Tip of the tongue States Metacognitive Awareness Melinda Ortiz Florida International University
Word Count: 913 Have you ever had a feeling of forgetting a word or name you desperately want
to say but can not quite get your thought wrapped around the actual word? This phenomenon is
called tip of the tongue, or TOT. As stated in the text, TOT describes your subjunctive experience
of knowing a target word in which you are searching, but cannot recall what the subjunctive word
is at that very moment (Matlin, 2014). Individuals whom experience a TOT moment can recall
several phonological features of the target word such as a first letter, syllables, or other words that
are similar, although the whole phonology is not available (Brown ... Show more content on

Mentally he knew the names that were on each of the pictures but could not actually get the
word out. He was then asked to try and indicate a phonological feature of the word, or another
word that was similar to the target word, but he was unable to provide any information
phonologically that was associated to the target word. The experiment preformed on Dante in
this article supports the two stage model of lexical production regarding the lexical retrieval
failure of words (Badecker at. El). In conclusion, the tip of the tongue phenomenon is an
experience that happens to everyone sometime during his or her life. Trying to recall a word can
be frustrating, but with the help of phonological indicators, word retrieval can be possible. Our
lexicon, or word bank is filled with tens of thousands of words that we learn over time, so
difficulty trying to retrieve the right word from our bank advocates that there are so many
words that could fit one category and the one we are trying to retrieve is at the tip of our tongue.
The tip of the tongue phenomenon is associated with lexical retrieval failure because it is an
event where a word could not be recalled to finish a thought. The study by Badecker et. al (2011),
supports the idea of lexical retrieval failure in that individuals who have trouble recalling words
have an idea of what they want to say but cannot retrieve the word. References Biedermann, B.,

The Battle Of The Pacific War
The date is June 4, 1942 and raging in the blue Pacific Ocean around a small atoll named
Midway, a battle is being fought for survival and complete victory. Late in the day on June the
4th, United States Navy helldivers scream down from the heavens to rain hell upon the Japanese
fleet carriers below. Within minutes, three of the Imperial Navy s great carriers are sent to the
bottom of the Pacific in great fireballs. The massive destruction was wrought by the well known
Douglas SBD Dauntlessdive bomber of the Second World War. The slow but deadly SBD
Dauntless served the United StatesNavy well for most of the Pacific War and was eventually
replaced by the newer and improved SB2C Helldiveror simply the beast . These two planes share...

Within the cowling, there were two forward firing .50 caliber machine guns for the pilot. In the
rear seat the radioman gunner was equipped with two rearward facing .30 caliber machine guns
nicknamed the stinger by the gunners. In 1943, the Navy slowly started to replace its aging
Dauntless with the newer Curtiss SB2C Helldiver. Despite the United States Navy replacing the
old Dauntless with the Helldiver in 1943, the Dauntless continued to serve proudly with the
United States Marine Corps for the rest of the war. The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was first
introduced into combat with the Unites States Navy in November 1943. However, the design
was first thought up in May of 1939 to replace the obsolete SB2U Vindicator and the old but
reliable SBD Dauntless dive bomber. When the first prototype models came off the production
lines, there were several major problems with the design, which delayed its entry into official
service with the United States Navy. The Curtiss Helldiver design was a modest step up from
the older SBD Dauntless. The basic principle of the dive bomber did not change with the
introduction of the Helldiver. The SB2C was equipped with dive flaps, but on the first models the
flaps were solid and caused buffeting when going into the high g dives. This was later changed to
perforated dive brakes that improved the diving performance of the aircraft. Just like the SBD
Dauntless, the Helldiver was crewed by two

E.Issues and delays related to vendors. RMS continues to see delays relating to Property
Preservation (PPI) in terms of obtaining bids and coordinating other efforts related to the property
preservation. In a recent conversation with Altisource and Ocwen regarding bid approval,
Altisource indicated there are significant delays in getting Ocwen to approve bids. During the call,
Altisource aired some dirty laundry in that Altisource is pushing back and that maybe the problem
relates to the thousands of bid submissions that Altisource has submitted to Ocwen for expense
approval that Ocwen does not ever review or approve.

asset has 355 days in REO and 252 days in eviction.
Asset (103369260) in New York has the warrant stayed to 10/11/17. A lockout date is pending
from the Sheriff. This asset has 281 days in REO and 227 days in eviction.
Asset (103424313) is in New York moved to litigation from eviction. There were significant
delays in the eviction due to an attorney error that caused the eviction to be restarted. Initially,
Altisource indicated this moved to litigation due to a tenant issue (an elderly tenant that required
Protective Services involvement). However, there are 2 OTSC motions and it appears the former
borrower may be contesting the foreclosure sale. A hearing on both motions was held on May 16,
2016 and per Altisource this is still pending a ruling from the judge. A new concern is that Ocwen
recently reported that as part of a Cost Improvement Initiative at Ocwen, they have been
transferring a bulk of litigated files back to Default counsel to handle. RMS

Minimalism, Maya Lin and Vietnam Memorial Essay
Minimalism, Maya Lin and Vietnam Memorial Discussion
Minimal art is characterized by its simplicity in both form and content, where personal expression is
removed in order to achieve this. The intention of minimalist artists is to allow the audience to view
a composition more intensely because the distractions of theme etc. have been removed .
Minimalism can be detected as early as the 18th century where the artist Goethe constructed an
Alatar of Good Fortune that consisted of a stone sphere and a cube. In addition, in the 1920 s artists
such as Malevich and Duchamp created works that suggested at minimalist intentions. The
Minimalist movement is similar to Conceptual Art in that the outcome is used to express a theory.

The video you watch before boarding the boats to take you to the memorial really puts that day into
perspective.
3) War memorial is a commemorative object, something intended to remind us of the people who
have served and died in and because of war. People may argue over which is the best form for a
war memorial, and whether war memorials should serve the further purpose of contributing to the
prevention of future wars. They may debate a particular memorial s artistic merit, its cost or its
location. However, common to all war memorials remains the intention that they serve as a
reminder to us of those we have lost to war.
4) I think Yad Vashem is the most effective and touching memorial. The displays are moving and
empowering. The Avenue of the Righteous reminds the world that there is always a faithful
remnant of good people and that because there were so few, we need to do more to vouch safe the
world. The educational programs and sites are rich with meaning and designed to give focus and
inspire healthy memory and renewed commitment to creating a just world.
5) The main problem is there is lack of American Symbols like flag, red amp; white colors, and
flowers. The memorial only focuses on people who died but I think this should be the purpose of a
memorial not patriotism or nationalistic ideas. (Check: http://www.usvetdsp.com

The Economic Health Of The World Is Not Dependent On Just One
The economic health of the world is not dependent on just one thing . There is no single variable
that can be narrowed down that is responsible for the ups and downs that we as a global
economy experience in any given day, month, or year. Instead, the health of the global economy
is heavily reliant on the amount of effort that is put into keeping and maintaining it. How is this
done? By making sure that we are all on the same page and working toward a similar goal. One of
the bigger problems that the world is facing right now, however, is that each individual country s
goals might not necessarily line up the way others might want them to. What would be a good and
successful plan for the United Statesmight not necessarily be beneficial... Show more content on

