Genre Of Music Essay
Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in line
with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for.
As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The
overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard
average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and
therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able
to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a
significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats
when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart
rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis.
The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.
The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting
average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM.
Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps
while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical
music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous
studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who was completely different
from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects tested, except for one, were 18 22
male and female college students. The one subject who did not fit the mold of our other subjects was a
male, college professor. This subject s response to all of the music genres did not come close to any
other person s response. With every single genre of music that was played for this subject, their heart
rate lowered significantly. There are a

Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
The Civil Rights Movement of 1954 1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American
equality and can be categorized as a peaceful movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the
Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up
killed, President Lyndon B. Johnson saw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was an
American problem that we all needed to fix. On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson gave
We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African Americans and
make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids to this solution of
discrimination. By using literary devices, diction, sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This, in turn, aids his purpose as it brings reflection on familiar terms and people. In addition, he uses
diacope in Lines 22 ( There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no Northern
problem. ) where there is no ... problem is repeated. This only emphasizes his next line, which reads
There is only an American problem , which shows that there is no placing blame for the wrongdoings
of this nation. With this, he means to emphasize that we have all been a part of this problem, and we
shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses epistrophe in Lines 190 191 ( All Americans
must have the privileges of citizenship regardless of race. And they are going to have those privileges
of citizenship regardless of race ), where the phrase regardless of race is repeated. Using epistrophe
has the same effect as if the speaker repeats the same phrase for the people in the back . In other
words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes Johnson s point that race does not matter in citizenship
issues. Likewise, Lyndon B. Johnson uses diction to make his speech s purpose more impactful and
echo across the country. For example, Johnson avoids using the term U.S citizen and instead uses
American, or Americans. The word America has more powerful connotations than using the term
prior. Being a U.S citizen is of legal matters, whereas being an American refers to loving your country
and being patriotic, and it has nationalistic connotations, and in

The One Day of the Year Essay
How are the main characters in a play constructed to represent the text s underlying values and
attitudes?
Answer with reference to at least one stage drama that you have seen or studied.
The One Day Of The Year explores a family s relationships at the time of Anzac Day. It is the story of
a son questioning the validity of Anzac Day as a true commemoration of our soldiers, while his father
refuses to accept the changes in his son s attitudes, Alf s wife tries to anchor the family and Wacka, the
true Anzac, remembers his experiences in his own way.
In contrast, Alf and Dot, his parents, are obviously more traditional. The rest of the house is small, the
furniture is dowdy, and their kitchen is primitive.
It is then that the viewer is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hughie is clearly uncertain. His youth means that he has not fully developed self awareness and
understanding. Through much of the play he is hesitant in his actions and not sure what to do with
himself. Stage direction on page 24 says, He is nervous, on edge.
Alf clearly values Anzac Day and the drinking that accompanies it. On page 13 he says
I m a bloody Australian, mate, and it s because I m a bloody Australia that I m getting on the grog. It s
Anzac Day this week, that s my day, that s the old diggers day.
In comparison Hughie questions the true meaning of Anzac Day.
Do you know what you re even celebrating today? Do you? Do you even know what it all meant?
(page 81)
He is angrily defending his point of view and swings on his father. He sees Anzac Day as one big day
of drinking, and blames his father for his disillusionment.
No, Dad. You started it... when you dragged me by the hand through mobs of them like this just
exactly like this. That s all I ever saw on Anzac Day, every year, year after year, a screaming tribe of
great, stupid, drunken no hopers. (page 95)
But at the same time, Hughie still questions if these new opinions are right.
Oh, I don t know. Up there at uni it seems terrific to be outspoken and critical and everything. But... I
m sorry. I didn t mean to hurt you. (page 99)
The play clearly displays the eternal father son conflict and

Pros And Cons Of Mandatory Military Draft
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln was forced to begin drafting. Many people complained that it was
unconstitutional. This was the first mandatory military recruitment in U.S history. There has been two
more drafts since Lincoln had the first one in 1863. The argument most people have about drafting is,
if it is right? There are many pros and cons of having a draft, how the military would go about drafting
people, and how it will affect the families of those who are drafted. The first ever draft was held in the
Civil War. The South was the first to hold a draft in 1862. The men were required three years of
service and had to be between the ages of 18 and 35. Later on in the war, the age limit was raised
between the ages of 17 to 50. In many states such as Missouri and Iowa, the threat of drafting was
used to help speed up volunteering. However, in 1862 the Militia Act gave authority to the ... Show

It may also make us more apposing. Most countries would not want to go to war with an army of 300
million plus. That would help us get out of wars like we are in with smaller countries like Iraq and
Afghanistan. The draft would upgrade the quality of the U.S military recruitments (Military
Conscription, Recruiting and the Draft). It would give the military access to all the youth between the
ages of 20 and 25. Instead of having kids out of high school, who do not do anything and do not plan
on going to college, they can join the military for a few years and can help the U.S out. It will make
our military more youthful. More than a third of the new military recruitments fail to complete their
enlistments (Military Conscription, Recruiting and the Draft). Have more military personnel would
allow those who serve in the military to have shorter terms. If military had more people in it would
could allow those who enlist to have two year obligations compared to

