This was a question someone asked Man of Steel director...
This was a question someone asked Man of Steel director Zack Snyder. It came up because The Dark
Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan also developed and produced Man of Steel before handing it
over to Snyder. Snyder s reply was simple, Batman is literally awesome, but really? Come on! Hence,
the obvious answer to this question is Superman.
But I think there s needs to be a context to it. So if we had Batman and Superman, mano a mano,
either in the streets of Gotham or Metropolis, hands down, Superman could likely beat Batman in one
punch or one beam from his eyes. Yes, this is true.
Let s have a little fun with it though. How could Batman prevail? Is it possible, while yes, considering
the fact that they are both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bruce (We ll refer to him as Batman from now on) has no interest in starting another war on crime
though. He s here to solve a mystery. Who killed his dear friend?
Back in Metropolis, the city is flourishing like it never has before. Crime is virtually non existent
thanks to Superman, and possibly the involvement of his Justice League.
Lex Luthor is in prison. All of Superman s foes thus far have been killed or banished. His Clark Kent
persona is married to the love of his life, Lois Lane. It s clear that both are yearning for the adventure
and danger of yesteryear, but they re happy.
Lois Lane, the eager reporter she is, has her attention fall to stories outside of Metropolis, namely the
smoldering city of Gotham. The cry from the media nationwide is, Where is Batman? Is Batman
Dead? Will Gotham ever dig itself from the ashes?
Louis has found her story. She is going to find out Batman s true fate. Superman, having now put
more focus on international and interstellar matters, due to the crime free Metropolis, doesn t notice
when Louis leaves for Gotham.
Back in Gotham, Batman walks the dark alleys, slowly solving the mystery of who killed Gordon. He
doesn t utilize his armored vehicles of yesteryear. He s avoiding any type of public presence. His rage
is elevated however, and because he wants to avoid being seen, thus drawing attention to the media,
but especially drawing attention from the likes of The Joker and his cohorts, he has

Legal Issues Related To The Fashion Industry
The major problems facing companies, especially smaller ones, in resolving product adaptation issues
are things that can differ in different cultures such as the taste of the product, the style, the color, or
symbols, language, but also more specific like differences in technology, environmental differences,
religion etc. The taste of a product is very important for the food, drinks and cigarette industry. Style is
more important in car and fashion industry, which also includes the color and symbols. The meaning
of a color or a symbol can differ from culture to culture. The package of the product can also need
adaptations. Special symbols and the language need to adapt to the country/culture. Some symbols can

4. Propose ways in which intellectual property piracy could be stopped permanently. I believe that it is
simply not realistic to speak of eliminating all piracy, as there will always be at least a small segment
of the population who can t be deterred from stealing others ideas and creativity. Instead, what we can
and should strive for is the reduction of piracy to the lowest levels possible; levels that will not rob
authors and copyright owners of the incentive to create and distribute their works. I believe that this
could be accomplished through a two step copyright protection program of: 1) crafting a proper legal
framework and 2) the adequate and proper implementation of the said framework. The legal
framework provides the basic rights to copyright owners and establishes procedures for the
enforcement of those rights. Those procedures must provide the opportunity to obtain adequate
remedies when those rights are violated as well as the possibility of punitive monetary judgments and,
in appropriate cases, imprisonment of the infringer. The second part of this copyright protection
program is the application of these legal rules to ensure that copyright owners have actual, effective
protection against infringement of their rights. 5. The software industry is the hardest hit by piracy.

Viktor Frankl and the Development of Logotherapy
Viktor Emil Frankl was born on March, 26th 1905, at Czeringassa 7, in Leopoldstadt, in Vienna
Austria, where Sigmund Freud and Alfred Alder also grew up (Klingberg, 2014). He was the middle
child out of three children. His older brother, Walter was two and a half years older, and his younger
sister, Stella, was four years younger. His mother was Elsa Frankl, was a polish woman from Prague
with a gentle manner. His father, Gabriel Frankl, had been a hard working man who was the Director
of Social Affairs (Redsand, 2006). By the time Frankl was four years old he knew he wanted to be a
doctor and he pursued that interest while into high school. He took classes focused on psychology and
philosophy. He began corresponding with Freud when he was ... Show more content on

He then developed what he called paradoxical intention. Paradoxical intention is a method which
encourages one to image themselves pushing into their fear rather than running from it, such as a
patient suffering from insomnia (Pg.112, Frankl, 2006). Instead of focusing on falling asleep the
patient would be asked to focus very hard on staying awake. The success of the paradoxical intention
is called dereflection, which is when the patient is focused back on the task. He met his wife, Tilly
Grossner, a nurse at the hospital, and they were married in 1941, and she was pregnant shortly after. In
1942 he was granted a visa to the United States, which would get him safely away from the
concentration camps; however the visa was only good for him. He went to his father who had a block
of marble from the ruins of a burned down synagogue. The marble had an etching of part of one of the
Ten Commandments, which Viktor inquired about. The marble represented the commandment Honor
thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land. (Pg.11, Frankl, 2006). Upon hearing
this Viktor decided to stay with his family. The Nazis had forced Tilly to have an abortion as Jews
weren t allowed to have children (Redsand, 2006). Frankl began working on a book titled The Doctor
and the Soul and sewed it into his jacket to keep it hidden. The manuscript was the basic fundamentals
of his logotheory. In July of the same year later his family was deported to the

What Is The Theme Of A Journey By Com Tóibin
Assignment 5 A
Everyone who lives also dies, but between these two parallels there is a journey filled with happiness,
depression, illness and much more. Sometimes occurrences happen that can t be controlled and other
times your decisions will alter your own life. This is some of the themes that Mary is dealing with in
the short story A Journey from 2006 by Colm Tóibin.
The short story heavily revolves around the protagonist woman Mary and her depressed son. The two
are driving home from the hospital and the tension between them is very high. The reader is told that
Mary and her husband Seamus was married for 20 years before conceiving David which resulted in
the two being older parents and even more importantly not expected to become ... Show more content

The first paragraph from line 1 to 21 is a flashback which gives the reader information about David,
Mary and their relationship. If that paragraph was gone the reader wouldn t know that Mary and her
husband Seamus might have neglected their son a little which is crucial to understanding why the son
is depressed as an adult. The flashbacks also illustrates how the family s past life has changed with the
years, such as how David ...follow her around asking her questions... (P.1, L. 20 21). Whereas in the
present time he doesn t want to sit next to her nor answer her questions. Another important flashback
is when Mary thinks back to when her father was dying and she sat with him In the months when he
was dying, when he seemed so mild and good humoured, Mary stayed on alone with him and sat with
him (P.3, L. 114 116). Whereas David doesn t care about his father s health. The flashbacks points the
reader to the parallels between the past and now and this is important considering without it the reader
may have thought that David was quiet since he was a kid but back then he was quite lively and

What Roles Do Nature And Nurture Play On Children s...
What roles do nature and nurture play in children s language development?
From a baby s first word to their first complete sentence, there s a lot to debate with their language
development. The average child has a vocabulary of up to six thousand words by the time they turn
five years old (Brighthubcom, 2016). Language development is one of the most critical roles for an
educator in both early childhood and primary settings. It is this ability of language development that is
particularly interesting in the nature vs nurture debate. In order for educators to provide effective
communication, it is important that they have the knowledge and understanding of the four key
concepts of language, such as phonological, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic development and the
underlying theoretical perspectives that explain the processes of language acquisition and
development.
Nature or, in other words, heredity refers to traits that are inherited or genetic. Linguist Noam
Chomsky is a strong advocate of this perspective. He has spent a lot of time on evolving a theory of
grammar that is called universal grammar. Chomsky believed that language is innate, or in other
words we are born with a capacity for language. Chomsky suspected there is an optimal learning age,
between the ages of 3 to 10 where a child is the most likely to learn a language in its entirety and
grasp fluency. The child does not need a prompt to begin language acquisition, it happens on its own.