However, in terms of the country composition for the slowed growth rate, the revisions are
largely accounted for by the Middle East, the United States, and Brazil: the Middle East, where
prospects are hurt by lower oil prices; the United States, where growth momentum is now
expected to hold steady rather than gather further steam; and Brazil, where the recession caused
by political uncertainty amongst continued fallout from the Petrobras investigation is proving to
be deeper and more extensive than previously expected. All these events pave the way down one
of two roads the first being down a road of global economic prosperity, the second being down a
road of global economic loss. So how exactly do the events happening in Brazil have such huge
impacts on global economic welfare? Brazil s economy has been suffering for quite some time
now. The country, part of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) grouping, was supposed to
bring in a new wave of economic prosperity through abounding growth rates through the coming
years. It was successful for a while when it experienced impressive growth rates on its
commodities and energy exports; however, once China s economy started to slow down, Brazil s

Survey Of Security On Internet Of Things ( Iot ) Essay
Survey of Security in Internet Of Things(IoT)
Jacquelyn Rapose
School of Computing
Clemson University
Clemson, USA jrapose@g.clemson.edu Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that
has transformed our daily lives because of its distributed and ubiquitous nature. Security and
privacy issues exist with the use of the IoT and must be addressed.
In this paper, I discuss some of the security challenges that the IoT architecture has to address. I also
compare the challenges that were inherited from the technologies related to the internet and those
that appear in IoT from present networks.
Keywords IoT, security, solution.
I.INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that connects physical devices/objects to the internet and
not just computer devices, making it possible for a user to have remote access or control over that
object. IoT has the following three categories of objects
1.General objects having communication or processing capabilities embedded in them, for e.g.
smartphones.
2.Sensing and actuating objects that collect information about their environment and manipulate it
through remote access.
3.Data capturing and Data carrying objects that use technologies like NFC to communicate. [1]
The ubiquitous nature of the Internet of Things provides many benefits, however, the security and
privacy problems related with it has to be tackled. The distributed nature of technologies that IoT
relies on is prone to many security and privacy

Theme Of Love In The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote
In Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra s classic novel, The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote is a
wonderful tale about a man who abandons his normal life to pursue life as a knight. The characters
in the novel such as Dulcinea, his love, Marcela, Maritornes and Sancho Panza his squire happens
to play a great and important role in the novel when exampling the theme of love. The themes of
love, care, infatuation and loyalty are greatly expressed throughout the novel. Throughout the novel,
Cervantes is able to examine how one can differentiate true love from false and infatuated love.
The protagonist, Don Quixote s obsessive reading of books of chivalry plays a major role in
defining his character; his inspiration for his travels as a knight errant comes from the literature
about chivalry that he reads, the literature that causes him to lose his mind and go mad. Everything
that he usually experiences in his journey, first happened in the books that inspired his travels. The
character, Dulcinea s role as Quixote s lady love becomes equivalent with the position a king might
hold in a true and honorable knight s life.
Many heroes like Don Quixote have experienced many episodes dealing with the feeling of love.
His unconditional love toward Aldonzo Lorenzo is seen to be a motivation for his survival.
Aldonzo Lorenzo is a good looking peasant girl in a nearby village. Quixote shows his first sign of
love when he gives Aldonzo Lorenzo a nickname called Dulcinea del Toboso in which he got it

In 1978, the Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and the Israeli Prime Minister Menachem
Begin signed the Camp David Accords. The signing of the accords was followed by a formal
peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in March of 1979. Both the Israeli and Egyptian took
significant risks and while many parties seemed to favor the peace deal, there were still segments
of the society which either were skeptical or disapproved. Most notably, a group of Arab leaders
known as the Steadfastness Front attempted to oppose the deal and considered Sadat s actions as
traitorous. (Central Intelligence Agency) Sadat was also met with strong movements against him
following the announcement of the deal from his own people, and he was assassinated in 1981.

The history of modern Egypt begins with the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the interference of
the French and British in 1798. Following the British claim of South Africa, a move designed to
stop French access to East Asia, Napoleon was directed to take control of Egypt with the intention
of building a canal to circumvent British South Africa. While the French conquest of Egypt was
unsuccessful, it did result in Muhammad Ali s assignment by the Ottoman Sultan to the region. Ali
established himself and over the course of the early 1800s managed to carve out a significant
standing in Egypt and implemented many reforms that helped to push Egypt ahead of much of the
Ottoman Empire as the Suez Canal brought money and western influence into the region. By 1882,
the British had taken control of Egypt from the Ottomans, with their focus on protecting the canal.
However, rising Arab nationalism prompted the British to grant independence in 1922 establishing
the Kingdom of Egypt which existed until

Janis Joplin Influence
Everywhere you go and everyone you see is somehow influenced by some type of music. Maybe
it s some kind of childhood learned adaption of what type of music influences them, or maybe
the way a musician preforms make them feel something. One artist in particular most definitely
made an impact on people and caused an uproar in the late sixties. This woman s name was Janis
Joplin. Born on January 19, 1943, Janis Joplin would begin her short, but memorable life in Port
Arthur, Texas. As most do, Janis developed a love for music when she was the youngest she
could remember. Her career really didn t take off until she joined the band, Big Brother and the
Holding Company in 1966. ( Janis Joplin ) Only two years after joining the band, she would get
into an altercation after their album together released, and then leave the band to pursue more. In
her life she would have went to a few places for education. She started out at Lamar State College

Between her shocking musical choice and unbreakable determination, she would be a model for
all women who wished to excel in the male dominant world of rock and roll. Despite the
intimidations of this standard, Janis feared nothing and took full force. In fact, it may have
pushed her to have more desire to succeed. This was very influential to young women
everywhere. Underneath this carefree, unfearful life, Janis struggled with insecurities and unfair
bullying. She dealt with these situations by partying, just as hard as the men. ( Final 24, Janis
Joplin ) She also was driven to a strong alcohol addiction. This is what is believed to what girls
related to Janis with the most: her deep, dark secrets and issues. Again, her peculiar interest in
preforming rock and roll music made her so special, and certainly memorable. Janis Joplin s

What Is Okonkwo s Role In Igbo Society
Since the civilization of the African continent the natives were seen as uncivilized and wild.
Achebe throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo
village in Nigeria during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main
character Okonkwo and his prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe
uses the abstract concept of the patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize
the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates
the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo
gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule his women...he was not really a man (Achebe
53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men in Ibo society hold the power over their
families and if they can not control their family that they are not really a man. Okonkwo
demonstrates the power he holds over his wife and children many times, often going too far. For
instance, during the Week of Peace Okonkwo beats his wife Ojiugo when she went out to a friend s
house without notice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achebe explains that, the art of conversation is regarded very highly, (Achebe 7) among the Ibo.
Because the Ibo people care for how their conversations are carried out, one would guess that
they are educated and knowledgeable enough to be able to do so. In some ways one might
consider them to be able to have even more intricate conversations then we do today. When the
Europeans arrive in Umuofia they do not quite understand the Ibo people. The District
Commissioner even complains of, [the Ibo people s] love of superfluous words (Achebe 204).
The words that Ibo people use in conversation is even baffling to the Europeans. This can make
one say that in some ways the Ibo people are more advanced than the

Roman Spectacles
Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based
upon what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii.
Taking this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really
happened in Ancient Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I
should not just aimlessly believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly
lie about a lot of things and are inaccurate, yet because they are older or have a mass platform what
they say becomes the truth . One of the biggest misconceptions I learned from this class that I

How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead
me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at
anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the
reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial
combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things
like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything
shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because
Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous
images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the
gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did
not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore
helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the
movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for
entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore
it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my
perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include
gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and
this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as

