Use of Symbolism, Tone, and Irony in The Swimmer, by John...
Finding home boarded up; a sensation of coldness and unwelcoming takes over. Sudden
misfortunes arise from what was once a perfect life, and the world appears upside down. Attempts
to remember what went wrong fail. Memories are unclear and time seems blurry. At one time, John
Cheever found himself in this position, using alcohol to ignore his problems. John Cheeverwas born
in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1912. In 1941, he moved to suburban Westchester and eventually
became addicted to alcohol, which is a recurrent motif in many of his short stories. He died in 1982
from cancer. In his short story, The Swimmer, an affluent man named Neddy Merrill decides to

situations as he swam through the pools has caused society to ostracize him. At the beginning of
the story, he was ranked highly in society. At the end he is homeless and destitute. His reckless
decisions disregarding change have landed Ned where he is. Before he reaches the Welchers pool,
there is a thunderstorm that interrupts Ned s flow through the neighborhood pools. Previously,
there had been nothing that stopped Ned, but he could not help but notice that, It would storm.

for it to pass under the Levy s gazebo. He waited for the problems to fix themselves, which did not

Christianity In Dante s Inferno
Dante s Inferno details Dante the traveler s journey through the nine circles of Hell. After meeting
his guide, the eminent Roman poet Virgil, in a mythical dark wood, the two poets begin their
descent through a baleful world of doleful shades, horrifying tortures, and unending lamentation.
Through his journey, Dante discovers what it means to be a good and virtuous Christian by
learning from the mistakes of those being punished in the nine circles of hell. In this way it can be
seen that Dante, the poet, defined his notion of Christian purity in terms of the impure, especially
through Dante s interpretation of the nine circles of hell. Dante, the poet, envisions hell as nine
circles that increase in severity of punishment as the sinner descends.... Show more content on

Again Dante s guide explains that these are the souls whom anger overcame (59). He tells Dante
to take note that under the water are found Others, who once were grim and sullen in the sweet
air above, that took a further gladness from the play of the sun; inside [them], [they] bore acedia
s dismal smoke (59). Those people that could not move past their own emotions and enjoy the
world above are doomed to this dismal circle of hell. Dante shows that having wrath and misery in
your heart is immoral because it is these people who are doomed to hell. In contrast, those people
who forgive, love, and enjoy the world around them are not condemned to hell showing that a pure
Christian must not be wrathful or

HIPAA Pros And Cons
In 1996, the HIPPA act was passed. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),
which was directed to improve the areas in the health field. For instance, lowering the number of
errors and mistreatment, for individuals to have the access to transfer health coverage according to
their present situation, and most importantly it monitors security and confidentiality information to
ensure its being controlled in an accurate manner. This act gives congress ability to govern financial
matter such as, federal level funding processes pertaining to different health documentation.

One major benefits is health organizations can receive governmental subsidies, which can be an
increase in funding or other financial accommodations. An additional benefit is HIPAA gives health
organizations access to other creditable research throughout a variety of databanks systems. Having
this system also, minimize the amount of paper that health professionals have to deal with. Using
technology and these systems can be viewed as a more efficient and safer way to exchange health
data with other health location. It also, helps when needing certain information from the patient
they that maybe required for diagnoses, treatment, or other operations. Interoperability can be
considered another benefit HIPAA can also, prevent health organization from experiencing lawsuits
or having huge fines. For some health locations setting certain value, vision and missions come
from the implementing of HIPAA. Possible drawbacks that can occur for HIPAA is when
compensation is decreasing according to the balanced budget act standards. In addition, a drawback
can surface from using other systems like outpatient payment system in which, causes a decrease in
profit. To maintain these systems and programs cost, therefore, having to continuously update and
maintain HIPAA can be come costly. However, if these organizations follow proper protocol the
marginal benefits outweighs the marginal cost.

