QuasiCon 2014, "The Embedded Librarian: Reference Services in the Trenches"Jackie Wolf
This was a presentation as part of the UMSI student ALA QuasiCon 2014. QuasiCon is an un-conference conference which consists of a mixture of presentation, lightning talks, and discussion sections. I presented research I had done on embedded librarians for my class on "Information Resources and Services". The keynote speaker actually addressed the same topic, so we complimented each other quite well.
The research I did on embedded librarianship actually fed into my passion for fieldwork in UX, especially fieldwork where the researcher works side by side with the user.

Sociological Imagination
Paper Part 2 (Due Date
Updated to 03/31/19 by
11:59 PM)
A sociological literature review shows what you have read, evaluated, and
comprehended regarding your topic.
While literature reviews are generally based on numerous readings, for this assignment
you should find at least two external sources (strive for sociological sources) that
capture key areas of research on your topic.
Conducting this background research will sharpen your sociological imagination paper
topics!
Where can you find sources...?
Our library subscribes to several journals that may be relevant for your paper. To
access them, you need not be on campus, but log onto our library website and search
the digital resources. Academic Search Premier includes a number of sociology
journals, so you will likely have some luck there.
Visit the following link: http://alameda.peralta.edu/library/article-databases/ (Links to an
external site.)Links to an external site.
Some ideas for sources are the American Sociological Review, Journal of Ethnic and
Racial Studies, International Migration Review, Contexts, or any sociological research
that pertains to your topic.
You can also create an account with JSTOR and review up to three titles for a two week
period. See the following link:
http://about.jstor.org/rr (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Once you find two sources, read them carefully. Take notes on the research questions,
methods, main points, and your critique. Think about how the articles relate to your
specific research question(s).
Then, compose a two to three page literature review that builds on part I of your term
paper.
Be sure to address if there are any holes of shortcomings in prior studies and how they
should be remedied.
It is best to organize your literature review and include section subheadings. (See the
sample paper (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for inspiration) and
think of the following question -- how are you going to order your discussion of the
research?
1. Chronologically (by time if you have a historical paper)
2. thematically (by key themes that your paper will cover [ex. if you are writing
on health & aging I would include health and inequality; aging by place; and
empirical studies on aging and health),
3. conceptually (by key sociological concepts - ex. race, class, and gender)
4. methodologically (by the types of methods - quantitative or qualitative), or a
combination?
PLEASE USE APA FORMATTING
What section headings will you use? [See the sample papers that I've uploaded]
In Case you Need a Review the following discussion details what a literature review is

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