Final Maturation Stage Research Paper
final maturation stage, the collagen is remodeled over time. When the body is inflicted with a
penetrating wound, vessels and tissue fibers are ripped and broken. The area is then filled with
leaking blood from the surrounding vessels and the outermost blood flow begins to form a scab.
The surrounding vessels at that time constrict to minimize the bloodleakage in a process known as
vasoconstriction. The first step of the body is to clot the blood and achieve hemostasis, or blood
clotting to impede blood leakage. The blood also coagulates, forming into a gel like substance from
its liquid state. The area of damage undergoes the coagulationcascade in which a fibrin clot is made.
Blood platelets begin to release inflammatory factors and express glycoproteins on the cell
membranes, a sticky like protein, in order to aggregate. The area then forms a fibrin matrix via
fibrin and fibronectin fibers, which provide the scaffold for incoming cells. this fibrin clot plays a
crucial role in clotting the surrounding area as well as trapping essential proteins and cells. (https:/

The growth factors increase the rate of cell division of cells in the surrounding areas. Inflammatory
chemicals such as serotonin and histamine cause the blood vessels in the surrounding area to dilate

variety of control mechanisms tightly regulate the growth factors from going out of hand and

Stereotypes And Conpects Of Cinderella In The Movie...
Fairy tales can be interesting but do we really know the message behind them ? Cinderella is
about a girl who is trying to achieve her dreams but she has a step mother that is greedy and
cruel with her ,whom she treats cinderella as a slave. Cinderella is getting abused by her own
sisters and stepmother , but she doesn t say anything. The story shows us that society expects
women to be passive. It s not only about the behavior but women s goals themselves that are being
dictated by the fairy tales. The women in this story is expected to be cleaning as a maid for her

In the other hand, every girl in the kingdom wanted to marry the prince and be able to marry him .
The next day the two sisters went to the ball, and so did Cinderella, but dressed more magnificently
than before (9). The message this movie conveys is that the only way to escape from her
abusive sister and mother is to marry someone she has only knew for a few short hours.
Marriage shouldn t be a choice just because they want to get away from abuse but unfortunately
it may be the only option woman may have. Another message behind the story is that to be able
to be good , a girl needs to have gender behaviors and also goals for herself . In the beginning of
the book , the book states, Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella and she
had two ugly stepsisters who were very unkind who made her do all the hard work (1) . This
shows that Anastasia and Drizella are very evil and very selfish . So there attitudes and behavior
make them seem unpretty. In the other hand, Cinderella is different , the gentleman had also a
young daughter, of rare goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who
was the best creature in the world (5). Cinderella had a very good behavior and does everything
for her stepsister and stepmother. This shows that she is loved for qualities which are sweet, kind,
and gentle. Gender roles can be dangerous

Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is an expression of a human s
creativity sometimes relating to a specific theme or event. Within pictures it is easy to recognize
the story going on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is
more difficult due to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors
created images inspired within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling
stories without saying a single word. Pablo Picassois one example of these painters as one looks at
one of his most famous paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting
and just see random figures and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work
one sees the true meaning of the pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women
and children were depicted as defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection
to mankind. By portraying them as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the

Managers And Owners Are An Aggressive Cost Reduction
Managers and owners are also carrying out an aggressive cost reduction. They understand the
importance of improving, maintaining low overhead costs and closely monitor suppliers. But for
the reduction of fixed costs become possible, they reject many small customers without growth
potential operational complexities associated with too customized products. In addition, there has
also been a huge investment spurt in low cost automation and re engineering of production lines,
aiming to reduce labor costs and increase the quality consistently. With regard to the supply chain,
manufacturing decades have shaped an ecosystem of vendors specialized by sector, forming
different clusters throughout the entire country. Each cluster has very competitive costs through
specialization because they can benefit from the scale established exploiting its capacity, its
accumulated know how and experience of its skilled workers. Clusters can also apply a business
model based on a network of partners and / or interlinked competitors, which allows you to
reconfigure the supply chain and that adjustments can be made quickly. Quality Factor The
different pressures on suppliers to reduce costs have caused tensions and distortions. It is for this
reason, companies find it difficult to establish long term relationships with suppliers. Nonetheless,
most buyers still uses this direct approach to reduce costs, and many Chinese factories will do
whatever is necessary to satisfy. The responsible buyers and

Symptoms And Treatment Of A Tummy Tuck Essay
An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen. In the majority
of cases, separated or weakened muscles can be restored to create a smoother, firmer abdominal
profile. Dr. Sam Gershenbaum is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Miami, FL.
who frequently performs tummy tucks for individuals who want a flatter, firmer looking abdomen.
Reasons People in Miami who Choose to Have a Tummy Tuck
The abdomen is a troublesome area for many people. For many, it seems that no matter how
dedicated they are to working out and watching their diet, their abdomen continues to protrude and
sag. Even people who are of normal body weight and proportion can experience a protruding, loose
abdomen.
Issues that Affect the Appearance and Tone of the Abdomen
Common causes of a protruding and loose abdomen include:
Genetics Prior abdominal surgery Aging Pregnancy Weight fluctuations
Limitations of a Tummy Tuck
An abdominoplasty should not be considered a substitute for eating healthy, following an
appropriate exercise regimen or as a substitute for weight loss. A tummy tuck cannot specifically
address stretch marks. However, stretch marks located on the skin that Dr. Gershenbaum trims
away during the tummy tuck procedure will be removed as well. While the results achieved with a
tummy tuck are permanent, a positive outcome can be affected by substantial fluctuations in an
individual s weight. Therefore, individuals planning

Enders Game Book Compared to Movie

The Mysterious Disappearance of Locke and Demosthenes Ender s Game is a well known
science fiction genre book that is most popular with the young adult reader demographic. The
novel was published in 1985 and written by the American author Orson Scott Card (Card). The
official website of Orson Scott Card states that Ender s Game was the winner of both the Nebula
and Hugo awards for best novel in 1985 and 1986, respectively (OSC). In November of 2013 the

On the other hand, in the film Ender remains a young teenager the whole movie. This could be
most likely due to the fact that the creators of the film didn t want to have to cast three different
aged actors that looked very similar enough to be the same person. Also, this change made Ender
s time at the Battle School seem like it took weeks rather than years which would help move
along the flow of the movie and make it so the plot didn t seem to drag on as we watched a six
year old develop into a young adult. Even though this change might have positively affected to
overall flow of the storyline in the movie it feels like an uneven tradeoff when considering we
lose the greater insight to the development of Ender over the years he spends at Battle School.
For example, in the movie Ender has a very big problem with authority figures but he is a young
teenager and that is socially expected of him to act out towards adults. In the book when Ender
talks back to the adults it is as a six to eight year old which is a much more powerful image with
a much more antithetical meaning. An eight year old Ender would feel as if he was the underclass
and this would explain his subversive tendencies towards the adults who were in charge at the
Battle School. Since Ender is older in the movie the back talk and anti superior mindset he
establishes has much less shock value when watching it on screen. On screen Ender s

were the voices in the background. She had been young in this particular memory, though it was

huddled together to shout and scream for their favorite candidate. Patsy remembered thinking
how important it all seemed, how involved people had been, and such passion filled her now as a
candidate for her high school s student government. As she thought of that night more deeply, she
suddenly found what she had been looking for: an answer. Coalitions! That s how she would do
it. Being a Japanese American, and a woman nonetheless, would be a difficult obstacle to

The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags
Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in
America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by
the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught
on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry
than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong
incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words,
plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this
convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production,
distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the
convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their
existence.
Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic
made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year
as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene
). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental
consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the
journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two
main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based
transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse
environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity.
To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ).
Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the
form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing
process of Novolex, a maker of plastic packaging products that sells bags under the brand name
Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is described