The Mirror At The Tears Staining My Face
I looked in the mirror at the tears staining my face. I saw someone who wasn t me, and all I saw
were flaws. I told myself that I had to be different and better in many ways. In that moment I
realized that being someone I m not is what brought me here. I am who I am and no one can stop
that.
January 11, 2003. That s the day I was born. My family immediately loved me, (as most families
do.) but they barely had any time to give me attention because of their busy work and travel
schedules. They weren t like many other parents however because they would do anything for me,
and the reason they worked so hard was for our family to live a better life.
One amazing thing came out of my parents working was that I got to spend tons of time with my
grandparents. I have a bond with them that I don t believe anyone else could have with their
grandparents. They would bring me to so many places like to museums and to the botanic gardens,
and we would have a blast.
I remember a time when I was only three, and they had picked me up from drama class. I had
assigned them characters and we went to my house and put on a big show. That s when I
realized how much I liked acting and writing. We would do new shows every day together. When I
came to their house we would choose from a list of games to play and I got to be creative.
One game was called Tooth Fairy . (This was my favorite.) In this game, Grandma would pretend
to be the tooth fairy and I would lay in my bed and Grandpa would

Introduction to the E Series
This is the forth book in the E Series How to Beat Your Competition Selling Real Estate to Foreign
Buyers. The E Series will eventually summarize All You Have to Know to successfully market and
sell real estate to international buyers.
Why would you need the real estate buyers from abroad?
All real estate is local as the old saying goes, but buyers are not! In today s internet times you can
sell goods, services and real estate to anybody in the world without borders. The 2015 report of the
National Association of Realtors (U.S.) states that 8% of all home sales across the country were
attributed to the foreign buyers; at the same time, according to the Florida Association of
Realtors the number of the international buyers was 21% of all the home sales in the state. Then
California followed with 16% of the foreign buyers. In some other countries and cities according
to some internet sources: 17% of all real estate buyers in Spain were coming from abroad, up to
60% in Greece, up to 85% (!) in London, England, etc.
The information provided in the E Series in general and in this e book How to Plan and Budget for
Success in International Property Sales in particular is highly useful for any real estate sellers in
any country who want to expand the buyers market for their residential or commercial properties

The Ethicality Of The Patient-Physician Relationship
The patient physician relationship is either contractual (where the physician mutually agrees to
provide medical services to the patient) or consensual (where patient seeks the Physician and the
Physician accepts the patient with knowledge and consent). This relationship continues
irrespective of who pay s to the patient care, so, all patients are equally treated regardless of their
economic status (Steiner, 2013). The principal need of a dedicated doctor is to consider the
wellbeing and prosperity of the patient. In a doctor patient alliance, there is impressive therapeutic
power that enhances the quality and health condition of a patient where doctors help clear their
doubt, fear, and confusion of illness therby, being a valued blessing in human lives (Raina, 2014)....

This contract may be either express or implied. In an express contract, the Physician has limited
scope and he is not held responsible for all the medical needs of the patient, whereas, in implied
contract, the relationship is based on Physician s conduct. The patient physician relationship
terminates when the patient no longer requires medicare, if the relationship is withdrawn by the
patient, when the patient s care is referred to another doctor, or when the physician cannot provide
the care he can withdrew by legally giving a notice to the patient. Physician withdrawl is usually
seen when they retire or leave their practice care (Steiner, 2013). This might result in a difficulty
for patients to find a substitute who can provide them good care and at times long term therapies
can be hindered and patients may suffer due to lack of continuity and consistency in (Sampson,

In A View From the Bridge by Arthur Miller, Eddie Carbone s pride is the cause of his downfall.
Eddie s pride played an important role in the story because it caused Eddie to go from being a
happy man with a loving family, to his death and his loss of pride. Eddie s pride began leading to
his downfall early on, when Rodolpho and Catherine began showing interest in eachother. Eddie
loved Catherine and refused to let her be with Rodolpho. Eddie felt superior to Rodolfo and his
pride would not allow them to be together. Eddie attempted to assert his dominance over Rodolpho.
In one instance Eddie came home drunk and found Catherine and Rodolpho in the bedroom

Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of...
A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses
in the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by
Alfred Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single
supercontinent, approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate
tectonics, began to break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and
geophysical evidence have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the
Late Triassic Early Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic
time, inconsistencies are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. These
inconsistencies are seen in Late Paleozoic paleomagnetic data apparent polar wander paths
(APWPs) for Laurussia and Gondwana. To fit Wegner s Pangea reconstruction, the APWPs suggest
a substantial crustal overlap and shearing (Domeier et al., 2012). This paper looks to review
proposed alternative reconstructions for Pangea, using paleomagnetic data as the quantifiable
method for determining the supercontinent s location.
Paleomagnetic data as evidence for Plate Tectonics
Paleomagnetism is the study of earth s magnetic field as preserved in the magnetic orientation of
certain minerals. For example, when igneous rocks are formed, during cooling, certain minerals
align themselves with the earth s magnetic field and

