Short Essay On Hades
I m finally venturing out of the Egyptian pantheon and moving north to explore the Greek Gods.
Specifically, Hades.
Why Hades? I think that a lot of people have a way of classifying Hades as Satan, the Devil, etc. I
wanted to do more in depth research to learn about the god himself, away from all the preconceived
notions.
Hades was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea (king and queen of the Titans) and brother to Zeus,
Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. Cronus was told that one day his rule would be usurped by one
of his children and felt the best way to avoid said coup was to swallow any and all children he sired.
Which he did . . . until Rhea bore his youngest child Zeus. She hid him away, and once he reached
maturity he confronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He isn t moved by prayer or sacrifice (although men still did them in his name). He seems to a somber,
serious deity . . . I wouldn t imagine living in the Underworld for eternity makes a merry disposition.
He is also VERY proprietary over what he considers is his. He considered the subjects of his kingdom
to be his property, and VERY VERY rarely ever let a soul leave. One story tells of Pirithoüs, a man
who fell in love with Persephone and was determined to rescue her. Along with Theseus, he entered
the Underworld, managing to bypass all the traps to arrive at Hades palace. Hades, however, found out
about the young man s plans; when the two arrived at Hades palace, Hades met them graciously. He
invited them to have a seat after their long travels . . . and motioned to the Chair of Forgetfulness.
They both forgot why they were there . . . but remembered they couldn t leave without Hades
permission. Theseus was eventually rescued by Hercules, but Pirithoüs was never allowed to leave . . .
punishment for trying to steal with belonged to Hades. He does have his dalliances with females other
than his wife (which, considering all the effort he put into capturing her does make him come across
as finicky). But compared to his brothers and sisters, his behavior is almost

The Chicago School Of Architecture
The Chicago School of Architecture was developed by William Le Baron Jenney between the years of
1879 1910. It is usually known as the term Chicago School for its skyscraper architecture (Chicago
School of Architecture 2). Not only did Jenney help develop the school, but other American architects
as well like William Holabird, Louis Sullivan, Martin Roche, and others as well. There were two
schools made during this period The First Chicago School of Architecture and The Second Chicago
School of Architecture. The second school centered around the European Modernism. Three factors
that contributed to the Chicago School of Architecture where the rapid need to build buildings to serve
the industrial society, the development of construction using steel, and the strong desire to create a
modern style. To begin with, after the fire of 1871, Chicago became a dense population, area and the
value of the state lived up. By 1890, Chicago had more than one million people and had surpassed
Philadelphia population and became second biggest city in the United States (Lowe 1). People started
to travel over to Chicago and started to settle there. The more people traveling to Chicago meant that
they would have to build more buildings both commercial and property. The problem was that
Chicago stood in a deluge, and then it was hard to build homes using the techniques they knew. They
knew how to build structures using the traditional walls of brick and stone, but was not capable to stay

Treasure Of Nimrud
The treasure of Nimrud is almost 175 pounds of ancient gold jewelry and artifacts. One of the most
famous object ever excavated, Golden Harp was vandalized by looters. The original discovery was
considered one of the most significant archaeological findings since the discovery of King Tut s tomb
nearly a century ago.
On March 19, 2003 Baghdad was under fire. Three weeks later, American tanks roll into the Iraq

Black Leaders of 20th Century
BLACK LEADERS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
CHAPTER 1 3
In the time after the fall of radical black reconstruction of the nineteenth century, African Americans
were being oppressed by rural farming, civil rights, economical advancement and sharecropping.
Booker T. Washington charged the fight for economical and political accommodation with his dream
of equal civil rights. Timothy Thomas Fortune was an influential black journalist that fought for the
rights of African Americans through literal resistance. The Lonely Warrior, Ida B. Wells was an
outspoken voice against lynching throughout America and fought against the oppression of men and
woman everywhere. Booker T. Washington was one of the last great African American leaders born

Fortune was a militant writer and editor, who was named the Agitator . He was known for his strong
personality, his straight forwardness and harsh opinions. Fortune was one who believed in the fight for
black rights and he fought to gain equality for blacks. In the fight against injustice, Fortune urged
women to support of the National African American League to help gain political power and equality.
Fortune even hired Ida B. Wells Barnett as an anti lynching writer for the Globe . At this time, fortune
was considered a radicalist and Washington was considered as being safe and reasonable. In 1907,
Fortune sold his newspaper The Age and then his years of being a great leader came to an end. On
June 2, 1928 in Philadelphia at his home he passed away. Ida B. Wells–Barnett was said to be the
Joan of Arc of the 1920 s. As the anti lynching spokeswomen for African American, Wells showed
courage and independence in her attack on lynching {upon what ever she seemed fit to attack.} She
was born into slavery during the Civil War in 1862. She witnessed the loss of both parents to yellow
fever and also saw the brutal lynching of three of her close friends in Memphis. These tragic events
inspired Wells to launch a crusade against lynching at the age of thirty years old. Wells spoke out
against lynching, Jim Crow Laws and segregation. She published

The Islamic State Of Iraq
The Islamic State has been created in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq by a Jordanian in order to expel
Americans. The movement has been linked to Al Qaeda but has been weaken by the American
offensive. However since 2011 the organization has used the Syrian civil war to regain influence and
territories. In 2013 Al Qaeda rejected the movement because of its violence. They tried to create an
alliance with Al Nosra which refused because of its violence too. The Islamic State has been known
under several names: first Tawhid wal Djihad, Al Qaeda in Iraq, Islamic State of Iraq, Islamic State of
Iraq and the Levant, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and then Islamic State. But under its different

The USA has really reconsidered the threat of this group after the kidnapping and execution of two
American journalists and the quick rising tide of the organization. So how the USA is dealing with the
ISIS threat and is its strategy suitable? We may wonder why the Islamic State is difficult to struggle,
what is the American strategy to eradicate this terrorist group and what are the limits of the strategy of
the international coalition led by the USA.
The Islamic State is currently considered as the major threat of the USA according to a recent survey
on American people . But is this group really strong, well equipped and so a threat for the West?
Firstly the Islamic State is the wealthiest terrorist group of the world. At the beginning some Gulf
countries have helped the group but have stopped with the raising of its violence. But now the group is
self financed with racketeering and robbery of conquered territories. For instance the capture of the
city of Mossoul gave a lot of money staying in its banks. But the group is also using the money of
ransoms for hostages and is mainly dealing lots of oil. However this wealth is not the only reason of
its strength. The problem is that we do not know accurately the allies or supporters of the Islamic
State. As a consequence we do not know exactly the men that the organization has in its ranks.