Influences of Good and Evil and Man s True Nature shown in Lord of the Flies A journey up a
mountain to forgive our wrongdoings ends with the brutal death of our so called savior by the
people whom he was trying to save. Who does this sound like to you? Jesus? You are right,
however Simon from Lord of the Flies could also be considered correct because he is a Christ like
figure. The Freudian theory is a theory in literature that explains the relationships between
characters and their influences on each other. There are 3 main parts to this theory: the ID, which
is the bad or evilinfluence or character, the superego, which is reason and the good influence or
character, and the ego, which is the character who is being influenced by both the ID and the
superego and makes decisions based on these influences and their morals. Two other characters
also influence the ego, but not as directly. They are the Christ type figure and the figure of pure
evil and hatred. In Lord of the Flies, William Goldinguses the Freudian theory to show the contrast
between good and eviland their influences on each other, and also to express the moral allegory of
the book about how we have a natural instinct as humans to follow and stick with good influences.
The main direct influences on the main character of the novel and us as humans are the two
characters or influences representing good and evil, the superego and the ID. Of these two, the evil
often times influences more than the good. The

Deviance Examples

JAIL: Go directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Community chest, Monopoly.
Unlike board games, deviance in life is extremely complex. It is not as simple as picking up of
an unwanted card, and is certainly not as of straightforward as spending three turns in jail.
Instead, in society today, deviance is portrayed over many different situations, and it arises for
many contrasting reasons based on society s opinions and views. However, over time society s
thoughts and assessments change leading to a transformation of deviant behavior. First and
foremost, there are many devenant actions that over time go through a moral passage. A moral
passage is defined as a change of society s viewing on a deviant behavior. Simply, a once seemed
deviant act becomes socially acceptable. This change can come about for many different reasons
usually ending with the majority of people coming to an agreement that the act is not worth the
demming of deviance. The most common examples of this is the change of the law of achole.
However, there are many other examples of acts deemed socially acceptable with in time. Most
recently, being a homosexual has become in the social norm as well as even within legal rights.
There are many examples of deviant behaviors becoming less deviant and even considered within
the social norm. Further, there are many social norms that over time seem to turn backwards

Evolution Of Photosynthesis Essay
Approximately 4.6 billion years ago, it is thought that as many of the giant disc shaped cloud of
material keeps spinning they collide with each other forming the sun and other smaller terrestrial
worlds like Earth. The solar winds had less impact on lighter elements and gravity slowly gathered
these gases and dust creating asteroids, comets, and moons.
Earth s rocky core formed first, with heavy elements colliding and binding together. Dense material
sank to the center, while the lighter pieces created the crust. The planet s magnetic field probably
formed around this time. Gravity captured some of the lighter elements that make up the planet s
early atmosphere.

The Gilded Age And Imperialism Expansion

Part I: Short Essay Format
Question #1, American attitudes toward our culture can be paradoxical The Gilded Age or
Imperialism expansion examine the conflicting values that America held for each.
The gilded age was a period in history that caused a vast transformation due to the increase of
American industrialization. Values and attitudes toward The Gilded Agevaried.
The poor workers often saw the changed caused by the Gilded Age as corrupt, where the rich
business men looked at it as a positive change. The poor laborers in the gilded age often viewed
the change that occurred during the era as a negative one. The fact that working conditions for
laborers were poor was no secret. A passage from Upton Sinclair s The Jungle depicts these
conditions of an old man stating, He worked in a place where his feet were soaked in chemicals
and it was not long before the chemicals had eaten through his boots. Then sores began to break
out on his feet and grew worse and worse. In the end of this story the man continued to work
until he died because he needed to take care of his family. This alone would tend to develop an
attitude of negativity by poor immigrants and laborers toward changes made by the gilded. For
more proof one can find various examples of strikes and civil unrest by workers usually against
business owners and police. This too is evidence that the poor laborers of the time were unhappy
with their situation.

Character Analysis of Ophelia in Hamlet by William...
Ophelia is completely virtuous and dependent on the men in her life, which is something I can
identify with. Of all the characters in the play Hamlet, the one I liked the most is Ophelia.
Shakespeare portrayed her beautifully and put all his emotions into Ophelia s character. Ophelia
showed the exact image of the majority of women from my home country. In the play Hamlet,
Ophelia was the most innocent, meek, but distraught character.
Ophelia was a young, innocent girl, who was spirited and was the age of daydreamers. Her
dreams were all about the young prince Hamlet; she believed he was the man for her. A little bit
of attraction seems like love to girls of her age. She was immature so she started to believe in
Hamlet s love for her and gave her untouched heart to him. Ophelia told Polonius, And hath given
countenance to his speech, my lord, with almost all the holy vows of heaven (I.iii.114). We have
evidence that Ophelia thought Hamlet really loved her. When her father asked her about Hamlet
she replied, He hath, my lord, of late made many tenders of his affection to me (I. iii. 100). Her
heart always convinced her that Hamlet loved her. While she was crazy, she admitted that Hamlet
already used her and, due to her innocence, she lost her virginity. She still was heartbroken that
Hamlet thought that she was not loyal to him. She wanted to say no to her father, when he asked
Ophelia to spy on Hamlet but she could not do it because the women of that era had no power to

Chapter 2: Shays Rebellion Everyone knows that the Constitution is one of the most important
documents in American history, but many people have never heard of Daniel Shays. Daniel
Shays, a Revolutionary War veteran turned farmer, lived in Western Massachusetts after the war.
He had planned on retiring from his military life from which he had fought for the ideals of the
revolution. However, he was drawn back into military life fighting against the very government
he battled to create. After the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation were created to
govern the new nation. The states were loosely tied together by a weak national government that
had little applicable power. The states were left to individually find ways to pay for their war
debts. Massachusetts did so by heavily taxing its people. The taxes were so heavy that in many
cases people were paying more than they had paid under British rule. Daniel Shays, feeling
outraged and betrayed, helped to organize the already present groups of fellow angry farmers into
a rebel army. His army numbered close to 2,000 men. January 25, 1787 was to be the day that
Shays would lead his men to attack the federal arsenal at Springfield. Due to communication
difficulties, about 400 of Shays men were not

The Presidential System Of Government
No matter the system of government, there will always be advantages and disadvantages to it. Not
everyone wants or expects the same same things so how can the government supply everything that
is needed and wanted by the people no matter how hard they try. Three of the systems of
government: presidential, parliamentary, and communist arouse advantages and disadvantages
within the government. Within the governmental structure of the presidential system, the executive
branch is led by the president, who is both the head of state and the government. In its existence, it
is separate from legislaturewherein it cannot dismiss. As it is separate from those rulings, the
president does not have as much power or control creating a system of checks and balances,
allowing each branch to monitor one another. It is a stable system that is kept in line as it has
fixed two year terms. The people must elect or re elect the president to have them a longer amount
of time, making his leadership and authority more legitimate as the people choose him. To appeal
to the people, political parties are formed to uphold the potential presidential candidates. These
parties are long term and established ones that are trustworthy. Throughout it all, the people have
the choice of their candidates as almost every position has a term in which a new person must be
elected or another must be elected. Public opinion constantly changes, as does their opinion on the
people they had elected into power. While

Why Do Bees Have A Sense Of Smell
During the early 1900s, two experiments were performed to determine whether bees have a
sense of smell. Experiment 1 Identical cardboard boxes with removable covers were set up on a
table. Each individual box had a door opening for bees. A dish of sugar water that was scented
with a fragrant oil was placed in one box, and all the other boxes were left empty. After the bees
had been exploring the boxes for many hours, it was evident that the bees could very easily find
the fragrant sugar water even after the boxes had been switched to different places. After the
initial training period, clean boxes were prepared for the bees. No sugar water was used; however,
the same fragrant oil was used to scent one box. Bees continued to buzz around