Synopsis Of The Sdn Technology
The SDN Technology states the reference points and interfaces to the controller. A number of
functions, which are internal to the SDN Controller, are specified in the architecture. The SDN
controller is restricted to features that allow interoperable applications that are to be deployed. The
architecture is ambiguous to the protocols across the interfaces.
The architecture of SDN allows the controller to control data plane resources. SDN simplifies the
configuration of the wide range of resources that are available. SDN must be applicable within
systems that already exist which contain many organizations with the need for security of the
information that is being shared. Limitations in the real world include the need to exist with the
present support systems, administrative or technology fields. Functional subsets maybe summarized
from the SDN architecture if the environment is not as complex. Standardization, validation and
integration are minimized whenever required, using simple mechanisms. A complex system is
partitioned into modular parts in architecture. This helps in managing the level of complexity and
reusing the components in order to meet other practical or business goals. Component partitioning is
an added advantage when it comes to the type of services delivered to the end user.
At the same time SDN architecture is sufficiently complex. An SDN controller can be deployed as any
number of software components, but these components require maintaining a self

Middle Ages Music
Music in the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages were a time of hardship and war. All people ever did was train, go into battle and
die. There were those delicate moments, though, where music was allowed to shine and bring light to
a dark world. Though music wasn t very prominent in the Dark Ages, it still played a part in the world.
There wasn t a place or event where you wouldn t hear a bit of music once in awhile. Different
cultures such as Armenia, Islam and the western part of the of Europe had their own kinds of music.
Some people liked the idea of music and others considered it a sinful hobby. Music was even used
during tournaments, jousts, and banquets. Most people were concerned with surviving, but people did
take a chance to listen to music every once in awhile. Music was prominent in many different parts of
the world. Armenia is one such place. People don t really have any information about their type of
music except that they mostly sang folk songs. Liturgical chants were also a type of melody that was
heard in Armenia culture. Liturgical chants are chants that are centered around the church. Armenia
took elements of liturgical chants, secular music of that day, Hebrew liturgy, and pre Christian
melodies and created a kind of music that was very special to them. Not much is known about Islamic
music during this period other than the fact it began to flourish during the Middle Ages. The people of
Islamic religion began to take charge and thus begun a time when Middle

Lack Of Marginal Utility Theory
Suppliers might have to do a market research in order to forecast the consumer behaviour. To do this
efficiently, firms might use marginal utility theory, namely principle of diminishing marginal utility
together with indifference analysis.
Utility is the satisfaction that people earn from the consumption of a certain quantity of a product
(Mankiw and Taylor, 2014). Marginal utility is the additional satisfaction that customer gains from
consuming one extra unit within a given period of time. However, the more of a product a person
consumes, the less additional utility they are able to gain from that extra unit. Understanding this
situation, economists come up with indifference analysis. Indifference analysis shows how consumer
chooses the combination between two goods but still obtains the same satisfaction and indifference
curve is the graph which illustrates that combination. It means, at any points on indifference curve, the
consumer is indifferent about how to combine the two goods. Diagrammatically, if a person chooses 6
units of good Y with 2 units of good X, his utility will not be different from choosing 4 units of Y with
3 units of X, as long as those points are still on the curve.
Most indifference curves have a convex shape and the reason is this. The lower units of good Y, the
bigger quantity of good X in order to satisfy the loss of good Y. Nevertheless, the amount of giving up
one of these two good cannot be the same. In other words, if the one of the

My Last Day Of Break Essay
The last week of school before break was a blast. The first two days were fairly easy, as they were the
last days of each class. But, it got even better when the days shortened. While finals were slightly
stressful, it was pretty easy. I had been studying and so I wasn t very stressed. On that Friday, I headed
home, as I always do, on the bus. I got home far before the rest of my family, as they were all still at
work or in school. I enjoyed my first few hours of break just relaxing on my own, with very little
homework to do over the 2 week break. I had no inclination of what my mom was going to tell me
when she got home, other than a cryptic text about a surprise that had maybe two words.

Then she is was only awake for an hour. That s what my mom told me to do. At first, she was fairly
sleepy. She was also sniffing all around our backyard, not sure what to smell. She has the softest fur I
have ever felt, and as I took her inside, and as she woke up more, I started to realize that she might not
be an angel all the way through. Soon, she went into what my stepdad calls her manic, cantankerous
stage. I suddenly realized that those teeth are a lot sharper than they look. I thought I was her favorite
chew toy.
Over the next 10 minutes, I realized her little secret. Beneath her angelic and sweet face, she had a
demon inside. Those sharp little teeth seek out the most painful spot, or most ticklish spot, that they
could find. Her bite was hard and fierce, for a puppy. Even though I knew she was playing, it hurt
sometimes. She also hardly listens to any commands I try to give her, as I have become used to dog
commands by way of my old dog or my dog at my dad s house. I realized far too late that we hadn t

Advantages Of Herbal Diet Supplements
Advantages of Herbal Diet Supplements
Here is a crash course in the advantages of herbal supplements and medicines:
They are cheap. Did you look at your medical bills for the past year? Now add up all that you paid the
pharmacist for prescription and over the counter medications. Is the number looking scary yet? So if
you have been using conventional medicine for small problems like common cold and stomachaches
then perhaps it is time you considered herbal medicine. It might give you a healthier wallet or purse
besides a healthy body.
You can do it. Did you know that herbal medicine and supplements can be assembled in your own
kitchen? There are thousands of herbal recipes available on the Internet. Just follow them like a recipe
to bake a cake and there you are. Your medicine made by your own hand. If you have a garden you
could even grown your own herbs.
They are natural. Man has learned to do many things but nature continues to know more. So matter
how much noise the pharmaceutical companies make you should at least give some time to listen to
nature and her own remedies.
Now for the long version. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People have used them for centuries but it is only recently that western culture has rediscovered the
wonders of herbs. In part, this was because the development of allopathic medicinal techniques in the
west combined with the lack of scientific support for non conventional medicines to give an unsavory
(and quite wrong) reputation to herbal medicines and supplements. Recent discoveries have forced the
medical community to reconsider the benefits of herbs. This has mostly come about with increasing
exposure of western community to the healing techniques practiced in other cultures and countries that
proved to be more effective than, or at the least complimentary to, allopathic

