Enzymes Essays
Enzymes Enzymes are complex proteins that carry out essentially every chemical reaction in the
human body. Enzymes function as biological catalyst, regulating the rate at which chemical
reactions proceed without themselves being altered in the process.
In this particular experiment we recognized benzoquinone and examined two numbers of factors to
determine their effects on enzyme action. The factors were temperature and specificity (how
discriminating the enzyme is in catalyzing different potential substrates). The enzyme that we
examined was catechol oxidase also known as tyrosinase.

DISCUSSION
1. We know that the substrates of catechol oxidase are catechol and oxygen. The substrates react
with one another within the active site of the enzyme. The products formed by this reaction are
benzoquinone and water. In this exercise we mixed the ingredients, stirred them, and incubate them
at 40В°C. We formed in tube 2a the product benzoquinone, observed its color change, and
established a color intensity scale.
2. In our second exercise we determined the ability of the enzyme cathecol oxidase to catalyze the
oxidation of two different but structurally similar substrates: cathecol and hydroquinone. Examining
their chemical structure we noticed that both are ring structures with two hydroxyl groups attached.
The question was if the enzyme could also convert it to benzoquinone. We observed how
discriminating cathecol oxidise is for particular substrates by comparing the color intensity of the
solutions in each test tubes with the standards produced in the first section (Table 1). We recorded
them in Table 2.
After 10 min we recorded the color intensity in Table 3. Our conclusion was that cathecol is stronger
enzyme than hydroquinone and that the enzyme is simply too specific to interact with the similar
but not identical molecule.

What Makes Art Art?
Art is an object or piece of work that brings one pleasure. Art is also something you see or feel
and you cannot even begin to describe the ways you like it or how it makes you feel. Art is
something that portrays beauty and happiness. Art lets you see the world through another person s
perspective. Most art seems to tell a story about where a person has been and the things they have
encountered along the way. It lets you connect with the artist and see things through their eyes. Art
is a way of expressing one s self without words. When I think of art, I think of paintings, portraits,

The scene has two snowmen at the entrance to the covered bridge. It fills your heart with warmth
and holiday spirit just to look at it.
Portraits to me are art in a different sense. Some of my favorite portraits are by Martin Waugh. It is
what he calls Liquid Sculpture. He uses high speed photography to capture drops of liquid as the
splash into lakes and other bodies of water. To me there is just something so soothing about his
work. It is amazing how a tiny drop of liquid can create such a beautiful work of art. His work
impresses me, because I never really thought of liquid as art before I saw one of his photos.
The formal qualities of art work are somewhat important. I like paintings that flow smoothly with
very fine brush strokes. I think some of the most beautiful art work is produced with a
combination of canvas and oil paints. I like portraits that capture images I normally could not see
otherwise. Portraits that capture the colors you can see when light reflects on a ripple of water
amaze me. I do not know a great deal about art, but art seems to be much more opinion than

Eleanor s Role In The Manchurian Candidate
Societal importance plays a very important role in The Manchurian Candidate, as how important
you appear is an indication of your role in society. After showing Raymond s character the scene
abruptly cuts to a long reverse tracking shot of Eleanor running towards the jet dragging her
husband Johnny behind her. By doing a longer tracking shot the camera is able to capture the
entirety of Eleanor s journey showing how she maintains control and guidance over her husband the
entire time. The higher angle of the shot places Eleanor on higher ground than her husband despite
her physically smaller stature. The angle of the shot is done at a straight angle focusing on the pair
though primarily Eleanor, exemplifying her as the more important of the two characters. The
difference in size and importance makes it appear as though Eleanor s powerful personality is what
causes Johnny to shrink. By presenting Eleanor as more important and powerful than her husband,

The only other woman in the scene is a reporter whom through the use of a tracking shot is shown
to be physically forcing herself to the front of the lines. This woman is shown to be a powerful
character through the close ups of her face which display the amount of determination she holds
to reach her destination. By being the only reporter to be shown so close, this indicates a certain
amount of importance. Eleanor and this woman are shown within the scenes to be powerful
people. These women are willing to do what it takes to appear powerful but regardless of the
power they hold they are only able to gain these powers by serving the men. Eleanor serves as the
controller of Johnny s campaign and this woman serves to further Johnny s campaign as well