Before Valpo, I was a shy and timid young artist who only express ideas and thoughts quietly

Sartre s Theory Of The Radical Freedom Essay
Discuss Sartre s theory of the radical freedom of consciousness
Jean Paul Sartre in his book Being and Nothingness provided us with a new interpretation of
freedom consistent with his famous account on existentialism. This is the view that existence
precedes its essence: In a word, man must create his own essence: it is in throwing himself into the
world, suffering there, struggling there, that he gradually defines himself (Sartre, 1943), (Onof,
2016). Here, Sartre stated that humans are completely free and that this comes at a cost, as
ultimately, we have the burden of responsibility. Nonetheless, of main consideration, is discussing
Sartre s theory of the radical freedom of consciousness. This view is where he explained that at
every second of decision making, we have the possibility to modify ourselves, i.e. by participating
in what Sartre calls new projects . But, this view is undermined, as it has the potential to jeopardise
our very existence in the world (Onof, 2016).
In this essay, I will be providing one explanation of what freedom entails for Sartre and this will
be followed by a brief explanation of a contrasting account brought forward by Thomas Hobbes,
who saw freedom as the ability to do whatever one wishes to do. I will then move onto explaining
Sartre s account on free will, of the different views he adopted and expanded on. I will then explain
what makes his explanation on freedom so radical . This will be followed by a discussion of some of

ANALYSIS OF A RECENT SERVICE EXPERIENCE
A recent service experience Recently, I had a very awful experience with Uber service which
makes me realize the difficulty of perfect service. I tried to call an Uber car, two month ago, to the
Miami international airport. It took about 30 minutes before the driver finally showed up and she
claimed that my apartment was very hard to locate. Meanwhile, I was aware that she barely
speaks English. She told me she just came from Cuba one month ago and only speaks Spanish
but I merely speak. According to recent study found that there are 66.37% of Miami Dade s
residents speak Spanish, while those who only speak English make up 28.07% (MLA, 2010).
Then, she set up navigation bring me to the destination. However, she missed the first exit of
highway without noticed and refused my help. I suggestion her exist next one and go back to the
first exist we just missed. Unfortunately, she kept following the navigator, eventually stopped at a
cargo warehouse and told me she got lost. I had no choice but to use my GPS got us arrived at the
airport finally. Moreover, I was charged for those extra miles due to Uber system calculation.

with Uber. The lady is not qualified as a professional drive. She didn t offering a quality service nor

The Central Auditory System
The receptive organ for audition is the organ of Corti, located on the basilar membrane (Carlson
Birkett, 2017). The inner hair cells form synapses with the dendrites of the bipolar neurons whose
axons give rise to the cochlear branch of the eighth cranial nerve. The central auditory system
involves several brain stem nuclei, including the cochlear nuclei, superior olivary complexes, and
inferior colliculi. The medial geniculate nucleus relays auditory information to the primary auditory
cortex on the medial surface of the temporal lobe. The primary auditory cortex contains three
separate tonotopic representations of auditory information and is surrounded by two levels of

Summary Of Willa Cather s A Wagner Matinee
A Wagner Matinee, by Willa Cather is a powerful short story encompassing many themes, the Most
powerful of which, being one of sacrifice. Our main character Aunt Georgina, like many
Homesteaders in the 19th century worked tirelessly raising a family, facing countless days of
exhausting labor, and braving whatever the elements decided to throw their way. This homesteader
lifestyle and the hardships which accompanied it often meant that anyone who had strong cultural
or musical interests would have to subdue them and replace their favored sonatas and overtures,
with hard labor and mind numbing tasks. As her years of labor wore on, even the most enduring of
Georgina s passion, her loveof music, was eventually forced into a sad remission. In choosing to
elope with her young lover and to pursue a homesteader life, Georgina had to sacrifice many of the
pleasures she once enjoyed. Despite the many years she faced toiling away, her passions, though
forced dormant, never ceased to exist.
It is the turn of the 19th Century a time where countless families sought to make their fortunes and
dreams come true by moving west. Our story opens up with Georgina s nephew receiving a letter
that she will be arriving the next day to attend to some family business. Upon reading the worn note
in his hands her nephew instantly pictures his aunt, describing her worn figure as at once pathetic
and grotesque even later comparing her disfigurements to explorers who have left

Aspca Mission Statement
What comes to mind when you hear the song Angel by Sarah McLachlan? Do you get teary eyed
and change the channel like the musician herself? When I hear this song, the first thing that comes
to mind is a bunch of wide eyed mistreated puppies and kittens. Who is behind these television ads,
if you don t already know? The answer is the ASPCA. The American Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals, was the first humane society to be established in North America back in 1866.
The organization s goals and mission statement is to provide effective means for the prevention of
cruelty to animals throughout the United States, (The American Society for the Prevention of

Pathos is an appeal to emotions and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by
creating an emotional response. Referring to the television advertisements, these videos say
animals are abused and helpless. These animals need to be rescued from their abusive homes, and
even though many have been helped, there is still more to be done. Therefore, more donations are
needed. The tone in these videos is hopeful yet morose. It is hopeful because they say it is not too
late to save more animals, but it is morose to reflect the suffering of the mistreated and neglected
ones. The ASPCA uses sad music, celebrities, images and videos of abandoned, beaten, and starved
puppies and kittens playing to the audience s emotions. Angel by Sarah McLachlan is the song
associated with this commercial. This heart wrenching song contains lyrics such as you are
pulled from the wreckage, (Sarah McLachlan Animal Cruelty Video). As the song plays, the
viewer sees pictures and videos of animals being rescued, and hurt pets that may not recover. The
combination of the song and pictures makes viewers feel emotionally attached to the animals on
the screen. After viewing, many feel that donating is their obligation because it is impossible to
avoid the close up images of a watery eyed dog, forcing you to make eye contact and feel a
connection. Sarah McLachlan s words also contribute to the

Jesus Kick Off His Sermon With The Beatitudes Analysis
Kicking off His sermon with the Beatitudes, Jesus seeks to illustrate the necessary attitudes for life
within the kingdom of God. These types of behaviors are generally perceived as unconventional.
Yet, all nine of the Beatitudes share two common attributes: dependence upon God and trust in
Him. Starting His sermon this way would have been Jesusway of quickly dispelling the typical
views held by the Jews of His day. Frequently, Jews in the first century wouldn t have considered the
aspects detailed in the Beatitudes as being important or weighty matters. As Jesus intention is to
correct the misinterpretations propagated by the Pharisees and Sadducees, it makes sense that He
would commence His teachings with these blessed are they statements.... Show more content on

Jesus in His final beatitude (cf. Matt. 5:11 12) instructs that those who suffer for the sake of
righteousness are blessed and shall inherit the kingdom. Contrary to contemporary views on
persecutions, Jesus is specifically referencing sufferings endured from religious people for religious
reasons. This beatitude exemplifies the idea of unconventional thought processes in the kingdom.
Rather than revile and slander their persecutors, Jesus teaches that they should rejoice and be
exceedingly glad (cf. Matt. 5:12a). Fighting back lends itself to being incorrect or undedicated;
remaining passive, on the other hand, shows a great deal of courage and contentment which would
speak much louder than being combative (cf. 1 Pet. 3:13