Food Chemistry Focuses on the Production of Processed Food
Food chemistry is a newer field of chemistry that focuses on the production processes of food.
There are various steps in the process, such as production, processing, storage and handling, as well
as their chemical structures.1 This is important information to know especially because it s the
study of what we consume on a daily basis for nourishment. Not only are there federal regulations
that must be met, but individuals are also seeking information past these regulatory requirements to
investigate and see what they are putting into their bodies. Food chemistryallows for these things to
occur. One aspect of food chemistry that is an ongoing area of research is food aroma. There are
different techniques available for identification of aroma compounds, and different techniques are
also used for quantification of these compounds. One technique used is dynamic headspace gas
chromatography (DHGC), in which a sample is analyzed through a method that vaporizes and
separates its components and can be coupled with a mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer can
further separate the components by its mass and charge and results can be displayed and analyzed.
This paper will focus on why dynamic headspace gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are
best served for use in the quantification of aroma compounds. Aroma compounds are simply the
components responsible for odors in food. The aroma of a food does not come from one particular
component, but comes from the combination

Essay about The Death Penalty
The most severe of all sentences: that of death. Also known as the death penalty, capital punishment
is the most severe form of corporal punishment as it is requires law enforcement officers to kill the
offender. It has been banned in many countries. In the United States, an earlier move to eliminate
capital punishmenthas now been reversed and more and more states are resorting to capital
punishment for serious offenses such as murder. In this essay, I will elaborate on capital
punishment and on the cases of Joe Guy, Tommy Zeigler, Leroy Orange, and Charles Munsey.
The Bible mentions that one should not take another s life and people have been violating this for
centuries. We use it in reference to burglary, adultery, love and many... Show more content on

Consider those jurisdictions that eschew capital punishment altogether. What sanction can such
jurisdictions really apply to those who have already been sentenced to life in prison without parole?
Sentences of this sort may take more lives overall by increasing the number of essentially
unpunishable within prison homicides of guards and fellow inmates.53 Many murderers are killed
in prison even in states that lack the death penalty.54 And if murderers are eventually paroled into
the general population, some of them will kill again. Overall, it is quite possible that the permanent
incapacitation of murderers through execution might save lives on net. A finding that capital
punishment deters and deterrence is our focus here is sufficient but not necessary to find a life life
tradeoff.
With this being said capital punishment is serving in a positive way. If capital punishment
spectator would look at it this way, and publicize it in a manner to get a message across to the
violent offenders these corrupt crime wave would drop dramatically.
In the case involving Joe Guy, he was convicted for his role in a 1993 convenience store robbery

alleged to be the unarmed lookout, received the death sentence; the alleged mastermind and
shooters, in separate trials, received life sentences. Here a man is a lookout and is getting ready to

Yet among men there are some endowed with vision, an insight more penetrating and more

This phrase means to reflect the driving genius behind such philanthropist entrepreneurs as John D.

Within three years of purchasing this television station, Turner turned it into a profitable company
by offering low cost sports and entertainment to the public. By 1975, this initially local television
system, now named Turner Broadcasting Systems (TBS), had gained a nationwide audience and
was given the nickname Superstation . A year later, Turner bought the Atlanta Braves for a mere
$11 million, thus saving the near bankrupt baseball team from a certain demise. Since then, we
recognize the Atlanta Braves as World Series champions and inevitable yearly contenders. In 1977,
Ted Turner bought yet another Atlanta enterprise, the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. In the same
year, he skippered the winning yacht the Courageous in the America s Cup race against Australia.
In 1980, Turner founded the Cable News Network (CNN), the first twenty four hour television
news station. This idea was tremendously innovative and no expert in the industry would have it
to be a successful. However, through its continuous live coverage of breaking stories around the
world, it has become a highly respected news station and has gained global viewership. Five years
after the birth of CNN Ted Turner made the purchase of the MGM/UA entertainment company,

Turner sold the company, but kept the entire MGM film library. Thus, he had paid $1.6 million for

Povidone Iodine And Antiseptics
The importance of choosing the right antiseptic for an invasive procedure should not be
underestimated. In fact, there is a strong correlation between the choice of antiseptic and the risk of
infection (Al Maqbali, 2013; Kunkle, Marchan, Safadi, Whitman, Chmait, 2011; Levin et al., 2011;
Macias et al., 2013; Sviggum et al., 2012). Infection is something that healthcare providers,
especially nurses, can play a huge role in preventing. Therefore, it is important that nurses have

