The document proposes creating an augmented reality mobile game similar to Pokémon Go that would feature local attractions in York, England like the city walls and Jorvik Viking Centre. Each attraction would have a mini-game playable near its location that teaches historical facts and becomes more difficult through stages, rewarding players with cosmetic avatar items for completing games at all attractions. The game aims to educate and entertain younger locals and tourists aged 17-24 who may not otherwise visit the sites.

1. My Idea for york tourism project
I am planning to make a location based game that is similar
to pokemon go as it is an AR game that allows the user to
walk around in real
life while
participating in the
game. The game
would be based on
the local attractions
in york such as the
wall and jorvik. Each
attraction will have a
mini game based around them that can only be played when
in proximity of the location. This game would inform the
player of facts that revolve around the attraction, and each
attraction having a different theme within history, for
example jorvik having a Viking based game. Throughout
walking through the attraction, the game will change stages
and becoming increasingly more difficult but will only allow
the player to receive the rewards from the game when they
have completed all stages, meaning that they have to
actually go through the whole attraction. The rewards in the
game will be cosmetic

changes the way their
character looks or
furniture for their room
when they are playing the
game , and also what
people see them wearing
when they appear on the
game map. The art style
will be semi pixelated to have a reasonably realistic and
detailed graphic style for the more mature audiences, but
also easy enough on the eye for the younger side of my

2. target audience (17-24). This game would be used to get the
younger generation to see attractions that they might not
have gone to if they weren’t prompted to. The game serves
as a distraction, allowing the player to go through the whole
attraction and learning about it. An example of this is Jorvik,
appealing to only very young children below 15 that find
Vikings interesting, while a young adult audience of 17-24
wont be interested opting for bars or more social activities
such as crazy golf that can be enjoyed with their friends.
