The Rules Of Oppression By Friedrich Nietzsche
The Rules of Oppression For this assignment, I was asked to create an essay demonstrating my
knowledge from the semester, by elaborating on the topics discussed in class on philosophers of
morality. The philosopher that maximized my attention was Friedrich Nietzsche. Per Internet
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Nietzsche wrote on on truth, morality, language, aesthetics,
cultural theory, history, nihilism, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence.
(Wilkerson) Nietzsche s work on morality, titled Master and Slave Morality implemented
questions I have pondered in regards to the choice of who controls power in the world, because
it is often that those control power assumed their position by bullying those who pose a threat,
thus inciting an inferior feeling. A question that reoccurred while studying Nietzsche was how
do the people who are forced in to his master/slave complex break free of their master s grips?
The answer to my question is also in Nietzsche s work, and is titled Transvaluation of Values.
Transvaluation of Values occurs when the slave class over throws or resists their masters, (a flip
in power structure) therefore those who are placed in the roll of slaves due to their values, and
beliefs will continue to break free of their oppression, because of the opportunity named
Transvaluation of Values. Within my class room we defined The Master and Slave Morality
System as classifying people in to two categories: master, and slave. Other names for the

Children Should Not Withhold Discipline From A Child
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you
strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol .Proverbs 23:13 14. Spanking children
is used as a form of discipline if brought upon with a valid reason. Peoples opinions may very
because everything has an extent it can be taken to expressly discipline. Disciplining children has
been an widely controversial topic for many years as in the forms, the things used to discipline
children, and the extent. One of the many forms of discipline is positive discipline. Witch focuses
more on encouraging the childinstead of focusing on the punishment. A parent using positive
discipline might sit down with the child and say, I know your teacher wants you to get your
math paper done tonight and you don t want to do it. What can we do to get that paper done so
you ll be able to show Mrs. Smith that you got all your homework done on time? (Morin 1).
Another form of discipline is setting boundaries for your children. Clearly stating the
consequences to the child. You won t be able to use any of your electronics tonight until your
work is done. (Morin 1). Behavior Modification is another disciplinarian action which focuses on
consequences reinforces with praise. Remember, once you get your homework done, you get to
use the computer for 30 minutes. Praise would be offered if the child chooses to comply. The
parent would ignore any protests. (Morin 1). All of these forms of

(Ensayo)

Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism
Environmentalist and Capitalism
The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate
Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the
Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that
Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees
down to build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However,
the Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is
not true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for
our own good.
In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on
China. Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as
much as they usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could
possibly own less cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier
on everyone else and the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the
environment. They do whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they
can get more money. If all Capitalist care about is making more stuff, capitalism may be the best
system ever. But if you want to save the planet from environmental catastrophe our current
economic system is a dead end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Elephants Are Scared Of Mice
Why Elephants Are Scared of Mice
Thousands of years ago in Africa, elephants roamed the Earth without a single worry. Their
immense size and strength had caused them to develop exaggerated pride, overconfidence and the
belief that they were superior to all other creatures. George in particular, was no exception. He was
more egotistic and arrogant than the entire elephant race combined. George only allowed the others
to refer to himself as Master George and was incredibly irritated when smaller creatures would even
glance at him without proper deference.
Due to physical weakness and miniature size, most field mice had grown completely obedient,
cowardly and feeble in character. Elephants such as George would often bully, hurt or even... Show

George the elephant was of the opinion that he there was nobody as attractive or intelligent as
himself. For this reason he presumed that it was a waste of time for him to meet other female
elephants to build a family with. Therefore, George s only task was to find water for himself. Pedro
on the other hand, had recently encountered a stunning female mouse who he cared for a great deal.
Although he was challenged to find enough water for two beings, his size was finally an advantage
due to the fact that mice required less water than larger creatures.
After hours of searching for even the smallest bodies of water, Pedro eventually came across a
sizeable puddle. His hard work had payed off; he was ready to return home to provide water to his
partner. However, in order to continue his journey, Pedro needed several gulps of water himself. As
Pedro drank blissfully, he noticed a large silhouette approaching the puddle. He could recognize this
creature anywhere. It was an elephant.
It didn t take George a long time to discover puddles that had not yet dried. George only needed
to stand on his hind legs to see all the bodies of water around. He would then walk towards the
pond, and proceed to use his long trunk to suck up the remaining water. After having used his
methods on four different puddles, George casually strolled in the direction of the fifth. He was
about to begin consuming the water, when he

Summary Of The Night Sky
It was late, the moon already high in the night sky, all except for George lie sleeping softly in the
bunkhouse. An unfinished game of solitaire, sprawled out across the barn floor. The barn was lit
only by a single red candle on an overturned crate. Next to the candle was an opened red pack of
cigarettes and a dirty brass lighter. Fresh hay was scattered around the cold floor, a job
unfinished. In the corner of the shadowed barn, a spider clung to its web as it slowly devoured a
helpless fly. Curley s wife lay still, untouched, the sight almost had a natural feeling about it, as
though this was all her life was ever to amount to, she lay dead amongst the hay; it was as
thought the others had forgotten about her and merely continued with their dreary lives. A
rusted shovel leaned against the wall, next to a freshly dug mound of earth, covering Candy s
lifeless dog. Lastly, spread across the floor, was a ragged length of cold consuming rope, with a
noose tied in one frayed end. George crouched before the rope, hunched over almost
questioningly, as though judging whether or not this was his best way out of the situation. He
was dirty and unshaven; he had yet not bothered to change from his gloomy, threadbare work
attire. His hair was greasy and unkempt, his facial hair was long and neglected and his face looked
like it had not seen water for many days. His eyes seemed to have sunken in to his head, for they
were carrying heavy bags, he resembled a man who had not slept for

Does Having an Offshore Occupation Have a Detrimental...
RESEARCH QUESTION
The research question under review is;
How does having an offshore occupation impact the family dynamic?
The aim of the study is to investigate whether or not having an offshore occupation has a
detrimental impact on the dynamic of the family, particularly in relation to the spouse and their
children.
BACKGROUND
There appears to be a gap in the literature concerning the adaptions to families whilst the male
role figure is away for weeks at a time, despite major s changes that have occurred across the
industry. However, Parkes et al (2005) looked at the perceptions, attitudes and concerns of spouses
of offshore workers from a psychological perspective. The results presented that spouses have a
number of concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Gibson (2012) believed that children are competent to act as informants regarding their
experiences. Yet, it is important to ensure there are no significant power differences between the
adults and the children. Moreover, it is imperative for the children to understand why they have
been asked to participate and aware that they are allowed to make their own decisions about
participation, hence why an age restriction has been implemented.
The participants will be collected using the purposive sampling method, in environments such as
the work place or social events. The purposive sampling technique was selected as it is an effective
method for collecting participants in qualitative studies. The technique is constructed to allow the
researcher to deliberately select specific persons for their research (Teddie and Yu 2007).
Data Analysis
Focus groups have been renowned for its inherently complex data analysis. It requires an
experienced researcher to identify the themes that have emerged throughout the discussions, to
ensure no bias tailoring has been made to support theoretical assumptions.
Therefore, the data collected from the focus group will be transcribed by the researcher using the
audio recorder. The data will be analysed using thematic analysis which involves identifying and
coding the key themes that have emerged. Thematic analysis is a widely used

Reasons For The Breakup Of The Soviet Union Essay
The breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 left many Eastern European countries in disarray. One
such country was Czechoslovakia. It separated from the Soviet Union December 26, 1991. A few
years after Czechoslovakia broke away from the Soviet Union it broke apart, in January 1, 1993.
The two countries are now The Czech Republicand Slovakia. When the two countries split, it was
done peacefully, without a fight or war. The Soviet Union broke up because Mikhail Gorbachev
resigned from being the president of the Soviet Union. This started many conflicts and confusion.
The Soviet Union could no longer keep the union together.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia were now able to own their own businesses. They could move
freely for jobs and homes. The countries are now able to vote as they wish. They did however
change their language. All countries in the Soviet Union used to speak German. Now Czech is
spoken in the Czech Republic and Slovak is spoken in Slovakia. The national anthem changed,
both countries now have their own. In the Soviet Union the religion was Atheism, and now
Czechoslovakia is free to believe whatever they want. The soviet Ruble was the currency in the
Soviet Union and then it changed to the Czechoslovak Koruna and finally, when Czechoslovakia
split, it changed to Czech Koruna in the Czech Republic and the Euro in Slovakia. The
government in the Soviet Union was dictatorship. Now, a Parliamentary Republic is the form of
government in Slovakia and Czech Republic. Although life after the Soviet Union collapsed was