The Reflection Of Wes Anderson Film
You can tell you are watching a Wes Anderson film instantly the minute everything takes the shape of
an animated painting, each shot is so meticulously designed if it were to be paused in the middle it
would assume the aesthetics form of an artwork. Like an illustration every, patch of color and screen
direction is chosen with the same amount of care put into the script itself. His work as a director is
entirely unique, each of his films has a look and feel that is unmistakably his and can be recognized
from the start. Symmetry and color are the two distinct characteristics every one associates with a Wes
Anderson film. But beyond mere aesthetics in detail and what some would call an obsessive OCD, his
themes deal with nostalgia and situations dealing with the troubled family dynamic. At the heart and
root of it all Anderson s personal history is perceived and ideology that is clearly influenced by his
childhood. In this article, I will address how through the uniquely storybook and whimsical comedic
tones of Wes Anderson films he is able to show the foils and limitations of estranged family relations
and address personal subject matters like loss and acceptance. Mise en scene quite literally means,
staging of the scene. It is a term adapted from the theatre and refers to everything the audience will
view and hear on stage, when applied to film it is everything the audience sees hears and experiences
while viewing it. Mise en scene can be categorized as the most

Chinese Culture In China
The Chinese culture is mainly located in China. Chinese people refer to China as the middle nation.
China has a land area of 3,691,502 square miles which makes China the third largest nation in the
world. Due to its large size, China borders thirteen other countries including North Korea, Russia,
Vietnam, and India; and since the country is so large there are diverse climates depending on where a
person is located (Culture of China, N.d). (ENTER) China is also home to many endangered animals
like the red crowned crane, giant panda, golden monkey, and the Yangtze Alligator (Culture of China,
N.d). (ENTER)
Since China is the third largest nation in the world, the country has a huge population. China is
actually the most populated nation in the world with the estimated population at 1,261,832,482. 92%
of the population are Han Chinese while the other 8% are Zhuang, Uyhgur, Hui, Yi, Tibetan, Miao,
Manchu, Mongol, Buyi, and Korean (Culture of China, n.d). (ENTER)
Many things that are common throughout multiple cultures and are even considered a necessity,
originated from the Chinese culture. Paper making was created in China in 105 A.C (Cree, 2010)
Woodblock printing was a common practice but was expensive and time consuming. This is all
changed when Bi Sheng invented movable type printing which made printing easier and quicker. Also,
toothbrushes originated in China in 1498. Chinese people made the first toothbrush with coarse hair

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting operation
productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment can also impact
negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive
impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative
aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints
in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects
of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based
on interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use of
published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes many
disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development, education, psychology,
and studies of social movements and organizations, among others. According to the definition of The
World Bank, empowerment is providing individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them
to make educated choices so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making.
Hopefully these decisions will not

Crime And Punishment During The Elizabethan Era
Crime and Punishment Draft The topic of crime has been booming in modern day news. Stories of
corrupt policemen and sexual misconduct allegations have flooded social media and everyday
conversation, but crime has always been a large aspect of society. However, modern day laws have
been overall consistent for a long period of time. During the Elizabethan era, many new crimes and
punishments were created by a growing development and knowledge. Accordingly, the evolution of
law grew dramatically during the Elizabethan age.
Laws originated from localism and were often controlled by ecclesiastical courts until the medieval
age ended. Laws were influenced heavily by the idea of localism, which commonly revolved around
the need for local goods, local government, and a local justice system. Often crime was defined by
ecclesiastical courts; crimes involving morality or violations of the church s conception of sin were
handled locally. However, after the introduction of Roman law, the power to define crime became a
duty of the ruler (Brackett, John 1999). The state had complete authority to define crimes, even crimes
of morality. The accusatorial method had been the popular choice until the introduction of the
inquisitorial method which was based on Roman law. However, it was said This form of prosecution
gave little power to judges. (Crime and Punishment 2004).
Crimes and punishments were often made to be equal for both commoners and aristocrats. Crimes
were divided by the

For the via Chicago, I will choose to use rail. Here s the comparison:
Via Chicago Costs ($)
Container charter 72,000
Load and block ($20/trk) 2,000
Rail rate at $90/trk 9,000
Wharf age 1,070
Loading and stowing ($80/trk) 8,000
Seaway tolls ($27/trk) 2,700
Unloading 4,200
Insurance ($105/trk) 10,500 Total 109,470
Via Baltimore Costs ($)
Load and block ($30/trk) 3,000
Rail rate at $448/trk 44,800
Handling @ Baltimore ($100/trk) 10,000
Ocean freight ($720/trk) 72,000
Insurance ($75/trk) 7,500 Total 137,300
1. Which of the two routing alternatives would you recommend? Why?
In terms of transportation costs only, the chartered vessel is cheaper. However, when we take into
account cash flows and the value of money, the Baltimore route becomes advantageous. Assume we
use the charter vessel. It should arrive on May 30th and HDT will be paid. However, if trucks are sent
two at a time via Baltimore, the middle pair (#25 and #26) should be finished on about April 16th and
arrive at Doha about May 8th, when they will be paid in other words, 22 days earlier than if they
arrived on May 30th on the chartered vessel. HDT pays 8% per year for its money so here is how to
calculate the savings for truck #25 or #26:
($172,000 times .08 times 22) divided by 365 = $829.37
Multiplying $829.37 times 50 yields $41,468.50. When added to the costs of using Chicago