Difference Between New England And Chesapeake Colonies
During the Ages of Exploration, various European nations, such as Spain, French and England,
created colonies in the newly discovered America. England, in particular, created settlements near
the East coast of North America. The reason behind the rapid expansion and colonization was the
idea of mercantilism. Mercantilism is when the mother country, England, exports more than it
imports. The colonies were responsible for bringing the raw materials to the mother country, where
it was turned into finished goods and then be exported. Mercantilism was believed to be a zero sum
game, which meant that if one country had something, other countries could not take it. Since
Spain already had various settlementsin the New World, England wanted to compete with them and
gain land to become more economically advanced. Two particular regions of settlement for the
English colonies were the Chesapeake region and New England. The Chesapeake region include
present day Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The New England region included Massachusetts
Bay Colony, Plymouth, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Although they were both English colonies,
they had developed distinct societies. People left England to go to the New World for different
reasons. Whether it was for religious or for political reasons, it had caused the two regions of
settlement to differ from each other in the colonies social, political, religious, and economic aspects.

Aluminium alloys which are widely used across the globe can be produced in two different ways:
1.Primary alloys are produced from pure molten aluminium which are melted along with addition

Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should
abortion be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to
History Channel, Supreme Court legalizes abortion , in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe
V. Wade ruled that women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This
law gave women the right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked
huge controversy between pro life and pro choice believers. Both pro life and pro choice have
numerous arguments to justify their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, Abortion Reasons
Women Choose Abortion, nine out of ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks.
Abortion should be legal because it is a women s constitutional right, mental and physical health,
and other. Women have the right to choose what to do with their bodies and or self. The most
common phrase said is My Body, My Choice women have rights just like men do. We are
surrounded by rights. We all must make choices in our lives based on what we believe is safe and
best for ourselves at that time. Thus, women have that right to decide to have an abortion or not. A

After the financial crisis in 1998 and the decrease of imported ice cream, the market offered
good opportunities for new domestic entrants. They often already owned the facilities where
they produced for example frozen food and so it was relatively easy to change to ice cream
production. With the needed assets they already possessed they did not face economies of scale
and high initial costs as barrier to entry. And the new regional producers try to compete with the
product differentiation by selling cheaper no name brands. The threat of entry from
international producers could also rise again, if the Russian economy seems to be stable again.
Now it will be look at the threat of rivalry for Ice Fili coming from established competitors in the

Leonardo Da Vinci s Secrets Essay
In Leonardo da Vinci s paintings there are clues that reveal hidden messages. At first glance, his
paintings may seem just like normal paintings, but at second glance they are not that simple. For
example, Mona Lisa has captivated humanity for centuries because of her smile and her mysterious
identity and the small details in The Last Supper have posed questions about what they mean.
Leonardo da Vinciattracts me because through his art he may reveal to us some hidden truths about
the past and also because he knows the identity of the women in The Mona Lisa.

( Zaman, par. 5).
People have analyzed the Mona Lisa painting in hopes of discovering the identity of the sitter.
Consequently, several theories have been proposed about Mona LIsa s identity, but the mystery
still remains. For example, Dr. Lillian Schwartz used computer technology to compare Mona
Lisa s facial features with that of Leonardo da Vinci. After carefully overlying their faces, she
saw that their facial features aligned. This made her theorize that Leonardo painted himself as a
woman ( Scientific Organization, par. 6). However, there is another theory that states that their
faces align perfectly because Mona Lisa is Leonardo s daughter ( Leonardo da Vinci s, sec. More
theories ). Yet another theory believes that the women in this painting is his mother Caterina. So,
which one of these theories is actually a fact? As you can see, no theory satisfactorily answers the
question, Who is Mona Lisa? ( Scientific Organization, par. 3).
The only way art lovers, such as myself, can answer this old, yet intriguing question is by going
back to Leonardo Da vinci s time and spending a quiet afternoon with him: Taking a walk through
the quiet streets of Florence, Italy, the place where Mona Lisa was created with Leonardo by my
side, witnessing him paint the famous painting himself in his office, and asking him all these
unanswered questions.
As mentioned earlier, there is another painting painted by Leonardo