Why People Have Poor Credit Score
It is kind of surprising that almost fifty percent of people around the world have a poor credit
score. The hard economy crisis boosts this phenomenon, in which the inflation is unavoidable, and
people find it harder to pay their bills on time. Yet, they know that the credit score is very crucial in
determining their financial condition. Without a good credit score, a person is has a low
trustworthiness. For those who have poor credit score, they will face difficulties in getting loans.
Their application can be directly rejected, or they might be urged to pay higher interestrates. If you

The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay
The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as
a show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of
female empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt
and so can we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women,
one which feminism should celebrate (para. 3). I find this understanding of Buffy, both the
character and the series, to be very problematic, and with this paper I aim to undertake a revised
feminist critique of the show, and expose the Buffyverse as the product of a very traditional
patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Buffy and her friends discover this, Dawn has a number of unnerving experiences, in which
people walk up to her staring, saying There s nothing there, you re not real, there s nothing there .
Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman .
Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider
Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has
often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie:
It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt
bad for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun,
she had sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that
image, that scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley.
And the monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6)
Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher
genre, I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing
the fetishised female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is
still fun, she is still sexual, she is still Barbie with

Essay On How To Solve The Sparse Approximate Dft Problem
The first work that tried to solve the sparse approximate DFT problem can be found in
cite{NYN93}, in which they designed an algorithm based on Hadamard Transform, i.e. the Fourier
transform over the Boolean cube. A polynomial time algorithm to interpolates a sparse polynomial
was developed in cite{Y95}. The method in this paper inspired the authors of cite{GMS05}, in
which they described an algorithmthat can be used to approximate DFT when $N$ is a power of 2.
In the early 2000s, people paid a lot of attention to the sparse approximation problem in Fourier
space. The first algorithm with sub linear runtime and the sub sampling property was given in
cite{GGIMM02}. In which they give a randomized algorithm with runtime poly($s, log N,... Show

However, it needs to point out that the runtime of the algorithm in cite{AGS03} has a high
dependence on sparsity compare with cite{GGIMM02} and cite{GMS05}.
All the SFT algorithms above are randomized algorithms. This means they have small probability to
fail to give the correct or optimal recovery on each input signal. Thus, they are not appropriate for
long lived failure intolerant applications. The first deterministic sub linear time SFT algorithm was
developed in cite{I08} based on the deterministic Compressed Sensing results of Cormode and
Muthukrishnan (CM)cite{RSR69}cite{CM05}cite{CM06}. A simpler optimized version of this
algorithm was given in cite{I10}, which has similar runtime/sampling bounds ($mathcal{O}(s^2
log ^4 N)$) to the one in cite{GMS05}. Later, in cite{I11}, a further modified SFT algorithm was
provided. It showed simple methods for extending the improved sparse Fourier transforms to higher
dimensional settings. More specifically, the algorithm can find the near optimal $s$ term
approximation for any given input function, $f: [0,2pi]^{D} rightarrow C$ in $mathcal{O}(s^2
D^4)$ time (neglecting logarithmic factors). The algorithms in cite{I08}cite{I10}cite{I11} are
all aliasing based search algorithm cite{indyk_overview}, which means they rely on the
combinatorial properties of aliasing among frequencies in sub samples DFTs. The algorithms

one point in the movie, he is lying on the floor, unable to move due to the drugs effects on his
body. Even though the movie is set in the 90 s, a decade infamous for its use of drugs, today, drug
usage and abuse has never been more of an issue. According to Alice Park (2016), More people
died of drug overdoses in 2014 in the U.S. than in any other year (p.49). What people fail to realize
is that drug abuse effects more than just the individual that uses them. The loved ones trying to
support the user, the community the user is in, can all be affected by drug abuse. In fact, all
members of society are affected by the abuse of drugs. In short, no one benefits from drug abuse.
In the words of the Nation Institute of Drug Abuse, Drug abuse is a major public health problem
that impacts society on multiple levels. Directly or indirectly, every community is affected by drug
abuse and addiction, as is every family. Drugs take a tremendous toll on our society at many levels
( Magnitude, 2016).
Obviously, drugs abuse has the most effect on the individual. Drugs of any sort have pronounced
impacts on a user s personal life, mental and physical health as well as their

Blue Baby Syndrome Case Analysis
To receive recognition, you must find a reasonable answer that can prove that the impossible can
be done. Before the heart surgery, it was the rule of law that you can not touch the heart since it
can ruin the flow of blood and it can cause a mortality rate. Doctor Blalock challenged this theory
with his partner Vivien Thomas and his colleagues working together to break this case. With both
Vivien s and Doctor Blalock s knowledge of the heart, they managed to cure the Blue Baby
Syndrome to prove to the other doctors that their theory can be proven. Vivien should have been
recognized also because he was the only black surgical technician that he actually contributed to the
cause. However, Doctor Blalock was receiving all of the fame and popularity

Compare And Contrast Chopin And Dunbar
Introduction: How did Chopin and Dunbar respond to the turmoil in their lives and society.
As the oppression of slavery died out, a new age began to dawn of both technology and
economics, also a new age also dawned for poets, writers, and the everyday person. The people
of this age would experience something new from these poets and writers, no longer taking the
people to a far away place, a place where starving, suffering, everyday life, doesn t exists; no these
poets would take their readers to their neighbors and maybe even themselves, show them the things
we didn t want to see. Chopin who was one of these writers, wrote about the oppression of women,
the forced marriages, eternally serving, no freedom, and their eternal suffering. As ... Show more

Dunbar wrote about his hero Douglass, a person who stood up against the oppression of slaves, and
black people. And Chopin, wrote about Mrs. Mallard. A womanwho even frail, suffered everyday.
Not being able to experience her own world, locked in a mental cage that was her marriage. So,
with Dunbar rising in fame, for his stories about the suffering and disillusionment of the African
American experience, he would meet Frederick Douglass, a famous African American lecturer,
editor, and leader. They both thought very highly of each other, so the poem written by Dunbar
named Douglass was a cry for help from his long dead friend. Dunbar writes, Oh, for thy voice
high sounding o er the storm, for thy strong arm to guide the shivering bark, the blast defying
power of thy form, to give us comfort through the lonely dark. Dunbar wishes for Douglass to
come help his people of this time, to be their loud voice again, to use his strong to guide our
shivering souls to a better place, and to be a hero once again. So with the suffering a people, we
turn to the suffering of a gender. Kate Chopin whose writings were mostly about women of the
time, wrote the short story, The Story of an Hour. A story about a women Mrs. Mallard. Where
unexpectedly, one day her husband died in a train crash, and when she found out she wept, with
the feeling of sudden abandonment in her heart, yet as she grieved the loss of her husband, she
felt a feeling that had long been forgotten. She was beginning to recognize this thing that was
approaching... she said it over and over under her breath free, free, free!. She no longer had to
suffer with her life, she could be free from the chains of marriage. Both Douglas and Mrs. Mallard
are people of likeable characteristics, giving the people who read their story a sense of hope and

The Early History Of Islam
THE EARLY HISTORY OF ISLAM
Lily Grote
HUM 2020: Introduction to the Humanities
December 1st, 2015
The history of the Islamic religion begins in 610 C.E., with Muhammad ibn Abdallah, a merchant
who every year during the month of Ramadan would retire to a cave on the summit of Mount Hira,
just outside Mecca in the Arabian Hijaz, where he prayed, fasted and gave alms to the poor. This
was a common practice for many Arabs in the peninsula. Muhammad was a merchant, a member of
the tribe Quraysh which had become quite wealthy trading among bordering countries. The
Quraysh were focused on accumulating more wealth but at the expense of the tribe s poorer family
groups, known as clans.
A spiritual restlessness had become apparent among many of the Arab countries, as they knew
that Judaism and Christianity were more refined than the Arab s own pagan customs. Many
Arabs began to believe that they were left out by al Lah (the High God of their pantheon, literally
meaning the God ) because they were not sent a prophet or scripture such as Jesus, the Bible, or
the Torah in that of the Christian and Jewish religions. Muhammad himself had most likely never
heard of the Christian prophets. Oftentimes, the Jews and followers of Christ taunted the Arabs for
not being a part of the divine plan. On the 17th day of Ramadan, 610 C.E., Muhammad awoke
from his slumber by an overpowering presence that squeezed him so tightly that the word of a new
Arab scripture fell from his

Conventional Control And Artificial Control
Conventional control methods cannot achieve the desired speed tracking with good accuracy in
case of sudden disturbance and parameter variations. This problem can be alleviated by
implementing advanced control techniques such as adaptive control, variable structure control,
fuzzy control and neural network [66].Fuzzy control theoryusually provides nonlinear controllers
that are capable of performing different complex nonlinear control action even for uncertain
nonlinear systems [67]. Unlike conventional control designing, a FLC does not require precise
knowledge of the system model such as the poles and zeroes of the system transfer function [68].
A fuzzy logic control system based on expert knowledge database needs less calculations, but it
lacks sufficient capacity for the new rules [1]. So, the combination between fuzzy and PID
controller where the role of the fuzzy controller is to tune the PID controller parameters according
to the error and change of error might be a good alternative compared to conventional PID control
[45] and [67].
It is appropriate for speed control applications. FLC is very suitable for the controlled object with
characteristics of large delay, large inertia, non linear and time variant [28].
In this chapter we applied two techniques of control. The first control technique is self tuning fuzzy
PID controller which shows a good performance compared to conventional PID controller. The
second technique is apply fuzzy logic based on fractional order

