Production Reflection
Your Name
Process
• To start the game I
made a logo for a
production
company, to do
this I used my
initials and started
to design a random
logo, this is the
result of this.
Process
• Next I created an
opening animation
for the game, this
incorporated the
name of the game
into this, I had a
street and a
stadium, with the
name streets to
stadiums, this will
be the logo of my
game.
Process
• From here I created
the menu’s, there was
many separate menu’s
with similar designs
and fonts, this started
with the options to
start a career, exit the
game or look at the
instructions, and then
it goes to the career
menu from there, and
character menu after
that.
Process
• From there I created
my character, this
character is a pixelated
football character who
was designed to be
very pixel based rather
than detailed, there is
also a screen in which
you can customise
your character here, in
the face menu you can
change your skin tone
and eye colours.
Process
• Here is the hair colour
customisation screen, it
gives you plenty of
options and also gives
you a preview of how
the colour looks on
your character.
Process
• From here you go to the
hair and beard styles
customisation screen, it
gives you plenty of options
for different styles, this
makes the games character
more personal for certain
people, as they may have a
unique hairstyle or just
want the character to look
like themselves, and this
part of the customisation
screen makes this possible.
Process
• After this we have the kit
customisation options, this
includes the name and number, so
you have the option to choose
which number you play with as
well as the name on the back for
your shirt, as it may not always be
the same as your name, as many
people in real football have
different names on the back, this
makes the game more realistic as
well as possibly more unique to
the certain player. As well as this
there is the options to where you
change your sleeves, as some
people prefer long sleeves.
Process
• Next up is the boots customisation
screen, in this screen you can
change the colour of your boots,
this can make you pick the boots
you have in real life and make it
seem more personal to you. Also
on this screen there is a locked
section in which you can choose a
brand, this will be unlocked when
at one point in the story you get a
sponsorship with boots
companies, once you have them
all you can have any brand of boot
that you want.
Process
• That is the end of the
creation menu’s, it then
goes into the parts
where you choose your
name and your
nationality, as well as
the team that you
support.
Process
• After that the whole creation is
done and your character is now
complete, so you now get your
first major choice of the game,
which is which team you want to
sign for at the start of the game,
this screen shows you the amount
of money you will make at each
club, as well as what role you will
play once you get to the club, this
can also effect the way the media
portray you, for example you will
be more known the higher up in
the league system you get, but can
also be forgotten about quickly if
you get no game time.
Process
• Then I designed the loading
screen, which included a
news article on your
character signing for the
chosen team, to make this I
screenshotted google
chrome and used the layout
from there of the search
bars and other aspects, and
from there I designed a
sports news website, which
then had your signing as a
main news story.
Process
• Here the colour scheme of the game
changes as you have now signed for a
team, the colour scheme is always
relevant to the team you have
chosen, so here it is red and yellow, to
cover the two main colours usually
associated with Liverpool, the club
that was chosen, this also shows the
home menu, which has different
options, these being a skip to the next
event option, training, lifestyle, which
shows your relationships with other
people, such as teammates and the
media, and a shopping option, as well
as showing you what the next event
you have is, and also the league table
of the team that you play for, showing
you how well your team is doing.
Process
• Then the game advances to the
next event, this is a friendly
between Liverpool and Inter
Milan, as shown on the other
screenshot on the home screen.
There is a message displayed here
from the manager, this tells you
that you are not selected for the
game, this is because of the squad
role being a youngster, he tells you
to go and complete some training
to be in with a chance of getting
selected.
Process
• Next we have the training part of the
game, there are many different aspects of
this, these being shooting, passing,
dribbling, set pieces and penalties.
Selecting these takes you to the training
screen, which includes the drills for the
training, each gets harder the more you
train it, and if completed first time you get
+5 points on that stat, every attribute is
out of 100. This is the first part of the
game that gameplay is involved in, and it
is used as a sort of tutorial, as there are
instructions at the top of the screen which
detail the way you should be doing each
aspect of the game. This is repeated for
each part up until dribbling, as I added a
feature where you can only train up to 3
things a day, this stops people just having
great abilities and attributes in the game
straight away.
