New Orleans By Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur De Bienville...
New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. Forty five
years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for
the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New
Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was
sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana
Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil
War in 1861.
New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African
descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free
and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal
education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as
opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures
created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the
culture and Jazz music.
In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days
off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. In
1817, the mayor of New Orleans issued an ordinance which restricted slaves congregation to an area
called Congo Square. On Sunday afternoons, men

Essay On Depreciation
Depreciation of Fixed Assets
Depreciation
A business may acquire fixed assets such as land, buildings, machinery, office equipment,
delivery equipment and natural resources (e.g. a piece if mining land)to help in the process of
its operations to earn revenue in order to make a profit. Such assets, by their very nature,
provide benefits to the business for more than one financial year or period. In fact, when a business
buys a fixed asset at a certain cost (say $10,000), it is actually buying a bundle of service benefits
that will be provided by that fixed asset over a period of time in the future (say 10 years).
Take, for example, when a wholesaler buys a delivery van, it is in effect buying transporting
services for his goods that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calculation of Depreciation
It is very difficult to come to the true value of the service benefits provided by a fixed asset that is
used up or consumed during an accounting period. Depreciation is at best an estimate, depending
on which method we use. It is only after the fixed asset is sold off that we can know for certain
how much depreciation should actually have been.
Depreciation can be calculated by one of the following methods: 1. The Straight Line or Fixed
Instalment method; 2. The Reducing Balance or Diminishing Balance method; and 3. The
Revaluation method.
Straight Line or Fixed Instalment Method
By this method, the fixed asset is assumed to depreciate at equal amount for every year of its
expected lifetime. The cost of the asset is spread evenly over its lifetime.
Reducing Balance or Diminishing Balance Method
By this method, the asset is supposed to depreciate at a fixed percentage of its depreciated value
(or book value) at the beginning of each year. The amount set aside for depreciation will diminish
with every successive period since the value of the asset at the beginning of every successive
period tends to diminish.
The main advantage of this method is that in the Profit and Loss Account, the amount of overall
expenses charged for the use of a fixed asset would be more or less constant throughout the asset s
lifetime. This is because depreciation is only one of the expenses involved. Other

The Pros And Cons Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The Fourteenth Amendment has, overall, been a great incorporation into the Constitution
through its equal protection clause, due process clause, and other specific feature such as the
ability to be show the presence of the separate but equal mindset invested amongst individuals in
the Court case of Plessy v. Ferguson, the implementation of said mindset in the decision of the
Brown v. The Board of Education Supreme Court case, the usage of the due process clause in
the 2000 presidential election between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore, and
both equal protection clause and de process clause in the more recent case of obergefell v.
hodges. First off, Plessy v Ferguson is a prime example for the use of the fourteenth amendment s
equal protection clause protecting Homer Plessy, enforcing a separate but equal mindset among
the people touched by this court case, and demonstrated the strength of the equal protection clause.
Homer Plessy In the 1892 incident, Plessy refused to sit in Jim Crow car (expression meaning
Negro, racial segregation directed toward African Americans), breaking Louisiana law. At first the
Supreme Court didn t believe his constitutional rights were violated. Their reason behind this is
that it was a state law that implies merely a legal distinction between whites and people of color. To
them, it did not violate the 13th or 14th amendment. This state law was Louisiana s, the law was
about providing separate but equal accommodations for the

Modern Er El Paso High School
A revival, a rebirth, a renaissance of art that belongs in the past but seems to endure because of its
outstanding and unrivaled beauty. To revive a great nations architecture in the modern era goes to
show just how much of an impact an ancient empire had on humanity that extends almost two
thousand years in the past. El Paso High school is a great example of Corinthian Style architecture
that was predominant by the Roman Empirein the years of the Pax Romana. The building is a
masterpiece that displays two ancient Roman styles of architecture, on its East Façade and the
other in the Southeast Wing. These two entrances give more than what the eye can see; they display

Looking back at the main building lies the main east façade with its beautiful porch leading up
to the main structure. The size and exquisite decor is what takes the mind of the city view and
into the past of a revival architecture. Constructed by Henry C. Trost from Trost Trost Architects
Engineers, this building serves as a revival evoking memories from Greece and Rome. The
façade itself consists of six shafts or columns which indicate the ionic part of the Corinthian
style structure. The Corinthian style capitals are a piece of work; they take the viewer back in
time. The Corinthian leaves and beautifully carved flowers are clearly visible as if time had no
effect on the buff terra cotta. The detail is acute and precise, to the extent that beautiful is a dull
word to describe the vision. The bases of the columns are like a perfect structure that hold a grand
shaft that leads to beauty on top. Furthermore, each column is big, no, in fact they are huge, they
are elegant in their design and seem to fit one another as they stand side by side. Above the six
columns lies the architrave. The architrave is a small part of the structure but fine to the last detail,
it is astonishing the level of perfection that was achieved down to the last inch of this structure.