The Effects Of Soil Contamination On The Environment
In the world we are living in today, with a growing population of approximately 7 billion, demands
on fossil fuels are now greater than ever. Although innovative research on green energy sources
have flourished during the past years, fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy in the
world. Methods of extraction and storage for crude oils can become detrimental to the environment
if not properly handled. Starting from marine spills, to leakage of underground storage tanks, these
anthropogenic activities intoxicate soil and water bodies impacting both terrestrial and aquatic life.
However, through a natural process called bioremediation, microbes are able to degrade toxic
pollutants and even result in the complete restoration of contaminated sites. This paper will focus
mainly on bioremediation of oil contaminated soils.
Introduction
Soil contamination occurs when an excessive amount of a substance is present in the soil at higher
than normal concentration without necessarily causing any direct harm (Vance, Pierzynski, Sims,
1994). Soil contamination can lead to soil pollution, which is the evolution of soil contamination,
causing some type of direct harm; thus a soil can be contaminated but not polluted (Vance et al.,
1994). In most cases, oil contaminated soils have some type of direct or indirect negative
consequences on the environment. Crude oils, when found in little to excessive amount, can
destroy ecosystems and impact human health. A thorough description of

Hdb Flats Advantages And Disadvantages
It is no secret that HDB housing is a popular choice in Singapore, making up 80 percent of all
housing with 80 percent of those residents owning their own homes, according to the Housing
and Development Board s website. Property websites such as Property Guru list thousands of
HDB flats available for both sale and rent throughout Singapore. Clearly there is a lot of choice
and availability for HDB flats. But it is also clear that before making a decision on a flat, you
should consider all of the benefits and risks together. The HDB system is set up with the intent of
eliminating as many of these risks as possible, but these are still some to keep in mind when
looking at HDB flats:

Minimum Occupation Period
One measure of the HDB is the minimum occupation period (MOP), which currently states that
residents must remain in HDB flats for a minimum of five years. While this does guarantee long
term housing for those who need it and make it easier to set up a permanent home, it is less
convenient for people who must travel frequently for their work, whose job or finances are
unstable, or are only looking for a temporary home (e.g. university students). It is impossible to
predict what will happen in the future so if your long term plans aren t fixed, you don t want to
be tied down to a mortgage, or you want more flexibility to move if your home isn t right for you,
then it might be best not to consider a HDB flat.
4.Restrictions for Foreigners
Immigrants moving to Singapore are eligible to rent HDB flats for cheap rates, but there are more
restrictions put upon them to do so. According to Expat Singapore, foreign residents must meet the
following criteria to gain a HDB house through the scheme:
Be a working professional or at least have high labour skills, a degree, or be in education.
Not have been working in Singapore for more than two years.

Perfume, By Patrick Suskind Essay
As a German writer, the reason for which Patrick Suskind wrote his critically acclaimed novel,
Perfume, in a French setting, about the French, is questionable. However, candidate answers lie in
the setting of the novel itself. Mid 18th century France, which is adjacent to Suskind s Germany,
harboured not only a national, but global revolution of politics, economics, and social norms
through the French reforms. This had plentiful influence on all aspects of Prussia since the late
17th century (when Germany was known as Prussia) to the present. This stepping stone to a change
in practicality lied in the French Revolution and the change of identity that it instilled upon the
populace. An exploration of Grenouille and perfume in Perfume reveals their symbolism of the
critical transition from religious prominence, to humanistic considerations, to nihilistic extremes
that ensued national and global chaos after the French Revolution to represents its influence on
Germany and its constituent populace.
Perfume s mid 18th century setting boasts a religious presence through the Kingship rights
employed by Roman Catholic Church doctrines, that was gradually diminishing due to an Age of
Enlightenment paradigm shift and an introduction of humanistic and nihilistic views from the
French Revolution. In past and present days, perfume has been a symbol of religion and divine
transcendence. Incense is often depicted as a transcendent connection to God in the form of smoke
and scent,

Genesis 6-13 Research Paper
As a descendant of Adam and Eve, Noah was both a blameless and righteous man who faithfully
walked alongside the Lord. Unlike the others in his generation, Noah did not allow the wickedness
to enter into his own life, and God sought favor in this. Genesis 6: 13 reveals the discussion
between God to Noah, revealing his plan to destroy every living thing under the heavens due to
the violence that seeps in the lives of all creations. The Lord instructed Noah to build an ark out
of cypress wood, accommodating the dimensions of forty five feet long, seventy five feet wide,
and forty five feet high. One the construction was completed the Lord revealed the occupants of
the ark. The individuals chosen to accompany Noah during the flood were his wife, Noah s three
sons and their wives, along with a single pair of all unclean animals, and seven pairs of all clean
animals. The Lord then instructs Noah and his occupants to enter into the ark, affirming, Seven

Enlightenment Era Research Paper
The Enlightenment is marked as a period in time that challenged people to think for themselves.
While it did not mean removing a belief in God from a person s life, it usually meant refraining
from reliance on God and instead relying on oneself. Prior to the Enlightenment, there stood few
influential people in America who branched away from the Puritan lifestyle; however, that quickly
changed as changed during the Enlightenment period. J. Hector St. John de CrГЁvecoeur, Benjamin
Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Thomas Paine were important figures in the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries who exhibited an enlightened way of thinking, which helped to inspire the

In his writings, he eloquently shared the enlightened idea of individual thought and liberty.
Jefferson wrote of the self evident truths ...that all men are created equal and have inalienable

and the pursuit of happiness endorsed the idea that when a person is able to determine their own
pursuits through their individual ability, they are able to discover their individual liberties. In
addition, the Enlightenment s ideology coursed through Thomas Jefferson s vision of a
government formed by deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (663).
Jefferson and his peers believed in the liberal political thought that the people formed the
government, which was answerable to those they represented. Jefferson eschewed the idea of
absolute authority and tyrannical rule as he wrote, that whenever any form of government
becomes destructive...it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it. (663). He relayed the
enlightened intellectual s belief that it is the duty of the people to dispose of despotic regimes
(663). Of Particular interest is the idea that Thomas Jefferson and many American colonists
ascribed heartily enough to the progressive ideas of individualism and freedom that they were
willing to go against their governing

Personal Land Ethic Essay

My personal definition of land is a substance in which animals and humans utilize by physically

their heart and is willing to protect completely. When combining both personal definitions of land
and ethic, I define land ethic as viewing land with the utmost respect, feeling passionate and taking
action toward sustaining or benefiting the lands natural state. When comparing my definition of
land ethic to Aldo Leopold s definition, it is evident to see that we are both thinking similarly.

The Anti Hypertensive Properties Of Doxazosin
Pharmacology
Doxazocin is an alpha adrenoceptor blocking drug and it is used in both hypertension and benign
prostatic hyperplasia (Joint Formulary Committee, 2014). For the purpose of this essay, the main
focus will be on the anti hypertensive properties of Doxazosin.
Selective О±1 antagonists work on the post synaptic О±1 adrenoreceptors predominantly found in
vascular smooth muscle. These receptors are normally bound by norepinephrine or epinephrine to
mediate regulation of the cardiovascular system by the sympathetic nervous system. As can be seen
in Figure 1, these receptors are bound to Gq proteins which have two signal transduction pathways.
One of the pathways forms IP3 (Inositol triphosphate) which then stimulates the release of Calcium
from the sarcoplasmic reticulum in a cardiac monocyte (Klabunde, R.E., 2013). The release of
calcium then stimulates contraction in the heart. By selectively inhibiting these adrenoceptors,
vasodilation occurs which in turn causes a decrease in arterial pressure (Rang and Dale).
With a mean half life of 22 hours (Martindale, 2013), Doxazosin is considered to be a long acting
hypertensive drug. This means that it can be administered once daily, rather than multiple times.
With a good absorption when administered orally, the maximum plasma concentration happens two
to three hours after a dose (Martindale, 2013). It also states that doxazosin is roughly 98.3% bound
to plasma, which means that it has an excellent distribution around

The Correlation between Crime and Poverty Essay
A violent crime occurs every 23.5 seconds in the United States of America. Even though crime has
been at a low during the past decade, violence is still prevalent in today s society. Most of these
crimes happen in places that are socio economically disadvantaged. There then is the debate of
whether violent crimeis associated with environments struck with poverty. There is a correlation
between violent crimes and poverty because of the unemployment rates in major cities, the culture
of poor areas, and drugs.
There are three components that must be looked at before carrying on. They are: poverty, social
inequality, and relative depravation. Poverty is defined according to an economic standard. The
income deemed necessary to meet basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These cities are also among the list of cities with the highest rates of unemployment. Los Angeles:
9.2 %, Chicago: 9.1%, New York: 7.9%, to name a few (Statistics).
Why would anyone follow the right way if you see your parents did so and are still jobless? This
is a problem all over the world evident by demonstrations such as the Occupy movement, the
Brazil protests, the protests in Greece, etc. These protestors are still voters and this causes a
divide in a nation, hence the escalated instability and violence. Another big contributor is that of
discrimination. If the majority of the poor in the US are black and brown, and poverty leads to
crime, then most of the criminals will be black and brown. This is the case wherever the criminals
are the poor ones.
It can be argued that the right way is to get an education. Some say education leads to a more
civilized person and in turn the violence is reduced. A free education does not guarantee that a
child will go on to go to college. Some personally do not like the idea of any post secondary
schooling. Others can say that the majority of black and brown criminals suggest problems within
the social structures of those certain ethnic groups. This association with an ethnic group is worse
when the word criminal implies a moral value. The mass incarceration tactics targets the black and
brown population of the US and that is a huge issue.

