Do you want students to share their learning more visibly with their peers?
Are you interested in creating assignments that allow students to collaborate, remix multimedia, and develop literacies for contributing to the open web?
The VIUBlogs service can be used by faculty and students to communicate with peers and/or the community, write collectively, build a portfolio, or engage in reflective writing. An increasing number of faculty are developing learning designs which integrate VIUBlogs as part of student learning activities.
In this session, we will showcase some of the possible ways which you might integrate VIUBlogs into your teaching practice and consider how doing so may make student learning more visible, collaborative, and authentic.

Improving technology, changing students, challenging finances, and alternative credentialing sources have all combined to create an online learning boom in higher education. For liberal arts colleges, online learning promises to enhance the curriculum by moving some tasks online to allow for more active learning face-to-face, increasing student time on task, connecting study abroad or internship students back to campus, adding curricular resources, or expanding access to liberal education. Whatever the motivation for considering online learning, liberal arts colleges are forging new ground in bringing the liberal arts educational model--highly interactive, close work between students and faculty--into an online context. This seminar will explore a variety of models for using technology to fulfill the essential learning outcomes of liberal education and suggest ways faculty might enhance their courses with online teaching.

The main issue today is not selecting, providing or efficiently organising the library stock, not even making a library catalogue. Now we must focus on libraries' user-learners, on analysing their needs, developing training programmes for them, and searching online (reliable, public, democratic) resources for every subject in the school curriculum. The librarian becomes a 'mediator' between the growing and diverse needs of students and teachers and the universe of available resources on the Net. Therefore, in this session I will introduce and explain a number of initiatives some Spanish and Latinamerican librarians and teachers have undertaken in this line.

The state of California recently adopted legislation to develop open textbooks for the 50 highest enrolled college classes and store them in a statewide repository. The goal of the legislation is expanding access to education by saving students thousands of dollars each year in textbook costs. A key component of this equation is the adoption of open textbooks by the faculty and staff who support students and their learning.
Come to this session to learn more about finding, selecting, and adopting open textbooks and OER to enhance student learning. Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing.