Indian Rebellion Research Paper
The Portuguese were the first group of Europeans to enter Indian shores under Vasco da Gama in
1498. Goa, Bombay, Daman and Diu were set up as trading posts in India by the Portuguese. Goa
remained a base until 1961, when it was seized by the Republic of India. The Portuguese were
followed by the Dutch, who set up their main base in Ceylon, present day Sri Lanka; the British with
their base in Surat and the French. Colonisation in India occurred due to the internal conflicts within
the various ruling dynasties of India. European traders established political influence and acquired

The Anglo wars brought the kingdom of Mysore, regions under the Maratha confederacy, kingdoms of

British rule. By the second half of the nineteenth century, the British had exclusive control over most
parts of the Indian subcontinent, including present day Bangladesh and Pakistan. The oppressive
British rule over India for nearly a century resulted in mass uprisings and revolts against the Company
that culminated in the Revolt of 1857. The result of this rebellion was that power over India was
transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown. The Indian Penal Code and reforms in
the field of education came into being post 1857. Under the British Raj, Indian economy and

Essay about Melting Ice Caps
Melting Ice Caps The Arctic is global warming s canary in the coal mine. It is a highly sensitive area
which is profoundly affected by the changing climate. The average temperature in the Arctic is rising
twice as fast as elsewhere in the world (nrdc.org). Because of this, the ice cap is getting thinner,
melting away, and rupturing. Here is an example of this; the largest ice block in the Arctic, the Ward
Hunt Ice Shelf, had been around for 3000 years before it started cracking in 2000 (nrdc.org) By 2002,
the Ward Hunt has cracked completely through and had started breaking into smaller pieces. The
melting ice caps are affecting the earth and its inhabitants in many ways. In this paper, the following

Generations before us did not take this measure, but maybe our generation should. The melting ice
caps are having a dramatic affect on the polar regions of the earth. For example, the average
temperature in the Arctic is rising twice as fast than the rest of the world (nrdc.org). The once
prominent ice is now melting at a dramatic speed, which is affecting native people, wildlife, and
plants. When the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf splintered, the freshwater lake that it surrounded drained into
the ocean, along with the ecosystem that inhabited it. Polar bears, whales, walrus and seals are
changing their feeding and migration patterns, making it harder for native people to hunt them
(nrdc.org). Because of the flooding, entire villages will be uprooted order to avoid being swamped.
Also, the Arctic coastlines are beginning to move as well. The melting ice caps are threatening the
native peoples cultural identity and their very survival. Ice dependant animals, such as walruses and
ring seals will be greatly affected by the melting ice caps (treehugger.com). They have fewer places to
rest on, as well as fewer places to hunt. If the ice caps keep melting, their lives will become in great
danger. The melting ice caps are not only affecting the Polar Regions, but they are also affecting the
rest of the world as well in the form of rising ocean levels. Melting ice caps are contributing to rising
ocean levels as well.

How Is Holden Caulfield A Pathological Liar
In the book The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield is introduced as the main
character and as the protagonist. Holden is a unique character, who suffers from a mental disorder.
Although it is never mentioned, one can infer that he has one. These mental disorders never stop him
from showing who he truly is and what he feels. A very important emotion that he has is how caring
he actually is towards everyone despite his actions. To begin with, Holden never speaks about having
a mental disorder, but it is portrayed that he does. The first disorder you can notice is how he is a
pathological liar. A pathological liar is someone who long history (maybe lifelong history) of frequent

The Economic Problem Of Homelessness
Economic problems such as being laid off of work or the rise in the cost of housing has lead people to
live on the streets. Many of the homeless are women that have become divorced or have left home
because of physical abuse. These women have no education because they have not been given the
chance to go and get the education that it takes nowadays to get the job, so they are forced to live on
the streets. They have no family to help them and they are left with no other choice. People with
mental illnesses also become homeless quite often. These people are incapable of handling the stress
of living on their own. These people get kicked out of their homes and are too ashamed to go to their
families because of their illness, so we see them on the streets struggling to stay warm. Teenage
mothers are also forced to live on the streets because their families will not help them. The fathers are
not there and that forces them to live on the streets. So, they must resort to prostitution to pay for the
food that their young ones need to stay alive. There are many other people that become homeless for
many different reasons. Some of these people cannot help becoming homeless. Some of these people
are the illegal immigrants that come here from other places to get a better life but end up not having
enough money to make it in this hard world that we live in. Teenage runaways have different reasons
for leaving home but all have some of the same reason for becoming homeless. They simply

The Controversy On Whether Sweatshops Should Be Banned
INTRODUCTION
Sweatshops have been a popular and serviceable business, although there are a lot of controversy on
whether sweatshops should be banned and hows pay wages should be higher. Many people believe
that sweatshops are unfair, cruel and unlawful, whereas others think that sweatshops are a second
chance for many people living in developing countries. The dictionary definition of a sweatshop is
factory or workshop, especially in the clothing industry, where manual workers are employed at very
low wages for long hours and under poor conditions, it is defined by the US Department of Labor as a
factory that violates 2 or more labor laws. Sweatshops are a frequent ordeal in many countries, all over
the globe, with a variety of perspectives.

These changes later spread across the world, and together they became known as the Industrial
Revolution. By the 1850s, there were factories in many parts of Britain and around the world, and
large, busy towns were developing around them. Although the factory owners were growing rich and
lived in grand houses, the workers were paid very little and were extremely poor. They lived in dirty,
crowded parts of town, known as the slums. This was the beginning of sweatshop history, With factory
towns sprouting all over countries , many farm families left their land in order to make money in the
new cities. The factory workers lived in the slums; they shared cramped living quarters with many
other families in dirty and disease infested communities. Many of the conditions just described seem
to match with the well known ways of sweatshops now. This proves how little sweatshops have
developed. Many people would agree that this a sinking point in the developing countries, but others
would say that if the factories had improved more people would be poor, and in