Compare And Contrast Fission Vs Nuclear Fusion

variety of sources, such as from the sun, wind, water, and nuclear power. Nuclear energy is a new
form of energy. The nuclear energy have two different types, that is nuclear fission, and nuclear
fusion. Nuclear fission had been found in a long time before, but nuclear fusionis something new to
this world. If I have money, I will chose to fundraiser for the nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission
basically is an atomic decay. This is a process of the atomic nuclei divided into two or more
smaller nuclei and several products. Base on that, people used this process to create nuclear power
plants and nuclear weapons. The advantage of the nuclear fission

Hip Hop And The Music Genre
What is Hip Hop? According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Hip Hop can be delineated as a music
genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic
and rhyming speech that is chanted.1 Originating from a disparaged subculture in the South
Bronx and eagerly spreading through other sectors of New York City during the 1970 s, Hip
Hop evolved from formerly being a relatively fraudulent style to currently being a
commercialized and disseminated music genre among diverse areas around the globe. Hip hop s
evolution into a composition distinct from R B ensued around the time that drum machines and
sampling technology became widely available to the general public at a financially affordable
cost for the average consumer. Turntablist techniques (i.e. scratching, beat mixing, matching, and
beat juggling) ultimately developed along with the breaks, producing a base that could be
rapped over, in a manner similar to signifying, as well as percussive breaks (an influence found
in Jamaican dub music). The art of manipulating sound and creating illustrious music were few
of the techniques that identified the aeon of the hip hop genre: Three of whom will be presented
The Diamond Era (1983 1988), The Golden Era (1989 1993), and The Silver Age (1994 1998). To
commence, the first era (The Diamond Era) arose in the year 1983. Although Hip Hop emerged
before 1983, The Diamond era predates the introduction of a new foundation to the hip hop genre

An analysis of porters value chain
To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is
useful to model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a
range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is
known as the value chain.
According to Porter (1985),
Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities .
Through using the ValueChain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular
industry can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below:
Upstream Activities Downstream Activities
Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. Primary activities are ... Show

As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a
system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation,
reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in
competitive position.
Upstream and Downstream
A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers.
The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm
specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value
system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company
performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to
delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or
supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the
organization operates.
Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the
difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production
and delivery of the product/service. It depends on the structure of the value system, how this margin
spreads across the suppliers, producers, distributors, customers, and other elements of the value
system. Each member of the system will use its

Abstract
Arthritis is a medical condition that causes joint inflammation, stiffness, and resulting pain. This
disease affects an estimated 40 million Americans, with a positive correlation towards old age.
Opening medication bottles can be difficult for arthritis patients who struggle to open twist lids,
snap lids, and click locks. Janet Kramer is an arthritis patient that struggles to open her medicine
bottles. This solution uses a sliding mechanism that requires no twisting motion and little force. The
mechanism is operated by pulling on a rod, and pushing down. The downwards motion creates a
class one lever that uses the shell of the bottle as a fulcrum. The effort force is magnified by a
mechanical advantage to lift the cap. This solution will be designed according to design
specifications and evaluated with the performance benchmarks. If the concept performs
unsatisfactorily, the design process will reiterate until the problem is solved for the stakeholder.

Nvc Tool Analysis
Reflect on the usefulness of the two tools.
I particularly enjoyed reading all about SCARF, more so than NVC, I think because I can relate
more to it. Perhaps this means I need to work more on NVC? I m not sure because I also like to
think I can politely and correctly communicate with others, usually doing it assertively but in a non
violent way.
The five key elements of SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) were
perhaps a little more natural to me, than using the NVC process, except for Autonomy, which I have
only just learned about in this unit.
I believe they are both very useful to learn, perfect and utilize in every day life with relationships,
at work, with the self, etc.
How would you apply the two tools in your daily life? Use two concrete examples for both tools (4
examples).