Cause Of Hate Crimes
In 2015, the FBI released statistics showing that race/ethnicity/ancestry bias incidents dominate over
half of the hate crimes in that year with a steady rate of 59.2%. Hate crimes, or bias motivated crimes,
are offences that are encouraged by hatred against a victim because of their race, ethnicity, religion,
sexual orientation, handicap, national origin, or tribal membership. Some instances make these crimes
very difficult to identify because it can be hard to determine one s motivation. Also, some can simply
be expressing their rights given to them by the Constitution. Hate crimes used to be a huge issue
before the 1950 s and America has taken huge steps away from that era. However, these biased crimes
seem to be more of a concern in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lately, many instances have happened where racial tensions build and hate crimes are committed. For
example, about a month ago in Charlottesville, Virginia, a rally was originally formed by white
nationalists. The situation escalated extremely quickly when blacks showed up; harsh words were
exchanged and things were being thrown from white supremacists. Counter protesters retreated as
chemicals filled the air. At that point, hate crimes were being committed. Violence broke out between
parties and few were even left for dead. State troopers are still being sent to Charlottesville to return
the peace to the college like town. Racial tensions have the power of bringing blood to bias motivated
crimes. Law enforcement does almost all that they can to protect the citizens of the United States.
Sometimes their presence just isn t enough. Imagine a few dozen police officers trying to handle a few
hundred or thousand angry rampaging rioters. There doesn t seem to be much that can be done without
promoting more violence. In our world today, people are growing more sensitive to subjects and are
willing to protest over anything! With danger climbing to the top, the most that we can do is prepare.

Efficient Markets Under the idea that markets are efficient, stock prices reflect new information

Bruce Ismay Essay
Remember when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank? Well maybe it was not the icebergs fault. The
Titanic sank on April 14th, 1912. J. Bruce Ismay was the English businessman who served as a
Managing Director of the White Star Line of steamship. He traveled and survived the maiden voyage
of the RMS Titanic. Some remember Bruce as a coward that should have went down with the ship like
the other heroes did and others see him merely as a scapegoat who had some rather influential
enemies. Bruce got rescued in Collapsible Lifeboat C. J. Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500

The text states, The Titanic designer, Thomas Andrews was pushing for 48 lifeboats which would have
been enough to carry anyone on board. Ismay was footing the bill for the Titanic, and for whatever, he
said no to the 48 lifeboats. The text also states, Only twenty were placed on board. Because of his
choice, it puts him under some obligation to stay aboard the ship and take whatever comes. This
shows how if the 48 lifeboats didn t get footed, all 2,208 would have been able to make it out of the
Titanic. When ships put in lifeboats, they need to insure that they would have enough to get everyone
off the boat if something were to happen. On the contrary, some may say that Joseph Bruce Ismay is
innocent and Stanley Lord, captain of SS Californian, is mostly at fault. They say that because the SS
Californian was 19 miles away from the Titanic when it hit the iceberg, they were sending large white
lights in the sky and radio calling Stanley. Well they are wrong. They are wrong because Stanley Lord
s ship was surrounded by ice and tried contacting the Titanic. To say it again another way, Joseph
Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500 lives lost on April 14th, 1912. The reasons are he
demanded food right after the incident, lowered the amount of lifeboats, and he took a spot on the
lifeboat knowing women and children go

Example Of Phonetic Based Instructional Unit
B.1. In order to fulfill my Teacher Work Sample assignment, I created a phonetic based instructional
unit, The Foundations of Reading, for a level one through three, adult ESL class. I completed this in
accordance with the following guiding learning goals:
1. Students will identify the letters and sounds of the English alphabet,
2. Students will recognize consonants and vowels, and
3. Students will learn short and long vowel sounds.
Upon completion of the unit, and after reviewing student pre and post test scores, it became evident
that the goal my students made the most improvement in was goal number two;
Students will recognize consonants and vowels. Students achieved an average, combined score, on the
Vowels and Consonants Pre test, of 88 percent. After receiving the corresponding instruction in this
area, their combined average score improved eight percent to 96 percent.
In analyzing this result, I believe there are two plausible reasons. B.1.a. One reason for the students
success with this second goal may actually be the instruction they attained in pursuing the first goal
Students will identify the letters and sounds of the English alphabet. While addressing the letters and
most common phonetic sounds of the English alphabet, (including short vowels sounds) in lessons two
and three, incidental discussions occurred regarding the vowels themselves, due to students curiosity,
prior knowledge and the changeable nature of English vowels phonetic representations.

John Locke And Locke s Theory Of Personal Identity
A person is a thinking thing that has reason and reflection and thinks of itself as the same thinking
thing over time. John Locke, an English philosopher argued that what makes a person able to identify
themselves through time is continuity of one s memories and not the substance of the body. Bernard
Williams, another English philosopher criticized Locke s theory of personal identity through his body
switching experiment. William s argued that personal identity is found on the body and continuity of
one s memories isn t necessary for personal identity. I am going to argue that personal identity is
found on continuity of one s memories by presenting Locke s view of personal identity, presenting
William s criticism of Locke s theory through his body switching experiments, and providing my own
reasons on why personal identity can be found on continuity of one s memories and not the substance
of the body. John Locke argued that people are able to identify themselves through time if they have
continuity of memory. According to Locke, personal identity is found on continuity of memory and
not the substance of either the soul or body.1 If humans were to lose their memory, it would be
impossible to identify themselves just based upon their bodies. Memory must be preserved in order to
preserve your personal identity.2 Locke, describes that all life forms in this universe are made up of
atoms called a mass of matter . As time goes on, life forms lose and gain matter as

Chocolate Syrup and Milk
Introduction: We were testing the solubility of the chocolate syrup brands while being stirred in whole
milk. Our purpose is to see which of the major brands of syrup is most soluble and for what reason.
This is important to our daily lives because it makes us aware of what types of materials we are
ingesting and this applies to our experiment by seeing which of the ingredients take longer to dissolve.
Information known is all brands are known to dissolve in milk but they all use different ingredients
and they will cause a difference in the time it takes to dissolve. New information that will be gained
from this experiment is which ingredients inside chocolate syrup will take the longest to dissolve,
from the type of sugars in it to the syrups. We expected the Nesquik to dissolve the fastest because it
did not contain any high fructose corn syrup while the other brand of syrup did. Also we observed
from the syrups that nesquik was very thin, while the others were very thick and slow in behaviour.
Our hypothesis is that the Nesquik will disintegrate the fastest in the milk because it lacks High
Fructose Corn Syrup.

