A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief- What could you make? What are you good at?
Your opinions?
Can be a list of bullet points of reactions- does not have to be full prose. Can be hand drawn and
scanned in.
I am excited for this project and the challenge of the creative limitations of
the brief. Initially, I am uncertain about the concept of my piece however I
have some ideas for shots that I have seen and tried in my experiments. In
the past, I have worked mostly from improvisation which I believe will help
me in this project when looking for concepts and shot ideas during
production however I would like to have a strong plan and narrative before
I begin production.

6. Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
How will your mood board influence your final product?
I have filled my mood board with films and projects that I enjoy and could possibly take inspiration from for my
project. The genres I have included are mainly psychological thrillers and films with an interesting concept such
a Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. From doing my mood board, I have decided to produce a thriller based
movie as I feel there is a lot to work with in the psychological genre. It also fits very well into the title of our
project “Gone in 90 Seconds”. One challenge with doing this specific genre is that most of these films are
credited for their build and story development ending with a revelation or twist at the end. I believe this may be
hard to execute within the timeframe of 90 seconds however I also have some ideas of how I may be able to do
it. I would like to take some inspiration from the Black Mirror series and create something underlining the horrors
of technology in the near future. Films such as Sin City and Logan set a very good tone very quickly throughout
their respective films which I would like to take inspiration from especially within the time frame; I believe it to be
very important to establish this quickly. The dark tones and colour motifs are also something that I would like to
experiment with whilst creating the film and referring to Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions to do this. I would also like
to experiment with sound design which I could not express on my mood board. Whilst doing my original
experiments on Shaun of the Dead, I found that the sound design is as important as the visuals when drawing
attention to a scene. Lights Out by David Sandberg showed me that, when it comes to audio production,
sometimes less is more and that creating tension in a scene does not necessarily need music or a rising
soundtrack.
7. My idea generation mind map shows 3 potential ideas for my project. The first idea takes inspiration from
the show Black Mirror with the idea that technology is more dangerous than we think. The film would
focus on a person connecting to an unknown Wi-Fi network and then slowly disappearing and glitching
until the end in which the are gone. I decided on this idea due to my enjoyment of Black Mirror and it also
give me a chance to experiment with visual effects and expand my knowledge. I also picked this because
it would only require one person which I feel will be more manageable for my first project as I could use
myself.
8. The second idea I had was for a person to be exploring their own consciousness and mind whilst asleep,
unconscious or at the end of their life. This idea came from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and
Joel’s journey through his own mind when his memories are being erased. I would like to explore this in
one of two ways. The first being an exploration through memories and experiences whilst unconscious
and showing feelings of regret or joy with the film ending of the person on their deathbed. The second
idea was of a person slipping in and out of consciousness and slipping into a different life in a different
location under some kind of threat. The person then forces himself to wake up to escape but cannot stay
awake long enough to escape the threat.
9. The final idea I made to fit with the title of “Gone In 90 Seconds”. The idea is to show an entire life cycle
through birth to death in 90 seconds. Id like this to deal with themes of humanity, mortality and the value
of life within the short time. It would feature many different milestones of life including fist word and last
words. I would film the piece in an old camcorder style effect to create the authenticity.
10. What techniques, resources, locations, etc will you need to research?
To produce my film, I will need to conduct a lot of research into the logistics of production. To do
this I can create shot list for my films which will then suggest to me what resources I need. As I
have not done a lot of camera work or filmmaking, I will also do some research into how to use
cameras and possibly some tips for Premiere Pro that will aid me in the editing process and
allow me to produce something of quality. One camera shot I am interested in using is the Dutch
angle to show displacement however I would also like to experiment with different shots angles
which will improve my future filmmaking. The locations that I will choose will mainly be outside so
I will need to do some location scouting before starting the project. I will also need to choose a
pair of actors to be in my film which will be easy as I already how some suitable people in mind.
Overall there is not much physically to do but rather research into film techniques and skills that
will help me produce a quality piece.