I did not really know much at all about autonomy until reading Rock s Journal (2008), but it is

Causing Harm With Trade Embargos And Sanctions
Causing Harm With Trade Embargos and Sanctions
Trade embargos have tremendous consequences for countries that are being embargoed. The
embargos not only affect the country that are being embargoed, but the effect bleed over the
borders to the surrounding countries. The list of countries that have been sanctioned by the United
Nations included Russia, North Cyprus, and Cuba. United Nations sanctions that target
countries affect the economy, the morale, and encourages criminal activities to obtain goods.
The majority of good hearted citizens would be appalled if they were walking down a street and
saw a dog tied up in a yard looking like it hadn t eaten for a week. These citizens would take a
minute retrieve their phone and call the Humane Society to report this cruel treatment of this
poor dog. As doctor C. M. Tiplada, D. B. Walsh, and C. J. C. Phillips wrote in their journal
article, Public outrage after undercover footage of animal cruelty is screened has been reported
in a range of countries, such as USA, Canada, and the UK (636). Who do the citizen call when
they are being treated like the dog and the owner of the dog is the United Nations? This is how
people around the world are being treated each and every day when their country has an embargo
imposed on the resources that are able to enter and exit their country. These embargos create
personnel harm to the citizens of the country at the expense of political malfeasance.

fraction number. These peaks occurred at fraction number 43 and fraction number 50, with
absorbances close to 1. Around these fraction numbers was where the largest elution of protein
and likely О± lactalbumin was present. Due to high amino acid content of phenylalanine,
tryptophan, and tyrosine, absorbance occurs at 280 nm. The high 280 nm absorbance would
suggest a higher amount of protein elution in the fraction. The early fraction numbers had
significantly high absorbance between fractions 4 and 9. This was due to quick mobility of the
protein through the sephadex column during the size exclusion chromatography before fractions
were gathered. The absorbance of the protein fragments: 7, 8, and 9 were all between 0.59 and
0.62. Protein fragments with absorbance values above 0.5 had a noticeable amount of desirable
protein within the fraction. The electrophoresis gel was labeled in comparison with a pre stained
protein ladder as shown in Figure 2. The 10 kDa served as a base for the accuracy of the other
protein ladder measurements. The 17 kDa measurement on the protein ladder was compared with
the band values of the protein fractions. О± lactalbumin has a molecular weight of 14.2 kDa. The
second protein band that eluted from the fractions in the gel was significantly close to 14 kDa in
comparison with the 17 kDa measurement, revealing that О± lactalbumin was present in the
fractions. ОІ lactoglobulin

The Ethical Issues Of Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide Is it Right or Wrong? The ethical issues of physician assisted suicide
are both emotional and controversial, as it ranks right up there with abortion. Some argue physician
assisted suicide is ethically permissible for a dying person who has choosing to escape the
unbearable suffering at the end of life. Furthermore, it is the physician s duty to alleviate the
patients suffering, which at times justifies providing aid in dying. These arguments rely a great
deal on the respect for individual autonomy, which recognizes the rights of competent people to
choose the timing and manner of their death, when faced with terminal illness.
Others have argued that physician assisted suicide is not ethically permissible, because it contradicts
the traditional duty of physician s to preserve life and to do no harm. Furthermore, many argue that
if physician assisted suicide is legalized, abuses would take place, because as social forces
condone the practice, it will lead to slippery slope that forces (PAS) on the disabled, elderly, and
the poor, instead of providing more complex and expensive palliative care. While these arguments
continue with no end in sight, more and more of the terminally ill cry out in agony, for the right to
end their own suffering.
While the main issue that surrounds physician assisted suicide is pain control, for the terminally ill,
proponents are still unwilling to compromise. However, if both proponents and

Essay about Foreign Policy
The Roosevelt Corollary greatly affected American foreign policy. It was in sharp contrast to the
Monroe Doctrine, put in place to stop foreign intervention with the American continents. In 1823
President Monroe implemented US policy that stated European powers were not allowed to

Roosevelt expanded upon this policy in response to European intervention with Latin America.
This policy became known as the Roosevelt Corollary. The document echoed the style of

The economy was expanding and the US became more interested in the well being of surrounding
economies. The Dominican Republic was in debt to various European nations at this time. They
were having problems paying their debts and chose to stop paying them. In response to this issue,
President Theodore Roosevelt formulated an extension to the Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt
Corollary, as it became to be known, gave the US the power to intervene with European powers
coming west in an attempt to collect debts.2 The fear was that Europe, in an attempt to collect
debts, would occupy and control the country in debt. With the Panama Canal on the scope, this
would hinder economic stimulus in the US. President Roosevelt s beliefs are best captured in the
Corollary when he stated:
It is not true that the United States feels any land hunger or entertains any projects as regards the
other nations of the Western Hemisphere save such as are for their welfare. All that this country
desires is to see the neighboring countries stable, orderly, and prosperous. Any country whose
people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship. If a nation shows that it
knows how to act with reasonable efficiency and decency in social and political matters, if it keeps
order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States.