In mid of 2014, a big merger and acquisition news was published in different print and electronic
media was that the AT T Inc. s acquisition of satellite TV provider DirecTV. AT T will pay $48 billion
in cash and $17 billion in debt. This acquisition will make AT T as a unique competitor with un
parallel capabilities in mobile, video and broadband internet services (Anonymous. 2014). AT T will
borrow some money and will issue stocks to perform the deal. The additional cash flow will be used to
cover up the debt. The merger/acquisition is still under process.
1. When the deal has been successfully completed, it is expected to generate synergies in scale and
scope for AT T. AT T will be able to increase its video customers from 5.7 million (U verse only) to 26
million (Rogowsky, M., no date). AT T will also be able to provide wireless combined with u Verse
and DirecTV, which will attract more customers. This merger/acquisition will increase its market

When two companies offer the similar or compatible products or services in the same market and
combines together under one owner is called horizontal merging (Linton, no date). So, this is a
horizontal merger which will increase the company s cash flow and profit/revenue.
3. Although it is very complicated task to integrate the both companies successfully under one
umbrella. But AT T has previous merger experience which can lead to successful integration of the
companies.
4. I think there will be no market concentration occurred as a result of this merger/acquisition.
Because due to this acquisition the monopoly of the other giant company in this business will be
reduced. This will lead to increase the price competition.

Comparative Commentary Essay
The first extract is from a novel called Chocolat by Joanne Harris which was published in 1999,
whereas the second extract is from a website of the From Bean to Bar chocolate company which was
published in 2006. Both extracts concern themselves with chocolate and the way it is manufactured,
although they both have different intentions. The first extract is from a novel and describes the
delightful pleasure of creating chocolate, whereas the second extract is used to promote and advertise
the chocolate and make it more appealing to the reader, and also focuses on the importing and the
cocoa plant itself.
The first extract is from a novel, which can be seen by a variety of techniques which are common for
novels. The text is written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the text shows a thematic development, which are split up into the different paragraphs. On
the other hand, the second extract uses a larger variety of structures throughout the text. In the first
paragraph the company is introduced and the beliefs which the company has ( We believe that every
step from ban to bar is equally important ). Further, under a heading with care the history of the
chocolate beans and how they reach the factory is described and then bullet points are used to describe
how chocolate is created from the beans. Therefore, this text also has a thematic development, but in
this text it is supposed to familiarize the reader with product and the process to allow the reader to
trust the brand, due to the traditional way of producing chocolate.
The register of the first extract is rather informal, since it explains the story of the narrator and her/his
passion creating a very personal relationship between the narrator and the reader. A very important
part of the extract is to show the fascination and the passion about chocolate, therefore, the diction is
customized to transfer these emotions. Diction such as raw dullish blocks and powerfully suggestive
shows that chocolate is connected to emotions due to the descriptive adjectives used to describe the
chocolate, its history and its process. This informal register allows the reader to be captured by the

that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see. Even
though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a peaceful
and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!) and other

would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day.
Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there were
no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a direction and
just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking, and occasional

I m not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt? Remarked
Fluffy.
Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her, We

Conflict Is The Cause Of Conflict
Religion, socio economic problems, land problems etc. are the main reasons that lead to conflict. But,
recent study has come to show that an integral cause of conflict is a lack of resources; whether in a
country, village, or even a business. Resources such as time, money and equipment are often scarce.
Looking from a business perspective, when a certain group of employees get access to resources that
others do not, conflict may arise among employees or between employees and management. And now

Essay On Concussions In Sports
The effects of too many concussions and other injuries sustained during contact sports can carry on for
the rest of your life if the case is severe enough. Most of the time, however, concussions are very
minor and only require a short time period of rest. If enough concussions do occur during an athlete s
life, say the amount a professional football player or hockey player might have endured, chronic
traumatic encephalopathy could take place. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy occurs when an athlete
endures repeated blows to the head that resulted in concussions or a secondary blow to the head while
the brain is still recovering from a concussion. Usually, the brain returns back to its normal state if it
has the proper testing and time to heal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sports are not for everybody, not only because of talent level, but because a certain mindset is to be
had to be successful at any sport. A commitment is made. Forty hours of practice a week, the average
amount of time spent practicing for football players, all for a one hour game, the average time of one
game of college football, takes dedication. That is not even counting the time spent icing, resting, and
studying the playbook or film, not to mention the school work to be kept up with for college and high
school students. Most athletes have become used to the grind and juggling three or four time
consuming activities all at one time while being successful at each. Waking up at the break of dawn,
following a schedule, and suffering consequences when a bad choice is made creates character and
discipline that is often needed for many little league, high school, and college athletes. The most
important non tangible thing sports teach anyone is how to get back up after falling, how to get
knocked down but get right back up and keep going, how to move on from failure and overcome it,
focusing on the next important part of life. These skills of determination and courage taught through
sports are essential for being successful in any part of life and are hard to come by anywhere

Guantanamo Bay Thesis
Introduction: Did you know, as American taxpayers, maintaining the prison at Guantánamo has costed
$4.8 billion since it had opened in 2002? Well this al back to The Global War on Terror under the Bush
administration that,. response to the 9/11 attacks, targeted middle eastern regions of the world;,
collecting men from left to right by heavily armed American soldiers. Unfortunately, some of them are
destined to pay for another man s crime by serving time in Guantanamo Bay. Guantanamo Bay,
located within a naval base in Cuba, became a facility purposed to hold alleged enemy combatants and
terrorists alike. Because of later documented injustices reported against detainees, it gained negative
spotlight by both citizens and world leaders. When Obama succeeded in presidency, closing the
facility became one of his priorities for a number of reasons.

