To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in 1932 Maycomb, Alabama, where racism is prevalent. The story is told from the perspective of six-year-old Scout Finch. Scout witnesses prejudice firsthand as her father, Atticus, defends Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. The novel also features Arthur "Boo" Radley, a mysterious neighbor who is rumored to be a monster and is never seen outside. In the end, despite Atticus's efforts, the biased jury unjustly convicts and sentences Tom Robinson to death.
A Raisin in the Sun: Introduction
Lorraine Hansberry was the first African American woman to have a play produced on Broadway. Her most famous work, A Raisin in the Sun, debuted in 1959 and explored the dreams and conflicts within a black family living in racially segregated Chicago. The Great Migration
Many history books don't mention the Great Migration. Between 1920 and 1980, six million African Americans migrated from the south. They were escaping Jim Crow Laws, Lynchings, poor job opportunities, poor education for their children. Some planned for years and saved to leave. Some saw a body hanging from a tree and took off. Many of our famous African American artists managed to accomplish what they did because their parents or grandparents left the south. This needs to be in every American history book in the country. I teach it in my American History course from 1877 to the present.

- 2. Plato โ The Symposium โข According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. โข Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.

Jim and Jim โข Jim Lewis and Jim Springer were separated at birth, when they were put up for adoption in 1940 and met for the first time when they were 39. โข It turns out that the name Jim was actually given to each of them independently, by their respective adoptive parents โข Both men had married twiceโfirst to women named Linda, and then to women named Betty. โข Both had childhood dogs named Toy. Their sonsโ names were James Allen and James Alan. โข Both worked as sheriffโs deputies, drank the same beer, smoked the same cigarettes, and drove the same Chevrolet.

Margaret and Mary Gibb โข Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, in 1912 โข Their parents did not want them exhibited or exploited nor did they want the twins separated. โข At age 14, Margaret and Mary performed on the vaudeville stage and with travelling circuses for the next couple of decades โข After one of them got engaged, they lived a quiet life until 1966 when Margaret was diagnosed with terminal cancer. โข Even then, the Gibb twins refused to be separated. โข They both died within minutes of each other in 1967.