This year of travelling encouraged and influenced Peter into making Russia a great nation. M.S

Negatives Of British Imperialism
Throughout the age of discovery and exploration Britain established colonies and took control over
India, Britain took control in the 17th century and extended their power over India into the 20th
century where it ended[6]. British presence in India lasted centuries and took its toll on India.
Although many positive outcomes came from British imperialism in India, the negative outcomes
outweighed these. The negative effects had a greater impact on the lives of Indian people of all
classes than any of the advantages. The disregard for the wellbeing of India and the exploitation of
its people resulted in great tragedies. There were many advantages of British rule in India, although

The British government had taken their jobs, ignored their needs and on top of that raised their
taxation and made it cash exchange which was far harder for the Indians to pay. Now the
Indians were in debt, it was either pay taxes and keep their land or lose their land and eat. With
the lack of food India was soon corrupted with an abundance of famines such as the Agra famine
of 1837 leaving 800 000 dead, the Rajputana famine of 1869 killing 1.5 million and the great
Bengal famine which killed up to 10 million people[3] The Indian soldiers working for the
British or Sepoys as they were called were also treated with the same level of disregard which
led to them having to act against their religion one of these cases was having to bite the cartridges
of their guns greased with either cow or pig fat, the former being sacred to Hindus and the latter
being seen as unclean by the Muslims. This offense was even seen by some as a ploy to turn the
Indians Christian. To the Sepoys the blatant disinterest and offensive treatment towards their culture
was enough to ignite a mutiny which has been in the running for years and so the Sepoy mutiny
rose, in an attempt to reclaim their rights and stop the westernization of their country the Indians
revolted. The Sepoy mutiny lasted just over a year and did not help the Indian campaign, in fact
the merciless slaughtering of British soldiers and Indian peoples occurred only for the British to

Back in history at this time when Robinson played African Americans weren t treated equally as

Insurance has been an institution of human society for thousands of years, having been by

In India, even from the days of Indus Valley civilization, the provision of taking care of the
dependents of those dying was practiced. Further, the concept of joint family system in itself is a
method of taking care of the dependents of those who die prematurely. In Manu Manav Dharma
Shasthra there are mentions about taking care of the dependents of those dying as also taking care
of people during old age. The term Yogakshema is found in Rig Veda thereby indicating the
existence of some type of joint family system even 300 years ago. In the times of Buddha, mention
about the existence of Burial System is available, thereby indicating the concept of mutual welfare,
which is nothing but the Life Insurance in action.
With the establishment of the Oriental Life Insurance Company, a British firm in Kolkata, the

Judy Garland could be described as the epitome of the Hollywood starlet. She started her career at
a young age and audiences saw her grow throughout her many films with MGM, her grace and
talent never faltering. She was young, spunky and relatable with just the right amount of innocence
needed for the movie screen. She was truly one of a kind, and, although the filmstudios tended to
take advantage of her, she still was able to produce many versatile movies for which she is
universally known today. Garland s first major motion picture, and definitely her most popular in
regards to the present day, was The Wizard of Oz, in which she portrayed Dorothy. Her clip of
Somewhere Over the Rainbow depicted her with not only a youthful innocence, but a voice that
could make any hearts sway. Perhaps it was her voice for which she was most known; even at the

utmost quality. She carried this vocal consistency throughout her entire career, whether it be
through singing a rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that audiences would remember
throughout a lifetime, or by taking on a more mature and reflective piece. Although Garland always

The professional bureaucracy relies for coordination on: * the standardization of skills and its
associated parameters such as design, training and indoctrination. * In professional bureaucracy

Whereas the machine bureaucracy generates its own standards the standards of the professional