Lab Report On Bacterial Growth
Abstract This experiment is about bacterial growth. We will demonstrate a bacterial growth
curve using a closed system. Bacterial growth usually takes up to 12 24 hours to get an accurate
result so we will be monitoring this growth between two classes. We also used different methods
to determine bacterial growth as well as a few different calculations. One way of receiving data is
by using a spectrophotometer where we will record the absorption at a given time to create the
bacterial growthcurve. We also used the plate count method after performing a serial dilution to
calculate the actual cell density at different times given. By using this method we can count the
population number of the same given and see the maximum cell density... Show more content on

The lag phase is when the organisms are first place into a new medium and will take time to get
used the their new environment. During this phase, organisms will grow in size but cannot
replicate. The next phase is the log phase. In this phase cells are dividing and growing at a very
fast rate. DNA replication begins in this phase as well as their metabolic rate starts to increase
rapidly. (Bacterial Growth Curve) Cells divide by binary fission. The organisms will eventually
reach maximum growth and start to level off beginning the next phase, the stationary phase. In this
phase, the bacterial population will start to slow down and stop dividing because the nutrients
needed for them to grow are being used up. The pH and temperatures start to shift making the
environment and unfavorable one and the accumulation of waste and toxic metabolites the growth
starts to die off, transitioning into the last and final stage. (Bacterial Growth Curve) The death
phase is when there is longer any nutrients to grow and to much waste has built up along with toxic
materials, killing the cells. However, some organisms can withstand this environment and begin to
produce endospores. (Bacterial Growth Curve) A few different factors that affect bacterial growth

Roles Of Women In Ancient Greek Society
Women s Place in Ancient Greek Society
Women in antiquity did not have an easy life. In an era where man rules, women have limited
freedom and few rights. Women s roles differed little from Rome, Egypt, and China. There were
few exceptions: women living in the city of Sparta had some nobility and rose to power, for
example, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and military victory. Besides those above, women of that
era were limited to an education, mobility, and their roles was housewives and childbearing.
Women had little time to involve herself in the political goings on in that era.
A woman s fate was controlled by the father and passed down to the husband afterwards. Women
of the antiquity were married in their early teens to older husbands. The marriages were arranged
by the Father s bride and often the bride did not meet the husband until marriage details had been
worked out. Virginity was valuable for women in antiquity, as well loyalty and fidelity. For a
woman to divorce it needed the permission from a male member of the family (the father). Women
were not allowed to own land or dispose property as she pleases. Also, they are prohibited to
participate in politics, buy goods or sell services. Men believed women only cause despair, chaos,
and confused situations even more, that they are incapable of decision making

Decisions are much easier to take. However, the experience of convergence IASB/FASB shows
that many years are necessary to ensure the convergence of two reference frames however based
on the same Anglo Saxon culture of the businesses. This is due primarily to an existence of an
opposition between an approach by the rules in the case of FASB and an approach by the
principles which follows IASB. IASB is at the center of the convergence movement. The IFRS are
described like founded on principles, which means that they leave a big freedom of action to the
companies about the evaluation of the accounting data. The US GAAP are described like founded
on rules and they aim to regulate all the possible aspects of the presentation of the accounts. These
standards thus require very detailed information on behalf of the companies. In the case of
convergence between IASB and FASB, the harmonization of the IFRS and US GAAP is currently
working and common solutions have already been found. That do not prevent from the divergence
of several points of view, among the principal aspects to be solved one we think about the financial
instruments and the presentation of the performances. Some of the differences between US GAAP
and IFRS are embodied in the standards themselves. They are intentional deviations from US
requirements. Americanocentrism Some countries adopted some international standards

Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American...
Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American
orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental
policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should
understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slaveryto himself and defends the freedom for
those in slavery. While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for
African American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero
because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and
education. Frederick Douglass portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in
his autobiography, beginning from slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept
anything less than his own physical, spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never
hesitates to focus on his determination. According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of
courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to read the New Testament with over forty
people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his courage by sending him to another
owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous slaves. At that moment during
his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that comes to him. That spirit
is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and

The Innate Immune System And Pattern Recognition Receptors
The Innate Immune System and Pattern Recognition Receptors The innate immune system, which
is also known as the non specific immune system, is an important component of the immune system
that recognizes and responds to potential pathogens in a generic fashion. In contrast to the adaptive
immune system, the innate immune systemdoes not confer long lasting/protective immunity. The
innate immune system is typically considered the first line of defense and displays the ability to

non self molecules the innate immune system utilizes a range of pattern recognition receptors

excitement had overridden my boredom because my eyes would close, then a bolt of energy, or
excitement, surged through my body, keeping me awake. The honks of the cars kept me awake
as well. I love California for the waves and the beaches, but the traffic and the busy streets are