Process
• From here the club decides to
send you out on loan to get some
experience of first team football,
this is a realistic part of the game
as someone with this role at such
a prestigious club, this also makes
you aware that you have another
major choice to make when it
shows you the teams that you can
select from, this again shows you
the squad role you will have at this
club at the beginning, which is
important to the progression of
the game.
Process
• Here there is another news story
from the same design as
previously used when the
character signs for his main club,
this one details that your
character has gone out on loan
and has a small section stating
that the character will benefit
from this due to an increase in
game time, most players wouldn’t
bother to read such a thing but it
is a good touch to have as those
who like games such as this in
detail will like a feature like this as
it gives depth and realism to the
gameplay.
Process
• From here the colour
scheme is once again
changed as the club
your character plays for
has changed, therefore
the colours of the new
club are now the colour
scheme that the game
is presented in.
Process
• After this you then get
a message from the
club manager saying
about the next game,
for this game you have
the message that you
have been selected as a
sub.
Process
• This then goes into the first game of the mode, and
therefore the first experience of the gameplay of an actual
match.
• This screen was made through using the shape and pencil
tools, the pitch itself was made using multiple grids, as
seen in the second screenshot, the grids were used to
make sure that everything was symmetrical during the
design of the pitch, this makes sure that the game does
not look unprofessional and possibly rushed, as this
method took time but I believe it was worth it in the long
run as the screen looks smooth and all works together
very well.
• I also added a feature here where once you start the game
as a substitute you can skip until the point in which the
manager decides to take you off the bench, this gets rid of
needlessly watching the game when you know nothing to
do with your character can possibly happen, and means
you can skip to the interesting bits of the game that
matter to you and your player.
• As well as this in the game you get updates on what is
happening, for example in the bottom picture there is a
box filled with the colour of QPR indicating it is a moment
for them, and inside this box it tells you what is
happening, so for example in this it says ‘QPR are on the
attack’.
Process
• From here the part of the game when the character is
subbed onto the pitch starts, and his first opportunity
comes, this is an opportunity where you can either pass or
shoot, the decision is made to pass here as it seems as the
easier option in this situation.
• To make this I used previous designs that I had made, in
this it was the character from the home and the
customisation screens that was then shrunk down to be
made into an actual in game character, then this was
copied multiple times and edited using the pencil tool to
make different in game non-playable characters, one on
the same team as you, so a friendly non-playable
character, and two on the opposing team, a defender and
a goalkeeper.
• From this the first animation of in game play happens,
where he passes the ball slightly in front of the player, this
could look like a mistake and play into the hardness of the
game at the start, due to inexperience and not having the
greatest in game attributes, or this could be a tactical play,
as the player can run onto the ball to take a shot rather
than having to stand rigid and still before taking the shot
on, depending on which way you look at it either of these
can be plausible. The player attempts a shot on goal, but is
unsuccessful in doing so.
Process
• The next opportunity is then presented, in
this it is the 89th minute, meaning there is
one minute left to play in the game, and
your character is through on goal with an
opportunity.
• In order to make this screen I used the
same techniques as with the other
opportunity in the game, this was copied
over to keep the gameplay consistent,
although I moved a lot of the aspects to
make it different, as this was more of a
goal scoring opportunity than the last
one.
• The character scores in this and then a
goal graphic is shown across the screen,
as well as everything changing on the
game screen in reaction to the goal being
scored.
Process
• After this the player ratings screen
is shown, which shows you the in
game statistics therefore showing
you how you have performed in
the game and how this will effect
your career, for the short term.
This is shown through the
relationships of each aspect of the
team, as for each match you get a
manager, team mates, and fans
rating, then these average out to
make an overall rating, which can
effect your form and squad status,
if you consistently get good ratings
in games.