The Theme Of Escape In James Joyce s Dubliners
Human beings yearn for better lives, often through escape. The main characters in James Joyce s
Dubliners are no exception. Characters such as Eveline in Eveline and Little Chandler in A Little
Cloud have a longing to break free of Dublin s entrapment and pursue their dreams. Nevertheless,
these characters never seem to achieve a better state; rather, they are paralyzed and unable to embark
on their journey of self fulfillment. Joyce employs this motif of the empty promise of escape and its
subsequent frustration through one s own responsibilities and purely physical acts. Through this, Joyce
interconnects the different Dubliners stories to show that escaping life in a place as paralyzing as
Dublin is no easy task on the individual. Eveline s internal struggle illustrates clearly how one
struggles between the past and the future, leading to the failure to escape. While weighing her options
as to whether or not leave Dublin, Eveline remembers her mother s wishes: Her promise to her
mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could (Joyce 40). Even though Eveline s
home contains an abusive father, absence of family members, and the struggles of domestic work, she
is unable to let go. Awaiting her a promised adventurous and free spirited life with her respectful and
kind lover, Frank. He has the ability to rescue Eveline from a troubling past and allow her to enter a
new phase in her life, liberated from the ugliness of Dublin. However,

Analysis Of Blowin In The Wind
Dylan s early music, written as part of this folk revival, reflects this individualist style of political folk
songs, but the degree and subject of political conviction seems to be less important to him than the
expression of emotion, and a certain identification of himself as being political. This is readily
apparent in his work from the 1963 album The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . Two of his great early
political forays, Blowin in the Wind and Masters of War , play in quite nicely with the notion that this
generation of folk artists were more abstract, asking less rational, or rhetorical, questions, and
expressing an anger with the world, but not offering much in the way of action. The second verse of
Blowin in the Wind expresses an anger with society s willingness to sit idly by in the face of
injustices, but due to its vague language, this anger is not directed at any particular instance of
injustice: How many years can some people exist/Before they re allowed to be free/Yes, n how many
times can a man turn his head/And pretend that he just doesn t see/The answer, my friend, is blowin in
the wind/The answer is blowin in the wind. Moreover, the refrain is also incredibly ambiguous, and
like much of the ephemeral political music of the time, doesn t offer a concrete solution to the
problem. Masters of War offers a scathing indictment of the arms build up of the Cold War. Much of
the song calls for the death of the war profiteers, and offers a grim image in

War Between Ethiopians and Eritreans Essay
War Between Ethiopians and Eritreans
On May 6th 1998, Ethiopian and Eritrean patrols engaged in an all out battle. While it may not have
been the shot heard round the world , it certainly was a shot the disrupted a previously peaceful
vicinity. It was also a shot that completely changed the Horn of Africa, and permanently disrupted
Ethiopian economy. It was also a shot that interrupted the young life of Benyam Berhe. Benyam Berhe
experienced this war in a way completely unique from anyone else in the United States, because he
lived it. America hasn t seen foreign troops on its soil since the war of 1812. Americans cannot
possibly relate to hearing mortar fire from our very own homes.
When diplomacy fails to achieve what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Eritrean Nakfa is a hundred times more worthless than the Birr of Ethiopia. Yet the Eritrean
protested that the exchange rate should be one for one. When this movement was stopped suddenly
and concisely by the Ethiopian government, the Eritreans attempted to take some Ethiopian controlled
boarder land. This led to armed retaliation by the Ethiopian government and eventually led to an all
out war.
Benyam also said that the majority of the fighting was done within a matter of days. The Ethiopians
elected not to continue the fighting that could have led all the way to Asmara, (the capital of Eritrea).
America wanted the Ethiopians to stop however, and so they stopped any further invasion plans.
Benyam went on to say that a lot of the fighting was done by the vastly superior aircrafts on Ethiopia s
side, that they (Ethiopia) bombed quickly and efficiently. He went on to mention that while some
Eritreans were deported, they were mostly spies. Also that what was not reported was the fact that
many Ethiopians were tortured before they got released and deported from Eritrea. It seems that a lot
of the mainstream media, especially the BBC failed to report that. Benyam proved to be an invaluable
resource in his first hand experience with the Eritrean Ethiopian conflict and I referred to him often for
further information.

How Is Glass Used In The Glass Menagerie
Glass is an everyday object that serves a different purpose in each particular person s life. Its uses
range from decorations to something as common as a household mirror. Others use glass to see more
than just themselves; they use it to see the world. Additionally in the play, glass itself is an everyday
object with a deeper meaning; the glass animals themselves are symbols of the uniqueness of
individual people and Laura relies on them (like one would glasses) to cope with the world around her.
Spectacles take something nonsensical, and turn it into a clear picture; much like how spectacles in the
play, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, clarifies the theme of realism. The first way a
spectacle is used to create realism is with dim lighting. The use of lighting makes scenes more
dramatic and can sometimes make it seem more real. Tom is the narrator as well as a character in the
play and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lighting is one special effect that creates a form of reality. In the play lighting is used to convey the
emotions of the characters so it can be easy to tell their mood. Just the same in real life, bright colors
can show happiness and even improve our moods. Music is another spectacle Tennessee Williams
uses. A lot of people can relate to music in their life and it can often be an escape from our troubles as
it was for Laura. Props, a final spectacle, provide symbolism as well as another way for the characters
to escape the reality the cannot face in their lives. Along with being a prop, glass is an object that
people use in different ways. Some cannot get through the day without looking at themselves in a
sheet of it, and others cannot see without it. Even insignificant objects that some people take for
granted, others rely on solely to be able to absorb the world around

CAUSES
In some cases, the cause of this condition may not be known. Common causes include:
Viral, bacterial, or fungal infection.
Emotional stress.
Foods or chemicals that irritate the mouth.
Injury or physical irritation of the mouth.
Medicines.
Allergies.
Tobacco use.
Less common causes include:
Skin disease.
The herpes virus (herpes simplex). When oral ulcers are caused by herpes simplex, they are commonly
referred to as cold sores or fever blisters.
Oral cancer.
RISK FACTORS
Oral ulcers are more likely to develop in:
People who wear dental braces, dentures, or retainers.
People who don t keep their mouth clean and brush their teeth regularly.
People with sensitive skin.
People with conditions that affect their entire body (systemic conditions), such as immune disorders.
SYMPTOMS
The main symptom of this condition is one or more oval shaped or round ulcers with red borders,
which are usually about ¼ inch (6 mm) in size. The cause of the ulcers can cause variation in the

The Shape And Thickness Of Intertidal Snail Littorina...
Charles Pham Evolution Dr. Hellack Feb. 4th, 2016 Between 1871 and 1984, the shape and thickness
of intertidal snail Littorina obtusata has changed dramatically in northern parts of New England.
Shells that were collected in the 19th century were observed to possess characteristics of being high
spired with thin walls, while those collected between 1982 and 1984 were low spired with thick walls.
It was noted that an intertidal crab Carcinus maenas which preys on L. obtusata had ironically
expanded its range into the northern parts of New England around 1900. (Seeley, 1986). Considering
the significance of these two various characteristics, one may hypothesize that the various shell
morphology is due to speciation (Ha) or, with careful experimentations, another proposed hypothesis
(Ho) can be that the change in L. obtusata shell morphology was due to natural selection in response
to the predation of C. maenas. The shape and thickness of the shell (dependent variable) is a function
to the presence of C. maenas (independent variable). Rapid morphological transitions in organisms
have been difficult to witness, especially for ecologist and paleontologist. This has raised concerns for
some evolutionary biologist whom suggest that transitional forms are not visible in the fossil record
and represent speciation events. Seeley (1986) reported that a rapid morphological transition did
indeed occur in the intertidal snail Littorina obtusata between 1871 and 1984 in response

Leadership Styles Of Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans.
There are distinct management and leadership styles portrayed in this movie. Using information
learned in this course, provide examples of effective and ineffective management techniques you
observed in the movie.
I observed five different leadership styles in this movie, and I felt that each of them were effective
because of the timing of the leadership style used based on the situation at hand. Authoritative
leadership skills were used at the beginning of the movie when the coaches, players and the rest of the
staff met for the first time. Being the new coach, Boone needed to get everyone to follow his vision
for the team since the school was just recently racially integrated. The racial integration put great ...

