The document is a proposal form for a student's final major project - a short comedy film. It will use cloning techniques to feature the actor multiple times playing different character roles representing emotions/traits. The plot involves a boy deciding what to do after a girl asks for his number. The target audience is males aged 15-25 of social class C1 and below. To appeal to this audience, the film will use various comedy styles and themes they can relate to about love and decision making. The student will use software like Excel, Word, and Adobe programs to plan, produce and edit the film.

The media format I have chosen to create is a short film. The
style will be reminiscent of comedy sketches from shows such as
Mitchell and Webb, Harry Enfield and Chums and Little Britain.
These have all been influences in my project as well as other
comedy shows and films.
Synopsis of Idea (content,
narrative, genre)
As mentioned in the above section, the genre of the short film
will be comedy. However, the film may have elements and
themes of drama and coming of age, due to its plot and
characters. The film is heavily reliant on cloning and thus much
of the content will feature the actor appearing in the same
frame/shot twice (as different characters).
The short film begins with a boy being asked for his number by a
girl which shocks and takes him aback, which subsequently
leads to his emotions figuring out what to do. The film then goes
inside the boy’s head and into an ‘engine room’ where various
anthropomorphic emotions and characteristics of him are. They
all look like the boy with slight differences depending on what
they are. The characteristic in charge is ‘Common Sense’ and he
debates and argues with the others on what decision to make.
They argue about past decisions, the pros and cons of a
girlfriend and eventually come to a decision. The film’s ending
has not yet been decided as I have several in mind and will
choose the one I think best suits its style shortly prior to filming.
Some of the emotions/ characteristics/ feelings featured in the
film will be: Sadness, Anger, Libido, Supressed Intelligence and
Paranoia. There may or may not be others, with the final
characters being decided during the script writing process.
However, the above characters are ones that are very likely to
appear. The editing style will be done in a way to maximise
comic effect. For example, quick, fast paced cuts may be used as
well as various angles and shots. The humour and style of my
short film will not necessarily be thoroughly sophisticated but, it
will have a blend of ‘intelligent’ and ‘toilet’ humour through
physical comedy, cultural references and other comedic styles.
Target Audience?
(demographic NOT age range)
The target demographic for my audience will be the categories
C1 and down. The film is not aimed at any specific ethnicity nor
is it necessarily aimed at one gender. However, due to the
practically all-male cast it is likely that men will be more
attracted to it than women. Also, the film deals with various
emotions and feelings of men, so males may be able to connect
with it more. However, the general themes of love and decision
making along with the comedy are gender neutral. The age of
people this film will be targeted at will be around 15-25 year
olds.
How will your project meet
the needs of your target
audience?
My project will meet the needs of the target audience by being
funny, thoughtful and having themes which the audience can
connect with. People who watch comedies simply want to laugh
and enjoy the presentation before them. Therefore I will try to
include as many different comedic styles as possible to cater for

as many comedy lovers as possible. I am not focusing on one
specific form of comedy, instead electing to use various styles.
As the target audience for my project is teenagers and young
adults, I will try and use themes that they can connect with as
well as comedy they will enjoy. The humour in the film will be a
blend of different styles so as to cater to the needs of a general
audience. However, as the humour will be targeted at young
people, I will use humour and references that they are likely to
understand. For example, I have looked at comedies popular
with young people and have gained comedic influences from
them.
What production techniques
will you use to realise your
project?
Throughout this project, I will be using applications to ensure
that I keep up to date and on track with my various tasks. I have
created a ‘burn-down chart’ on Microsoft Excel, which I have
used to allocate weeks in which to complete various stages of
my work. I will also be using a production diary, where each
Friday I will complete a progress update for my project, based
on what I have accomplished in that week. I will then write in
detail my plans for the following week. I will use various
computer software during the ideas generation and research
stages of my project, such as Word, PowerPoint and
MindGenius. During the production phases of my work, I will
use a DSLR camera, a tripod and most likely a sound recorder to
gain optimum audio levels. I will primarily use Adobe Premiere
Pro during post-production editing of my project, though I may
also use Adobe After Effects if it is needed.
