Delinquency. The three we will be discussing are, family dynamics, mental health and social class. Social class The social imbalance is an issue that causes hurt in a developing society. This issue offers different qualities, however, causes stress and turmoil in the meantime. No Exit by Jean Paul Satre and Night Flight by Antoine De Saint Exupery are two works of literature that share certain ideas and concepts, one of which is the exemplification of the different roles that men and women play in society and how they have been conformed to occupy certain positions. In my opinion, gender roles are being challenged today to a certain degree, but in order for us to become more open minded, it is imperative to find a central path between the two extremes. While it is important for us to maintain our physiological differences and fulfill certain individual responsibilities, it is equally important for women to assume more significant roles outside the household and to realize their full potential. No Exit, by Jean Paul Satre follows three characters who have been condemned to hell , for the evil deeds committed by them. Here, Satre has represented hell, not in its biblical or Christian sense, where the sinners and transgressors are tortured, but as a room, with no windows and only one door, and where the inhabitants are left alone with their thoughts and the other persons that reside therein. As the play unfolds, the audience is made aware of the sins committed by the individuals that have caused them to be here, including adultery, murder and cowardice. Through this explication, the author has showed us the differing gender roles adopted by men and women but more importantly how certain individuals will tend to deviate from these norms. Though the expected norm is for a man to be brave and fearless, Joseph Garcin is a coward and refuses to accept his responsibilities, made abundantly clear by his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The deterioration in Sino Soviet relations between 1958 1969 is due to a number of different factorssome historians argue that conflicting personal rivalries between Mao and Khrushchev contributed to the split until 1964, however other historians argue that other factors influenced the deterioration. For example both sides were ideologically different, this can be seen as they were both pursuing different methods of achieving communism, and during many occasions they disagreed with each other. However the most significant factor causing the split was their conflicting national interests, as although without the existing personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows a clear confliction in national interests, and a cause for a deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Due to this, Mao introduced his policy of active defence towards the USSR and this was because of his paranoia that the USSR could try to assert dominance over China. This shows a clear confliction of national interests as the USSR was preventing China from expansion and this added to the initial ideological and personality disputes stated above. Therefore the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was due to conflicting national interests more than personality and ideological clashes as from this, both sides clearly wanted different things, conflict between them was inevitable. Finally another argument that some historians put forward is the Ussuri River dispute in 1969 where both sides shared a common border. This was one of the most important reasons for the deterioration in relations because it was the first time both sides came into direct conflict with the other during this in which on the first day, over 30 Soviet soldiers died. This showed a direct cause for deterioration in relations, because two countries cannot be allies if they are constantly at fighting with one another. Throughout this non fiction story the author Jessica Hemauer, does an amazing job of describing her surroundings to pull the reader in and make them feel like they are there with her. She begins as a younger girl describing how difficult it is for a child to awake from a deep slumber, and immediately get to work doing jobs some grown men would cringe at. Before ending the story she tells the reader how all of her activities have not made her feel any less different then she did before. However, she comes to the realization that if it had not been for all of those years of hard work on the farm, then she would not be able to manage her time as well as she does to be able to participate in all those activities, and at the same time hold down a job, and perform better than others in the work place (Hemauer, 2011). The entire story I felt as if I was there on the farm with the young girl. I was drawn to read it more than once not because it was difficult to understand, but because the descriptions were so vivid I did not want to overlook anything. Policies and Politics of Government in Change of a Public Agency: Government policy can be described as the declaration that defines the objective of the priorities and goals of the government. Since these policies outline the rules, role, and procedures, they develop a framework in which the government and its citizens can carry out their specific duties. The public policies are created by all governmental levels and target the entire population or particular groups. The process of developing these policies involves the engagement of governmental officials and citizens. On the other hand, politics of government provide the platform for the development, establishment, and implementation of public policy. Therefore, the politics of government are the platform with which public policies are adopted and implemented. Governmental policies and politics play a critical role in the realization of change in a public agency since the policies are developed and implemented at various levels (Dukeshire Thurlow, 2002). Since these policies may range from formal regulations and legislation to informal guidelines in an agency, understanding them is important in the achievement of change in a public agency. Shakespeare and Alejandro Gonzalez both successfully convey how an individual is treated due to their power, social position, and age, in their respective texts King Learand Birdman. Both portray the main character as an individual who has lost their power and must overcome the challenges that come of this. These characters also must endure society s treatment of them due to their old age, especially from their younger counterparts. The authors also exhibit how each individual is treated by society due to their social position at the time. Both authors have the idea of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then goes on to say that he is not the only one fighting to be relevant and that he is terrified, like the rest of us, that he doesn t matter . This dialogue signifies something that the audience fears, being forgotten by society, and further conveys this to them by exhibiting a character that this affects. A motif of nakedness is also incorporated in the film. This occurs when Riggan is about to perform a preview of his production. He gets locked out of the back of the theatre and must run through the streets in only his underwear. It is this scene though that provides Riggan his chance to become relevant, as he is filmed by a pedestrian and uploaded to YouTube. It is later that Sam refers to this video as power for Riggan. This just shows what is classed as power in the twenty first century, and the audience can understand this when looking at celebrities and their dominance on social media. This motif of nakedness