This study analyzed 200 French-speaking physicians on Twitter and found that half used pseudonyms rather than their real names. Male physicians were more likely than females to use their real name (33% of females and 67% of males). While males had more followers and longer tenure on Twitter, females tweeted more frequently. Only half of physicians' tweets related to medicine, and just 10% discussed specific patient cases. The study concluded that due to anonymity and lack of medical focus, Twitter was not an effective way to communicate with most French physicians.
