Mood board.
This is my mood board showing the
sort of moods I want to create. A
mix of dark and light pieces that
have a different contrast.
All pieces are outside and have
natural lighting although some
appear dark due to the location
being in underpasses and bridges
etc.
The graffiti piece will be the main
point of view. The graffiti will all be
bright colors so maybe darker
places and lighting to contrast that
on top of that I will do some in
bright lighting to show the full
range of colors and why graffiti is so
beautiful.

Content
The part of my documentary I will be using for this piece will be the start of the pilot episode. It will start with clips
of all different types of graffiti styles to show the audience the wide range of pieces. All clips will be filmed around
my local area however the graffiti scene isn’t that big so I plan to do a bit of traveling to York or Leeds to get some
better clips of more interesting graffiti.
The documentary will have an introduction where I will talk about what the series will be about, why I chose to
make it and what it is trying to achieve. The fact it is about the styles of graffiti means that it is less targeted towards
everyone and more towards people that are interested in graffiti.
The interview is one of the key points in the film and will be the main focus point throughout the 5 minute duration.
I can structure photos and video footage around that. I still need to find an interviewee that is willing to take part,
but I have a few people in mind and just need to check if they are happy to be filmed and when they are available.
I will make it appeal to my audience by giving them an engaging interview with a graffiti writer who shall be giving
them insightful information on how and why they do what they do. I will give a consistent style throughout the
video as it will make it more personal and will link in with the graffiti/anything creative – I don’t want the audience
to feel this is just another documentary.
On top of that the sound track and colourful graffiti will provide an insightful and intriguing film.
Storyboard
Intro will be a long
shot with a digital
graffiti title over it.
Then it will be shots of
graffiti and the different
types I will cover in the
documentary
After that or may even show
a skit before of the
interview.
I will get some close up
shots of graffiti being
created, this will come
after the interview or
during as the interviees
face cant be shown so it
might get boring just
looking at nothing so I
will play clips over
some.
Following that I will go back to
different styles n look at some more
Then to end the outro
which will have music and
may even have another
piece depending on how
much time I have.
Shot list
Shots What will be in then?
1 Introduction talking about the brief overview of what will happen in the series.
2 Followed by shots of graffiti I find on the streets with a voice over of different styles.
3 Start of the interview and explain what it will be about.
4 More street shots with music or even more voice over.
5 More of the interview with shots of graffiti or someone doing graffiti.
6 Final few shots with last bit of information and why people should watch on
7 Outro
A script
Intro:
‘ Graffiti is the street art that is now being accepted worldwide from criminals to artistes we are going to dive in and have a look at all
the different types and styles of graffiti that there are and how to identify each one individually.’
‘Graffiti is an art form so there are infinite ways to create pieces and different spots also give pieces different names.’
‘in this series we will go over all different types and styles starting at the basics and then get onto some more confusing and complex
ones.’
‘The first style we will look at is tagging’… we will explain tagging.
‘we will then look at throw ups’… explain throw ups.
Then wild style there the main 3 – tags, throwups and wildstyle/ peices
I will talk about the more wacky styles like sticker, stencil, heaven spots, block busters and posters. If this isn’t enough to fill the whole
video I will research some more and talk about them as well. However I have 8 different styles to fit in 5 mins so I don’t think will need
anymore.
I will also include my interview dotted throughout.
Maybe start with a clip from the interview to bring the watcher in so they want to watch on (skit).
Interview Questions
1. How did you get into graffiti?
2. What is your preferred style of graffiti?
3. Where do you get inspiration for your pieces?
4. What would your advice be for people getting into graffiti?
5. What’s the most dangerous place you have done graffiti?
Here are the questions I will ask in my documentary to a graffiti writer there are only 5 because I have a
time limit of 5mins for the video giving me just under a question a minute.
Production Schedule:
Week 0 This is the week before production so the week of planning however so I
am ahead I will need to collect basic videos or sketches that I can work
on the first week so no time is wasted however I may use this time to
make my digital piece for the intro.
Week 1 This week I will finish off anything I didn’t and will have quite a bit of
footage by then to start putting together this will also be the week I will
hopefully film my interview.
Week 2 By this week I should have filmed my interview or will be filming so by the
end of that will be able to start putting that into edit this week will also be
collecting the rest of my footage of its all done.
Week 3 By this week I should have it all filmed and start putting it all together
with music and videos and get the basic outline of the video.
Week 4 The last week will just be finishing touches and I will re watch and see if
there is anything I can make better. If there is I will improve it if there's
not then I can still tweak it slightly just to make it look finished