Abstract
Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid,
or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to
be heard. It is produced when something vibrates causing its the medium (water, air, etc.) around
it to vibrate as well. In common everyday speech, speed of sound refers to the speed of sound
waves in air. Sound travels faster in liquids and non porous solids than it does in air. In this
experiment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wavelength of the sound produced was computed. 2 more trials were made and the average
wavelength was computed. By using the average wavelength and the frequency engraved in the
tuning fork, the velocity of sound in air inside the glass tube was compted. The temperature was
then determined and the speed of sound was then computed.
Activity 2:
The vernier microphone was connected to channel 1 of the interface. The microphone was
positioned near the open end of the close tube. The file 24 speed of sound in physics with
computer file was opened. The data collection begins after the snapping the fingers or clap your
hands near the tube. The time interval between the start of the first vibration and the start of the
echo vibration was determined using the graph. The speed of sound was then computed by dividing
the length of the tube by ВЅ of the time interval obtains in step 5. The % error was then computed.
Activity 3:
A thin layer of cork dust as uniformly as possible inside the kundt s tube was placed. The rod was
then clamped at its center. The rod was rubbed with a piece of cloth with coarse poweder. This will
set the rod into vibration producing a sound of high frequency. A standing wave pattern will be
formed in the cork dust inside the glass tube. The distances between two consecutive displacement
nodes were measured. The average distance was computed. The frequency of sound produced was
determined. Using the computed frequency,

The Importance Of English As The Official Language
During the early 1500s America was pillaged by several European foreigners; for example, the
Spanish, French, and British. However, there were tens of thousands of people already occupying
America. When Europeans first invaded, over 300 languages were already being spoken and
taught by over 562 different tribes. All of these languages were extremely complex and distinct,
none of these languages being English. After colonization many of these languages became extinct,
even today they are becoming less and less used; thus, wiping away what is left of Native
American culture and language. Many American citizens argue that as a nation, English should be
recognized as the official language. Even though the majority of people in America speak or
understand English, legally placing this as the nation s language will have several negative
consequences. For people who side on making it the official language, they feel that communicating
with be easier and that allowing there to be no official language will erase American culture. Not
only are those statements not true, but they can also be deemed as xenophobic and racist.
Constitutionally setting English as the official language can not only promote xenophobia, it can
also erase minority culture; moreover, English was not the first or only language spoken in America
when it was first being colonized. Native Americans created their own life, culture, and language

The Burden Of Knowing That People Around Me
From the very beginning of my life there has always been the burden of knowing that people
around me do not want me to succeed. I was always taunted by my classmates throughout my

situation. Being raised in Historic Bristol, where it is said to be a great place to raise a family
due to the communal environment, was not so great. This town is very small and families have

Everything I experienced, while growing up, has taught me many lessons and gave me the
power to push through the biggest challenges of my life. These experiences has helped assemble
the attitudes needed to help me be a successful person in the world and to be a positive light in
the lives of others, who might not have the resources to make a powerful change. Joyce Meyer
once said, There are some hurts that we experience that can be forgiven but we can t forget them.
I have always learned to remember where you came from because those events can form and
lesson that can help me and others throughout life. Throughout my entire life, I had to work for
everything that I needed as a teenager. These jobs were not easy and many times I would have to
come back home very sore. This jobs provided me with something very different from school. That
was diversity. My first job had many people from India and after working with them I began to
connect with them and learned about their culture. Although there was a significant language
barrier, I still learned about their culture and this experience helped me shape a different
perspective of the world. At my second job, I noticed that there were many hispanic people and

Cultural Relativism Is Important For Many Reasons
Cultural Relativism is defined as, The principle that an individual s beliefs and activities should
be understood by others in terms of that individual s own culture . Wilson talked about this term
extensively in his class and he noticed a common trend within his classroom. The trend was that
his students warned him, Not to be judgmental or to impose your values on other people. (Soccio
2007). This is a common trend found with a lot of people in my opinion. In fact, I have the same
belief as many of Wilson s students. Cultural relativismis important for many reasons. First, having
a sense of cultural relativism provides people with a form of tolerance towards other cultures.
Second, it helps people understand acts or actions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When these two cultures were told any other way of disposing of their dead, they were completely
shocked and almost disgusted (Rachels 2015). This helps support the fact that different cultures
have different practices and therefore different moral codes. Furthermore, if different cultures have
different moral codes and practices that are based on their own personal culture, another culture
should not be able to judge them, simply because they are unique to that culture. Tolerance is
another good quality that comes with cultural relativism. Tolerance helps us have a sort of
explanation on why other cultures act the way they do. It gives the reason of an action or act
being based on one s culture rather than because of the type of individual that they are. Take a
cultural group such as the Eskimos. The Eskimos believe in and practice infanticide throughout
their villages (Rachels 2015). This practice is considered highly wrong in American cultures, but
is considered morally acceptable in cultures like the Eskimo (Rachels 2015). What a lot of
people forget to take into account is the reason the Eskimos perform infanticide. It is not because
they are cruel people, no, it is because they are thinking about the possible future life of the child
and the future life of their village. Another baby is simply another mouth to feed, a task which can
be difficult for some Eskimo families. Therefore, in order to prevent a bad life for the baby

Physician Assisted Suicide

Dr. Dietrich
Long Research Paper
Assisted Suicide In the medical field there are massive amounts of treatments for various diseases.
Some treatments are going to help the patient feel more comfortable; however, some are going to
counteract the problem, and others are going to help kill the patient. Physician assisted suicide is
defined by medterms.com as the voluntary termination of one s own life by administration of a
lethal substance with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician. Any person wishing to
undergo assisted suicide in Oregon must be at least 18 years of age and have a terminal illness.
This illness must be within its final stages and leave the patient with less than six months to live. ...

Ultimately physician assisted suicide goes against moral and ethical judgment that is placed
within the hands of a practicing physician. Moral behavior of a murderer is considered lacking
in many cases, but how are physicians who administer a lethal dosage of drugs any different?
There are many physicians who are participating in assisted suicide, but they all have lives
within their hands. They are responsible for the lives they have been entrusted with. In Norway
any physician that helped with assisted suicide was charged with accessory to murder. In the
United States there are many laws regarding murder, but accessory to murder is also a charge. A
person who is considered an accessory to murder is not typically present at the scene of the crime,
but contributes to the success of the crime before or after the fact. This statement creates a
controversial wave within the country. Those physicians who are prescribing deadly doses of
medication are knowingly providing a means to kill someone. Even though the physician does not
administer the drugs themselves, the patient is still being killed because of the physician s
prescription. The immorality of prescribing lethal drugs may be heavily felt by the prescribing
physician after administration. Many physicians are affected by the

How Social Control Theory Affects Criminal Behavior
How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Mason Campbell
Barge 900259391 University of North Georgia Criminology 11/17/14 How Social Control
Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Social control theory and life course
theory focus on people s lives and how they interact with one another. The basic idea of the life
course theory is that people s life experiences, both good and bad, determine what kind of person
that they will be later in life. This does not mean that just because a person who had a good
childhood, lived in a wealthy home, and had good parents, will continue to be a good person.
The same can be said for people who had a bad childhood. Children who got in fights and
disrespected authority figures may not continue to do that later on in life. A life course theorist
would say this is because there are turning points in these people s lives that they go through.
These turning points cause a person to change their current life course (Siegel, 2013, p. 305). For
example a teenage boy who, regularly attends school, stays active in his community, and has good
grades, decides to celebrate his success by smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol with some
friends. The police show up and arrest the young man for drug possession and underage drinking.
Now the young man has a criminal record and waste some of his time in jail. He loses his
scholarships, the trust of his community, and the respect of his parents. This