Muhammad and his loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later

The Vietnam War On The United States
The Vietnam War is a more frequently and familiar name for the Second Indochina War. It was the
longest war America has fought in. The Vietnam War had an impact on the American people, since
it was the first war to ever be broadcasted on television. The country was able to see what was
happening on the battleground. This war would have lasting effects on the United States and the
nation it divided. The Vietnam war started way before America became involved (1955 1975).
Indochina, which included Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, were all under French colonial rule. The
Vietnam communist nationalist, Vietminh, fought for freedom from the French. The United States
sent resources to France to help them defeat the communist risk. In 1961, when John F. Kennedy
was inaugurated, the Vietnam war was not a substantial issue. However, Vice President Johnson
was sent to Vietnam. Upon his return, he urged Kennedy to grab hold of the conflict. Kennedy
decided to send special forces instead of sending combat troops. Kennedy s secret advisors

This has directly lead to the cost of genome sequencing to sharp decline. Before the project the
cost to map out a human genome was one billion dollars, after the project was completed it had to
decline to ten to 50 million dollars. Now, ten years after the completion of the Human Genome
Project the cost to map out a human genome is only three to five thousand dollars. ( Quantitative
Advances Since the Human Genome Project (HGP) ) This number is predicted to keep declining
as well, in part because of company competition and the increase popularity of genetic mapping.
Another reason is because the National Human Genome Research Institute has new goals to
expand the use of genetic mapping which includes finding ways to lower the cost of genome
sequencing to less than a thousand dollars. It would be a huge feat but a goal the Institute could
manage to realize in the next ten years. ( Decade of Genomics NHGRI Celebrates 10th Anniversary

There was a little unforeseen additional to the National Institutes of Health, which is the Cancer
Genome Atlas. The whole goal of this program is to use genetic mapping to its full potential when
it comes to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The National Cancer Institute
parented with the National Human Genome Research Institute, to conduct a wide spread, large
scale genome sequencing on over twenty different types of cancer.

Georgia O Keefe is a famous American painter who painted beautiful flowers and landscapes.
But she painted these images in such a way that many people believed she was portraying sexual
imagery. O Keefe s depictions of flowers in strict frontality and enlarged to giant scale were
entirely original in character . . . the view into the open blossoms evoked an image of the female
psyche and invited erotic associations. (Joachimides 47) O Keefe denies these allegations and says
that she magnified the scale of the flower only to ensure people would notice them. (Haskell 203)

in the back of her mind. (19) She grew up to be a very strong, independent person and she did not
care if she was judged, as long as she liked who she was. As a result of her father leaving when
she was young, she felt that males were not good enough for her and she developed a strong
sense of feminism. In fact, for awhile, Georgia explored her sexuality and dated predominantly
women for a significant part of her life. This factor did effect her painting, but not in a sexual
way. She painted images that were close ups , allowing you to see deep into them and to be
close to them. She yearned to be close to someone but was afraid to be hurt again. Georgia s non
traditional lifestyle did affect her life, but did not force her to create sexual female images. It may
be more accurate to read her drawings as intimations of a less literal and more profound view of
reality. (Peters 29)
Georgia grew up in a time where people still had little respect for women. A woman s role was to

The Declaration of Independence (1776) embeds the American Dream and declares a promise

not to expensive and not cheap ? Do you want a good job and go to a college that can help you get
that awesome job or even career ? Also do you want a career in medicine? Well if you said, YES to
all these questions well I suggest that you go to Baylor. Why you ask ? Baylor is not as expensive
as most schools and you can get a good education. Baylor has two schools. College of Medicine and
just a Baylor University. I suggest the University because you can do whatever you want. Baylor
has has athletics and more but online I saw that the people that went ... Show more content on

Also, it is good for medicine degrees also. Like I said it is not too cheap and not to expensive
like Harvard . Another reason why Harvard is mostly known for the study of law and it can
become very expensive for a the average person attending college. Attending this school could
ruin your financial plans in the future because you would have to get a lot of student loans.
Harvard is more harder to get in than Baylor. Baylor is like a school for many things. They even
have two schools and more resources. Yet another idea from ,Baylor vs Harvard(2015) is that
Harvard has good training for students.Harvard has higher test scores or MCAT. I understand that
Harvard is a good school but it is very expensive. Also, (for people the live in southwest and
south)it is far away. The relative location is in the upper states Another one of my idea is from
Baylor Med school and Harvard is that it gets very cold in the winter Harvard(29.9*F)
Baylor(55.2*F).That is a difference of 25.3 which is more than 19.5 degrees. Also Baylor gets hot
in the summer Baylor(84.5*F) Harvard(70.9*F).In difference it is 13.4 which is not that
much.Unless you want to

The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A...
Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a
monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are
passed down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and
it has lead to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to
overcome their curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings.
In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the
cause of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further
researches conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed
information (Klug et al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed
that DNA was the material that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes.
Genes are composed of alleles that pass down traits from generation to generation.
Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of
population genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the
frequency of alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic
principles are used to population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given
population. The hardy Weinberg principle is one of these principles.