The Social Of A Social Institution
Connect structure to your social issue/topic:
1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic?
My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of
gender are:
Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their
biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of
either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age
how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are
quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong.
Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions
believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is
believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to
protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high
roles of religion like being a priest.
Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. Here in
the United States women are working for better gender equality and more people are coming out about
who they are in the inside regardless of what gender norms they are breaking. For my third country I
picked Afghanistan, in this country women are

The Importance Of Becoming An Entrepreneur
Malcolm X once said, The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Your goals can be short
term or your goals can be for the long term, but it s how well you achieve your short term goals that
will define your how you will live tomorrow. As everyone who has or taken college know that it isn t
easy, you can t just blow by college, without studying for your classes or making it to your classes 10
15 minutes late, so to prevent these things from happening we set goals for ourselves such as, not to
procrastinate, go to all your classes, and get there 10 minutes early, surround yourself with smart
people and to learn from them, etc. But overall, having goals can prove to have a dramatically positive
change in your life because not only does it give you control of your future but it also gives you a
sense of purpose in your life.
Everyone has wants and needs but not many people make goals to get what they want or need. All the
goals we make for ourselves will connect to the kind of person we want to be in the future. One of my
goals is to become an Entrepreneur. But I can t just automatically become an entrepreneur instantly
with no background or experience, in order to get there I have to put in long hours of work and
commitment. I am a long way from becoming an Entrepreneur, but already I can tell that my journey
to becoming an Entrepreneur will not only lead me to a community of entrepreneurs but a ton of sub
communities of people with the same goals.

In North By Alfred Hitchcock Essay
Intro:
Bordwell and Thompson judge narrative to be a chain of events linked by cause and effect in time and
space as a filmmaker, Hitchcock s biggest ally in creating suspense and mystery is his ability to
manipulate point of view within a cause and effect narrative. The Master of Suspense manipulates his
audience s perspective while simultaneously employing narrative techniques to build tension and
expand the potential of his narrative. While both North by Northwest and Rope are fairly
straightforward they are both riddled with plot twists and suspense. Hitchcock s various narrative
strategies include: plotting, release of story information, character development and spectator
development. It s these elements combined with classic manipulations ... Show more content on

In both North by Northwest and Rope Alfred Hitchcock employs clear diegesis in order establish a
story. Despite both films having clear narrative lines, Hitchcock purposefully utilizes point of view
editing to enhance the suspense and intrigue of the plot. Janet Bergstrom states in North by Northwest
Hitchcock constructs a visual structure with classical narrative economy In North by Northwest Roger
Thornhill is the main agent of cause and effect; we are introduced to Roger s clear character traits as
we see events take place through his eyes. However it s the tonal and point of view shift that takes
place roughly one third through the film that stimulates our interest. During the train dinner scene
between Eve and Roger Hitchcock employs reversals a technique described by Linda J. Cowgill as
when something happens and the film suddenly veers off in the opposite direction Hitchcock is able to
use this technique so successfully by allowing the emotion of the scene to connect with the suspense
and consequences of the action. Halfway through the film, the crop duster scene takes place. It is here
we can see how through point of view and juxtaposition of opposites Hitchcock has constructed an
incredibly emotional and suspenseful narrative. Within this scene Hitchcock exclusively pans the
camera horizontally in order to keep the audience with the character s actions. ***** NEEED TO

G Methamphetamine On The Navajo Nation Essay
In the recent decades, advanced medical technology and research has made clear the dangers of illegal
and recreational drug use. However, although the ways in which substance abuse can negatively
impact an individual s mental and physical health are widely understood, the repercussions of drug use
at the community level are rarely discussed. Through sharing personal accounts and experiences of
individuals who have been directly involved with marijuana use in one aspect or another, the 2004

substance abuse within a community can pose for the population at large such as increased violence

Drugs like methamphetamine are extremely addictive and likewise can quickly put users into a state of
drug addiction characterized by uncontrollable and compulsive drug seeking and use (Estrada,
3/29/17). Thus, even though these individuals often do not have the intention of causing harm to
others, the lack of self control and rational thinking that accompanies drug use can negatively impact
the entire community in a powerful way. To be specific, Dr. Thomas Drouhard, a general surgeon in
Tuba City, discusses the increased violence associated with meth use among American Indians within
the film. He shares that out of all the patients he examines, every other trauma, every other stab
wound, and every other assault is related to meth (00:19:02 00:19:10). As his account suggests, the
impaired cognitive abilities and irritability of meth users can cause them to be quick to anger and lash
out violently bringing harm to shocking numbers of innocent people. This type of behavior decreases