Process
• From there it is the end of the game’s
trial, there is a message shown which
instructs you on how to buy the full game,
and tells you that all your progress will
carry over and you can continue the
journey you have set up in the free trial.
• This is a good place to end a trial as it
gives the audience just enough of the
game to keep them wanting more, as they
have only played one actual game, and
they spent more time creating the
character, therefore will want to make
sure the time spent doing that is not
wasted, but also this doesn’t have too
much in it to make the audience bored of
the game before actually purchasing the
full version.

  • 4. Process • From here I created the menu’s, there was many separate menu’s with similar designs and fonts, this started with the options to start a career, exit the game or look at the instructions, and then it goes to the career menu from there, and character menu after that.
  • 5. Process • From there I created my character, this character is a pixelated football character who was designed to be very pixel based rather than detailed, there is also a screen in which you can customise your character here, in the face menu you can change your skin tone and eye colours.
  • 6. Process • Here is the hair colour customisation screen, it gives you plenty of options and also gives you a preview of how the colour looks on your character.
  • 7. Process • From here you go to the hair and beard styles customisation screen, it gives you plenty of options for different styles, this makes the games character more personal for certain people, as they may have a unique hairstyle or just want the character to look like themselves, and this part of the customisation screen makes this possible.
  • 8. Process • After this we have the kit customisation options, this includes the name and number, so you have the option to choose which number you play with as well as the name on the back for your shirt, as it may not always be the same as your name, as many people in real football have different names on the back, this makes the game more realistic as well as possibly more unique to the certain player. As well as this there is the options to where you change your sleeves, as some people prefer long sleeves.
  • 9. Process • Next up is the boots customisation screen, in this screen you can change the colour of your boots, this can make you pick the boots you have in real life and make it seem more personal to you. Also on this screen there is a locked section in which you can choose a brand, this will be unlocked when at one point in the story you get a sponsorship with boots companies, once you have them all you can have any brand of boot that you want.
  • 10. Process • That is the end of the creation menu’s, it then goes into the parts where you choose your name and your nationality, as well as the team that you support.
  • 11. Process • After that the whole creation is done and your character is now complete, so you now get your first major choice of the game, which is which team you want to sign for at the start of the game, this screen shows you the amount of money you will make at each club, as well as what role you will play once you get to the club, this can also effect the way the media portray you, for example you will be more known the higher up in the league system you get, but can also be forgotten about quickly if you get no game time.
  • 12. Process • Then I designed the loading screen, which included a news article on your character signing for the chosen team, to make this I screenshotted google chrome and used the layout from there of the search bars and other aspects, and from there I designed a sports news website, which then had your signing as a main news story.
  • 13. Process • Here the colour scheme of the game changes as you have now signed for a team, the colour scheme is always relevant to the team you have chosen, so here it is red and yellow, to cover the two main colours usually associated with Liverpool, the club that was chosen, this also shows the home menu, which has different options, these being a skip to the next event option, training, lifestyle, which shows your relationships with other people, such as teammates and the media, and a shopping option, as well as showing you what the next event you have is, and also the league table of the team that you play for, showing you how well your team is doing.
  • 14. Process • Then the game advances to the next event, this is a friendly between Liverpool and Inter Milan, as shown on the other screenshot on the home screen. There is a message displayed here from the manager, this tells you that you are not selected for the game, this is because of the squad role being a youngster, he tells you to go and complete some training to be in with a chance of getting selected.
  • 15. Process • Next we have the training part of the game, there are many different aspects of this, these being shooting, passing, dribbling, set pieces and penalties. Selecting these takes you to the training screen, which includes the drills for the training, each gets harder the more you train it, and if completed first time you get +5 points on that stat, every attribute is out of 100. This is the first part of the game that gameplay is involved in, and it is used as a sort of tutorial, as there are instructions at the top of the screen which detail the way you should be doing each aspect of the game. This is repeated for each part up until dribbling, as I added a feature where you can only train up to 3 things a day, this stops people just having great abilities and attributes in the game straight away.