The Bible and How Satan Came to Be
Introduction: I have heard that Satan has come from heaven but was never really sure. So for my
research paper I asked where Satan came from and how he was created. Answers for this question are
found in many places in the Bible. Satan was one of the highest angels until was overcome with pride.
He was thrown out, and hell was created. Hell was first for Satan but was then opened for everyone
when Adam and Eve sinned.
Bible section: There are many verses in the Bible that show how how Satan came to be. Some of them
are not straight ford but some give a good description. Most of the verses that describe where Satan
comes from are in the book of Revelation. In (Revelation 12:3) Satan appeared as a 7 headed dragon
that had a crown on every head. He became so jealous and full of pride that he threw a rebellion
against God. Isaiah 14 says I will raise my throne above the stars of God. (Isaiah 14 12 15 NIV). A
war broke out in Heaven, Michael and his angles fought Satan (Revelation 12:7). This next verse
proves that Satan is truly evil, It says Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to
the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour
her child the moment he was born. (Revelation 12:4 NIV) That clearly shows that he wants nothing
good for us and wants to destroy us. Hell was originally for Satan only, but in Genesis God gave us
the choice to live in eternally in heaven or go to hell. The

which creates false impressions and misleads a consumer acting reasonably, and trade puffing, which
is exaggerated praise of the product (e.g., Almost Home cookies are the moistest, chewiest, most

your line of reasoning, Betty, we shouldn t advertise parity products at all, since all brand advertising

yourself from the pack of imitators. And it helps a small, underdog brand like Great State get a leg up

Summary Of Michael Lewis Liar s Poker
Mortgage bonds. Government bonds. Interest rates. Savings and Loans. You re forgiven if the terms
send chills down your back, reminding you of that dreadfully boring finance course you took
freshman year of college. The terms have a remarkable ability to make readers put down whatever
they re reading in exchange for something more interesting (i.e., almost anything). It takes a talented
writer to tell a compelling tale about these colorless financial instruments. A humorous tale? Nigh
impossible.
Yet that is exactly what Michael Lewis accomplishes in his semi autobiographical book, Liar s Poker.
In fact, the tale he tells of his time at the Wall Street Investment Bank Salomon Brothers is every bit as
gripping and humorous as any great work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From holding bic lighters underneath other traders pants to emptying suitcases before businesses trips
and filling them with wet paper towels to convincing a trader that the SEC is investigating him for
stealing from the cafeteria, the traders display a talent for pranking that would impress even the most
sophomoric frat boy.
The constant flow of fascinating anecdotes combined with frequent humorous quips from Lewis make
the book hard to put down. In describing Henry Kaufman, the head of bond research at Salomon when
he arrived, Lewis writes that He was so often right that the markets made him famous if not
throughout the English speaking world then at least among the sort of people who read the Wall Street
Journal. Lewis employs that sardonic writing so effectively that the dry subject of mortgage bonds
becomes captivating.

The Red Candle In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
The great battle of books vs movies is never ending. A book provides insight of the characters feelings
while a movie needs to evoke emotions in a shorter time frame. The Joy Luck Club, written by Amy
Tan, was adapted into a film in 1993. Unlike the Harry Potter series Amy Tan cowrote the screenplay,
meaning she had the ultimate decision of what makes it in the movie. Comparing both was quite
interesting knowing that Amy Tan could ve kept The Red Candle story and kept a clean view of the

Nutrition for Sport
Introduction
An athlete needs to ensure that they consume enough fuel to complete activities undertaken. The
amount of energy required depends on many factors including size and weight of the athlete, level and
intensity of the training, and due to this the amount of energy required varies from person to person.
However if more energy is consumed than required, the excess is stored as fat and weight will
increase, on the other hand if insufficient energy is consumed the body calls upon its stores to meet the
demand and weight will be lost.
To consume a balanced diet we need to consume items from the macro and micro nutrient groups.
Macronutrients comprise of carbohydrates, lipids and protein. Carbohydrates are quickly accessible

Female Tennis Player
The athletes calorie requirements need to be worked out what is required every day before any
training is added in. To do this the same calculation was made as the female runner, except instead of
8.7 x kg it is 14.7 x kg and 496 is added instead of 829, this is because this athlete is in a different age
group. Again activity requirement is taken into consideration, at 450 calories an hour, and as exact
training figures are not available it has been estimated at 6 hours training a week, which then works
out as an extra 2700 calories a week. This figure is then divided by 7 to give the extra calories needed
each day. So this athlete needs a total of 3384 calories a day to maintain her current stature. Again the
daily allowance needs to be divided between the macronutrients. According to National Institute of
Nutrition (2007) this athlete needs CHO:Lipids:Protein at 60:25:15. Once again the calories are
converted into grams. See Appendix 1.
Using this information there was a deficit across the board, see Appendix 2.

Informative Speech About Ebola
Today I will be writing about Ebola and if it will become a worldwide pandemic.
To start off, I will briefly explain what Ebola is. Ebola (also known as Ebola Virus Disease or EVD) is
a severe virus that started in late 1996 and was first misdiagnosed as a new form of malaria. I can
understand why they diagnosed the patients with malaria, the early symptoms were similar, but the
main reason is that they never knew Ebola even existed. Soon after, 1st September to be more precise,
there was a large outbreak and there were approximately [1]280 deaths and only 38 confirmed
survivors. The Ebola virus can spread very easily even though it is not airborne, though it is
waterborne and can be passed on through close contact as well as STD s and through mother to child.
The area that has been most infected is in Africa because of the lack of facilities and healthcare staff
available in the area as well as poor training. Another reason is that the burial rituals include kissing
touching and close contact. This causes Ebola to spread faster since it can stay on a dead persons body
for up to six months
There are many symptoms for Ebola including the following;
[2] Fever
Severe headache
Joint and muscle aches
Chills
Weakness
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhoea (may be bloody)
Red eyes
Raised rash
Chest pain and cough
Stomach pain
Severe weight loss
Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices, such
as ears, nose, and rectum)

Insulation Essay

Review of Literature
Insulate to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or
leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main
topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of drinking
cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to
keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This
experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup used in the
experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are
generally used as insulators for many liquids.
Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The
air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel through the
air spaces. Insulation is a material or substance that is used to stop heat, electricity, or sound from
going into or out of something (Insulation, 2015, pg. 1). Insulation is commonly thought of in ... Show

Culture And Cultural Differences Between China And China
The country that i hope to one day teach in is China. throughout my research on the many cities within
the country it is clear that the need for a strong commitment to the development of cultural
understanding within the classroom context is in high demand and necessary. Every culture has its
values, morals customs and traditions and they should be respected as such. On the surface level,
cultural differences between westerners and the Chinese seem mostly visual. Food and eating habits
probably being the most popular when comparing the two, with food being such an important part of
our everyday life. To start, An obvious difference between the China and western countries about food
is the utensils used to eat with. In China people favor the use of chopsticks, while in the west a fork
and knife are preferred. the Chinese usually eat communally and share their dishes with others, while
westerners typically enjoy individual servings. the most common staple foods along with their
preparation techniques also differ between China and the West. In western dishes, fish dishes are
served absolutely free of bones. In Chinese meals, fish are typically sold whole and removing the
bones while eating is regarded as a normal part of the meal process. There is also the difference in
style of dress, with China being the more conservative culture. Of course this may slightly vary within
larger cities that today are more modernized, but within the history of the Chinese civilization,