International Student And High Tuition Essay
Studying with those from another background other than our own provides opportunities for greater
discovery, understanding, and cooperation. International students bring a variety of ideas and new
perspectives to the classroom, aiding in the educational process for all and are an important
component to many universities campus climate. Beyond the important cultural components they
bring to campus, International students are also a source of high tuition revenue for universities.
Students are often charged multiple times the rate of tuition that in state domestic students pay, such as
the University of Washington, where international students pay almost three times as much per year
(Lewin, 2012). The retention and graduation rates of all students are important to universities;
however, research on international student persistence has largely been missing in the literature
(Andrade 2009; Andrade and Evans 2009). Interestingly enough, the Institute of International
Education (IIE) and other government agencies do not report data on international student persistence
rates (Evans et al, 2009). The majority of universities report their student graduation and retention
rates on their websites, with many universities including their percentages by ethnic groups; however,
very few universities identify the specific rates for the international student population. According to
the IIE, the international student population in the United States comprises only about 3.5% of the

The descriptive sentence, But I miss the old life in the forest, the cool grass the mist rising off the river
at sunrise and the feel of the water sliding over my feathers as my sister and I drifted along the stream,
shows that leita misses her old life in the forest with her sister (1). Mr.Peters is so desperate for wife
and doesn t realise that Leita is miserable and misses her old life. Aiken uses this descriptive imagery
sentence to show how miserable Leita is, as Mr.Peters turns her into a human. Her feelings/emotions is
not the only way she utilizes craft to thrive this idea. The description in the short story shows Leite s
miserableness. Aiken explains how miserable Leita is, even though she is inlove with Mr.Peters. They
feel miserable Leita, what is it? he asked, very troubled. This is my sister, she answered. I can t bear
being separated from her. Now he understood that Leita was really a swan from the forest, and this
made him very sad because when a human being marries a bird it always leads to sorrow (2). These
quotes show the similarities Leita and Mr.Peters are feeling, and makes them even more miserable.
Although some may agree that this feelings/emotions for each other is simply to allow the reader to
feel what kind of experience both of them are going through. The feelings/emotions Leita has for her
sister shows that clearly she misses her sister and her old life. The author also describes Leita in a way
that makes the reader feel miserable for her. Aiken uses feelings/emotions, This is my sister, she
answered. I can t bear being separated from her. to show Leita as dispirit and miserable (2). She is
portrayed as a miserable wife who misses her old life. This shows the pain Leita is feeling as a result
of the adeptness in her life. Along with the descriptive sentences, these feelings/emotions create Aiken

I Am A Better Person Who Has Changed My Own Potential
At the beginning of this course, I kept calling it a therapy course. I was under the impression I was
going to come out of the class a better person who has taken the time to make changes and reflect.
However, as the course progressed I recognized that the class is what you put into it. The class wasn t
going to change me by doing these activities, but it was how these activities challenged me shift my
priorities and simply become more aware. The only change that was going to be made was if I saw the
need for it and I was committed. I think the course overall encouraged us, the students, to become
more self aware in many different aspects of our lives. In my case, I think I gained the most from the
constant discussion of the importance of reflection and consciousness. Although, we focused on
certain topics throughout the semester like time management, diet, and gender issues; I think the main
objective was to improve my connection with myself and to realize my own potential. I believe that
each person should gain something different by the end of the semester because the discussions and
activities all have a varying affects. I assume that the level of immersion from students differed
depending on the activity and how the student determined its importance. However, I would think that
everyone in class, including myself, is able to be more open, honest, and truthful with myself.
Additionally, I think this course emphasized the importance for students to always strive to

Analysis Of The Book The Wes Moore
When most people hear the name Wes Moore, they think of the Wes Moore that is a decorated veteran
and author, but when Wes Moore hears his name, he thinks about not himself, but the Wes Moore
serving life in prison for first degree felony murder. They both grew up in similar settings and both
had trouble with the police, but there lives are the complete opposite now. Most people wonder how
that could happen. Each Wes ended up on totally different paths as evidenced by actions and events
that took place in each of their lives. Throughout the following paragraphs, how each Wes s life slowly
became different will become clear. The meaning of the excerpt from Sir William Ernest Henley s
poem has a lot in common with Moore s writing, The chilling truth is that his story could have been
mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his (Moore 180). It has a lot in common because
they are both about sadness. Wes is saying that it is frightening that he could have ended up like
prisoner Wes and that it is saddening that prisoner Wes did not end up like him, while Henley is saying
that there it is fear since we do not know our future. These two pieces also talk about the future. Wes is
saying that he has a bright future in front of him while the other Wes is going to have a sad life in jail.
Henley is saying that by the time your life on Earth ends, you should not be in fear. He is also saying
that what punishments you get do not matter as long as you are in control and in

Bilbo Friendships
J. R. R. Tolkien once said, The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you
cannot forever fence it out. We can try to escape any sorts of adventure by clinging to our routine and
repetitious lives, yet it often arrives unexpectedly. For Bilbo Baggins, the prudent protagonist of
J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit, adventure simply arrives on his doorstep. Bilbo had always led a simple
life as a hobbit in the town of Hobbiton, but one day a wizard named Gandalf and thirteen dwarves
convinced him to embark on an adventure to reclaim the dwarves treasure from a nefarious dragon
named Smaug. As a somewhat dysfunctional group, the company faces and overcomes obstacles,
makes unforgettable friendships, and achieves the impossible. ... Show more content on