Lastly, democratic leadership styles were portrayed by both not only by both coaches, but also
between the players. When the coaches and some of the players bought into and believed in what
Coach Boone was trying to accomplish, they were able to instill a sense of ownership in the other
team members, coaches and the town as well. In the end all but one player had become a true part of
the team and what that team stood for. The offensive team captain felt empowered enough to point out
and ask that this player be cut from the team; I believe that he did the right thing and acted as a leader
in this situation. He knew that this player was a weak link in the team and the team couldn t afford to
have even one weak link if it was going to be successful.
Do you believe Coach Boone was an effective change agent? What about Coach Yoast? Why or why
not?
I feel that both coaches played a vital role in effective change. Even though both coaches had
reservations about working together, they were willing to put aside their own prejudices for the sake
of the team. Had they not been able to do that, the team would have seen their leaders working against
each other instead of working together; that type of scenario would have hindered any chance for
effective changes.
I personally feel that Coach Boone had some rather unique change styles that he used, but they

Expectations of First-Line-Supervisor in Law Enforcement...
Expectations of a First Line Supervisor in a Law Enforcement Agency
By
Daniel Parra
Supervision in the Criminal Justice Field
Professor Chavez
May 15, 2013
Abstract
The first line supervisor in law enforcement is commonly referred to as a Sergeant. These positions
are of great importance to a law enforcement agency. There are many pros and cons to becoming a
first line supervisor. These positions are tasked with the expectation of maintaining a level of balance
within the patrol ranks, as well as remaining fair and impartial among those ranks. There are also
many expectations of subordinates. In order for both parties to meet these expectations requires a
close working relationship.
The first line supervisor in a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and
accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty
with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their
subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be
able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from
simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action.
Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp;
Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are unwilling
to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When disciplinary
action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial. When
initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the
subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the subordinate
and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is necessary it is done
in a constructive manner. When the disciplinary action is constructive it allows the subordinate to
accept their mistakes, and learn

Electricity And Its Effects On Our Lives
Most people in this world use electricity in their daily lives and surely most of them would not survive
in a world where there was none. In other words, to most people electricity is vital to daily living. It is
essential because it allows us to do things in faster and more effectively. Personally, I cannot imagine
living on this planet and not having a computer, a television, a radio, a stove, etc. Without all of these
tools daily tasks as simple as cooking a meal would be much harder and would most likely not taste as
good because it would have to be cooked on top of a fire. If electricity did not exist we would also not
be able to see during the night time unless we had a candle or fire stick, which would not last too long
and would not light very far. To most people electricity provides with a form of communication with
their loved ones. For example, some people use Skype on their computer, and in this process of
communication electricity is used. If this technology did not exist people would not be aware or in
contact with their relatives and friends that are not near them. Electricity is also the main reason out
houses are powered up and we are able to see clearly at night. For these reasons, it s likely that most
people are grateful to have electricity in their lives.
Although it may seem like a simple topic it is in fact the opposite. The history of electricity goes way
back and has many contributors that helped to generate the technology we have today, that we

Mental Health Intake Form Critique
Intake Form Critique Arizona State University SWG 510 Jazmin Garcia Mental Health Intake Form
Critique The purpose of an intake form is to get to know your possible client a little better. Intake

care physician. The intake form also asks the client questions about any current symptoms they have
such as depressed mood and disturbed sleep patterns. Depending on the nature of the intake form, in
this case, mental health, the form may ask questions about suicide, to identify if the client has had any
thoughts of suicide in the past or currently having suicidal thoughts now. The intake forms ask many
questions regarding the client s mental health to assess what services and treatments that client may

Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis
Younger Dryas Climate Event
Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change
that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change
, 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water
filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the
water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the
flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region. Unfortunately, 30 species
of animals became extinct as a result of the changes, and nearly 80 percent of North America s large
animals disappeared (video). Ending abruptly, the Younger Dryas officially ... Show more content on

Although no debate exists regarding whether this event occurred, several theories have been created
explaining the reason why it occurred. One such theory is the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, also
known as the Clovis Comet Hypothesis, which proposes that a comet or asteroid hit North America,
killing off many animals and human instantly, and non adapting species were also eradicated due to
starvation (video). One critique of this hypothesis is that no crater has been found on Earth s surface;
however, it is likely that the comet hit the glacier, which ultimately melted and left no physical sign.
Another hypothesis depends on the idea of a thermohaline circulation shutdown due to the changes in
ocean circulation ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). A problem with this hypothesis, however, is that
another glacier melting event occurred following the Younger Dryas, and it did not create a massive
climate change. Another theory states that the climate change was brought on by Earth s orbital
changes, but much more information is needed regarding this

