Mastering a New Language for Student Development: Considering a Broader Theor...CIEE
As educators, we're aware of the importance of intercultural competency, but how can we better understand other cognitive and adaptive factors at play in Generation Study Abroad? As a necessary step in reinventing study abroad, we'll reexamine how students construct their experiences, how we can support their development, and the impact of study abroad on "meaning-making." Through the investigation of Robert Kegan's "Orders of Mind" and subject/object relationships and interactive discussion of his constructive developmental theory, participants will come away with practical tools to help students broaden their perspective before, during, and after study abroad.
A presentation delivered by Garry Cameron at the 'Learning & Teaching - All you need to know in half a day' workshop delivered at College Development Network on 25/10/16.
Description of the event:
"This half-day event will focus on the five main learning and teaching approaches and how they translate into practice. The event will revisit and reinforce key features and elements of the learning process – tried and tested methods and some of the things that were not known 10 years ago! Attend this event if you wish to ‘power up' learning and teaching approaches that evidence some of the ‘buzz' concepts in the sector. There will be a very short pre-entry task before attendance at the event that connects to the content. The content will be a mix of input, cooperative learning, and dialogue."

Train the Trainer: From Novice to Grandmaster (presented at eduWeb 2017)Katie Santo
As training facilitators we are entrusted with the responsibility of educating the masses. We teach sessions that are often required — and others attended by choice. Our material, whether it be the university-wide web content management system or the hot new social media platform, isn’t necessarily the most palatable to our participants. But there are things we can do as training facilitators to help prepare ourselves, our participants, and our training for success. This workshop includes best practices for training facilitators as well as role-playing activities designed to enhance your learning experience. From easy ways to create a safe learning environment to understanding the simple power of a question, you will learn how to turn a potentially transactional training session into a transformational training experience.

Teaching with Purpose: Creating a Positive Climate for Student Success Dr. Val Margarit
Each semester or school year creates an excellent opportunity for a fresh start for learning and achieving excellence. What happens on the first day of class often sets the tone for the entire semester. Students come to class with different expectations, skills, behaviors, and motivations. Effective teachers use students’ profile to inform their teaching practices and ensure every student achieves success.
Train the Trainer: Tips for Enhancing Employee Learning (Presented at HighEdW...Katie Santo
Let’s be honest: no one truly enjoys sitting through an hour or more of training that is required as part of their job. This is especially the case when said topic is less than exciting or ever so slightly technical in nature. “Come sit for an hour to learn a web content management system so I can update the university website? Well, that sounds super fun and at the top of my to-do list!” Said no one, ever. When it’s your job to facilitate training, it can be discouraging to know that your participants may not be as engaged in the topic at hand as you are. In this presentation, we’ll cover three things that you as a training facilitator can do to enhance the learning experience of your participants, so they walk away not only having learned the required material, but actually having enjoyed their time with you.

Ordinary to Extraordinary: The Role Each of Us Must Playcatapultlearn
Join us for an exciting session with educational thought leader Ray McNulty as he explores what causes one school to become a top performer, while most others seem to struggle with the same challenge. How do some schools seem to meet the needs of their students while others become dropout factories?
The lack of success in most systems isn’t not knowing what to do, but not instituting the needed changes effectively and with fidelity. In this webinar participants will learn about what it takes to become a high-performing education system in today’s rapidly changing world.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

6. WHAT SORT OF LEARNER
ARE YOU?
By now you should have an idea of the sort of learning category you fit
into. Most learners don’t fit into one particular category but more than
one.
Visual learners: The visual learning style, often referred to as the
spatial learning style, is a way of learning in which information is
associated with images. This learning style requires that learners first
see what they are expected to know (Spanella, T., 2003).
Auditory learners: you learn by hearing and listening. You understand
and remember things you have heard. You store information by the way
it sounds, and you have an easier time understanding spoken
instructions than written ones.
Kinesthetic: or tactile Learning is a learning style in which learning
takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than
listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations.
7. ABILITY TO ADAPT TO CHANGE
• You might find yourself
dealing with changes in
technology requirements.