  • 2. New Orleans By Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur De Bienville... New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. Forty five years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil War in 1861. New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the culture and Jazz music. In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. In 1817, the mayor of New Orleans issued an ordinance which restricted slaves congregation to an area called Congo Square. On Sunday afternoons, men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Depreciation Depreciation of Fixed Assets Depreciation A business may acquire fixed assets such as land, buildings, machinery, office equipment, delivery equipment and natural resources (e.g. a piece if mining land)to help in the process of its operations to earn revenue in order to make a profit. Such assets, by their very nature, provide benefits to the business for more than one financial year or period. In fact, when a business buys a fixed asset at a certain cost (say $10,000), it is actually buying a bundle of service benefits that will be provided by that fixed asset over a period of time in the future (say 10 years). Take, for example, when a wholesaler buys a delivery van, it is in effect buying transporting services for his goods that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calculation of Depreciation It is very difficult to come to the true value of the service benefits provided by a fixed asset that is used up or consumed during an accounting period. Depreciation is at best an estimate, depending on which method we use. It is only after the fixed asset is sold off that we can know for certain how much depreciation should actually have been. Depreciation can be calculated by one of the following methods: 1. The Straight Line or Fixed Instalment method; 2. The Reducing Balance or Diminishing Balance method; and 3. The Revaluation method. Straight Line or Fixed Instalment Method By this method, the fixed asset is assumed to depreciate at equal amount for every year of its expected lifetime. The cost of the asset is spread evenly over its lifetime. Reducing Balance or Diminishing Balance Method By this method, the asset is supposed to depreciate at a fixed percentage of its depreciated value (or book value) at the beginning of each year. The amount set aside for depreciation will diminish with every successive period since the value of the asset at the beginning of every successive period tends to diminish. The main advantage of this method is that in the Profit and Loss Account, the amount of overall expenses charged for the use of a fixed asset would be more or less constant throughout the asset s lifetime. This is because depreciation is only one of the expenses involved. Other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ferguson, the implementation of said mindset in the decision of the Brown v. The Board of Education Supreme Court case, the usage of the due process clause in the 2000 presidential election between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore, and both equal protection clause and de process clause in the more recent case of obergefell v. hodges. First off, Plessy v Ferguson is a prime example for the use of the fourteenth amendment s equal protection clause protecting Homer Plessy, enforcing a separate but equal mindset among the people touched by this court case, and demonstrated the strength of the equal protection clause. Homer Plessy In the 1892 incident, Plessy refused to sit in Jim Crow car (expression meaning Negro, racial segregation directed toward African Americans), breaking Louisiana law. At first the Supreme Court didn t believe his constitutional rights were violated. Their reason behind this is that it was a state law that implies merely a legal distinction between whites and people of color. To them, it did not violate the 13th or 14th amendment. This state law was Louisiana s, the law was about providing separate but equal accommodations for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