  • 16. Process • From here the club decides to send you out on loan to get some experience of first team football, this is a realistic part of the game as someone with this role at such a prestigious club, this also makes you aware that you have another major choice to make when it shows you the teams that you can select from, this again shows you the squad role you will have at this club at the beginning, which is important to the progression of the game.
  • 17. Process • Here there is another news story from the same design as previously used when the character signs for his main club, this one details that your character has gone out on loan and has a small section stating that the character will benefit from this due to an increase in game time, most players wouldn’t bother to read such a thing but it is a good touch to have as those who like games such as this in detail will like a feature like this as it gives depth and realism to the gameplay.
  • 18. Process • From here the colour scheme is once again changed as the club your character plays for has changed, therefore the colours of the new club are now the colour scheme that the game is presented in.
  • 19. Process • After this you then get a message from the club manager saying about the next game, for this game you have the message that you have been selected as a sub.
  • 20. Process • This then goes into the first game of the mode, and therefore the first experience of the gameplay of an actual match. • This screen was made through using the shape and pencil tools, the pitch itself was made using multiple grids, as seen in the second screenshot, the grids were used to make sure that everything was symmetrical during the design of the pitch, this makes sure that the game does not look unprofessional and possibly rushed, as this method took time but I believe it was worth it in the long run as the screen looks smooth and all works together very well. • I also added a feature here where once you start the game as a substitute you can skip until the point in which the manager decides to take you off the bench, this gets rid of needlessly watching the game when you know nothing to do with your character can possibly happen, and means you can skip to the interesting bits of the game that matter to you and your player. • As well as this in the game you get updates on what is happening, for example in the bottom picture there is a box filled with the colour of QPR indicating it is a moment for them, and inside this box it tells you what is happening, so for example in this it says ‘QPR are on the attack’.
  • 21. Process • From here the part of the game when the character is subbed onto the pitch starts, and his first opportunity comes, this is an opportunity where you can either pass or shoot, the decision is made to pass here as it seems as the easier option in this situation. • To make this I used previous designs that I had made, in this it was the character from the home and the customisation screens that was then shrunk down to be made into an actual in game character, then this was copied multiple times and edited using the pencil tool to make different in game non-playable characters, one on the same team as you, so a friendly non-playable character, and two on the opposing team, a defender and a goalkeeper. • From this the first animation of in game play happens, where he passes the ball slightly in front of the player, this could look like a mistake and play into the hardness of the game at the start, due to inexperience and not having the greatest in game attributes, or this could be a tactical play, as the player can run onto the ball to take a shot rather than having to stand rigid and still before taking the shot on, depending on which way you look at it either of these can be plausible. The player attempts a shot on goal, but is unsuccessful in doing so.
  • 22. Process • The next opportunity is then presented, in this it is the 89th minute, meaning there is one minute left to play in the game, and your character is through on goal with an opportunity. • In order to make this screen I used the same techniques as with the other opportunity in the game, this was copied over to keep the gameplay consistent, although I moved a lot of the aspects to make it different, as this was more of a goal scoring opportunity than the last one. • The character scores in this and then a goal graphic is shown across the screen, as well as everything changing on the game screen in reaction to the goal being scored.
  • 23. Process • After this the player ratings screen is shown, which shows you the in game statistics therefore showing you how you have performed in the game and how this will effect your career, for the short term. This is shown through the relationships of each aspect of the team, as for each match you get a manager, team mates, and fans rating, then these average out to make an overall rating, which can effect your form and squad status, if you consistently get good ratings in games.
  • 24. Process • From there it is the end of the game’s trial, there is a message shown which instructs you on how to buy the full game, and tells you that all your progress will carry over and you can continue the journey you have set up in the free trial. • This is a good place to end a trial as it gives the audience just enough of the game to keep them wanting more, as they have only played one actual game, and they spent more time creating the character, therefore will want to make sure the time spent doing that is not wasted, but also this doesn’t have too much in it to make the audience bored of the game before actually purchasing the full version.