`` Confessions Of A Workaholic `` By Wayne Oates
One in four workers can be classified as a workaholic nevertheless; it is still vastly underestimated in
the damages it can cause (Griffiths, 2011). Workaholism has been coined as the respectable addiction
and the hard working man s disease; however, workaholism is a deadly disease that affects the
workaholic, their family, friends, and even coworkers. The Japanese term for workaholism is karoshi
and is estimated to kill over 1,000 deaths a year (Williams, 2012). The definition of a workaholic
remains vague and unconstructive; however, the symptoms and manifestations can be quite clear.
Merriam Webster defines workaholic as a person who chooses to work a lot: a person who is always
working, thinking about work, etc. In 1971, Wayne E. Oates coined the term Workaholic in his novel,
Confessions of a Workaholic. Wayne Oates was an American psychologist and religious educator.
Oates asserts that working can become an addiction just as alcohol (Oates, 1971). A major contributor
to the problem is the belief that hard work leads to greater wealth (Williams, 2012). Workaholism is
considered by many to be a respectable addiction and a positive thing. These people lack
understanding into the true nature and dangers of this addiction. Numerous myths surround
workaholism including: workaholics are always working; no one ever died of hard work;
Workaholism only adversely affects the workaholic (Fassel, 1990). It is imperative that a distinction

I see weeks of blog writings flashing through my memory. From all of this, I now own and believe in
a firm and personal definition of what style is and what good writing entails. William Strunk and E.B.

What really matters when we consider the style of writing? What makes good writing good? Every

There must be guidelines. Strunk and White and Williams share those thoughts with their readers, and
while I do not agree with all of their rules, as a writer, I believe within these style books I have found
guidelines in which writers can fulfill their purpose. As a reader, I feel that if writers follow some of
the guidelines Strunk and White and Williams have to offer to the world, I can come away from a
piece of writing affected.
The next question would be: how is a reader affected? Well, a reader cannot be affected unless a piece
of writing is presented clearly. A piece of writing must be written in a way that any person can pick it
up, read it, and not only understand the point the author is trying to convey through her/his writing,
but be able to follow the flow of information. For that to take place, the information must be presented
in a clear manner. I believe this to be an important part of style; without it the style of a piece of
writing can be lost.
One of Strunk and White s principles of composition suggests that writers express coordinate ideas in
similar form. It goes on to explain that, ...expressions similar in content and function be outwardly
similar. The likeness of form enables the reader to recognize more readily the likeness of content and
function (26). By expressing similar ideas in the same or similar form, readers are able to better
understand how the ideas relate to each other

The History Of Howard Hughes Aircraft Company
Howard Hughes was a successful Hollywood movie producer when he founded the Hughes Aircraft
Company in 1932. He personally tested cutting edge aircraft of his own design and in 1937 broke the
transcontinental flight time record. In 1938, he flew around the world in a record three days, 19 hours,
and 14 minutes. Following the U.S. entrance into World War II in 1941, the U.S. government
commissioned the Hughes Aircraft Company to build a large flying boat capable of carrying men and
materials over long distances. Because of wartime restrictions on steel, Hughes decided to build his
aircraft out of wood laminated with plastic and covered with fabric, and they had a wingspan of 320
feet and was powered by eight giant propeller engines. Development of the Spruce Goose cost a
phenomenal $23 million and took so long that the war had ended by the time of its completion in
1946. The aircraft had many detractors, and Congress demanded that Hughes prove the plane
airworthy. On November 2, 1947, Hughes obliged, taking the prototype out into Long Beach Harbor,
CA for an unannounced flight test. Thousands of onlookers had come to watch the aircraft taxi on the
water and were surprised when Hughes lifted his wooden behemoth 70 feet above the water and flew

A Report On Traditional Neighbourhood Search Methods
Initial Population: We originally decide the size of the population, and then the method by which the
members for the population are chosen. The primary idea of the size of the population always forms a
trade off between the efficiency and the effectiveness of GA implementation. In general, it appears
that there should be some ideal value for a given length or size of the population, on the grounds that
too little a population would not permit adequate opportunity for exploring the search space
effectively, while too big a population would damage the efficiency of the approach that no solution
could be expected in an realistic amount of time limit [15]. Termination Condition: Traditional
neighbourhood search methods are simple in the sense that they terminate when a local optimum is
encountered. On the other hand, GAs are blind search stochastic optimization techniques that could in
principle run for endlessly, but could converge fast to the solution with right termination criteria set. In
practice, a termination criterion is mandatory to prevent the iterations get infinite; the common
practices are to set a limit on the number of fitness evaluations or the computation time consumed, or
to track the variability in the population and stop when this falls below a pre set boundary value. The
meaning of diversity in the latter case is not always apparent, and it could relate either to the genotype
or the phenotype, but the most effective way is through a measure of the

The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA
transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have
health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage,
raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s
largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a
dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the
impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such
projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget
Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million
people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade,
but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal
budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. In this
paper, I will discuss the impact of the ACA in more detail, and describe evidence that sheds light upon
the accuracy of the projections. I begin by reviewing in broad detail the structure of the ACA. The

Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant...
Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new and
unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of cycling
attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30 years ago,
issues regarding the environment tend to suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for a short time,
and then gradually fade from the center of public attention. He calls this process the issue attention
cycle, one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion. Even though this
article was written in the 1970 s, Downs theory contains crucial insight into what is currently
happening with public opinion about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an
immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is realizing
the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of solving
the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of
money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the population. This results in a
realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some extremely beneficial
aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of
cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would
also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some people, sacrificing these
advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to sacrifice at all.
Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage almost imperceptibly transforms into the
fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense public interest. Essentially, and as more and more people
realize the difficulties and time