is also present in Shakespeare s King Lear. In this story, Shakespeare writes of a king who gives his power to his daughters only for them to overthrow him completely and banish him from the kingdom. However, unlike in Birdman where the character gains power, this motif occurs to symbolize Lear s complete loss of power. As without his lavish clothes that reveal his regal status, he is no different to a farmer. The crown that Lear wore is also symbolic of his power. As when Lear splits his kingdom up in two for his daughters to rule, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed on them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Labeling Theories And Labeling Theory Labeling theory focuses on the formal and informal application of stigmatization of deviant labels or social tags by society on some of its members. The process of labeling involves an engagement of Social groups [that] create deviance by making the rules whose infraction constitutes deviance, and by applying those rules to particular people and labeling them as outsiders. From this point of view deviance is not a quality of the act the person commits, but rather a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender. (Becker 1963). This theorytreats such labels as both dependent and independent variables. Exclusively, it views labels as dependent or effect variable when it attempts to explain why certain behaviors are socially defined as wrong and certain individuals are socially selected and linked to such labels; ultimately, stigmatizing the person as deviant. In contrast, labeling theory also views labels as the independent factors or causes when it hypothesizes that discrediting labels cause continuation and escalation of the criminal or delinquent behavior. Labeling theory tries to explain the differential application of official stigmatizing labels. Labeling theory emerged as a perspective rather that a scientific theory (Cohn and Farrington 2012). After an initial enthusiasm in the 60 s and 70 s the theory followed disillusionment in the 90 s. It wasn t until the early 2000 s that scholars tried to revive the theory. The aim of ... • 49. What Is Southwest Airlines Case Study Recommendation Over the years Southwest Airlines has steadily grew, but their growth has been highly controlled. This highly controlled growth has allowed them to avoid the trap of growing beyond their means. With the acquisition of AirTran Air, it accelerated Southwest Airlines entry into the international markets. As we hold a large investment in Southwest Airlines, I believe this merger with AirTran Air will not affect the strategy and culture of Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines strategy and culture has a history of being successful as well as creating large profits for the company and its stakeholders. I do see Southwest Airlines maintaining their laser like focus on their basic strategy, but it will take time to fully transition Southwest Airlines strategy and culture to AirTran Air. With this said we should retain our investment in Southwest Airlines as the company has been consistently profitable for decades and has weathered hardships such as, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the 2008 2009 recession. While making my decision to retain our investment in Southwest Airlines I analyzed Southwest Airlines performance in the U.S airlineindustry, as well as looked at Southwest s operations, strategy/culture. The advantages to my recommendation of retaining our investment in Southwest Airlines is that our company could see high returns for our customers and shareholders. In addition, our investment in Southwest Airlines could increase in size, which would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Is Iago A Hero Or A Villain Both, Iago (from Othello) and Roger (from Lord of the Flies) are presented by Shakespeare and Golding as villains. However in my opinion, Iago is more villainous that Roger. This is evident through their initial presentations and how their character progresses throughout their respective pieces; their evil characteristics, motives and how their actions affect the story line and seen by other characters. A villain is a person who is responsible for trouble, harm or damage as a result of their wicked or immoral actions. Iago is first shown to be a manipulative villain and stays the same throughout the entire play. However, the extent to which he deceives other characters increases as the play progresses. Iago has been evil all along, although it surfaces gradually. In Act 1 Scene 1 of Othello his trickery only causes Roderigo to be cheated out of his money, while in Act 2 Scene 3, Iago s deception causes Roderigo to pick a fight with drunken Cassio, hence causing Cassio to lose his position as lieutenant. Moreover in Act 5 Scene 2, after he poisons Othello s mind with his carefully crafted words, Othello murders Desdemona as a result of Iago s manipulation. While Iago does not become more evil throughout the course of Othello, Roger clearly does. In other words, Roger goes from the slight and furtive choir boy he was at the beginning of Lord of the Flies, to descending into savagery at the end of the novel. The earliest you see Roger away from all of the choir boys is in chapter 4, when he walks out the forest with Maurice. Relieved of fire duty, they decide to come down for a swim. • 51. Analysis Of Stripped For Parts By Jennifer Khan Disruption of the Dead In the essay Stripped for Parts written, by Jennifer khan. The general concept that is addressed is how morbid the process of harvesting dead peoples organs out of their bodies. The way Khan starts the essay is by using a narrative approach. The narrative approach helps express the emotion throughout her points she tries to bring up. She uses the story of a dead old man lying on a table waiting for his organs to be taken out. Throughout this she goes from giving examples of different doctors, professors, and other professionals. The thesis statement that grabbed my attention the most is Compared with such micro scare cures, transplants which consist of salvaging entire organs from a heart beating cadaver and sewing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main emotion I felt while reading Khans paper was that I was shocked by the process organ donors go through in their afterlives. It slightly made me angry at some moments as well. On the first page when Khan brings up different points the one that made me interested was In the movies, for instance, surgeons tended to say it would take time to find a heart as though one had been hidden behind a tree or misplaced along with the car keys (123.) This was the point that brought out the anger emotion that came upon me. The reason I used this quote the was because she compared how surgeons took time to find these organs to having to find a pair of keys that were lost, which are two very different concepts. This essay was also very shocking considering how unaware I was of what a donor even meant. Eventually finding out that not every organ works in the new host it is planted in. Even though it is not the major concept it really helps convince the readers. When it is said Sustaining a dead body until its organs can be harvested is a tricky process requiring the latest in medical technology (124.) This really puts it into perspective for some readers from what is essentially going on. Also considering it is just upsetting about how a dead person has had their whole entire lives and is just lying on a table waiting to be dissected. This approach is added to Khan s essay for the sympathy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