Before Bilbo s adventure begins, there is already conflict between him and the untidy and uncivilized
dwarves during the unexpected dinner party (13). After this conflict is resolved, with the help of
Gandalf and his encouraging words, and the company starts on their journey, they encounter conflict
with a groups of trolls. Again, Gandalf saves the company from their predicament, but it is only
moments later when the group faces more conflict. Additionally, throughout the entirety of the novel,
there is Character versus Character conflict present between Bilbo and Thorin. Their contrasting
personalities cause them to disagree on most decisions and to not develop faith in each other. And, it is
not until the very end of the novel, only moments before his death, that Thorin expresses, I wish to
part in friendship from you (262) allowing him and Bilbo to put all of their disputes behind them.
Bilbo and the corrupted hobbit Gollum also display Character versus Character conflict but on a much
more radical level. Initially, Gollum attempts to eat Bilbo but is then persuaded to engage in a riddle
contest in order to decide Bilbo s fate. The two exchange several riddles such as, voiceless it cries,
wingless it flutters, toothless bites, mouthless mutters [wind] (70) before Bilbo asks an unanswerable
question and loses Gollum s confidence. The conflict

The Afghanistan Government and Election Essays
I. Introduction: Since the fall of the Taliban and Al Qaida in 2001 the United States and the
International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) have been fighting the Al Qaida and the Taliban
insurgents throughout Afghanistan. After 10 years of conflicts, war and deadly clashes between
International community, Afghanistan government and the Taliban group today Afghanistan is
entering into a new phase by taking security responsibilities from the US and International forces. One
of the biggest problems in the history of Afghanistan will be the 2014 Withdrawal of US and
International arm forces. The US and ISAF will withdraw around 147000 troops by end of 2014. It

In addition, it is very important to have the assistance of International forces in order to have a free
and fair election. However, if the international forces will withdraw Afghanistan will not see a day
light . Since one of the most important issues in having a free and fair election is peace settlement and
without a peace settlement election will not be feasible. (DAWN.com). However, there are still
chances for Afghanistan to take action and sign the bilateral security agreement with United States and
according to majority of Afghan people it is an important step toward hastening the peace process for
holding a free and fair election of 2014.
One of the vital issues for post 2014 withdrawal of International forces from Afghanistan is Bilateral
Security Agreement (BSA) between Afghanistan and the United States. There are several advantages
for both Afghanistan and US to sign this agreement but for time being it is most important for
Afghanistan to get the most out of it and to ensure that through financial and military aids from US
provide a free and fair election and to bring stability, prosperity, harmony and peace in this country.
However, nowadays president Karzai is delaying it by calling consultative loya Jirga and that this pact
will not be signed or ratified until the 2014 election are held which is very problematic since
Afghanistan needs such agreement for now to stand still. (Exum). Having signed this agreement we

The Nature And Development Of False Memories
False memories attracted significant attention of psychologists during many decades. People usually
rely on the memories despite the fact that previous researches showed people could be unpredictably
inaccurate in the recollection of detailed facts (Wilson Ross, 2003).The subject of the false memories
and the aspects that lead to development of the false memory phenomena is very imperative topic to
study since almost every aspect of cognition such as problem solving, attention or perception relies on
memory to some extent. The quality of memory is also vital for some practical reasons, because many
important events influenced by reports from human witnesses. For instance, the procedure with
eyewitness testimonies in courts is still taking place although scientists have proven the power of
suggestive language can lead into memorising something that did not happen in reality (Loftus, 1975).
This point to the following question: Can we trust our memory? In order to response to this question,
this paper will evaluate the nature and development of false memories, its connection to the basic
memory processes, as well as practical impact of false memories. A collective review on all above
aspects will provide a comprehensive explanation of the question that this paper poses.
What is a false memory?
The phrase false memory could refer to an extensive range of small memory inaccuracies from
misremembered word lists to quite significant errors like incorrect details of dramatic life

Black Dynamite
Black Dynamite Movie and its Camp aspects
The Movie Black Dynamite, released in 2009, is an action comedy film and a parody of the 1970 s

Abstract
There is diversity of forms of government (Laundy, 1989) and different ways of classifying them and
as such, this paper sets out to discuss the budgetary powers of the legislature under different forms of
government, and the environment that informed the political structures. The paper discusses the

The expansion of budgetary control over the rest of the military and into non military areas during the
Eighteenth Century was slow and inconsistent. However, as Parliament became more accustomed to
allocating funds, some modern concepts and terminology began to develop. In 1733 Robert Walpole,
Whig Prime Minister under George I, began referring to the inauguration of the discussions on the
Crown s proposed expenditures as the opening of the budget. This convention continued, and
gradually by 1800 this usage was universally accepted in England.
In France a conscious effort to make government rational was initiated. Following the lead of the
Philosophers during the Age of Reason, and eager to replace the medieval traditions of the ancient
regime, the French introduced sweeping changes to their government and society during the reign of
Napoleon.
As with the English, except with different motives, Napoleon s first concern was with mastering the
military budget. To obtain better information on, and to control expenditures, he established a Corps
des Comptes. The general who headed this corps became,

