Green plants are known as producers because they can prepare their own food through photosynthesis using light, carbon dioxide, water, and chlorophyll. Plants provide humans with various foods including fruits, vegetables, cereals and pulses which come from different plant parts such as seeds, fruits and vegetables. Animals also provide humans with food like meat, eggs, honey, milk and dairy products. Different types of animals have different feeding habits and are grouped as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. The food we eat contains important nutrients like carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and roughage. Deficiencies in these nutrients can lead to diseases.
