Hannah McNeill proposes to create a feminist magazine for her graphic design project. She will focus on graphic design using Photoshop and InDesign to design professional pages. She will also include photography by conducting photoshoots. Hannah has learned to use Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign in her course and understands how to efficiently use the software. Her magazine will feature articles on everyday feminism and empowered women as well as photographs with deeper meanings. Hannah will conduct research on feminist magazines and surveys to define her target audience and finalize ideas. My project is to create a magazine, so I will be mainly focussing on graphic design-to design the
pages, using photoshop and InDesign to make them look professional and realistic. I will also be
including elements of photography, for my magazine I don’t want to just concentrate on articles I
also will be conducting photoshoots for the magazine.
Rationale:
Before I started this year at college I hadn’t used Photoshop, Premiere or InDesign, however 7
months into the course I can successfully use all three. I understand the software’s and know how
to use them efficiently. I’ve created a double page spread, a front cover and started a contents
page, for this I used premiere and photoshop, I used skills and my knowledge of the software’s to
make the magazine as efficient as possible, I also conducted a photoshoot, using my photography
skills and spent time taking high quality photographs.
Project Concept:
My project is to create a feminist magazine/fanzine.
I have decided to create a magazine/fanzine because I don’t want a standard magazine, I want a
cut edge, interesting magazine/fanzine, that doesn’t just concentrate on articles but also features a
range of different artwork and photographs with deeper meaning. Some ideas for the articles in my
magazine are about; day to day feminism/sexism, different ways women are empowered, women
in media with high social status, the history of feminism and how far women have come.
So far, I have multiple different ideas, angles and different themes to have for my magazine and
the photoshoots.
To finalize my initial ideas, I will first have to conduct research so I can find as much information
and background knowledge about feminists, feminist magazines, what the target audience would
be for: a teen magazine, a 90s fanzine. I also would conduct surveys using @SurveyMonkey to
find what my target audience would be. Research is vital to my project because I want to make
sure my project can be as successful as possible, and research is a key part of the process to
create the magazine.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To evaluate and review my project I will have multiple power points explaining the process I went
through to create the magazine and then I will reflect on my work and analyse my strengths and
weaknesses throughout the project. This will help me in the future as well because in future
projects I can look where I went wrong.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Initial Ideas and Proposal  Start with creating my pre-proposal, where start
writing about my initial plans and goals for my
project. I write about my potential project and
details about target audience, what makes it
personal and the style of my project.
 I complete my skills audit about where my
strongest skills lie and why.
 Creating a mood board filled with photographs,
articles websites and different sources that will
motivate me through my project. Along with
writing to explain my thought process.
 After I analyse why my mood board is important
and how it will shape my project and the product.
 Then I will include three key influences that will
influence my project, I write in detail about what
they are and how/why they’ll influence me.
2 Research  Research will start with different analyses of
existing products, to give me a wider
understanding of products like mine and how
they produce them. I will write about the
similarities and differences in our products. Then
I will analyse my research and explain what
aspects I will include in my own product
 Then I will start audience research, this includes,
secondary and primary research, I research my
different audiences and discover what needs they
have that I will need to include, this will carry on
into the next week.
3 Research  I will finish completing the primary audience
research.
 Then complete my subject research.

experimenting with different techniques and
equipment, e.g. conducting photoshoots and
applying different effects to them.