Essay William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
Introduction
The three versions of the Merchant of Venice which I have watched are:
1. Channel 4 television version for their Schools Broadcasting Programmes
2. Trevor Nunn s version
3. National Theatre Company version directed by Jonathan Miller and starring Laurence Olivier as
Shylock
Act IV scene 1 is an intense scene in the play where we see many of the play s main themes such as
justice and mercy, money and status, revenge, loyalty, love and prejudice and tolerance.
Shakespeare presents a harsh character in Shylock the Jew, but the fact that he also gives him the

This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In this
piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various
versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock worthy
of Shakespeare s realism.
Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the 11th
century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this profession as
they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they soon became the
target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would have been familiar,
of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this myth to which
Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene. Shakespeare is original in
showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians surrounding him and it is through
this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his audience.
Analysis of Act IV scene 1
In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an inhuman
wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes Shylock s spirit
as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

Analysis Of The Movie Mr. Essay
Mr. Bones is a story of a boy s account of his father s change of personality after joining a minstrel
show. The boy narrates the big contrast in the family dynamics as the father takes on an alternative
persona. The sudden change of personality causes the boy to doubt how his father really is. Mr. Bones
advocates the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover, as there is more to a person than what
we see. It also represents how everyone has feelings, and the desire to be heard and treated properly.
The author uses the minstrel show s songs, the Jim Crow laws and its stereotypical character Jim
Crow to symbolize the changes the character go through.
Mr. Bones revolves around a quiet dysfunctional family where the narrator describes that The quiet
household is often more turbulent than the household of the tyrant or the drunkard (Page 2). The
mother has full control of the household while the father can only listen to her constant nagging but he
always has a smile on his face. One day, his father introduces himself as Mr. Bones which is the father
s alternate personality. Mr. Bones often jokes and taunts even to his wife that makes his wife feel
smaller and more scared each day. It is interesting as that the narrator points out that the jokes his
father says are more than jokes (Page 13). These jokes are the father s way of telling the truth. For
example, the yellow mustard, which he calls mouse turd (Page 13), is tasteless and cheap. He also
pokes fun at the

Why Did Lynching Occur Towards African Americans in American History?
When President Abraham Lincoln addressed the nation in his Gettysburg address he expressed the
bloodshed from the civil war would bring about a new birth of freedom for the American people and
nation. During the 19th century and in the aftermath of the civil war, white southerners engaged in a
ruthless and never ending cycle of violence against African Americans. The white southerners engaged
in violence over whether or not, after slavery African Americans would get full benefits of
citizenships. The terror that was inflicted by whites onto African Americans resulted in 4,743 of
African Americans being tortured, and lynched between the years of 1882 1968. Lynching has become
the most disturbing and lawless act in American history. Many scholars and leaders have debated over
the reasoning of such violent acts such as lynching during this time period. In the Ida B wells book
The Red Record she explains that lynching wasn t just about accused crimes of the African American
man, but the lynching of African American men in the community who were Black people who were
educated or business men. She concludes this by examining the different excuses the whites gave
regarding the reasoning behind the massive lynching throughout the year. The first excuse to the rest
of the world was to stamp out alleged race riots. Ida B. wells argues this couldn t have been the case
since the Negros couldn t have

Can Information Systems Provide Businesses with a...
Can information systems provide businesses with a competitive edge? Are such IT related competitive
advantages sustainable in the long run? Why or why not?
In recent years, many businesses have faced an increasingly uncertain future. As a result, there is an
economic imperative to gain advantage over their competitors (Bakos Treacy, 1986). A competitive
advantage is attained when a firm reaches its comparative efficiency or bargaining power (Bakos and
Treacy, 1986). There has been a need for the introduction of information systems into many businesses
due to human limitations, with bounded rationality concerning the memory, computation and

Here, they suggest core competence being a bundle of skills and technologies that enables a company
to provide a particular benefit to customers . This is the main reason for improving information
systems, as they optimally position a company within an existing market and develops foresight into
the whereabouts of tomorrow s market . Information systems should help the business to produce at a
lower cost level. This will enable it to differentiate from its competitors and to analyse other markets
and market sectors it may wish to enter into (Porter, 1980; Porter and Millar, 1985). Using information
systems can potentially raise barriers to entry for new firms who will not have the technology that an
established firm will or, or not have the capital to fund such a system. It can also create ways in which
clients will depend on your business, be able to offer new and idiosyncratic goods and services and
creating business opportunities (Bott et al., 1986, Porter and Millar, 1979).
Information systems providing competitive advantage can be displayed in the retail business. With
high street businesses, rent and wages must be paid. These companies will also have distribution
centres. With online retailers, they only have a distribution centre and due to the internet can have
customers worldwide. The reduced expenses means they can offer lower prices in a price driven
market. As a result, the demise of high street

and a young girl called Lolita. The story is filled with sexual overtones and motifs. Lolita quickly
attained a classic status. It has also been adapted several times into films and for the stage. When in
1962 the cinematic genius Stanley Kubrick moved Lolita to the silver screen, a question arose How
did they ever make a movie of Lolita ? That question would remain, having even made its way to
Lolita s movie posters.
The screenplay for the film was created, with a help of Nabokov himself. The cast was very well
thought of, Sue Lyon in the title role was very convincing, it was her first appearance on the silver
screen for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer. James Mason
starred in the role of Humbert Humbert was BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated for his appearance.
Despite the screenplay, and a promising cast, Stanley Kubrick s movie isn t one of his best, what could
go wrong? The answer to this question is simple: censorship. ... Show more content on