Essay On The Doll Test
After Martin Luther King Jr. s assassination, white people did not understand what African
Americans had to go through during this time. The main issue was the disconnection between what
whites knew about the racism and what the black had experienced. The Doll Test implemented by
the two Doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark were interviewing throughout this experience African
Americanchildren who could choose between four different types of skin colored dolls. The
alarming results were that the majority of children prefer to choose the white doll, which they
indicate as something good and positive. Dr. Kenneth Clark recalled: The Dolls Test was an
attempt on the part of my wife and me to study the development of the sense of self esteem in
children. We worked with Negro children I ll call black children to see the extent to which their

Taa 18-22 Case Study
The Army has already established the need for maintaining an operational reserve, through former
and current TAAs, capable of breaching AC capability gaps to meet joint force requirements.
However, the analysis lacks resources to accomplish this guidance effectively. The demand for RC
forces requires generating more operational unit readiness to fully complement the rotational force
pool to meet the deployment demand at the same standard as the AC. After conducting a Doctrine,
Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities and Policy
(DOTMLPF P) analysis, both overarching recommendations address an identified capability
requirement and associated capability gap that could be mitigated with a non materiel solution with
changes or existing capabilities in five, organization, training, personnel, facilities, and policy, of the
eight functions.
Recommendation: Maintain current RC force structure capacity and capabilities highlighted in
TAA 18 22 in order to preserve the capacity of an operational reserve to meet Army s joint
capability requirements.

To implement the recommendations the organization needs to maintain the currentforce mix and
capability distribution currently allocated in TAA 18 22 and future TAA 20 24 must maintain a
balanced force that would provide necessary flexibility to maintain an operational reserve. In spite
of recent force turbulence, the current force sizing and rebalance initiatives should stabilize RC
formations to preserve the Army s strategic depth while providing enough balance to complement
operational capabilities across all components. The current force mix and structure appears to meet
current joint demands and the RC cannot afford to reduce the already lean force if they are to keep
up with the operational demand. Leveraging the operational reserve current capacity is more
responsive and less costly than generating new

The Jacobin Uprising
Within the new French Legislative Assembly, the onetime allies turned political rivals the
Girondins and the Jacobins competed for power. Both began in favor of a French republic, but
differed in their methods of obtaining that goal. The Girondins favored a slower peaceful path to
abolishing the monarchy, which the radical Robespierre referred to as ineffectual (Robespierre
1910). The Jacobins favored the swiftness of violence (Ibid). Following the suspension of the
monarchy, National Guardsmen were sent to prisons across Paris searching for traitors, (McPhee
2012). Anyone adamantly pro revolution was deemed against it by the radical Jacobin group known
as the Mountain.

Lenin s cries for the Soviet to seize control of the government were therefore intended mainly to
arouse indignation in both the Provisional Government and in his less radical Soviet allies
(Ibid). Accordingly, although Lenin arrived in Petrograd in April 1917, the violence marking his
rise to power did not begin until mid June (Ibid). The Provisional Government s latest attack
against Germany was a military disaster and the army refused to follow further orders to the front
(Riordan 1964). Soldiers and laborers alike started violent protests, demanding all power to the
Soviets, (Ibid). Lenin and the Bolshevik party disowned the violence and the protests stopped
shortly thereafter (Ibid). Nevertheless, Lenin was forced to flee the country while Leon Trotsky
was arrested for the violent revolts which marked the July Days (Wade 2000).
During the French Revolution, violence once again marked a distinct change in tone. The final
severing with the Legislative Assembly s final severing with the former monarchical government
occurred on January 21, 1793 when a narrow majority vote ordered Louis XVI s execution (Doyle
2002). Ironically, Robespierre voted in favor in spite of his previous opposition to the death
penalty. But as the Reign of Terrorto com rolled out of control, he became more vocally supportive
of guillotine executions for traitors to the

Trans Fats And Its Effects On Human Health
Partially hydrogenated oils: These types of oils have the purpose of giving a longer shelf life to
food and giving more stability to oils that are usually liquid at room temperature. By partially
hydrogenating certain oils, food industries can make liquid oils solid and sustain a food s flavor
and the length it can remain on shelves. This types of oil, PHOs, make up most of the artificial
trans fats in many foods. PHOs are created by chemically altering the chemical bonds of the oils
by adding hydrogen molecules to create a solid oil. This type of oil has a negative impact on
human health and the FDA recently decided that PHOs were regarded as not generally
recognized as safe for human consumption. Since PHOs are the main source of trans fats in
American s diets, they have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease that could lead to
heart attacks and death. Hydrogenated oils: Like partially hydrogenated oils, hydrogenated oils
are used to create solids out of naturally liquid oils to lengthen the life of products. Adding these
oils to food also acts as a preservative for foods and improve texture and taste. Hydrogenated oils
are created by heating them at high temperatures for several hours, then adding a metal catalyst that
creates the denser, thicker substance used in foods. The molecule of the fatis straightened by adding
bonds. These oils are also shown to contribute to higher blood pressure levels and higher
cholesterol levels in humans. Since these types of

Assessment And Data Driven Instruction
Assessment: What is it good for? Rationale Assessment and data driven instruction are a vital part
of teaching. Assessments are used frequently to guide the proceeding lessons. I am interested in
learning more about the different types of assessments and the appropriate uses of each. I think it is
critical as a future teacher to have many resources to back up my techniques, especially with the
growing interest in data and tracking students progress. Gathering information about assessments
will allow me to broaden my own techniques and strategies that I use in the classroom, more
specifically the ways in which I grade and provide feedback on assessments so that students can use
that feedback in a positive way. In my past experiences I have noticed my cooperating teachers
providing grades on all assessments with no feedback because they want the students to correct
their own mistakes. This may work on summative assessments but I think that there needs to be
comments on formative assessments so that students know how to correct their mistakes for the
end of the unit tests. Literature Review Introduction Assessment is defined as any practice or task
that is used to produce information about student learning, and is categorized as either formative or
summative (Wallace White, 2014). There is a distinct difference between the various types of
assessments, specifically formative and summative. Formative assessments are informal quizzes
that are used to guide instruction

Key Importance Of Friendship In Harry Potter And The...
Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone emphasises the importance of friendships. Share your
ideas. Firstly loyalty is important because Harry and Ron and loyal to Hermione when she is in

the better. Thirdly support is important because when Harry is in trouble and when their friends
are feeling down he and his friends need friends support to cheer them up and get them back on
track. Harry, Ron and Hermione are loyal to each other and show the key importance of loyalty.
Ron, Hermione and Harry are loyal to each other and show the key importance of loyalty, when
Ron and Harry sacrifice themselves for Hermione.
Harry and Ron show loyalty to Hermione when Harry and Ron save Hermione from the troll in
the girl s bathroom. Hermione then shows loyalty to Ron and Harry when Professor Snape
questions them and Hermione lies for them. Hermione lies to the teacher by saying she ...went
looking for the troll... , when she didn t go looking for the troll and Ron had made her upset,
making her run away to the girls bathroom and the troll found her. She still lied for Ron and
Harry to keep them out of trouble. Hermione is a good student and would never disobey the rules
but she lies for her new friends. Hermione was the last person to do anything against the rules. .
Ron and Harry break a rule by not following instructions to go back to their house Gryffindor
when they were told to so they put themselves in danger. They do this for Hermione because they
hurt her previously. They all make sacrifices for each other and this kick starts their new friendship
with each other with loyalty and trust because when you are loyal to your friends and always
there for them you gain their trust and loyalty in return. Ron and Harry broke a rule for Hermione
and so Hermione broke a rule for them.
They show the key importance of loyalty by putting others before themselves to protect each other
when they are in trouble or unsafe. Loyalty is important because with no loyalty you have no trust
and you can t depend on each other to be there when you need each other.
Change is important in a friendship because you need to help each other grow,

Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
The Victorian period in American history spawned a certain view of women that in many ways has
become a central part of gender myths still alive today, although in a diluted way.
In this essay, some characteristics of this view of women, often called The Cult of True Womanhood
, will be explored with reference to Thomas R. Dew Dissertation on the Characteristic Differences
Between the Sexes (1835). Some of the feminist developments arising in conflict with this ideal
will also be traced. Then, in accordance with my view that literature and culture is often
interrelated, I will proceed by with an analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow
Wallpaper as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, it was believed that this was so, and some explained this as an expression of
gratitude for the civilizing effect religion had had on them! This is of course connected with the
ideal of purity, now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual
pleasure or desire, and were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of
sexual repression and prudery.
Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison,
and the protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem
concerning the use of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that
studies could be pursued, but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the
very culture women presumably wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women,
which started in the 1830s, were not widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed
by a prominent physician in 1870: Why destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary
grammarian?
It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP,
middle class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view
of women. They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as
men, both on the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more