Soren Chemical Case Study
1. Why is Soren Chemical struggling to sell Coracle? In particular, please discuss how the channel
structure affects the sales of Coracle.
Soren Chemical is new to developing a consumer brand (it partners with formulators to use private
label branding for its Kailan MW line). Therefore, they are relatively inexperienced with marketing
consumer oriented brands whereby they have to handle directly with wholesalers and also market to
retailers, pool service professionals and consumers. This inexperience might have caused
miscommunication between channels as seen when pool service professionals and specialty retailers
had made inquires about Coracle but only 30% recalled receiving the Coracle material. Also 70% of
them stated that Coracle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To calculate the annual EVC, we need to take reference value plus differentiation value. The reference
value is the cost of substitute, which is ClearBlu s annual cost of $56.25. The differentiation value
includes Coracle s increase in chemical savings. Coracle reduces the need for additional chlorine,
shock treatments and enzymes, thus reducing pool owners annual chemical cost by 20% to 30%
(average of 25%). ClearBlu reduces annual chemical cost by 15%, thus the increase in savings by
Coracle is 10% (25% 15%). The annual chemical cost (excluding clarifiers) is $300. Calculation of
Coracle s annual EVC: $56.25+ 0.1x $300= $86.25.
3. Should Soren Chemical adopt a push or a pull strategy? Why?
Coracle, being a new brand should first adopt a push strategy since there is low brand loyalty and low
brand awareness. This will generate exposure and encourage distributors to stock up on Coracle. Only
25% of consumers understand and use clarifiers regularly. This shows that there is low involvement in
purchasing decision and perhaps an impulse item as a residential clarifier. And thus a push strategy is
a good way to promote the product. However, since product benefits are not well understood by
consumers, Soren can also adopt a pull strategy in communicating the actual value of Coracle, and let
consumers know about the annual EVC rather than unit cost. It is hard to promote Coracle to the
distributors since they understand that low annual cost of Coracle comes

Leon Yacher Essay
When Leon Yacher was young, his father spent about five years traveling all over Peru. Through this,
Yacher was introduced to different areas and cultures and landscapes. He learned that there were
different places, that not every area was the same. Looking back, Dr. Yacher believes these early
travels to have planted seeds of curiosity and interest inside him. These seeds experienced a growth
spurt when he moved to the United States and attended the University of New Mexico. While there, he
took a geography class taught by Professor Richard Murphy that sparked his interest in geography and
changed his life. Today, Dr. Yacher is one of the most eclectic geographers, having traveled to the
cities of more than 150 countries. When he enters a city, he immediately begins to search for
commonalities and differences, what makes this city unique and how it is like every other city in the
world. Because he is not interested in the superficial, he stays away from any tourist attractions,
choosing to sleep in local boarding houses rather than hotels so as to build a relationship with the city.
He walks the streets untouched by wealthy visitors and talks to real people. By so doing, he is able to
see and know the real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

made significant strides away from totalitarian journalism, in which the government is the final word

these two schemas, Kyrgyzstan does not neatly fit under any of the labels representing the different
types of journalism. Instead, Kyrgyzstan, like Indonesia and Venezuela, is in a transitional phase,

Regular Savings Account
A regular savings account requires you to put money into it each month. In return from lending some
money to the bank for that month they will add interest into your account based upon how much
money you have in your account, the high amount you have the higher interest you will receive. A
money market deposit account is a type of savings account. This savings account has a slightly higher
interest rate each month. But the downside of owning one of these saving accounts is that you have to
put in a higher amount of money each month. So if you have more money to deposit it is better than a
regular savings account. An online only savings account is a savings account that you can only access

My Experience With My Dad
I grew up in the central part of San Antonio, a small little white house with paint chipping all over.
The neighborhood I lived in was of much lower class. Both of my parents worked a lot; my dad was in
the military so he was not around very often. My mom worked at Citibank with a somewhat regular
work schedule. Every morning she would drop me off at my grandma s, and I would stay with my
grandma between 8 and 6 every day. My grandma spoke mainly Spanish, but growing up my parents
kept my first language as English and never spoke to me in Spanish so it was very hard for me to
communicate with my grandma especially if she forgot to tell me what she was saying in English.
Over time I just really wanted to understand what she was saying so I would ask her to teach me
things in Spanish. Every day we would sit down over lunch and my grandma would write on a piece
of paper different words in Spanish and teach me how to communicate the basics with people who
only spoke Spanish. It helped a lot, I was able to understand what she would tell me and even
sometimes speak with her in Spanish. Every night my mom would read to me, the same book Love
You Forever. She would read it to me so much that even though I couldn t read yet I had it memorized
almost like I was reading it. My mom would always say that she wished her mom read to her every
night when she was younger, but she never did. Every weekend my mom was off from work, so every
Saturday morning she would make sure that we

Toys R Us Japan
Answer1: Is Japan a good market for Toys R Us? CAGE Framework Cultural: * Lavish spending on
children s toys and clothes to compensate for constant pressure to excel in school * Greater preference
to personal attention and guaranteed repair rather than low prices * But the younger generation owing
to a greater international exposure realized that they were paying greater prices for many consumer

experimenting with bolder ventures * Principle of loyalty to manufacturers was strong in wholesaling

In 1991, the entry of Toys R Us would displace more people from jobs than the opportunities it would
create. The displaced people also include old people above 60 for whom this is a safety net post
retirement. Japanese economy was in a state of virtual full employment with qualified male graduates
preferring local employers to foreign establishments. Yet it will give employment opportunities for
Japanese women
Conclusion: The entry of Toys R Us would shake the traditional Japanese toy business, however the
cracks appearing in the retail structure points towards the need for transformation in the Japanese
market. Hence Toys R Us potentially is a good prospect for the Japanese markets.
Answer3 Has Toys R Us chosen the best entry strategy for the Japanese market? Has it chosen the
right partner?
It has core competency in its industry and has been in the International Strategy for long time. So, next
opportunity would be for a Transnational Strategy following the incremental strategy where it should
be focusing upon. In order to have it the Integration and Responsiveness should be high. It has

Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia Essay
General Description
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is slow progressing or chronic , cancer of the blood and bone
marrow. CLL is the second most common leukemia in adults and one of the four primary types of
leukemia. Certain risk factors have been identified including age, race, sex, family history of blood
and bone marrow cancers and chemical exposure. Most people diagnosed with CLL are white males
over the age of 60. Occurrence increases with age and a marked increase after 60. Herbicides,
insecticides and Agent Orange used in the Vietnam War have shown to increase the risk of developing
CLL. There are approximately 15,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
Pathophysiology
The cause of CLL is unknown at this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The signs and symptoms are most likely caused by opportunistic infections due to the decreased white
blood cell count. Symptoms can include:
Painless swelling of the spleen or lymph nodes in neck, underarm, stomach or groin
Tiring easily
Shortness of breath
Pain/fullness between the ribs
Fever and infection
Unexplained weight loss
CLL is diagnosed with a physical exam, including a complete history, and blood bone marrow tests.
Many types of blood and bone marrow tests can be performed including:
Complete blood count Hematocrit, white blood cell count, platelet count and hemoglobin
concentration.
Cytogenic analysis Microscopic examination of lymphocytes to look for structural changes or changes
in number of chromosomes.
Immunophenotyping Microscopic examination to determine if CLL is from B or T cells.
Bone marrow aspiration biopsy Removal of bone marrow, blood and small piece of bone from the hip
or breastbone. A pathologist will then review for abnormal cells.
Treatment
It is extremely important to be treated by a hematologist or a Doctor experienced in treating CLL. Due
to slow progression, a patient in the early stages does not need immediate treatment and is usually
treated in a conservative manner. This will also help the patient avoid any treatment side effects.
About 1/3 of those diagnosed with CLL in the early stages will never need treatment. Treatment