Experiments
Why?
I did a lot of experiments mainly to do with the opening scenes and
thumbnail / logos I will be making for this project.
I made a lot of different options so that I have a broad range to choose
from and I have a clear idea of what I'm doing. This is good to do before
any project as it gives you a better idea of what your project will look
like or could look like.
With a better idea of that then it allows the project to look a lot better
and professional as you see the other ones on what it could look like
and if you choose the best fitting one then you will get best most fitting
one.
My experiments.
My experiments 2.0
Best/ favourites and why?
1st
This is my favourite and the most likely one to use as it is
simple to read and eye catchy with the bright blur camo
patten and white outline.
It also incorporates the bubble look from the 3rd one but
also a few extra parts to give it a more graffiti look to it.
This task has given me a good overlook at
all my work, a kind of reflection.
From this I am going to incorporate all the
looks that I like into one and theoretically
this should be the best one, although see
what I create on the next page.
It doesn’t really have a flow though and it
doesn’t have a background. It may be that I
change these two things to make it even
better.
Best/ favourites and why?
I also gave it a bright shadow/ 3d look
however I didn’t outline it which would
have helped the final look of it.
The big downside to this image is that it is
written in semi wild style-style making it
hard to read.
However, I may still consider it though as
there will be the title above it so then it
will help people read it which I think may
impress people and make them more likely
to watch it.
2nd
I put this one in my top 3 as it is very colourful and eye catchy which
is good for what I want to achieve. It has a nice background another
scribble background with a blur over to give a focus on the word.
The fill I did I also like as it has a dark blue outline with bright blue
and yellow to make it stand out more and be nice to look at.
Best/ favourites and why?
Things I don’t like it is big and fills all
the space so it would be hard to fit
into my project especially if I do
graffiti as well in the same style.
I also feel like it looks a bit childish
and that would not be pushing
towards the target market I am
aiming for.
Also it does look a bit unfinished as I
left some white on the letters and I
don’t know if that helps the look or
makes it looks unfinished. I still feel
like its one of the top 3.
3rd
I like this piece as it is easy to read so people know what it says it
is in a bubble style with a blurred scribble fill. This gives it a bright
look that I really like it looks creative.
Final Design.
This is the design I think I will use as I incorporated a lot of the different styles and took all my
favourite parts and put them all together into one bit piece.
I used the colour camo fill with a bright shadow to make it eye catchy then I chose to do a dark
purple background as purple always looks nice as a backdrop.
I then added a lighter purple ripple effect that just gave it a nicer back ground than just a single
colour. I then included a “S” as I will need to do the word styles in my final piece.
Final Design.
Overall I really like this piece and think it was a good idea to look over all my other pieces and see what would
happen if I combined them all and the outcome was surprisingly good.
I didn’t really know what to expect when I started. One thing I could improve for my actual piece is add the
word ‘graffiti’ in a tag style above and do the ‘S’ as part of the piece instead on separate at the end but I really
do like this final piece.
I finally added a glow that in my opinion
just makes any piece look better. I also
added a line under it even though I don’t
think I did on any other pieces but this one
and I really like the look.
I think it should have been the same
colour as the piece and outlined the
shadow something I said I would in the
evaluation of the other pieces.
Interview experiments
Interview task
What went well?
1. Questions were clearly understood.
2. On a few questions I got quite long answers something that will be really helpful to my project.
3. Kept telling them to go into more detail so it was a lot more interesting.
What didn't’t?
1. Some responses were quite blunt and boring.
2. Some of the audio/ speech wasn’t as clear as I would have liked.
3. Some of the questions I though of didn't’t work well.
What can I improve for my project?
Main 3 things:
1. Good questions that allow them to elaborate further.
2. Good microphone and audio equipment
3. Keep pushing for more detail
With all of these put together I will get a clean interview needed for my video.
Interview Experiments
Talking Head Interviews (the type I will use)
A talking head interview is a standard format in which a
solo speaker is framed from the chest up. This gives
complete focus to the speaker and what they have to say.
Most talking head interviews are in journalism and
documentaries.

Editor's Notes

  • #3 You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting. Analyse what you have gathered.
  • #6 Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
  • #11 Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