Summary Of Maggie A Girl Of The Street Sexism
He Can but She Cannot: The Harmful Effects of Sexism on Women
The idea of a sexual double standard emphasizes that men have more sexual freedom than their
female counterparts. According to Professor Derek Kreager, a sexual double standard is the
belief that women and men are held to different standards of sexual conducts in contemporary
society (Kreager 1). This concept is evident not only in modern society, but in the past as well.
Stephen Crane, an American author of the late 1800s helps prove this. He was extremely thorough
in making sure he wrote truthfully to the times he lived. With that in mind, in his novella Maggie:
A Girl of the Streets there is a clear sexual double standard. There is a strong presence of a sexual
double standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many would claim that men and women are treated exactly the same. This statement is
disproven in Maggie: a Girl of the Streets . This is obvious when Crane writes that, Pete did not
consider that he had ruined Maggie. If he had thought that her soul could never smile again, he
would have believed the mother and brother, who were pyrotechnic over the affair, to be
responsible for it (Crane 61). Pete never even considered the repercussions his actions would
have on Maggie. At first in the novella, Maggie was nervous about kissing Pete. When Pete slept
with Maggie he ruined her but he never would have considered her downfall to be his fault.
Since Pete had a higher status as a man and in general, he did not concern himself with what
would happen to Maggie. This reveals the sexual double standard because Pete did not even have
to think about his actions, while Maggie was forced to take responsibility for both of their actions.
Oakland University sociologist and anthropologist Heidi Lyons explains the overwhelming proof
that there is a sexual double standard. She reports that, Teenage boys who gain considerable sexual
experience do not run the same risk of being labeled deviant as do their female counterparts. More
specifically, young women who had a high number of sex partners were socially reprimanded
for their behaviors, and young men were rewarded. (Lyons 3). The young women in this study
are seen as socially inferior to the men and Lyons works to expose this fact. Since the men are
held on a pedestal they are not scolded or held responsible for their actions. The more confirmed
sexual experiences a woman has the lower she falls socially. The more experiences a man has the
higher he is held in esteem in today s society. This sexual double standard makes no sense at all.
The women are expected to stay