  • 2. Short Essay On Hades I m finally venturing out of the Egyptian pantheon and moving north to explore the Greek Gods. Specifically, Hades. Why Hades? I think that a lot of people have a way of classifying Hades as Satan, the Devil, etc. I wanted to do more in depth research to learn about the god himself, away from all the preconceived notions. Hades was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea (king and queen of the Titans) and brother to Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. Cronus was told that one day his rule would be usurped by one of his children and felt the best way to avoid said coup was to swallow any and all children he sired. Along with Theseus, he entered the Underworld, managing to bypass all the traps to arrive at Hades palace. Hades, however, found out about the young man s plans; when the two arrived at Hades palace, Hades met them graciously. He invited them to have a seat after their long travels . . . and motioned to the Chair of Forgetfulness. It is usually known as the term Chicago School for its skyscraper architecture (Chicago School of Architecture 2). Not only did Jenney help develop the school, but other American architects as well like William Holabird, Louis Sullivan, Martin Roche, and others as well. There were two schools made during this period The First Chicago School of Architecture and The Second Chicago School of Architecture. The second school centered around the European Modernism. Three factors that contributed to the Chicago School of Architecture where the rapid need to build buildings to serve the industrial society, the development of construction using steel, and the strong desire to create a modern style. To begin with, after the fire of 1871, Chicago became a dense population, area and the value of the state lived up. By 1890, Chicago had more than one million people and had surpassed Philadelphia population and became second biggest city in the United States (Lowe 1). People started to travel over to Chicago and started to settle there. The more people traveling to Chicago meant that they would have to build more buildings both commercial and property. The problem was that Chicago stood in a deluge, and then it was hard to build homes using the techniques they knew. But now the group is self financed with racketeering and robbery of conquered territories. For instance the capture of the city of Mossoul gave a lot of money staying in its banks. The once prominent ice is now melting at a dramatic speed, which is affecting native people, wildlife, and plants. When the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf splintered, the freshwater lake that it surrounded drained into the ocean, along with the ecosystem that inhabited it. Polar bears, whales, walrus and seals are changing their feeding and migration patterns, making it harder for native people to hunt them (nrdc.org). Because of the flooding, entire villages will be uprooted order to avoid being swamped. Also, the Arctic coastlines are beginning to move as well. The melting ice caps are threatening the native peoples cultural identity and their very survival. Ice dependant animals, such as walruses and ring seals will be greatly affected by the melting ice caps (treehugger.com). They have fewer places to rest on, as well as fewer places to hunt. The amount of energy required depends on many factors including size and weight of the athlete, level and intensity of the training, and due to this the amount of energy required varies from person to person. However if more energy is consumed than required, the excess is stored as fat and weight will increase, on the other hand if insufficient energy is consumed the body calls upon its stores to meet the demand and weight will be lost. To consume a balanced diet we need to consume items from the macro and micro nutrient groups. Macronutrients comprise of carbohydrates, lipids and protein. Female Tennis Player The athletes calorie requirements need to be worked out what is required every day before any training is added in. To do this the same calculation was made as the female runner, except instead of 8.7 x kg it is 14.7 x kg and 496 is added instead of 829, this is because this athlete is in a different age group. Again activity requirement is taken into consideration, at 450 calories an hour, and as exact training figures are not available it has been estimated at 6 hours training a week, which then works out as an extra 2700 calories a week. This figure is then divided by 7 to give the extra calories needed each day. So this athlete needs a total of 3384 calories a day to maintain her current stature. Again the daily allowance needs to be divided between the macronutrients. According to National Institute of Nutrition (2007) this athlete needs CHO:Lipids:Protein at 60:25:15. • 32. Informative Speech About Ebola Today I will be writing about Ebola and if it will become a worldwide pandemic. To start off, I will briefly explain what Ebola is. Ebola (also known as Ebola Virus Disease or EVD) is a severe virus that started in late 1996 and was first misdiagnosed as a new form of malaria. I can understand why they diagnosed the patients with malaria, the early symptoms were similar, but the main reason is that they never knew Ebola even existed. Soon after, 1st September to be more precise, there was a large outbreak and there were approximately [1]280 deaths and only 38 confirmed survivors. The Ebola virus can spread very easily even though it is not airborne, though it is waterborne and can be passed on through close contact as well as STD s and through mother to child. The area that has been most infected is in Africa because of the lack of facilities and healthcare staff available in the area as well as poor training. Another reason is that the burial rituals include kissing touching and close contact. This causes Ebola to spread faster since it can stay on a dead persons body for up to six months There are many symptoms for Ebola including the following; [2] Fever Severe headache Joint and muscle aches Chills Weakness Nausea and vomiting Diarrhoea (may be bloody) Red eyes Raised rash Chest pain and cough Stomach pain Severe weight loss Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices, such as ears, nose, and rectum) Internal bleeding ... Insulation Essay Diana Flatsoussis Review of Literature Insulate to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of drinking cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup used in the experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are generally used as insulators for many liquids. Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel through the air spaces. Culture And Cultural Differences Between China And China The country that i hope to one day teach in is China. throughout my research on the many cities within the country it is clear that the need for a strong commitment to the development of cultural understanding within the classroom context is in high demand and necessary. Every culture has its values, morals customs and traditions and they should be respected as such. On the surface level, cultural differences between westerners and the Chinese seem mostly visual. Food and eating habits probably being the most popular when comparing the two, with food being such an important part of our everyday life. To start, An obvious difference between the China and western countries about food is the utensils used to eat with. In China people favor the use of chopsticks, while in the west a fork and knife are preferred. the Chinese usually eat communally and share their dishes with others, while westerners typically enjoy individual servings. the most common staple foods along with their preparation techniques also differ between China and the West. In western dishes, fish dishes are served absolutely free of bones. In Chinese meals, fish are typically sold whole and removing the bones while eating is regarded as a normal part of the meal process. There is also the difference in style of dress, with China being the more conservative culture. • 36. `` Confessions Of A Workaholic `` By Wayne Oates One in four workers can be classified as a workaholic nevertheless; it is still vastly underestimated in the damages it can cause (Griffiths, 2011). Workaholism has been coined as the respectable addiction and the hard working man s disease; however, workaholism is a deadly disease that affects the workaholic, their family, friends, and even coworkers. The Japanese term for workaholism is karoshi and is estimated to kill over 1,000 deaths a year (Williams, 2012). The definition of a workaholic remains vague and unconstructive; however, the symptoms and manifestations can be quite clear. Merriam Webster defines workaholic as a person who chooses to work a lot: a person who is always working, thinking about work, etc. In 1971, Wayne E. Oates coined the term Workaholic in his novel, Confessions of a Workaholic. Wayne Oates was an American psychologist and religious educator. Oates asserts that working can become an addiction just as alcohol (Oates, 1971). A major contributor to the problem is the belief that hard work leads to greater wealth (Williams, 2012). Workaholism is considered by many to be a respectable addiction and a positive thing. These people lack understanding into the true nature and dangers of this addiction. Numerous myths surround workaholism including: workaholics are always working; no one ever died of hard work; Workaholism only adversely affects the workaholic (Fassel, 1990). From all of this, I now own and believe in a firm and personal definition of what style is and what good writing entails. William Strunk and E.B. Strunk and White and Williams share those thoughts with their readers, and while I do not agree with all of their rules, as a writer, I believe within these style books I have found guidelines in which writers can fulfill their purpose. As a reader, I feel that if writers follow some of the guidelines Strunk and White and Williams have to offer to the world, I can come away from a piece of writing affected. The next question would be: how is a reader affected? Well, a reader cannot be affected unless a piece of writing is presented clearly. A piece of writing must be written in a way that any person can pick it up, read it, and not only understand the point the author is trying to convey through her/his writing, but be able to follow the flow of information. For that to take place, the information must be presented in a clear manner. I believe this to be an important part of style; without it the style of a piece of writing can be lost. One of Strunk and White s principles of composition suggests that writers express coordinate ideas in similar form. It goes on to explain that, ...expressions similar in content and function be outwardly similar. The likeness of form enables the reader to recognize more readily the likeness of content and function (26). By expressing similar ideas in the same or similar form, readers are able to better understand how the ideas relate to each other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He personally tested cutting edge aircraft of his own design and in 1937 broke the transcontinental flight time record. In 1938, he flew around the world in a record three days, 19 hours, and 14 minutes. Following the U.S. entrance into World War II in 1941, the U.S. government commissioned the Hughes Aircraft Company to build a large flying boat capable of carrying men and materials over long distances. Because of wartime restrictions on steel, Hughes decided to build his aircraft out of wood laminated with plastic and covered with fabric, and they had a wingspan of 320 feet and was powered by eight giant propeller engines. Development of the Spruce Goose cost a phenomenal $23 million and took so long that the war had ended by the time of its completion in 1946. The aircraft had many detractors, and Congress demanded that Hughes prove the plane airworthy. On November 2, 1947, Hughes obliged, taking the prototype out into Long Beach Harbor, CA for an unannounced flight test. • 39. A Report On Traditional Neighbourhood Search Methods Initial Population: We originally decide the size of the population, and then the method by which the members for the population are chosen. The primary idea of the size of the population always forms a trade off between the efficiency and the effectiveness of GA implementation. In general, it appears that there should be some ideal value for a given length or size of the population, on the grounds that too little a population would not permit adequate opportunity for exploring the search space effectively, while too big a population would damage the efficiency of the approach that no solution could be expected in an realistic amount of time limit [15]. Termination Condition: Traditional neighbourhood search methods are simple in the sense that they terminate when a local optimum is encountered. On the other hand, GAs are blind search stochastic optimization techniques that could in principle run for endlessly, but could converge fast to the solution with right termination criteria set. In practice, a termination criterion is mandatory to prevent the iterations get infinite; the common practices are to set a limit on the number of fitness evaluations or the computation time consumed, or to track the variability in the population and stop when this falls below a pre set boundary value. The meaning of diversity in the latter case is not always apparent, and it could relate either to the genotype or the phenotype, but the most effective way is through a measure of the ... The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage, raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade, but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30 years ago, issues regarding the environment tend to suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of public attention. He calls this process the issue attention cycle, one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion. The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the population. This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to sacrifice at all. Soren Chemical is new to developing a consumer brand (it partners with formulators to use private label branding for its Kailan MW line). Therefore, they are relatively inexperienced with marketing consumer oriented brands whereby they have to handle directly with wholesalers and also market to retailers, pool service professionals and consumers. The reference value is the cost of substitute, which is ClearBlu s annual cost of $56.25. The differentiation value includes Coracle s increase in chemical savings. Coracle reduces the need for additional chlorine, shock treatments and enzymes, thus reducing pool owners annual chemical cost by 20% to 30% (average of 25%). ClearBlu reduces annual chemical cost by 15%, thus the increase in savings by Coracle is 10% (25% 15%). The annual chemical cost (excluding clarifiers) is $300. Calculation of Coracle s annual EVC: $56.25+ 0.1x $300= $86.25. 3. Should Soren Chemical adopt a push or a pull strategy? Why? Coracle, being a new brand should first adopt a push strategy since there is low brand loyalty and low brand awareness. This will generate exposure and encourage distributors to stock up on Coracle. Only 25% of consumers understand and use clarifiers regularly. This shows that there is low involvement in purchasing decision and perhaps an impulse item as a residential clarifier. And thus a push strategy is a good way to promote the product. However, since product benefits are not well understood by consumers, Soren can also adopt a pull strategy in communicating the actual value of Coracle, and let consumers know about the annual EVC rather than unit cost.