  • 2. This was a question someone asked Man of Steel director... This was a question someone asked Man of Steel director Zack Snyder. It came up because The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan also developed and produced Man of Steel before handing it over to Snyder. Snyder s reply was simple, Batman is literally awesome, but really? Come on! Hence, the obvious answer to this question is Superman. But I think there s needs to be a context to it. So if we had Batman and Superman, mano a mano, either in the streets of Gotham or Metropolis, hands down, Superman could likely beat Batman in one punch or one beam from his eyes. Yes, this is true. Let s have a little fun with it though. How could Batman prevail? Is it possible, while yes, considering the fact that they are both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bruce (We ll refer to him as Batman from now on) has no interest in starting another war on crime though. He s here to solve a mystery. Who killed his dear friend? Back in Metropolis, the city is flourishing like it never has before. Crime is virtually non existent thanks to Superman, and possibly the involvement of his Justice League. Lex Luthor is in prison. All of Superman s foes thus far have been killed or banished. His Clark Kent persona is married to the love of his life, Lois Lane. It s clear that both are yearning for the adventure and danger of yesteryear, but they re happy. Lois Lane, the eager reporter she is, has her attention fall to stories outside of Metropolis, namely the smoldering city of Gotham. The cry from the media nationwide is, Where is Batman? Is Batman Dead? Will Gotham ever dig itself from the ashes? Louis has found her story. She is going to find out Batman s true fate. Superman, having now put more focus on international and interstellar matters, due to the crime free Metropolis, doesn t notice when Louis leaves for Gotham. Back in Gotham, Batman walks the dark alleys, slowly solving the mystery of who killed Gordon. He doesn t utilize his armored vehicles of yesteryear. He s avoiding any type of public presence. His rage is elevated however, and because he wants to avoid being seen, thus drawing attention to the media, but especially drawing attention from the likes of The Joker and his cohorts, he has ... Legal Issues Related To The Fashion Industry The major problems facing companies, especially smaller ones, in resolving product adaptation issues are things that can differ in different cultures such as the taste of the product, the style, the color, or symbols, language, but also more specific like differences in technology, environmental differences, religion etc. The taste of a product is very important for the food, drinks and cigarette industry. Style is more important in car and fashion industry, which also includes the color and symbols. The meaning of a color or a symbol can differ from culture to culture. The package of the product can also need adaptations. Special symbols and the language need to adapt to the country/culture. Some symbols can be offensive in one ... I believe that it is simply not realistic to speak of eliminating all piracy, as there will always be at least a small segment of the population who can t be deterred from stealing others ideas and creativity. Instead, what we can and should strive for is the reduction of piracy to the lowest levels possible; levels that will not rob authors and copyright owners of the incentive to create and distribute their works. I believe that this could be accomplished through a two step copyright protection program of: 1) crafting a proper legal framework and 2) the adequate and proper implementation of the said framework. The legal framework provides the basic rights to copyright owners and establishes procedures for the enforcement of those rights. Those procedures must provide the opportunity to obtain adequate remedies when those rights are violated as well as the possibility of punitive monetary judgments and, in appropriate cases, imprisonment of the infringer. The second part of this copyright protection program is the application of these legal rules to ensure that copyright owners have actual, effective protection against infringement of their rights. 5. • 4. Viktor Frankl and the Development of Logotherapy Viktor Emil Frankl was born on March, 26th 1905, at Czeringassa 7, in Leopoldstadt, in Vienna Austria, where Sigmund Freud and Alfred Alder also grew up (Klingberg, 2014). He was the middle child out of three children. His older brother, Walter was two and a half years older, and his younger sister, Stella, was four years younger. His mother was Elsa Frankl, was a polish woman from Prague with a gentle manner. His father, Gabriel Frankl, had been a hard working man who was the Director of Social Affairs (Redsand, 2006). By the time Frankl was four years old he knew he wanted to be a doctor and he pursued that interest while into high school. He took classes focused on psychology and philosophy. He began corresponding with Freud when he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then developed what he called paradoxical intention. Paradoxical intention is a method which encourages one to image themselves pushing into their fear rather than running from it, such as a patient suffering from insomnia (Pg.112, Frankl, 2006). Instead of focusing on falling asleep the patient would be asked to focus very hard on staying awake. The success of the paradoxical intention is called dereflection, which is when the patient is focused back on the task. He met his wife, Tilly Grossner, a nurse at the hospital, and they were married in 1941, and she was pregnant shortly after. In 1942 he was granted a visa to the United States, which would get him safely away from the concentration camps; however the visa was only good for him. He went to his father who had a block of marble from the ruins of a burned down synagogue. The marble had an etching of part of one of the Ten Commandments, which Viktor inquired about. The marble represented the commandment Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land. (Pg.11, Frankl, 2006). Upon hearing this Viktor decided to stay with his family. The Nazis had forced Tilly to have an abortion as Jews weren t allowed to have children (Redsand, 2006). Frankl began working on a book titled The Doctor and the Soul and sewed it into his jacket to keep it hidden. The manuscript was the basic fundamentals of his logotheory. • 5. What Is The Theme Of A Journey By Com Tóibin Assignment 5 A Everyone who lives also dies, but between these two parallels there is a journey filled with happiness, depression, illness and much more. Sometimes occurrences happen that can t be controlled and other times your decisions will alter your own life. This is some of the themes that Mary is dealing with in the short story A Journey from 2006 by Colm Tóibin. The short story heavily revolves around the protagonist woman Mary and her depressed son. The two are driving home from the hospital and the tension between them is very high. The reader is told that Mary and her husband Seamus was married for 20 years before conceiving David which resulted in the two being older parents and even more importantly not expected to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first paragraph from line 1 to 21 is a flashback which gives the reader information about David, Mary and their relationship. If that paragraph was gone the reader wouldn t know that Mary and her husband Seamus might have neglected their son a little which is crucial to understanding why the son is depressed as an adult. The flashbacks also illustrates how the family s past life has changed with the years, such as how David ...follow her around asking her questions... (P.1, L. 20 21). Whereas in the present time he doesn t want to sit next to her nor answer her questions. Another important flashback is when Mary thinks back to when her father was dying and she sat with him In the months when he was dying, when he seemed so mild and good humoured, Mary stayed on alone with him and sat with him (P.3, L. 114 116). Whereas David doesn t care about his father s health. • 6. What Roles Do Nature And Nurture Play On Children s... What roles do nature and nurture play in children s language development? From a baby s first word to their first complete sentence, there s a lot to debate with their language development. The average child has a vocabulary of up to six thousand words by the time they turn five years old (Brighthubcom, 2016). Language development is one of the most critical roles for an educator in both early childhood and primary settings. It is this ability of language development that is particularly interesting in the nature vs nurture debate. In order for educators to provide effective communication, it is important that they have the knowledge and understanding of the four key concepts of language, such as phonological, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic development and the underlying theoretical perspectives that explain the processes of language acquisition and development. Nature or, in other words, heredity refers to traits that are inherited or genetic. Linguist Noam Chomsky is a strong advocate of this perspective. He has spent a lot of time on evolving a theory of grammar that is called universal grammar. Chomsky believed that language is innate, or in other words we are born with a capacity for language. Chomsky suspected there is an optimal learning age, between the ages of 3 to 10 where a child is the most likely to learn a language in its entirety and grasp fluency. The child does not need a prompt to begin language acquisition, it happens on its own. If a child is around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Synopsis Of The Sdn Technology The SDN Technology states the reference points and interfaces to the controller. A number of functions, which are internal to the SDN Controller, are specified in the architecture. The