Analysis Of Cathedral By Raymond Carver
A New Perspective Everyone at one point has judged a book by its cover. In the short story,
Cathedral , Raymond Carver creates a narrator who bases off ideas and assumptions about blind
people from movies. The narrator has never interacted with a blind person before the day where
his wife invites her friend, who is named Robert, to stay. The narrator and Robert have never
met, but the narrator has a strong dislike towards Robert before meeting. The narrator s closed
mindedness and misconceptions leads him to judge Robert, however after a few hours of
interaction, the narrator learns more about him and grows to have a new perspective about people
not being who they think they are. The narrator is pre judgemental towards all people who are
blind, whether or not he has met them. He believes all blind people are the same as those he has
watched in movies. The narrator perception of the blindis that they moved slowly and never
laughed and when they went out they were led by seeing eye dogs (Carver 104). The movie
industry creates a false image of the blind, which leads to the narrator s assumptions. However,
the blind are not all the same, just like how everyone else in the world are not the same. People
are designed to be different in their personalities, thoughts, looks and much more. The narrator s
ideas of Robert are based off of false conceptions and this changes his attitude towards Robert. The
narrator already has strong feelings towards Robert before meeting him

She cut her hair and bought a men s jacket and trousers. She also wore her right arm in a sling to

watchful in Baltimore to prevent slaves from escaping into Pennsylvania, which was a free state
. Somehow they got on that train and headed to the Happy State . On December 21, 1848 they
were able to board a steamship for Philadelphia, where they arrived on Christmas day. The Craft s
did not have it so easy and in 1850 the fugitive slave act was passed. They were threatened by
slave catchers in Boston and with the help of supporters they escaped to England. While in
England they were aided by English anti slave abolishers. They attended school there and were
taught to read and write. The Crafts also participated in many reform organizations and earned
money for lecturing. Author and purpose: By the 1850 s England had many organizations

Evaluation Of Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results
Evaluation of Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results by Joanne Lipman is a well supported
article. Mrs. Lipman gives good insight to tough teachers getting good results from their
students by using her experience with her music teacher Mr. Kupchynsky. She provides many
references to case studies performed on students in classrooms by doctors and graduate students
to support her point. Mrs. Lipman explains that her Mr. Kupchynsky was a strict teacher, but
because of his strictness when he passed away all of his past students that came to pay their
respects were all successful people in life some were doctors and lawyers. Mrs. Lipman then
continues to use her personal story to explain some of the conceptions of present day educators
and how they are false. She uses eleven ways to prove that today s educational system as become
soft on present day children. The fear, of course, is that failure will traumatize our kids, sapping
their self esteem. Wrong again. A 2006 study, a Bowling Green State University graduate student
followed 31 Ohio band students who were required to audition for placement and found that even
students who placed lowest did not decrease in their motivation and self esteem in the long term.
The study concluded that educators need not be as concerned about the negative effects of picking
winners and losers (Lipman). I really enjoyed reading this article, it really did open my eyes to
how the world of educationhas changed but the old ways of teaching