Management Styles Throughout the World
Running head: MANAGEMENT STYLES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Management Styles throughout the World
Tambra Sullivan
Minot State University BADM 535
Abstract
A management style is a leadership method used by a manager. As diverse as cultures are
throughout the world, so are management styles. A key value underlying the American business
system is reflected in the notion of a never ending quest for improvement. The prevailing question
is can it be done better? (Roa, 2010). In other cultures, the strength and power of those in command
rest on the premise that the status quo demands stable structure. (Roa, 2010). Researchers debate
whether it is organizational or ethnic culture that is predominant. In today s business environment,

It can create an environment of fear and resentment, leading to high turnover and absenteeism. It
can also stifle creative ideas and limit fresh ideas. (Kisner, 2011). Of all the management styles, this
one is the only one that lends itself toward a tendency for abuse by the manager. Some managers
take their role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in
public. It is also the least likely management style to show praise for a job well done, instead
opting for reprimands for mistakes made.
Democratic
Democratic leadership solicits input from others. (Bateman Snell, 2009). This type of manager is
open to the opinions of others and welcomes their contribution in the decision making process.
(Democratic Leadership, 2010). For this management style to work successfully, robust
communication between the managers and the subordinates is a must. It is best used when making
decisions on complex matters where a range of expert advice and opinion is required. An advantage
with this style, since employees are involved in the decision making process, they are more
committed to the desired outcome. Another advantage is it creates a collaborative environment,
often resulting in more thorough solutions to problems. (Democratic Leadership, 2010). Many
employees report that they find this work environment enjoyable and experience a

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common microvascular complications
in diabetes and can result in foot ulceration, ampuation and an impaired quality of life(Carrington

ranges from 16% to as high as 66%2 and its prevelance is believed to increase with the duration
of diabetes and poor glucose control.(Boulton AJ.et al 2000) It s accounts for 50 75% of non

Assessment and diagnosis
The early diagnosis of neuropathy is crucial to stop progression to advanced stages, and further
complications. (Toopchizadeh V., et al.2016) Early intervention can protect diabetic patients
from a risk of foot ulcers and amputation, improve the quality of life (Vlckova Moravcova E, et al
2008.Van Schie CH. 2008, Ismail K, et al 2007) and mitigate the socioeconomic consequences of
diabetic foot disease. (Davis WA,et al 2006,Lavery LA,et al 2007,Gordois A,et al 2003 )
The diagnosis of DPN is primarily clinical, based on clinical suspicion and confirmatory
examination findings from the history and examination, followed by the exclusion of other
potential causes.(Vinik A, et al 2013) Importantly, in any patients with neuropathy and specifically
patients with a severe form,it is essential to rule out any other causes apart from diabetes such as
,drug induced neuropathy (e.g. isoniazid) , alcohol abuse, nutritional deficiency like vitamin B12
deficiency(Wile DJ,et al 2010),vasculitis , inherited neuropathies, and renal disease (Freeman

the type of sensory fibers involved. About 50% of patients is symptomatic, commonly present with

Serenity of the Field Essay
As I drive up the hill, passing the mailbox and the meticulously groomed lawn, I find myself
taking on a transformation. I breathe a sigh of relief and feel the tension drain from my body in
anticipation of seeing my place. As I turn the corner I see it, to anyone else it just looks like a
simple field. But to me, it is my sanctuary that I can escape from the hectic world. This is where I
can relax and feel like I m a kid again. In my field, for a short while time stops, and I don t have to
worry what needs done next. This place also holds many wonderful memoriesas well as making new
ones each year.
The field right next to my mom s house and this is an area where I grew up, living there until I
moved off to school. I enjoyed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was also true when we were younger. But back then, we fought over who would be the
lucky one to wear the tattered Kermit the Frog puppet when we played our favorite game. This
occurred at night when we would catch lightening bugs and put them in an old mayo jar with
tiny holes poked in the lid. When we finally caught enough for the task at hand, we would fight
over who would be the one to wear the puppet. Then the bugs would be carefully transferred from
the jar to the puppet s mouth and skillfully squished all at once. We would all laugh in delight to
see the glow of Kermit s mouth as he danced up and down on the chosen one s hand. This game
would occur every night in the field until there weren t any more bugs left to catch and we moved
on by playing other games, which usually took place in the field as well.
The field was a prime spot to lie on a soft blanket and gaze at all of the stars shining like candles
flickering in the clear night sky. This is also the area from which we still watch the annual
Fourth of July fireworks and where all of the guys miraculously survive the fireworks display of
their own. They take hours setting up the fireworks on the homemade stands that are charred from
the previous years. After the tables are filled with the food that friends and family bring. It doesn t
take long for it all to disappear, except for my aunt s green bean casserole that she brings each year.
Then it gets dark and