SDN controller is restricted to features that allow interoperable applications that are to be deployed. The architecture is ambiguous to the protocols across the interfaces. The architecture of SDN allows the controller to control data plane resources. SDN simplifies the configuration of the wide range of resources that are available. SDN must be applicable within systems that already exist which contain many organizations with the need for security of the information that is being shared. Limitations in the real world include the need to exist with the present support systems, administrative or technology fields. Functional subsets maybe summarized from the SDN architecture if the environment is not as complex. Standardization, validation and integration are minimized whenever required, using simple mechanisms. A complex system is partitioned into modular parts in architecture. This helps in managing the level of complexity and reusing the components in order to meet other practical or business goals. Component partitioning is an added advantage when it comes to the type of services delivered to the end user. At the same time SDN architecture is sufficiently complex. An SDN controller can be deployed as any number of software components, but these components require maintaining a self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Middle Ages Music Music in the Middle Ages The Middle Ages were a time of hardship and war. All people ever did was train, go into battle and die. There were those delicate moments, though, where music was allowed to shine and bring light to a dark world. Though music wasn t very prominent in the Dark Ages, it still played a part in the world. There wasn t a place or event where you wouldn t hear a bit of music once in awhile. Different cultures such as Armenia, Islam and the western part of the of Europe had their own kinds of music. Some people liked the idea of music and others considered it a sinful hobby. Music was even used during tournaments, jousts, and banquets. Most people were concerned with surviving, but people did take a chance to listen to music every once in awhile. Music was prominent in many different parts of the world. Armenia is one such place. People don t really have any information about their type of music except that they mostly sang folk songs. Liturgical chants were also a type of melody that was heard in Armenia culture. Liturgical chants are chants that are centered around the church. Armenia took elements of liturgical chants, secular music of that day, Hebrew liturgy, and pre Christian melodies and created a kind of music that was very special to them. • 9. Lack Of Marginal Utility Theory Suppliers might have to do a market research in order to forecast the consumer behaviour. To do this efficiently, firms might use marginal utility theory, namely principle of diminishing marginal utility together with indifference analysis. Utility is the satisfaction that people earn from the consumption of a certain quantity of a product (Mankiw and Taylor, 2014). Marginal utility is the additional satisfaction that customer gains from consuming one extra unit within a given period of time. However, the more of a product a person consumes, the less additional utility they are able to gain from that extra unit. Understanding this situation, economists come up with indifference analysis. Indifference analysis shows how consumer chooses the combination between two goods but still obtains the same satisfaction and indifference curve is the graph which illustrates that combination. It means, at any points on indifference curve, the consumer is indifferent about how to combine the two goods. Diagrammatically, if a person chooses 6 units of good Y with 2 units of good X, his utility will not be different from choosing 4 units of Y with 3 units of X, as long as those points are still on the curve. Most indifference curves have a convex shape and the reason is this. The lower units of good Y, the bigger quantity of good X in order to satisfy the loss of good Y. Nevertheless, the amount of giving up one of these two good cannot be the same. In other words, if the one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, it got even better when the days shortened. While finals were slightly stressful, it was pretty easy. I had been studying and so I wasn t very stressed. On that Friday, I headed home, as I always do, on the bus. I got home far before the rest of my family, as they were all still at work or in school. I enjoyed my first few hours of break just relaxing on my own, with very little homework to do over the 2 week break. Soon, she went into what my stepdad calls her manic, cantankerous stage. I suddenly realized that those teeth are a lot sharper than they look. I thought I was her favorite chew toy. Over the next 10 minutes, I realized her little secret. Beneath her angelic and sweet face, she had a demon inside. Those sharp little teeth seek out the most painful spot, or most ticklish spot, that they could find. Her bite was hard and fierce, for a puppy. Even though I knew she was playing, it hurt sometimes. She also hardly listens to any commands I try to give her, as I have become used to dog commands by way of my old dog or my dog at my dad s house. Did you look at your medical bills for the past year? Now add up all that you paid the pharmacist for prescription and over the counter medications. Is the number looking scary yet? So if you have been using conventional medicine for small problems like common cold and stomachaches then perhaps it is time you considered herbal medicine. If you have a garden you could even grown your own herbs. They are natural. Man has learned to do many things but nature continues to know more. In part, this was because the development of allopathic medicinal techniques in the west combined with the lack of scientific support for non conventional medicines to give an unsavory (and quite wrong) reputation to herbal medicines and supplements. Recent discoveries have forced the medical community to reconsider the benefits of herbs. This has mostly come about with increasing exposure of western community to the healing techniques practiced in other cultures and countries that proved to be more effective than, or at the least complimentary to, allopathic ... Hate crimes, or bias motivated crimes, are offences that are encouraged by hatred against a victim because of their race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, handicap, national origin, or tribal membership. Some instances make these crimes very difficult to identify because it can be hard to determine one s motivation. Also, some can simply be expressing their rights given to them by the Constitution. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lately, many instances have happened where racial tensions build and hate crimes are committed. For example, about a month ago in Charlottesville, Virginia, a rally was originally formed by white nationalists. The situation escalated extremely quickly when blacks showed up; harsh words were exchanged and things were being thrown from white supremacists. Counter protesters retreated as chemicals filled the air. At that point, hate crimes were being committed. Violence broke out between parties and few were even left for dead. State troopers are still being sent to Charlottesville to return the peace to the college like town. Racial tensions have the power of bringing blood to bias motivated crimes. Law enforcement does almost all that they can to protect the citizens of the United States. Sometimes their presence just isn t enough. Imagine a few dozen police officers trying to handle a few hundred or thousand angry rampaging rioters. There doesn t seem to be much that can be done without promoting more violence. This was where George Washington and Lafayette met and had dinner. The Bonding of the two gentleman started almost immediately. • 16. Bruce Ismay Essay Remember when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank? Well maybe it was not the icebergs fault. The Titanic sank on April 14th, 1912. J. Bruce Ismay was the English businessman who served as a Managing Director of the White Star Line of steamship. He traveled and survived the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. Some remember Bruce as a coward that should have went down with the ship like the other heroes did and others see him merely as a scapegoat who had some rather influential enemies. Bruce got rescued in Collapsible Lifeboat C. J. Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500 lives lost when the Titanic sank. He is mostly at fault because he took a spot on a lifeboat knowing women and children were still on the ship and that they go first, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text states, The Titanic designer, Thomas Andrews was pushing for 48 lifeboats which would have been enough to carry anyone on board. Ismay was footing the bill for the Titanic, and for whatever, he said no to the 48 lifeboats. The text also states, Only twenty were placed on board. Because of his choice, it puts him under some obligation to stay aboard the ship and take whatever comes. This shows how if the 48 lifeboats didn t get footed, all 2,208 would have been able to make it out of the Titanic. When ships put in lifeboats, they need to insure that they would have enough to get everyone off the boat if something were to happen. On the contrary, some may say that Joseph Bruce Ismay is innocent and Stanley Lord, captain of SS Californian, is mostly at fault. They say that because the SS Californian was 19 miles away from the Titanic when it hit the iceberg, they were sending large white lights in the sky and radio calling Stanley. Well they are wrong. They are wrong because Stanley Lord s ship was surrounded by ice and tried contacting the Titanic. To say it again another way, Joseph Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500 lives lost on April 14th, 1912. The reasons are he demanded food right after the incident, lowered the amount of lifeboats, and he took a spot on the lifeboat knowing women and children go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Example Of Phonetic Based Instructional Unit B.1. In order to fulfill my Teacher Work Sample assignment, I created a phonetic based instructional unit, The Foundations of Reading, for a level one through three, adult ESL class. I completed this in accordance with the following guiding learning goals: 1. Students will identify the letters and sounds of the English alphabet, 2. Students will recognize consonants and vowels, and 3. Students will learn short and long vowel sounds. Upon completion of the unit, and after reviewing student pre and post test scores, it became evident that the goal my students made the most improvement in was goal number two; Students will recognize consonants and vowels. Students achieved an average, combined score, on the Vowels and Consonants Pre test, of 88 percent. After receiving the corresponding instruction in this area, their combined average score improved eight percent to 96 percent. In analyzing this result, I believe there are two plausible reasons. B.1.a. One reason for the students success with this second goal may actually be the instruction they attained in pursuing the first goal Students will identify the letters and sounds of the English alphabet. While addressing the letters and most common phonetic sounds of the English alphabet, (including short vowels sounds) in lessons two and three, incidental discussions occurred regarding the vowels themselves, due to students curiosity, prior knowledge and the changeable nature of English vowels phonetic representations. ... • 18. John Locke And Locke s Theory Of Personal Identity A person is a thinking thing that has reason and reflection and thinks of itself as the same thinking thing over time. John Locke, an English philosopher argued that what makes a person able to identify themselves through time is continuity of one s memories and not the substance of the body. Bernard Williams, another English philosopher criticized Locke s theory of personal identity through his body switching experiment. William s argued that personal identity is found on the body and continuity of one s memories isn t necessary for personal identity. I am going to argue that personal identity is found on continuity of one s memories by presenting Locke s view of personal identity, presenting William s criticism of Locke s theory through his body switching experiments, and providing my own reasons on why personal identity can be found on continuity of one s memories and not the substance of the body. John Locke argued that people are able to identify themselves through time if they have continuity of memory. According to Locke, personal identity is found on continuity of memory and not the substance of either the soul or body.1 If humans were to lose their memory, it would be impossible to identify themselves just based upon their bodies. Memory must be preserved in order to preserve your personal identity.2 Locke, describes that all life forms in this universe are made up of atoms called a mass of matter . • 19. Chocolate Syrup and Milk Introduction: We were testing the solubility of the chocolate syrup brands while being stirred in whole milk. Our purpose is to see which of the major brands of syrup is most soluble and for what reason. This is important to our daily lives because it makes us aware of what types of materials we are ingesting and this applies to our experiment by seeing which of the ingredients take longer to dissolve. Information known is all brands are known to dissolve in milk but they all use different ingredients and they will cause a difference in the time it takes to dissolve. New information that will be gained from this experiment is which ingredients inside chocolate syrup will take the longest to dissolve, from the type of sugars in it to the syrups. We expected the Nesquik to dissolve the fastest because it did not contain any high fructose corn syrup while the other brand of syrup did. Also we observed from the syrups that nesquik was very thin, while the others were very thick and slow in behaviour. Our hypothesis is that the Nesquik will disintegrate the fastest in the milk because it lacks High Fructose Corn Syrup. Materials Procedures: Materials: 1. Hershey s Chocolate Syrup 2. Nesquik Chocolate Syrup 3. Great Value Chocolate Syrup 4. Any ONE of brand whole milk 5. Little Measuring cup 6. 3 cups 7. strainer 8. spoon 9. Large bowl 10. Teaspoon measurer Procedures: 1. • 20. The Theme Of Escape In James Joyce s Dubliners Human beings yearn for better lives, often through escape. The main characters in James Joyce s Dubliners are no exception. Characters such as Eveline in Eveline and Little Chandler in A Little Cloud have a longing to break free of Dublin s entrapment and pursue their dreams. Nevertheless, these characters never seem to achieve a better state; rather, they are paralyzed and unable to embark on their journey of self fulfillment. Joyce employs this motif of the empty promise of escape and its subsequent frustration through one s own responsibilities and purely physical acts. Through this, Joyce interconnects the different Dubliners stories to show that escaping life in a place as paralyzing as Dublin is no easy task on the individual. Eveline s internal struggle illustrates clearly how one struggles between the past and the future, leading to the failure to escape. While weighing her options as to whether or not leave Dublin, Eveline remembers her mother s wishes: Her promise to her mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could (Joyce 40). Even though Eveline s home contains an abusive father, absence of family members, and the struggles of domestic work, she is unable to let go. Awaiting her a promised adventurous and free spirited life with her respectful and kind lover, Frank. He has the ability to rescue Eveline from a troubling past and allow her to enter a new phase in her life, liberated from the ugliness of Dublin. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Analysis Of Blowin In The Wind Dylan s early music, written as part of this folk revival, reflects this individualist style of political folk songs, but the degree and subject of political conviction seems to be less important to him than the expression of emotion, and a certain identification of himself as being political. This is readily apparent in his work from the 1963 album The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . Two of his great early political forays, Blowin in the Wind and Masters of War , play in quite nicely with the notion that this generation of folk artists were more abstract, asking less rational, or rhetorical, questions, and expressing an anger with the world, but not offering much in the way of action. The second verse of Blowin in the Wind expresses an anger with society s willingness to sit idly by in the face of injustices, but due to its vague language, this anger is not directed at any particular instance of injustice: How many years can some people exist/Before they re allowed to be free/Yes, n how many times can a man turn his head/And pretend that he just doesn t see/The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind/The answer is blowin in the wind. Moreover, the refrain is also incredibly ambiguous, and like much of the ephemeral political music of the time, doesn t offer a concrete solution to the problem. Masters of War offers a scathing indictment of the arms build up of the Cold War. Much of the song calls for the death of the war profiteers, and offers a grim image in ... Its uses range from decorations to something as common as a household mirror. Others use glass to see more than just themselves; they use it to see the world. Additionally in the play, glass itself is an everyday object with a deeper meaning; the glass animals themselves are symbols of the uniqueness of individual people and Laura relies on them (like one would glasses) to cope with the world around her. Spectacles take something nonsensical, and turn it into a clear picture; much like how spectacles in the play, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, clarifies the theme of realism. • 26. The Shape And Thickness Of Intertidal Snail Littorina... Charles Pham Evolution Dr. Hellack Feb. 4th, 2016 Between 1871 and 1984, the shape and thickness of intertidal snail Littorina obtusata has changed dramatically in northern parts of New England. Shells that were collected in the 19th century were observed to possess characteristics of being high spired with thin walls, while those collected between 1982 and 1984 were low spired with thick walls. It was noted that an intertidal crab Carcinus maenas which preys on L. obtusata had ironically expanded its range into the northern parts of New England around 1900. (Seeley, 1986). Considering the significance of these two various characteristics, one may hypothesize that the various shell morphology is due to speciation (Ha) or, with careful experimentations, another proposed hypothesis (Ho) can be that the change in L. obtusata shell morphology was due to natural selection in response to the predation of C. maenas. The shape and thickness of the shell (dependent variable) is a function to the presence of C. maenas (independent variable). Rapid morphological transitions in organisms have been difficult to witness, especially for ecologist and paleontologist. This has raised concerns for some evolutionary biologist whom suggest that transitional forms are not visible in the fossil record and represent speciation events. Seeley (1986) reported that a rapid morphological transition did indeed occur in the intertidal snail Littorina obtusata between 1871 and 1984 in response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis Younger Dryas Climate Event Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region.
