This document summarizes Mary Parker Follett's management theory and the Hawthorne Studies. Follett is considered the "Mother of Modern Management" and believed management is about getting things done through people using power-with rather than power-over. Her main principles were integration of workers, co-active power, and valuing group power over personal power. The Hawthorne Studies from the 1920s experimented with work conditions and found that productivity increased due to social and environmental factors, not just physical changes. Both highlighted the human element in management.