  • 2. TOT Tip of the tongue States Metacognitive Awareness Melinda Ortiz Florida International University Word Count: 913 Have you ever had a feeling of forgetting a word or name you desperately want to say but can not quite get your thought wrapped around the actual word? This phenomenon is called tip of the tongue, or TOT. As stated in the text, TOT describes your subjunctive experience of knowing a target word in which you are searching, but cannot recall what the subjunctive word is at that very moment (Matlin, 2014). Individuals whom experience a TOT moment can recall several phonological features of the target word such as a first letter, syllables, or other words that are similar, although the whole phonology is not available (Brown ... He was then asked to try and indicate a phonological feature of the word, or another word that was similar to the target word, but he was unable to provide any information phonologically that was associated to the target word. The experiment preformed on Dante in this article supports the two stage model of lexical production regarding the lexical retrieval failure of words (Badecker at. El). In conclusion, the tip of the tongue phenomenon is an experience that happens to everyone sometime during his or her life. Trying to recall a word can be frustrating, but with the help of phonological indicators, word retrieval can be possible. Our lexicon, or word bank is filled with tens of thousands of words that we learn over time, so difficulty trying to retrieve the right word from our bank advocates that there are so many words that could fit one category and the one we are trying to retrieve is at the tip of our tongue. The tip of the tongue phenomenon is associated with lexical retrieval failure because it is an event where a word could not be recalled to finish a thought. The study by Badecker et. al (2011), supports the idea of lexical retrieval failure in that individuals who have trouble recalling words have an idea of what they want to say but cannot retrieve the word. • 3. The Battle Of The Pacific War The date is June 4, 1942 and raging in the blue Pacific Ocean around a small atoll named Midway, a battle is being fought for survival and complete victory. Late in the day on June the 4th, United States Navy helldivers scream down from the heavens to rain hell upon the Japanese fleet carriers below. Within minutes, three of the Imperial Navy s great carriers are sent to the bottom of the Pacific in great fireballs. The massive destruction was wrought by the well known Douglas SBD Dauntlessdive bomber of the Second World War. The slow but deadly SBD Dauntless served the United StatesNavy well for most of the Pacific War and was eventually replaced by the newer and improved SB2C Helldiveror simply the beast . In the rear seat the radioman gunner was equipped with two rearward facing .30 caliber machine guns nicknamed the stinger by the gunners. In 1943, the Navy slowly started to replace its aging Dauntless with the newer Curtiss SB2C Helldiver. Despite the United States Navy replacing the old Dauntless with the Helldiver in 1943, the Dauntless continued to serve proudly with the United States Marine Corps for the rest of the war. The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was first introduced into combat with the Unites States Navy in November 1943. However, the design was first thought up in May of 1939 to replace the obsolete SB2U Vindicator and the old but reliable SBD Dauntless dive bomber. When the first prototype models came off the production lines, there were several major problems with the design, which delayed its entry into official service with the United States Navy. The Curtiss Helldiver design was a modest step up from the older SBD Dauntless. The basic principle of the dive bomber did not change with the introduction of the Helldiver. The SB2C was equipped with dive flaps, but on the first models the flaps were solid and caused buffeting when going into the high g dives. This was later changed to perforated dive brakes that improved the diving performance of the aircraft. Just like the SBD Dauntless, the Helldiver was crewed by two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RMS continues to see delays relating to Property Preservation (PPI) in terms of obtaining bids and coordinating other efforts related to the property preservation. In a recent conversation with Altisource and Ocwen regarding bid approval, Altisource indicated there are significant delays in getting Ocwen to approve bids. During the call, Altisource aired some dirty laundry in that Altisource is pushing back and that maybe the problem relates to the thousands of bid submissions that Altisource has submitted to Ocwen for expense approval that Ocwen does not ever review or approve. However, there are 2 OTSC motions and it appears the former borrower may be contesting the foreclosure sale. A hearing on both motions was held on May 16, 2016 and per Altisource this is still pending a ruling from the judge. Minimalism, Maya Lin and Vietnam Memorial Essay Minimalism, Maya Lin and Vietnam Memorial Discussion Minimal art is characterized by its simplicity in both form and content, where personal expression is removed in order to achieve this. The intention of minimalist artists is to allow the audience to view a composition more intensely because the distractions of theme etc. have been removed . Minimalism can be detected as early as the 18th century where the artist Goethe constructed an Alatar of Good Fortune that consisted of a stone sphere and a cube. They may debate a particular memorial s artistic merit, its cost or its location. However, common to all war memorials remains the intention that they serve as a reminder to us of those we have lost to war. 4) I think Yad Vashem is the most effective and touching memorial. The displays are moving and empowering. The Avenue of the Righteous reminds the world that there is always a faithful remnant of good people and that because there were so few, we need to do more to vouch safe the world. The educational programs and sites are rich with meaning and designed to give focus and inspire healthy memory and renewed commitment to creating a just world. 5) The main problem is there is lack of American Symbols like flag, red amp; white colors, and flowers. The memorial only focuses on people who died but I think this should be the purpose of a memorial not patriotism or nationalistic ideas. There is no single variable that can be narrowed down that is responsible for the ups and downs that we as a global economy experience in any given day, month, or year. Instead, the health of the global economy is heavily reliant on the amount of effort that is put into keeping and maintaining it. How is this done? By making sure that we are all on the same page and working toward a similar goal. • 10. Theme Of Love In The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote In Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra s classic novel, The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote is a wonderful tale about a man who abandons his normal life to pursue life as a knight. The characters in the novel such as Dulcinea, his love, Marcela, Maritornes and Sancho Panza his squire happens to play a great and important role in the novel when exampling the theme of love. The themes of love, care, infatuation and loyalty are greatly expressed throughout the novel. Throughout the novel, Cervantes is able to examine how one can differentiate true love from false and infatuated love. The protagonist, Don Quixote s obsessive reading of books of chivalry plays a major role in defining his character; his inspiration for his travels as a knight errant comes from the literature about chivalry that he reads, the literature that causes him to lose his mind and go mad. Everything that he usually experiences in his journey, first happened in the books that inspired his travels. The character, Dulcinea s role as Quixote s lady love becomes equivalent with the position a king might hold in a true and honorable knight s life. Many heroes like Don Quixote have experienced many episodes dealing with the feeling of love. His unconditional love toward Aldonzo Lorenzo is seen to be a motivation for his survival. Aldonzo Lorenzo is a good looking peasant girl in a nearby village. Quixote shows his first sign of love when he gives Aldonzo Lorenzo a nickname called Dulcinea del Toboso in which he got it ... The signing of the accords was followed by a formal peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in March of 1979. Both the Israeli and Egyptian took significant risks and while many parties seemed to favor the peace deal, there were still segments of the society which either were skeptical or disapproved. Most notably, a group of Arab leaders known as the Steadfastness Front attempted to oppose the deal and considered Sadat s actions as traitorous. The history of modern Egypt begins with the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the interference of the French and British in 1798. While the French conquest of Egypt was unsuccessful, it did result in Muhammad Ali s assignment by the Ottoman Sultan to the region. Ali established himself and over the course of the early 1800s managed to carve out a significant standing in Egypt and implemented many reforms that helped to push Egypt ahead of much of the Ottoman Empire as the Suez Canal brought money and western influence into the region. By 1882, the British had taken control of Egypt from the Ottomans, with their focus on protecting the canal. Maybe it s some kind of childhood learned adaption of what type of music influences them, or maybe the way a musician preforms make them feel something. One artist in particular most definitely made an impact on people and caused an uproar in the late sixties. This woman s name was Janis Joplin. Born on January 19, 1943, Janis Joplin would begin her short, but memorable life in Port Arthur, Texas. As most do, Janis developed a love for music when she was the youngest she could remember. Her career really didn t take off until she joined the band, Big Brother and the Holding Company in 1966. ( Janis Joplin ) Only two years after joining the band, she would get into an altercation after their album together released, and then leave the band to pursue more. This was very influential to young women everywhere. Underneath this carefree, unfearful life, Janis struggled with insecurities and unfair bullying. • 13. What Is Okonkwo s Role In Igbo Society Since the civilization of the African continent the natives were seen as uncivilized and wild. Achebe throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo village in Nigeria during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main character Okonkwo and his prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe uses the abstract concept of the patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule his women...he was not really a man (Achebe 53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men in Ibo society hold the power over their families and if they can not control their family that they are not really a man. Okonkwo demonstrates the power he holds over his wife and children many times, often going too far. For instance, during the Week of Peace Okonkwo beats his wife Ojiugo when she went out to a friend s house without notice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roman Spectacles Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based upon what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii. Taking this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really happened in Ancient Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I should not just aimlessly believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly lie about a lot of things and are inaccurate, yet because they are older or have a mass platform what they say becomes the truth . How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as ... • 15. Final Maturation Stage Research Paper final maturation stage, the collagen is remodeled over time. When the body is inflicted with a penetrating wound, vessels and tissue fibers are ripped and broken. The area is then filled with leaking blood from the surrounding vessels and the outermost blood flow begins to form a scab. The surrounding vessels at that time constrict to minimize the bloodleakage in a process known as vasoconstriction. The first step of the body is to clot the blood and achieve hemostasis, or blood clotting to impede blood leakage. The blood also coagulates, forming into a gel like substance from its liquid state. The area of damage undergoes the coagulationcascade in which a fibrin clot is made. Blood platelets begin to release inflammatory factors and express glycoproteins on the cell membranes, a sticky like protein, in order to aggregate. The area then forms a fibrin matrix via fibrin and fibronectin fibers, which provide the scaffold for incoming cells. this fibrin clot plays a crucial role in clotting the surrounding area as well as trapping essential proteins and cells. OB and HRM, for example, are both concerned generally with people at work , although they focus on different levels of analysis. Roughly speaking, HRM is mostly concerned with individual and group issues, drawing principally, but not exclusively, from psychology, whereas OB tends to focus on organisational factors such as structure, design and culture, having its main theoretical base in A recent example is Chaos Theory, taken from mathematics and physics and ... Cinderella is about a girl who is trying to achieve her dreams but she has a step mother that is greedy and cruel with her ,whom she treats cinderella as a slave. Cinderella is getting abused by her own sisters and stepmother , but she doesn t say anything. The story shows us that society expects women to be passive. It s not only about the behavior but women s goals themselves that are being dictated by the fairy tales. The next day the two sisters went to the ball, and so did Cinderella, but dressed more magnificently than before (9). The message this movie conveys is that the only way to escape from her abusive sister and mother is to marry someone she has only knew for a few short hours. Marriage shouldn t be a choice just because they want to get away from abuse but unfortunately it may be the only option woman may have. Another message behind the story is that to be able to be good , a girl needs to have gender behaviors and also goals for herself . In the beginning of the book , the book states, Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella and she had two ugly stepsisters who were very unkind who made her do all the hard work (1) . This shows that Anastasia and Drizella are very evil and very selfish . So there attitudes and behavior make them seem unpretty. In the other hand, Cinderella is different , the gentleman had also a young daughter, of rare goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world (5). • 18. Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is an expression of a human s creativity sometimes relating to a specific theme or event. Within pictures it is easy to recognize the story going on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is more difficult due to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors created images inspired within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling stories without saying a single word. Pablo Picassois one example of these painters as one looks at one of his most famous paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting and just see random figures and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work one sees the true meaning of the pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women and children were depicted as defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection to mankind. By portraying them as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the women and children was an assault on the core of mankind. But how does the meaning of art and pictures relate to our church that stand at Sacred Heart University? Well, not only does the church contain mosaics and artwork inside, but the whole church itself is a big piece of art that sends a message about our school and community. Walking by the church someone may not recognize the meaning behind the church but like any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This could be most likely due to the fact that the creators of the film didn t want to have to cast three different aged actors that looked very similar enough to be the same person. Also, this change made Ender s time at the Battle School seem like it took weeks rather than years which would help move along the flow of the movie and make it so the plot didn t seem to drag on as we watched a six year old develop into a young adult. Even though this change might have positively affected to overall flow of the storyline in the movie it feels like an uneven tradeoff when considering we lose the greater insight to the development of Ender over the years he spends at Battle School. For example, in the movie Ender has a very big problem with authority figures but he is a young teenager and that is socially expected of him to act out towards adults. In the book when Ender talks back to the adults it is as a six to eight year old which is a much more powerful image with a much more antithetical meaning. An eight year old Ender would feel as if he was the underclass and this would explain his subversive tendencies towards the adults who were in charge at the Battle School. • 28. The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words, plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production, distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their existence. Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene ). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity. To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ). Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing process of Novolex, a maker of plastic packaging products that sells bags under the brand name Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is described ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who does this sound like to you? Jesus? You are right, however Simon from Lord of the Flies could also be considered correct because he is a Christ like figure. The Freudian theory is a theory in literature that explains the relationships between characters and their influences on each other. There are 3 main parts to this theory: the ID, which is the bad or evilinfluence or character, the superego, which is reason and the good influence or character, and the ego, which is the character who is being influenced by both the ID and the superego and makes decisions based on these influences and their morals. Two other characters also influence the ego, but not as directly. They are the Christ type figure and the figure of pure evil and hatred. In Lord of the Flies, William Goldinguses the Freudian theory to show the contrast between good and eviland their influences on each other, and also to express the moral allegory of the book about how we have a natural instinct as humans to follow and stick with good influences. The gilded age was a period in history that caused a vast transformation due to the increase of American industrialization. Values and attitudes toward The Gilded Agevaried. The poor workers often saw the changed caused by the Gilded Age as corrupt, where the rich business men looked at it as a positive change. The poor laborers in the gilded age often viewed the change that occurred during the era as a negative one. The fact that working conditions for laborers were poor was no secret. A passage from Upton Sinclair s The Jungle depicts these conditions of an old man stating, He worked in a place where his feet were soaked in chemicals and it was not long before the chemicals had eaten through his boots. Then sores began to break out on his feet and grew worse and worse. In the end of this story the man continued to work until he died because he needed to take care of his family. This alone would tend to develop an attitude of negativity by poor immigrants and laborers toward changes made by the gilded. For more proof one can find various examples of strikes and civil unrest by workers usually against business owners and police. This too is evidence that the poor laborers of the time were unhappy with their situation. On the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Character Analysis of Ophelia in Hamlet by William... Ophelia is completely virtuous and dependent on the men in her life, which is something I can identify with. Of all the characters in the play Hamlet, the one I liked the most is Ophelia. Shakespeare portrayed her beautifully and put all his emotions into Ophelia s character. Ophelia showed the exact image of the majority of women from my home country. In the play Hamlet, Ophelia was the most innocent, meek, but distraught character. Ophelia was a young, innocent girl, who was spirited and was the age of daydreamers. Her dreams were all about the young prince Hamlet; she believed he was the man for her. A little bit of attraction seems like love to girls of her age. She was immature so she started to believe in Hamlet s love for her and gave her untouched heart to him. Ophelia told Polonius, And hath given countenance to his speech, my lord, with almost all the holy vows of heaven (I.iii.114). We have evidence that Ophelia thought Hamlet really loved her. When her father asked her about Hamlet she replied, He hath, my lord, of late made many tenders of his affection to me (I. iii. 100). Her heart always convinced her that Hamlet loved her. While she was crazy, she admitted that Hamlet already used her and, due to her innocence, she lost her virginity. She still was heartbroken that Hamlet thought that she was not loyal to him. She wanted to say no to her father, when he asked Ophelia to spy on Hamlet but she could not do it because the women of that era had no power to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ten Days that Unexpectedly Changed America Summary Essay Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: Massacre at Mystic May 26, 1637 was a fateful day in the history of America. The actions of Major John Mason and his Puritan men set a precedent for the next two hundred years of European and Indian relations. On that clear May night near the Mystic River of New England, hundreds of Pequot Indians were killed by the Europeans and their allies, most of the victims being the elderly, women, and children. This massacre was a massive turning point in the Pequot War, effectively ruining the tribe. Already weakened by disease and by competing native tribes, the Pequot were quickly routed and by September 21, 1638 the war ended with the Treaty of Hartford. The treaty... Chapter 2: Shays Rebellion Everyone knows that the Constitution is one of the most important documents in American history, but many people have never heard of Daniel Shays. Daniel Shays, a Revolutionary War veteran turned farmer, lived in Western Massachusetts after the war. He had planned on retiring from his military life from which he had fought for the ideals of the revolution. However, he was drawn back into military life fighting against the very government he battled to create. After the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation were created to govern the new nation. The states were loosely tied together by a weak national government that had little applicable power. The states were left to individually find ways to pay for their war debts. Massachusetts did so by heavily taxing its people. The taxes were so heavy that in many cases people were paying more than they had paid under British rule. Daniel Shays, feeling outraged and betrayed, helped to organize the already present groups of fellow angry farmers into a rebel army. His army numbered close to 2,000 men. January 25, 1787 was to be the day that Shays would lead his men to attack the federal arsenal at Springfield. Due to communication difficulties, about 400 of Shays men were not ... • 40. The Presidential System Of Government No matter the system of government, there will always be advantages and disadvantages to it. Not everyone wants or expects the same same things so how can the government supply everything that is needed and wanted by the people no matter how hard they try. Three of the systems of government: presidential, parliamentary, and communist arouse advantages and disadvantages within the government. Within the governmental structure of the presidential system, the executive branch is led by the president, who is both the head of state and the government. In its existence, it is separate from legislaturewherein it cannot dismiss. As it is separate from those rulings, the president does not have as much power or control creating a system of checks and balances, allowing each branch to monitor one another. It is a stable system that is kept in line as it has fixed two year terms. The people must elect or re elect the president to have them a longer amount of time, making his leadership and authority more legitimate as the people choose him. To appeal to the people, political parties are formed to uphold the potential presidential candidates. These parties are long term and established ones that are trustworthy. Throughout it all, the people have the choice of their candidates as almost every position has a term in which a new person must be elected or another must be elected. • 43. Sartre s Theory Of The Radical Freedom Essay Discuss Sartre s theory of the radical freedom of consciousness Jean Paul Sartre in his book Being and Nothingness provided us with a new interpretation of freedom consistent with his famous account on existentialism. This is the view that existence precedes its essence: In a word, man must create his own essence: it is in throwing himself into the world, suffering there, struggling there, that he gradually defines himself (Sartre, 1943), (Onof, 2016). Here, Sartre stated that humans are completely free and that this comes at a cost, as ultimately, we have the burden of responsibility. Nonetheless, of main consideration, is discussing Sartre s theory of the radical freedom of consciousness. This view is where he explained that at every second of decision making, we have the possibility to modify ourselves, i.e. by participating in what Sartre calls new projects . But, this view is undermined, as it has the potential to jeopardise our very existence in the world (Onof, 2016). In this essay, I will be providing one explanation of what freedom entails for Sartre and this will be followed by a brief explanation of a contrasting account brought forward by Thomas Hobbes, who saw freedom as the ability to do whatever one wishes to do. I will then move onto explaining Sartre s account on free will, of the different views he adopted and expanded on. I will then explain what makes his explanation on freedom so radical . This will be followed by a discussion of some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The narrator and Robert have never met, but the narrator has a strong dislike towards Robert before meeting. She provides many references to case studies performed on students in classrooms by doctors and graduate students to support her point. Mrs. Lipman explains that her Mr. Kupchynsky was a strict teacher, but because of his strictness when he passed away all of his past students that came to pay their respects were all successful people in life some were doctors and lawyers. Mrs. Lipman then continues to use her personal story to explain some of the conceptions of present day educators and how they are false.