Christianity, Christianity And The Teachings Of Christianity
Christianity has specific teachings within its religion that all christians practice. Christians believe
in the Trinity which is the Father, Son, and the Holy spirit. God is the father, son is Jesus, and the
holy spirit is a spirit. Another teaching of Christianity is that christian life is marked by baptism.
Baptism is when christians are submerged in water or water is sprinkled over their head and it
symbolizes purification. They practice this teaching because they believe that it is a way of
recognizing that Jesusdied for their sins, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead. Christians
also teach that the Bible is the word of God and they believe in the Bible and what the Bible says.
Islamteaches The Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam are Faith, Prayer, Charity,
Fasting, and Pilgrimage. Faith is the belief of one god, Prayer is praying five times a day,
Charity is giving or donating to those in need, Fasting is only eating after sunset to sunrise for a
whole month, and Pilgrimage is the journey to Mecca. The Five Pillars of Islam are practiced by
every Muslim. Another teaching within Islam is that they all believe in one god who is named
Allah. The last teaching is that Muhammad who was the last prophet of their god Allah is the
messiah, which means Muhammad is their messenger of god.
Monotheism is believing in only one god. Both Christianity and Islam are Monotheistic religions
and believe in the same god. They are also similar because

  • 2. Use of Symbolism, Tone, and Irony in The Swimmer, by John... Finding home boarded up; a sensation of coldness and unwelcoming takes over. Sudden misfortunes arise from what was once a perfect life, and the world appears upside down. Attempts to remember what went wrong fail. Memories are unclear and time seems blurry. At one time, John Cheever found himself in this position, using alcohol to ignore his problems. John Cheeverwas born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1912. In 1941, he moved to suburban Westchester and eventually became addicted to alcohol, which is a recurrent motif in many of his short stories. He died in 1982 from cancer. At the end he is homeless and destitute. His reckless decisions disregarding change have landed Ned where he is. Before he reaches the Welchers pool, there is a thunderstorm that interrupts Ned s flow through the neighborhood pools. Previously, there had been nothing that stopped Ned, but he could not help but notice that, It would storm. The stand of cumulus cloud that city had risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the percussiveness of thunder again (Cheever). The storm represents the rough, unpleasant changes in life. After the storm, the neighbors become unfriendly, and even those who were ranked under Ned before now disrespect him. Ned did not try to adapt to the storm, but rather opted out to wait for it to pass under the Levy s gazebo. He waited for the problems to fix themselves, which did not benefit him at all. The storm also plays with the idea of representing a period of time, because, Up to the midpoint of the story, the thunderstorm... has seemed like it would last forever... By introducing other ... • 3. Christianity In Dante s Inferno Dante s Inferno details Dante the traveler s journey through the nine circles of Hell. After meeting his guide, the eminent Roman poet Virgil, in a mythical dark wood, the two poets begin their descent through a baleful world of doleful shades, horrifying tortures, and unending lamentation. Through his journey, Dante discovers what it means to be a good and virtuous Christian by learning from the mistakes of those being punished in the nine circles of hell. In this way it can be seen that Dante, the poet, defined his notion of Christian purity in terms of the impure, especially through Dante s interpretation of the nine circles of hell. He tells Dante to take note that under the water are found Others, who once were grim and sullen in the sweet air above, that took a further gladness from the play of the sun; inside [them], [they] bore acedia s dismal smoke (59). Those people that could not move past their own emotions and enjoy the world above are doomed to this dismal circle of hell. • 5. The Mirror At The Tears Staining My Face I looked in the mirror at the tears staining my face. I saw someone who wasn t me, and all I saw were flaws. I told myself that I had to be different and better in many ways. In that moment I realized that being someone I m not is what brought me here. I am who I am and no one can stop that. January 11, 2003. That s the day I was born. My family immediately loved me, (as most families do.) but they barely had any time to give me attention because of their busy work and travel schedules. They weren t like many other parents however because they would do anything for me, and the reason they worked so hard was for our family to live a better life. One amazing thing came out of my parents working was that I got to spend tons of time with my grandparents. I have a bond with them that I don t believe anyone else could have with their grandparents. They would bring me to so many places like to museums and to the botanic gardens, and we would have a blast. I remember a time when I was only three, and they had picked me up from drama class. I had assigned them characters and we went to my house and put on a big show. That s when I realized how much I liked acting and writing. We would do new shows every day together. When I came to their house we would choose from a list of games to play and I got to be creative. One game was called Tooth Fairy . (This was my favorite.) The principal need of a dedicated doctor is to consider the wellbeing and prosperity of the patient. • 9. Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of... A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses in the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by Alfred Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single supercontinent, approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate tectonics, began to break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and geophysical evidence have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic time, inconsistencies are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. • 10. Food Chemistry Focuses on the Production of Processed Food Food chemistry is a newer field of chemistry that focuses on the production processes of food. There are various steps in the process, such as production, processing, storage and handling, as well as their chemical structures.1 This is important information to know especially because it s the study of what we consume on a daily basis for nourishment. Not only are there federal regulations that must be met, but individuals are also seeking information past these regulatory requirements to investigate and see what they are putting into their bodies. Food chemistryallows for these things to occur. One aspect of food chemistry that is an ongoing area of research is food aroma. There are different techniques available for identification of aroma compounds, and different techniques are also used for quantification of these compounds. One technique used is dynamic headspace gas chromatography (DHGC), in which a sample is analyzed through a method that vaporizes and separates its components and can be coupled with a mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer can further separate the components by its mass and charge and results can be displayed and analyzed. This paper will focus on why dynamic headspace gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are best served for use in the quantification of aroma compounds. Aroma compounds are simply the components responsible for odors in food. The aroma of a food does not come from one particular component, but comes from the combination ... England, in particular, created settlements near the East coast of North America. The reason behind the rapid expansion and colonization was the idea of mercantilism. Mercantilism is when the mother country, England, exports more than it imports. The colonies were responsible for bringing the raw materials to the mother country, where it was turned into finished goods and then be exported. • 31. Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American... Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slaveryto himself and defends the freedom for those in slavery. While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for African American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and education. Frederick Douglass portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in his autobiography, beginning from slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept anything less than his own physical, spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never hesitates to focus on his determination. According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to read the New Testament with over forty people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his courage by sending him to another owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous slaves. At that moment during his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that comes to him. That spirit is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and ... In contrast to the adaptive immune system, the innate immune systemdoes not confer long lasting/protective immunity. The innate immune system is typically considered the first line of defense and displays the ability to discriminate against self (host) vs. non self (non host/potential pathogens). I heard Mom talking about what she s going to do in Costa Rica, what kind of research she s going to do, blah blah blah. Then I heard something about funding two plane tickets. I looked up for a minute, then I just put my head back down cause I was too lazy to even think about it. After about three minutes, I got up and grabbed the index card with the short story I wrote. The blob of blue ink, I already knew what was behind it. Opportunity. Opportunity, for me? Or for Mom? I decided to grab the suitcase. I hastily unlocked the straps, and opened it. On Sunday and Monday, I told all of my friends that I can t do anything with them over the next two months because I was going to Costa Rica. They all had the same reaction I had when I saw the plane tickets. Jaws dropped, eyes wide, and hands on their heads. Even though we had an international airport in San Diego, we had to go to Los Angeles because that s the densest in terms of the people that work with Mom. I dreaded long car rides. Mom said that it would be about forty five minutes to get there, but as always, California traffic. I had butterflies in my stomach when I heard about the flight, just not the car ride. So Izzy, what do you want to do once we get there? Mom asked. Maybe we could go sightseeing or ziplining through the woods! I exclaimed. Just from that alone, my face lit up even more and a big smile was on my face. Soon after that though, I felt like a kid that was grounded. I think my excitement had overridden my boredom because my eyes would close, then a bolt of energy, or excitement, surged through my body, keeping me awake. The honks of the cars kept me awake as well. I love California for the waves and the beaches, but the traffic and the busy streets are what get me. After the long hour, we finally found a spot where we can park our rental. Then, we checked in through security and boarded the plane. The service people were one of the nicest people in the world. Some managers take their role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in public.