Kubrick quickly realized that making a movie, where the main character is a middle aged man who is
romantically interested in a teenage girl, in America in the early 60s would be extremely difficult. In
the book Lolita is 12 years old, Kubrick changed it for 14, but still producers were highly disapproval
and prevented the distribution of the movie. Director was forced to raise the age of the film Lolita to
18 years. There are many differences between Kubrick s film adaptation and Nabokov s novel, some
events were entirely wiped for example the sexual relationship between Lolita and Humbert was never
graphically showed on the screen. Most of the innuendos and references in the book were taken out

Nina Simone Contributions
The 1960s marked a period of social unrest and frustration over civil liberties for black Americans.
The dominant figures of the Civil Rights movement were often male political and social leaders such
as Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. However, during this period music became an inseparable
part of the Civil Rights movement. The civil rights and protest music had a remarkable influence on
the freedom movements by spreading the political and social messages rooted in the movement.
Consequently, musical artists also became dominant sources of leadership and influence. Nina Simone
led an influential and successful life as a musical artist, especially during the civil rights movement.
Her music fused genres of classical, soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz to create a completely unique,
uncategorizable style of music. Her contralto voice and distinguished musical style made her easily
recognizable and popular to a diverse, global audience during the 60s and 70s. Although Simone is
often omitted from historical recounts of the civil rights movement, her songs are incredibly
significant to the turbulent times as they promoted a sense of black pride and projected the frustration
and anger over the oppression of black Americans, especially black women. Simone had dreams of
becoming a classical pianist which were never reached. Despite these unobtained goals, Simone was
able to become an eminent musical artist that always carried herself with the utmost honesty,
dedication, and

Designing A Gantt Chart And Conduct A Feasibility Study Of...
The problem which had arose this year, we had to get into groups and decide what project to undergo
for this second year of the degree course. When groups were created we were sharing ideas of project
we would do and if they were possible to make or not. We could not have a small project because we
were in a group of 3 so we had to make sure the project was big enough to do for group of 3 members.
The purpose of the project was to build an electrical and electronic based project which involved
circuitry. To start with, we had to create a gantt chart and conduct a feasibility study to know if our
project would be a success or not, and gantt chart to give a rough estimation of how long the project
would take to build and test. We first started looking into what sensors we would use and how they
would be connected up to give us readings, so we had researched microcontrollers to use because that
is what all sensors would be connected upto. The most suitable firmware was the arduino in the end.
We had researched weather monitoring systems and had also gone to have a look at a few; we looked
at how everything would function and how the readings were given out. The circuitry carried out was
a good experience seeing as we were electrical and electronic students. The project was much harder
than we had anticipated, but throughout the year we had learnt many new skills and qualities,
including how to use a breadboard and test equipment it was also my first time using an

Analysis Of The Article Growing More Food With Less...
Introduction:
This essay is a review of the article Growing More Food with Less Water , written by Sandra Postel.
According the article, our global freshwater sources, including underground aquifers and rivers are
stressed beyond their ability to provide freshwater. Agriculture redesign is necessary with the two
primary goals being to cut water demands of mainstream agriculture and bring low cost irrigation to
poor farmers. Typical irrigation, crop furrow flooding is a main cause of wasted and polluted water.
This article discusses alternatives to typical irrigation. These alternatives have been tested onsite by
farers and surveyed.
Article Summary:
Severe water scarcity could be imminent in the not so distant future. Flooding crop furrows has been
an inexpensive irrigation method for over six thousand years. Though traditional, it is very wasteful.
An excessive amount of the water evaporates into he air, or soaks into the ground while the plants
receive very little. The excess water drains into rivers and underground aquifers. The water running
from the furrows is polluted with fertilizers. The constant use of flooding creates erosion,
waterlogging and salinization of the soil. 40 percent of the world s food grows on irrigated soil.
There are multiple reasons why the practice of flooding crop furrows continues. The practice of
flooding crop furrows produces two to three harvests per year with a higher crop yield. Sprinklers and
drop system technology have been much