  • 2. The Rules Of Oppression By Friedrich Nietzsche The Rules of Oppression For this assignment, I was asked to create an essay demonstrating my knowledge from the semester, by elaborating on the topics discussed in class on philosophers of morality. The philosopher that maximized my attention was Friedrich Nietzsche. Per Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Nietzsche wrote on on truth, morality, language, aesthetics, cultural theory, history, nihilism, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence. (Wilkerson) Nietzsche s work on morality, titled Master and Slave Morality implemented questions I have pondered in regards to the choice of who controls power in the world, because it is often that those control power assumed their position by bullying those who pose a threat, thus inciting an inferior feeling. A question that reoccurred while studying Nietzsche was how do the people who are forced in to his master/slave complex break free of their master s grips? The answer to my question is also in Nietzsche s work, and is titled Transvaluation of Values. Transvaluation of Values occurs when the slave class over throws or resists their masters, (a flip in power structure) therefore those who are placed in the roll of slaves due to their values, and beliefs will continue to break free of their oppression, because of the opportunity named Transvaluation of Values. Within my class room we defined The Master and Slave Morality System as classifying people in to two categories: master, and slave. Other names for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Children Should Not Withhold Discipline From A Child Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol .Proverbs 23:13 14. Spanking children is used as a form of discipline if brought upon with a valid reason. Peoples opinions may very because everything has an extent it can be taken to expressly discipline. Disciplining children has been an widely controversial topic for many years as in the forms, the things used to discipline children, and the extent. One of the many forms of discipline is positive discipline. Witch focuses more on encouraging the childinstead of focusing on the punishment. A parent using positive discipline might sit down with the child and say, I know your teacher wants you to get your math paper done tonight and you don t want to do it. What can we do to get that paper done so you ll be able to show Mrs. Smith that you got all your homework done on time? (Morin 1). Another form of discipline is setting boundaries for your children. Clearly stating the consequences to the child. You won t be able to use any of your electronics tonight until your work is done. (Morin 1). Behavior Modification is another disciplinarian action which focuses on consequences reinforces with praise. Remember, once you get your homework done, you get to use the computer for 30 minutes. Praise would be offered if the child chooses to comply. The parent would ignore any protests. (Morin 1). All of these forms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
• 5. Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism Environmentalist and Capitalism The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees down to build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However, the Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is not true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for our own good. In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on China. Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as much as they usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could possibly own less cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier on everyone else and the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the environment. They do whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they can get more money. If all Capitalist care about is making more stuff, capitalism may be the best system ever. But if you want to save the planet from environmental catastrophe our current economic system is a dead end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Why Elephants Are Scared Of Mice Why Elephants Are Scared of Mice Thousands of years ago in Africa, elephants roamed the Earth without a single worry. Their immense size and strength had caused them to develop exaggerated pride, overconfidence and the belief that they were superior to all other creatures. George in particular, was no exception. He was more egotistic and arrogant than the entire elephant race combined. George only allowed the others to refer to himself as Master George and was incredibly irritated when smaller creatures would even glance at him without proper deference. Due to physical weakness and miniature size, most field mice had grown completely obedient, cowardly and feeble in character. Elephants such as George would often bully, hurt or even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George the elephant was of the opinion that he there was nobody as attractive or intelligent as himself. For this reason he presumed that it was a waste of time for him to meet other female elephants to build a family with. Therefore, George s only task was to find water for himself. Pedro on the other hand, had recently encountered a stunning female mouse who he cared for a great deal. Although he was challenged to find enough water for two beings, his size was finally an advantage due to the fact that mice required less water than larger creatures. After hours of searching for even the smallest bodies of water, Pedro eventually came across a sizeable puddle. His hard work had payed off; he was ready to return home to provide water to his partner. However, in order to continue his journey, Pedro needed several gulps of water himself. As Pedro drank blissfully, he noticed a large silhouette approaching the puddle. He could recognize this creature anywhere. It was an elephant. It didn t take George a long time to discover puddles that had not yet dried. George only needed to stand on his hind legs to see all the bodies of water around. He would then walk towards the pond, and proceed to use his long trunk to suck up the remaining water. After having used his methods on four different puddles, George casually strolled in the direction of the fifth. He was about to begin consuming the water, when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of The Night Sky It was late, the moon already high in the night sky, all except for George lie sleeping softly in the bunkhouse. An unfinished game of solitaire, sprawled out across the barn floor. The barn was lit only by a single red candle on an overturned crate. Next to the candle was an opened red pack of cigarettes and a dirty brass lighter. Fresh hay was scattered around the cold floor, a job unfinished. In the corner of the shadowed barn, a spider clung to its web as it slowly devoured a helpless fly. Curley s wife lay still, untouched, the sight almost had a natural feeling about it, as though this was all her life was ever to amount to, she lay dead amongst the hay; it was as thought the others had forgotten about her and merely continued with their dreary lives. A rusted shovel leaned against the wall, next to a freshly dug mound of earth, covering Candy s lifeless dog. Lastly, spread across the floor, was a ragged length of cold consuming rope, with a noose tied in one frayed end. George crouched before the rope, hunched over almost questioningly, as though judging whether or not this was his best way out of the situation. He was dirty and unshaven; he had yet not bothered to change from his gloomy, threadbare work attire. His hair was greasy and unkempt, his facial hair was long and neglected and his face looked like it had not seen water for many days. His eyes seemed to have sunken in to his head, for they were carrying heavy bags, he resembled a man who had not slept for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of the study is to investigate whether or not having an offshore occupation has a detrimental impact on the dynamic of the family, particularly in relation to the spouse and their children. BACKGROUND There appears to be a gap in the literature concerning the adaptions to families whilst the male role figure is away for weeks at a time, despite major s changes that have occurred across the industry. However, Gibson (2012) believed that children are competent to act as informants regarding their experiences. Yet, it is important to ensure there are no significant power differences between the adults and the children. Moreover, it is imperative for the children to understand why they have been asked to participate and aware that they are allowed to make their own decisions about participation, hence why an age restriction has been implemented. The participants will be collected using the purposive sampling method, in environments such as the work place or social events. The purposive sampling technique was selected as it is an effective method for collecting participants in qualitative studies. The technique is constructed to allow the researcher to deliberately select specific persons for their research (Teddie and Yu 2007). Data Analysis Focus groups have been renowned for its inherently complex data analysis. It requires an experienced researcher to identify the themes that have emerged throughout the discussions, to ensure no bias tailoring has been made to support theoretical assumptions. Therefore, the data collected from the focus group will be transcribed by the researcher using the audio recorder. The data will be analysed using thematic analysis which involves identifying and coding the key themes that have emerged. Thematic analysis is a widely used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I tilted my head to the side a little bit and tried to read the book, what does this mean? , I asked. She told me It means to set goals and always strive to achieve them . Cool! I exclaimed, I want to set a goal , Shari looked at me with a smile, okay, what do you want to do in your life? I thought about it for a minute, but before I could answer, the man (of whom I still didn t know the name) asked me to leave, and when I asked him why he said you are an abomination, you shouldn t be alive and I don t want you here. Shari looked at him, don t be like that, he is a nice ginger person. Thats the problem! , he practically shouted, he s not a person, he is a gingerbread cookie, he shouldn t be alive! . Shari looked at me apologetically, Im sorry, but when he gets like this it is best to do what he asks. The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as a show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of female empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt and so can we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women, one which feminism should celebrate (para. 3). Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman . Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie: It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt bad for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun, she had sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that image, that scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley. And the monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6) Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher genre, I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing the fetishised female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is still fun, she is still sexual, she is still Barbie with ... Essay On How To Solve The Sparse Approximate Dft Problem The first work that tried to solve the sparse approximate DFT problem can be found in cite{NYN93}, in which they designed an algorithm based on Hadamard Transform, i.e. the Fourier transform over the Boolean cube. A polynomial time algorithm to interpolates a sparse polynomial was developed in cite{Y95}. The method in this paper inspired the authors of cite{GMS05}, in which they described an algorithmthat can be used to approximate DFT when $N$ is a power of 2. In the early 2000s, people paid a lot of attention to the sparse approximation problem in Fourier space. The first algorithm with sub linear runtime and the sub sampling property was given in cite{GGIMM02}. In which they give a randomized algorithm with runtime poly($s, log N,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it needs to point out that the runtime of the algorithm in cite{AGS03} has a high dependence on sparsity compare with cite{GGIMM02} and cite{GMS05}. All the SFT algorithms above are randomized algorithms. This means they have small probability to fail to give the correct or optimal recovery on each input signal. Thus, they are not appropriate for long lived failure intolerant applications. The first deterministic sub linear time SFT algorithm was developed in cite{I08} based on the deterministic Compressed Sensing results of Cormode and Muthukrishnan (CM)cite{RSR69}cite{CM05}cite{CM06}. A simpler optimized version of this algorithm was given in cite{I10}, which has similar runtime/sampling bounds ($mathcal{O}(s^2 log ^4 N)$) to the one in cite{GMS05}. Later, in cite{I11}, a further modified SFT algorithm was provided. It showed simple methods for extending the improved sparse Fourier transforms to higher dimensional settings. More specifically, the algorithm can find the near optimal $s$ term approximation for any given input function, $f: [0,2pi]^{D} rightarrow C$ in $mathcal{O}(s^2 D^4)$ time (neglecting logarithmic factors). The algorithms in cite{I08}cite{I10}cite{I11} are all aliasing based search algorithm cite{indyk_overview}, which means they rely on the combinatorial properties of aliasing among frequencies in sub samples DFTs. As the oppression of slavery died out, a new age began to dawn of both technology and economics, also a new age also dawned for poets, writers, and the everyday person. The people of this age would experience something new from these poets and writers, no longer taking the people to a far away place, a place where starving, suffering, everyday life, doesn t exists; no these poets would take their readers to their neighbors and maybe even themselves, show them the things we didn t want to see. A womanwho even frail, suffered everyday. Not being able to experience her own world, locked in a mental cage that was her marriage. So, with Dunbar rising in fame, for his stories about the suffering and disillusionment of the African American experience, he would meet Frederick Douglass, a famous African American lecturer, editor, and leader. They both thought very highly of each other, so the poem written by Dunbar named Douglass was a cry for help from his long dead friend. Dunbar writes, Oh, for thy voice high sounding o er the storm, for thy strong arm to guide the shivering bark, the blast defying power of thy form, to give us comfort through the lonely dark. Dunbar wishes for Douglass to come help his people of this time, to be their loud voice again, to use his strong to guide our shivering souls to a better place, and to be a hero once again. So with the suffering a people, we turn to the suffering of a gender. Kate Chopin whose writings were mostly about women of the time, wrote the short story, The Story of an Hour. A story about a women Mrs. Mallard. The Early History Of Islam THE EARLY HISTORY OF ISLAM Lily Grote HUM 2020: Introduction to the Humanities December 1st, 2015 The history of the Islamic religion begins in 610 C.E., with Muhammad ibn Abdallah, a merchant who every year during the month of Ramadan would retire to a cave on the summit of Mount Hira, just outside Mecca in the Arabian Hijaz, where he prayed, fasted and gave alms to the poor. This was a common practice for many Arabs in the peninsula. Muhammad was a merchant, a member of the tribe Quraysh which had become quite wealthy trading among bordering countries. The Quraysh were focused on accumulating more wealth but at the expense of the tribe s poorer family groups, known as clans. A spiritual restlessness had become apparent among many of the Arab countries, as they knew that Judaism and Christianity were more refined than the Arab s own pagan customs. Many Arabs began to believe that they were left out by al Lah (the High God of their pantheon, literally meaning the God ) because they were not sent a prophet or scripture such as Jesus, the Bible, or the Torah in that of the Christian and Jewish religions. Muhammad himself had most likely never heard of the Christian prophets. Oftentimes, the Jews and followers of Christ taunted the Arabs for not being a part of the divine plan. • 24. Conventional Control And Artificial Control Conventional control methods cannot achieve the desired speed tracking with good accuracy in case of sudden disturbance and parameter variations. This problem can be alleviated by implementing advanced control techniques such as adaptive control, variable structure control, fuzzy control and neural network [66].Fuzzy control theoryusually provides nonlinear controllers that are capable of performing different