El Paso High school is a great example of Corinthian Style architecture that was predominant by the Roman Empirein the years of the Pax Romana. Looking back at the main building lies the main east faГ§ade with its beautiful porch leading up to the main structure. The size and exquisite decor is what takes the mind of the city view and into the past of a revival architecture. Constructed by Henry C. Trost from Trost Trost Architects Engineers, this building serves as a revival evoking memories from Greece and Rome. The faГ§ade itself consists of six shafts or columns which indicate the ionic part of the Corinthian style structure. The Corinthian style capitals are a piece of work; they take the viewer back in time. The Corinthian leaves and beautifully carved flowers are clearly visible as if time had no effect on the buff terra cotta. The detail is acute and precise, to the extent that beautiful is a dull word to describe the vision. The bases of the columns are like a perfect structure that hold a grand shaft that leads to beauty on top. Furthermore, each column is big, no, in fact they are huge, they are elegant in their design and seem to fit one another as they stand side by side. Above the six columns lies the architrave. The architrave is a small part of the structure but fine to the last detail, it is astonishing the level of perfection that was achieved down to the last inch of this structure. • 9. Hip Hop And The Music Genre What is Hip Hop? According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Hip Hop can be delineated as a music genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted.1 Originating from a disparaged subculture in the South Bronx and eagerly spreading through other sectors of New York City during the 1970 s, Hip Hop evolved from formerly being a relatively fraudulent style to currently being a commercialized and disseminated music genre among diverse areas around the globe. Hip hop s evolution into a composition distinct from R B ensued around the time that drum machines and sampling technology became widely available to the general public at a financially affordable cost for the average consumer. Turntablist techniques (i.e. scratching, beat mixing, matching, and beat juggling) ultimately developed along with the breaks, producing a base that could be rapped over, in a manner similar to signifying, as well as percussive breaks (an influence found in Jamaican dub music). The art of manipulating sound and creating illustrious music were few of the techniques that identified the aeon of the hip hop genre: Three of whom will be presented The Diamond Era (1983 1988), The Golden Era (1989 1993), and The Silver Age (1994 1998). An analysis of porters value chain To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is useful to model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the value chain. According to Porter (1985), Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities . Through using the ValueChain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular industry can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below: Upstream Activities Downstream Activities Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. Primary activities are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation, reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive position. Upstream and Downstream A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates. Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production and delivery of the product/service. It depends on the structure of the value system, how this margin spreads across the suppliers, producers, distributors, customers, and other elements of the value system. Each member of the system will use its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opening medication bottles can be difficult for arthritis patients who struggle to open twist lids, snap lids, and click locks. Janet Kramer is an arthritis patient that struggles to open her medicine bottles. This solution uses a sliding mechanism that requires no twisting motion and little force. The mechanism is operated by pulling on a rod, and pushing down. The downwards motion creates a class one lever that uses the shell of the bottle as a fulcrum. The effort force is magnified by a mechanical advantage to lift the cap. This solution will be designed according to design specifications and evaluated with the performance benchmarks. If the concept performs unsatisfactorily, the design process will reiterate until the problem is solved for the stakeholder. Perhaps this means I need to work more on NVC? I m not sure because I also like to think I can politely and correctly communicate with others, usually doing it assertively but in a non violent way. The five key elements of SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) were perhaps a little more natural to me, than using the NVC process, except for Autonomy, which I have only just learned about in this unit. The embargos not only affect the country that are being embargoed, but the effect bleed over the borders to the surrounding countries. The list of countries that have been sanctioned by the United Nations included Russia, North Cyprus, and Cuba. Around these fraction numbers was where the largest elution of protein and likely О± lactalbumin was present. Due to high amino acid content of phenylalanine, tryptophan, and tyrosine, absorbance occurs at 280 nm. The high 280 nm absorbance would suggest a higher amount of protein elution in the fraction. The early fraction numbers had significantly high absorbance between fractions 4 and 9. This was due to quick mobility of the protein through the sephadex column during the size exclusion chromatography before fractions were gathered. The absorbance of the protein fragments: 7, 8, and 9 were all between 0.59 and 0.62. Protein fragments with absorbance values above 0.5 had a noticeable amount of desirable protein within the fraction. The electrophoresis gel was labeled in comparison with a pre stained protein ladder as shown in Figure 2. The 10 kDa served as a base for the accuracy of the other protein ladder measurements. The 17 kDa measurement on the protein ladder was compared with the band values of the protein fractions. О± lactalbumin has a molecular weight of 14.2 kDa. The ethical issues of physician assisted suicide are both emotional and controversial, as it ranks right up there with abortion. Some argue physician assisted suicide is ethically permissible for a dying person who has choosing to escape the unbearable suffering at the end of life. Furthermore, it is the physician s duty to alleviate the patients suffering, which at times justifies providing aid in dying. These arguments rely a great deal on the respect for individual autonomy, which recognizes the rights of competent people to choose the timing and manner of their death, when faced with terminal illness. Others have argued that physician assisted suicide is not ethically permissible, because it contradicts the