  • 2. Genre Of Music Essay Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for. As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis. The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous studies that have been performed. • 3. Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis The Civil Rights Movement of 1954 1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American equality and can be categorized as a peaceful movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up killed, President Lyndon B. Johnson saw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was an American problem that we all needed to fix. On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson gave We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African Americans and make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids to this solution of discrimination. This only emphasizes his next line, which reads There is only an American problem , which shows that there is no placing blame for the wrongdoings of this nation. With this, he means to emphasize that we have all been a part of this problem, and we shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses epistrophe in Lines 190 191 ( All Americans must have the privileges of citizenship regardless of race. And they are going to have those privileges of citizenship regardless of race ), where the phrase regardless of race is repeated. Using epistrophe has the same effect as if the speaker repeats the same phrase for the people in the back . In other words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes Johnson s point that race does not matter in citizenship issues. Likewise, Lyndon B. Johnson uses diction to make his speech s purpose more impactful and echo across the country. For example, Johnson avoids using the term U.S citizen and instead uses American, or Americans. The word America has more powerful connotations than using the term prior. Being a U.S citizen is of legal matters, whereas being an American refers to loving your country and being patriotic, and it has nationalistic connotations, and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Answer with reference to at least one stage drama that you have seen or studied. The One Day Of The Year explores a family s relationships at the time of Anzac Day. It is the story of a son questioning the validity of Anzac Day as a true commemoration of our soldiers, while his father refuses to accept the changes in his son s attitudes, Alf s wife tries to anchor the family and Wacka, the true Anzac, remembers his experiences in his own way. This was the first mandatory military recruitment in U.S history. There has been two more drafts since Lincoln had the first one in 1863. The argument most people have about drafting is, if it is right? There are many pros and cons of having a draft, how the military would go about drafting people, and how it will affect the families of those who are drafted. • 11. Crime And Punishment During The Elizabethan Era Crime and Punishment Draft The topic of crime has been booming in modern day news. Stories of corrupt policemen and sexual misconduct allegations have flooded social media and everyday conversation, but crime has always been a large aspect of society. However, modern day laws have been overall consistent for a long period of time. During the Elizabethan era, many new crimes and punishments were created by a growing development and knowledge. Accordingly, the evolution of law grew dramatically during the Elizabethan age. Laws originated from localism and were often controlled by ecclesiastical courts until the medieval age ended. Laws were influenced heavily by the idea of localism, which commonly revolved around the need for local goods, local government, and a local justice system. Often crime was defined by ecclesiastical courts; crimes involving morality or violations of the church s conception of sin were handled locally. However, after the introduction of Roman law, the power to define crime became a duty of the ruler (Brackett, John 1999). The state had complete authority to define crimes, even crimes of morality. The accusatorial method had been the popular choice until the introduction of the inquisitorial method which was based on Roman law. However, it was said This form of prosecution gave little power to judges. (Crime and Punishment 2004). Crimes and punishments were often made to be equal for both commoners and aristocrats. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong. Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high roles of religion like being a priest. Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. As everyone who has or taken college know that it isn t easy, you can t just blow by college, without studying for your classes or making it to your classes 10 15 minutes late, so to prevent these things from happening we set goals for ourselves such as, not to procrastinate, go to all your classes, and get there 10 minutes early, surround yourself with smart people and to learn from them, etc. But overall, having goals can prove to have a dramatically positive change in your life because not only does it give you control of your future but it also gives you a sense of purpose in your life. They both grew up in similar settings and both had trouble with the police, but there lives are the complete opposite now. Most people wonder how that could happen. Each Wes ended up on totally different paths as evidenced by actions and events that took place in each of their lives. Throughout the following paragraphs, how each Wes s life slowly became different will become clear. The meaning of the excerpt from Sir William Ernest Henley s poem has a lot in common with Moore s writing, The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his (Moore 180). It has a lot in common because they are both about sadness. We can try to escape any sorts of adventure by clinging to our routine and repetitious lives, yet it often arrives unexpectedly. For Bilbo Baggins, the prudent protagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit, adventure simply arrives on his doorstep. Bilbo had always led a simple life as a hobbit in the town of Hobbiton, but one day a wizard named Gandalf and thirteen dwarves convinced him to embark on an adventure to reclaim the dwarves treasure from a nefarious dragon named Smaug. Bilbo and the corrupted hobbit Gollum also display Character versus Character conflict but on a much more radical level. This would suggest that Shakespeare is using Shylock as more than a symbol of Jewishness . In this piece of coursework I will be examining mainly how sympathetic or unsympathetic the various versions seem to be and how each Director has succeeded in making the character of Shylock worthy of Shakespeare s realism. Jews were traditionally viewed as outsiders and were not citizens. Christians as far back as the 11th century could not lend money without interest and many Jews earned a living from this profession as they could not join the artisan guilds. As they became their own debt collectors they soon became the target of resentment. A myth was born; with which Shakespeare s audience would have been familiar, of ritual murder or blood libel that Jews would kill adult Christians. It is to this myth to which Shakespeare seems to allude in the pound of flesh incident in this scene. Shakespeare is original in showing us the extent to which Shylock is oppressed by Christians surrounding him and it is through this that Shakespeare succeeds in drawing out sympathy from his audience. Analysis of Act IV scene 1 In the text of Act IV scene 1 before we meet Shylock he is described as a stony adversary, an inhuman wretch, incapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy . Antonio describes Shylock s spirit as being full of tyranny and rage . When Shylock enters

The boy narrates the big contrast in the family dynamics as the father takes on an alternative persona. The sudden change of personality causes the boy to doubt how his father really is. Mr. Bones advocates the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover, as there is more to a person than what we see. The author uses the minstrel show s songs, the Jim Crow laws and its stereotypical character Jim Crow to symbolize the changes the character go through. The dominant figures of the Civil Rights movement were often male political and social leaders such as Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. However, during this period music became an inseparable part of the Civil Rights movement. The civil rights and protest music had a remarkable influence on the freedom movements by spreading the political and social messages rooted in the movement. Her contralto voice and distinguished musical style made her easily recognizable and popular to a diverse, global audience during the 60s and 70s.