complex nonlinear control action even for uncertain nonlinear systems [67]. Unlike conventional control designing, a FLC does not require precise knowledge of the system model such as the poles and zeroes of the system transfer function [68]. A fuzzy logic control system based on expert knowledge database needs less calculations, but it lacks sufficient capacity for the new rules [1]. So, the combination between fuzzy and PID controller where the role of the fuzzy controller is to tune the PID controller parameters according to the error and change of error might be a good alternative compared to conventional PID control [45] and [67]. It is appropriate for speed control applications. FLC is very suitable for the controlled object with characteristics of large delay, large inertia, non linear and time variant [28]. In this chapter we applied two techniques of control. The first control technique is self tuning fuzzy PID controller which shows a good performance compared to conventional PID controller. Although innovative research on green energy sources have flourished during the past years, fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy in the world. Methods of extraction and storage for crude oils can become detrimental to the environment if not properly handled. Starting from marine spills, to leakage of underground storage tanks, these anthropogenic activities intoxicate soil and water bodies impacting both terrestrial and aquatic life. However, through a natural process called bioremediation, microbes are able to degrade toxic pollutants and even result in the complete restoration of contaminated sites. This paper will focus mainly on bioremediation of oil contaminated soils. Introduction Soil contamination occurs when an excessive amount of a substance is present in the soil at higher than normal concentration without necessarily causing any direct harm (Vance, Pierzynski, Sims, 1994). Soil contamination can lead to soil pollution, which is the evolution of soil contamination, causing some type of direct harm; thus a soil can be contaminated but not polluted (Vance et al., 1994). Perfume, By Patrick Suskind Essay As a German writer, the reason for which Patrick Suskind wrote his critically acclaimed novel, Perfume, in a French setting, about the French, is questionable. However, candidate answers lie in the setting of the novel itself. Mid 18th century France, which is adjacent to Suskind s Germany, harboured not only a national, but global revolution of politics, economics, and social norms through the French reforms. This had plentiful influence on all aspects of Prussia since the late 17th century (when Germany was known as Prussia) to the present. This stepping stone to a change in practicality lied in the French Revolution and the change of identity that it instilled upon the populace. An exploration of Grenouille and perfume in Perfume reveals their symbolism of the critical transition from religious prominence, to humanistic considerations, to nihilistic extremes that ensued national and global chaos after the French Revolution to represents its influence on Germany and its constituent populace. Perfume s mid 18th century setting boasts a religious presence through the Kingship rights employed by Roman Catholic Church doctrines, that was gradually diminishing due to an Age of Enlightenment paradigm shift and an introduction of humanistic and nihilistic views from the French Revolution. In addition, the Enlightenment s ideology coursed through Thomas Jefferson s vision of a government formed by deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (663). Jefferson and his peers believed in the liberal political thought that the people formed the government, which was answerable to those they represented. Jefferson eschewed the idea of absolute authority and tyrannical rule as he wrote, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive...it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it. (663). He relayed the enlightened intellectual s belief that it is the duty of the people to dispose of despotic regimes (663). My personal definition of land is a substance in which animals and humans utilize by physically walking on. When combining both personal definitions of land and ethic, I define land ethic as viewing land with the utmost respect, feeling passionate and taking action toward sustaining or benefiting the lands natural state. • 33. The Anti Hypertensive Properties Of Doxazosin Pharmacology Doxazocin is an alpha adrenoceptor blocking drug and it is used in both hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia (Joint Formulary Committee, 2014). For the purpose of this essay, the main focus will be on the anti hypertensive properties of Doxazosin. Selective О±1 antagonists work on the post synaptic О±1 adrenoreceptors predominantly found in vascular smooth muscle. These receptors are normally bound by norepinephrine or epinephrine to mediate regulation of the cardiovascular system by the sympathetic nervous system. As can be seen in Figure 1, these receptors are bound to Gq proteins which have two signal transduction pathways. One of the pathways forms IP3 (Inositol triphosphate) which then stimulates the release of Calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum in a cardiac monocyte (Klabunde, R.E., 2013). The release of calcium then stimulates contraction in the heart. By selectively inhibiting these adrenoceptors, vasodilation occurs which in turn causes a decrease in arterial pressure (Rang and Dale). With a mean half life of 22 hours (Martindale, 2013), Doxazosin is considered to be a long acting hypertensive drug. This means that it can be administered once daily, rather than multiple times. With a good absorption when administered orally, the maximum plasma concentration happens two to three hours after a dose (Martindale, 2013). It also states that doxazosin is roughly 98.3% bound to plasma, which means that it has an excellent distribution around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though crime has been at a low during the past decade, violence is still prevalent in today s society. Most of these crimes happen in places that are socio economically disadvantaged. There then is the debate of whether violent crimeis associated with environments struck with poverty. There is a correlation between violent crimes and poverty because of the unemployment rates in major cities, the culture of poor areas, and drugs. There are three components that must be looked at before carrying on. They are: poverty, social inequality, and relative depravation. Poverty is defined according to an economic standard. This is a problem all over the world evident by demonstrations such as the Occupy movement, the Brazil protests, the protests in Greece, etc. These protestors are still voters and this causes a divide in a nation, hence the escalated instability and violence. Another big contributor is that of discrimination. If the majority of the poor in the US are black and brown, and poverty leads to crime, then most of the criminals will be black and brown. This is the case wherever the criminals are the poor ones. It can be argued that the right way is to get an education. Some say education leads to a more civilized person and in turn the violence is reduced. A free education does not guarantee that a child will go on to go to college. Some personally do not like the idea of any post secondary schooling. Others can say that the majority of black and brown criminals suggest problems within the social structures of those certain ethnic groups. This association with an ethnic group is worse when the word criminal implies a moral value. The mass incarceration tactics targets the black and brown population of the US and that is a huge issue. Bolloso Department of Biological Sciences College of Science, University of Santo Tomas Espana, Manila Abstract Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard. It is produced when something vibrates causing its the medium (water, air, etc.) around it to vibrate as well. In common everyday speech, speed of sound refers to the speed of sound waves in air. All of these languages were extremely complex and distinct, none of these languages being English. Many American citizens argue that as a nation, English should be recognized as the official language. Even though the majority of people in America speak or understand English, legally placing this as the nation s language will have several negative consequences. For people who side on making it the official language, they feel that communicating with be easier and that allowing there to be no official language will erase American culture. Tolerance is another good quality that comes with cultural relativism. Tolerance helps us have a sort of explanation on why other cultures act the way they do. The Eskimos believe in and practice infanticide throughout their villages (Rachels 2015). This practice is considered highly wrong in American cultures, but is considered morally acceptable in cultures like the Eskimo (Rachels 2015). What a lot of people forget to take into account is the reason the Eskimos perform infanticide. It is not because they are cruel people, no, it is because they are thinking about the possible future life of the child and the future life of their village. In Norway any physician that helped with assisted suicide was charged with accessory to murder. In the United States there are many laws regarding murder, but accessory to murder is also a charge. A person who is considered an accessory to murder is not typically present at the scene of the crime, but contributes to the success of the crime before or after the fact. This statement creates a controversial wave within the country. Those physicians who are prescribing deadly doses of medication are knowingly providing a means to kill someone. How Social Control Theory Affects Criminal Behavior How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Mason Campbell Barge 900259391 University of North Georgia Criminology 11/17/14 How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Social control theory and life course theory focus on people s lives and how they interact with one another. The basic idea of the life course theory is that people s life experiences, both good and bad, determine what kind of person that they will be later in life. This does not mean that just because a person who had a good childhood, lived in a wealthy home, and had good parents, will continue to be a good person. The same can be said for people who had a bad childhood. Children who got in fights and disrespected authority figures may not continue to do that later on in life. A life course theorist would say this is because there are turning points in these people s lives that they go through. These turning points cause a person to change their current life course (Siegel, 2013, p. 305). For example a teenage boy who, regularly attends school, stays active in his community, and has good grades, decides to celebrate his success by smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol with some friends. Trans Fats And Its Effects On Human Health Partially hydrogenated oils: These types of oils have the purpose of giving a longer shelf life to food and giving more stability to oils that are usually liquid at room temperature. By partially hydrogenating certain oils, food industries can make liquid oils solid and sustain a food s flavor and the length it can remain on shelves. This types of oil, PHOs, make up most of the artificial trans fats in many foods. PHOs are created by chemically altering the chemical bonds of the oils by adding hydrogen molecules to create a solid oil. This type of oil has a negative impact on human health and the FDA recently decided that PHOs were regarded as not generally recognized as safe for human consumption. Since PHOs are the main source of trans fats in American s diets, they have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease that could lead to heart attacks and death. Gathering information about assessments will allow me to broaden my own techniques and strategies that I use in the classroom, more specifically the ways in which I grade and provide feedback on assessments so that students can use that feedback in a positive way. In my past experiences I have noticed my cooperating teachers providing grades on all assessments with no feedback because they want the students to correct their own mistakes. • 55. Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper The Victorian period in American history spawned a certain view of women that in many ways has become a central part of gender myths still alive today, although in a diluted way. In this essay, some characteristics of this view of women, often called The Cult of True Womanhood , will be explored with reference to Thomas R. Dew Dissertation on the Characteristic Differences Between the Sexes (1835). Some of the feminist developments arising in conflict with this ideal will also be traced. Then, in accordance with my view that literature and culture is often interrelated, I will proceed by with an analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, it was believed that this was so, and some explained this as an expression of gratitude for the civilizing effect religion had had on them! This is of course connected with the ideal of purity, now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual pleasure or desire, and were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of sexual repression and prudery. Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison, and the protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem concerning the use of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that studies could be pursued, but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the very culture women presumably wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women, which started in the 1830s, were not widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed by a prominent physician in 1870: Why destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary grammarian? It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP, middle class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view of women. They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as men, both on the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Summary Of Maggie A Girl Of The Street Sexism He Can but She Cannot: The Harmful Effects of Sexism on Women The idea of a sexual double standard emphasizes that men have more sexual freedom than their female counterparts. According to Professor Derek Kreager, a sexual double standard is the belief that women and men are held to different standards of sexual conducts in contemporary society (Kreager 1). This concept is evident not only in modern society, but in the past as well. Stephen Crane, an American author of the late 1800s helps prove this. He was extremely thorough in making sure he wrote truthfully to the times he lived. With that in mind, in his novella Maggie: A Girl of the Streets there is a clear sexual double standard. There is a strong presence of a sexual double standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many would claim that men and women are treated exactly the same. This statement is disproven in Maggie: a Girl of the Streets . This is obvious when Crane writes that, Pete did not consider that he had ruined Maggie. If he had thought that her soul could never smile again, he would have believed the mother and brother, who were pyrotechnic over the affair, to be responsible for it (Crane 61). Pete never even considered the repercussions his actions would have on Maggie. At first in the novella, Maggie was nervous about kissing Pete. When Pete slept with Maggie he ruined her but he never would have considered her downfall to be his fault. Since Pete had a higher status as a man and in general, he did not concern himself with what would happen to Maggie. This reveals the sexual double standard because Pete did not even have to think about his actions, while Maggie was forced to take responsibility for both of their actions. Oakland University sociologist and anthropologist Heidi Lyons explains the overwhelming proof that there is a sexual double standard. She reports that, Teenage boys who gain considerable sexual experience do not run the same risk of being labeled deviant as do their female counterparts. More specifically, young women who had a high number of sex partners were socially reprimanded for their behaviors, and young men were rewarded. (Lyons 3). The young women in this study are seen as socially inferior to the men and Lyons works to expose this fact. Since the men are held on a pedestal they are not scolded or held responsible for their actions. The more confirmed sexual experiences a woman has the lower she falls socially. The more experiences a man has the higher he is held in esteem in today s society. This sexual double standard makes no sense at all. The women are expected to stay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
