RENEWABLE POWER
ON OFFSHORE FACILITY

• Prefabricated modular skid designed to be rolled across platform deck using
integrated removable casters, anchored down, and switched on for immediate use by
a team of three men in only a few hours with no power assisted equipment to
accomplish the installation, other than a crane to lift the skids off a delivery boat and
set them on the upper deck of the platform.
• Custom designed to fit existing platform space.
• Large solar array on top of skid unfurls to full size after landing on site; unit shipped in
collapsed configuration to avoid transit damage and eliminate oversize and permit
loads on roadways.
• Operating reliably and virtually maintenance free on unattended station since 2006.

VIDEO PRODUCTION – LITEPIPE BRIDGE LIGHT

• Bridge navigation lights must clearly mark the safe navigation channels and the limits of
navigation to insure safe passage under bridges crossing navigable waters.
• Bridges, especially in urban areas, are fitted with and illuminated by many different lights –
decorative and functional, both on and in the vicinity of the bridge, causing confusion to
mariners trying to positively recognize the bridge navigation lights used to aid in safe
transit under the bridge.
• The extended source Litepipe overcomes these visual challenges and provides a
conspicuous mark that can be easily differentiated from other common lights on or around
bridges.
• Bridge maintenance personnel must be able to service Litepipes without traffic interruption
or extraordinary effort. They are illuminated by an internally situated linear LED engine
that must be easily removed for repair or troubleshooting without the need to dismantle the
entire luminaire from the bridge face. Litepipes range in size from 6 to 20 feet long, and
are in the form of a long slender tube, mounted vertically to the bridge face, visible to
approaching marine traffic. Please see next slide for pictures of Litepipes.

THE VIEW OF LITEPIPES FROM THE SHIP
NIGHT
• The LED engine runs inside the length of the transparent luminaire housing. The LED engine must
be capable of complete disassembly and removal on site when servicing. LEDs mounted on a full
length metal tube are positioned on the central axis of the luminaire by roller assemblies attached to
the metal tube. The length of a segment of LEDs is limited to about 4 feet to make removal and
extraction practical. Removal of the LED engine is somewhat like pulling a dipstick from an engine oil
reservoir. As the LED engine is withdrawn from the top of the luminaire, each section must be
electrically and mechanically disconnected from the remaining LED engine hanging inside the tube.
Long pipes might consist of 3 or 4 LED sections that must be disassembled, one section at a time.
During disassembly, the remaining (assembled) LED engine segments must be captivated once the
exiting section is uncoupled from it to prevent the remaining LED engine/roller assembly from
inadvertently free-falling to the lower end of the pipe, leaving them out of reach. A free-falling LED
engine would make repairs more difficult, and could cause additional damage from the sudden
impact when they hit the bottom of the pipe.
• I developed a special tool to captivate the LED engine as it is removed and dismantled, created and
co-produced an informative and entertaining video to illustrate this operation. Please see next slide.

  • 2. Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Metering Platform RENEWABLE POWER ON OFFSHORE FACILITY Foster L. Faerman
  • 3. • Prefabricated modular skid designed to be rolled across platform deck using integrated removable casters, anchored down, and switched on for immediate use by a team of three men in only a few hours with no power assisted equipment to accomplish the installation, other than a crane to lift the skids off a delivery boat and set them on the upper deck of the platform. • Custom designed to fit existing platform space. • Large solar array on top of skid unfurls to full size after landing on site; unit shipped in collapsed configuration to avoid transit damage and eliminate oversize and permit loads on roadways. • Operating reliably and virtually maintenance free on unattended station since 2006.   • 14. • Bridge navigation lights must clearly mark the safe navigation channels and the limits of navigation to insure safe passage under bridges crossing navigable waters. • Bridges, especially in urban areas, are fitted with and illuminated by many different lights – decorative and functional, both on and in the vicinity of the bridge, causing confusion to mariners trying to positively recognize the bridge navigation lights used to aid in safe transit under the bridge. • The extended source Litepipe overcomes these visual challenges and provides a conspicuous mark that can be easily differentiated from other common lights on or around bridges. • Bridge maintenance personnel must be able to service Litepipes without traffic interruption or extraordinary effort. They are illuminated by an internally situated linear LED engine that must be easily removed for repair or troubleshooting without the need to dismantle the entire luminaire from the bridge face. Litepipes range in size from 6 to 20 feet long, and are in the form of a long slender tube, mounted vertically to the bridge face, visible to approaching marine traffic.   • 17. • The LED engine runs inside the length of the transparent luminaire housing. The LED engine must be capable of complete disassembly and removal on site when servicing. LEDs mounted on a full length metal tube are positioned on the central axis of the luminaire by roller assemblies attached to the metal tube. The length of a segment of LEDs is limited to about 4 feet to make removal and extraction practical. Removal of the LED engine is somewhat like pulling a dipstick from an engine oil reservoir. As the LED engine is withdrawn from the top of the luminaire, each section must be electrically and mechanically disconnected from the remaining LED engine hanging inside the tube. Long pipes might consist of 3 or 4 LED sections that must be disassembled, one section at a time. During disassembly, the remaining (assembled) LED engine segments must be captivated once the exiting section is uncoupled from it to prevent the remaining LED engine/roller assembly from inadvertently free-falling to the lower end of the pipe, leaving them out of reach. A free-falling LED engine would make repairs more difficult, and could cause additional damage from the sudden impact when they hit the bottom of the pipe. • I developed a special tool to captivate the LED engine as it is removed and dismantled, created and co-produced an informative and entertaining video to illustrate this operation.