traditional duty of physician s to preserve life and to do no harm. Furthermore, many argue that if physician assisted suicide is legalized, abuses would take place, because as social forces condone the practice, it will lead to slippery slope that forces (PAS) on the disabled, elderly, and the poor, instead of providing more complex and expensive palliative care. While these arguments continue with no end in sight, more and more of the terminally ill cry out in agony, for the right to end their own suffering. • 36. The Vietnam War On The United States The Vietnam War is a more frequently and familiar name for the Second Indochina War. It was the longest war America has fought in. The Vietnam War had an impact on the American people, since it was the first war to ever be broadcasted on television. The country was able to see what was happening on the battleground. This war would have lasting effects on the United States and the nation it divided. The Vietnam war started way before America became involved (1955 1975). Indochina, which included Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, were all under French colonial rule. The Vietnam communist nationalist, Vietminh, fought for freedom from the French. The United States sent resources to France to help them defeat the communist risk. In 1961, when John F. Kennedy was inaugurated, the Vietnam war was not a substantial issue. However, Vice President Johnson was sent to Vietnam. Upon his return, he urged Kennedy to grab hold of the conflict. Kennedy decided to send special forces instead of sending combat troops. Kennedy s secret advisors reported to him that Aerial spraying of herbicides were used to starve the Vietcong of their food and jungle cover. The president was forced to send more troops. It is a disease where cells becomes abnormal and start to divide uncontrollably and from tumors. A frightening thing to consider is that some forms of cancer do not show side effects until the advanced stages. When the disease is severe, the treatment is also severe and sometimes chemotherapy and radiation do not work. However, there is hope for a better system of cancertreatment that has shown to have a higher chance of succeeding provided by genetic mapping. Now, there is an option to have tumors genetically mapped so that cancer treatments can be more personalized. Also, because of genetic mapping doctors are making connections and have a greater understanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has directly lead to the cost of genome sequencing to sharp decline. Before the project the cost to map out a human genome was one billion dollars, after the project was completed it had to decline to ten to 50 million dollars. Now, ten years after the completion of the Human Genome Project the cost to map out a human genome is only three to five thousand dollars. ( Quantitative Advances Since the Human Genome Project (HGP) ) This number is predicted to keep declining as well, in part because of company competition and the increase popularity of genetic mapping. Another reason is because the National Human Genome Research Institute has new goals to expand the use of genetic mapping which includes finding ways to lower the cost of genome sequencing to less than a thousand dollars. It would be a huge feat but a goal the Institute could manage to realize in the next ten years. ( Decade of Genomics NHGRI Celebrates 10th Anniversary ) There was a little unforeseen additional to the National Institutes of Health, which is the Cancer Genome Atlas. Essay on Georgia OKeefe (includes annotated bibliography) Georgia O Keefe (word count includes annotated bibliography) Georgia O Keefe is a famous American painter who painted beautiful flowers and landscapes. But she painted these images in such a way that many people believed she was portraying sexual imagery. O Keefe s depictions of flowers in strict frontality and enlarged to giant scale were entirely original in character . . . the view into the open blossoms evoked an image of the female psyche and invited erotic associations. (Joachimides 47) O Keefe denies these allegations and says that she magnified the scale of the flower only to ensure people would notice them. When she began creating beautiful artwork in school and was being commended by other teachers and students, she gained an incredible sense of self worth and put her painful childhood in the back of her mind. (19) She grew up to be a very strong, independent person and she did not care if she was judged, as long as she liked who she was. As a result of her father leaving when she was young, she felt that males were not good enough for her and she developed a strong sense of feminism. In fact, for awhile, Georgia explored her sexuality and dated predominantly women for a significant part of her life. This factor did effect her painting, but not in a sexual way. She painted images that were close ups , allowing you to see deep into them and to be close to them. She yearned to be close to someone but was afraid to be hurt again. Georgia s non traditional lifestyle did affect her life, but did not force her to create sexual female images. It may be more accurate to read her drawings as intimations of a less literal and more profound view of reality. (Peters 29) Georgia grew up in a time where people still had little respect for women. A woman s role was to stay home and be a housekeeper. They had no self worth until they were married. So, when women started to get jobs just like their husbands or lived their lives without a husband, people were shocked and most looked down upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Declaration of Independence (1776) embeds the American Dream and declares a promise that all individuals have the right to freedom. Race, social class, and gender do not prevent a person the chance to prosper and aspire their dreams and goals. • 41. The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A... Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are passed down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and it has lead to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to overcome their curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings. In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the cause of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further researches conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed information (Klug et al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed that DNA was the material that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes. Genes are composed of alleles that pass down traits from generation to generation. Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of population genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the frequency of alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic principles are used to population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given population. The hardy Weinberg principle is one of these principles. Hardy ...
