The student proposes making a short film about homosexuality and the struggles of coming out. It will focus on two boys - one who is struggling with his mental health and another who is popular but has a homophobic father. They become friends and accidentally fall in love without knowing the other's feelings. The student will research teen dramas and portrayals of mental health and coming out in films to help develop realistic characters. Evaluation will include weekly reflections, a comparison to other films, and peer feedback to improve weaknesses and create a strong final product.

The most prominent product which has allowed me to develop my skills was the trailer I made for
my FMP. This project allowed me to improve on my camera skills, I decided to include some nice
shots more specifically a shot which changes focus as its subjects changed. The shot work ed very
effectively and added a very professional feel to the product. My FMP also improved my post
production skills as it allowed me to discover the dark and desaturated aesthetic which I love. I
However, my factual project allowed me to improve my post production skills the most as I
included many different effects and tools to make the product have a more complex tone. I will use
these skills I have learnt from this project when perhaps including the title in my Film. From what I
have learnt, it will add a much more sophisticated look to my final product.

I am planning to make a short film based on the theme of homosexuality. It is going to include the
idea of the controversy and closedminded views of homophobic people and how it can affect
people’s lives. The story will consist of two boys who are completely different, one is a bit of a
loner who is struggling with mental health and another is a popular boy who has a very
homophobic dad and friends. They become friends and start to accidently fall in love however,
neither of them knows that the other feels the same way about them. The popular boy doesn’t
know how to feel as he doesn’t want to ruin his reputation and wants to be the masculine man that
his dad and friends expect him to be. The film follows their journey and portrays the struggle of
love and coming out. For this project, I will need to research teen and high school dramas to see
exactly how to portray characters around this age effectively. As well as that, I need to see how
characters who are struggling with mental health and coming out as homosexual are portrayed in
mainstream films as this will allow me to try and capture a believable performance.

When evaluating my work, I will make sure to keep a reflection journal every week. This will allow
me to gather what I have achieved that week and evaluate it. This will be helpful as it will allow me
to see what specific areas I am solid on and which I need to improve on. This will allow me to
improve my work as it will mean every week I can improve in my weakness therefore creating an
overall much stronger product. In my evaluation PowerPoint, I will definitely include comparisons of
existing products in my evaluation document. This is because this will allow me to view already
successful products and compare the features and techniques they include with my final product.
This will give me a correct insight of how good my product is and also see what in the future I can
improve in my filmmaking. I want to include peer feedback as well, this will allow me to gain advice
