The document discusses adjustments made to characters in an animated film to adhere to age rating guidelines. 1. In order to make this character appear darker within
my film, I made adjustments upon the characters
injuries. By giving the character this look, it is clear to
the audience what was the main cause of the character
eye injuries.This idea could seem inappropriate or
morbid, due to my film being an animation, the gore
would not be realistic within my film. Although, the
eye upon the stick is a small detail, the blood on the
character could be covered with plasters, like the
original therefore no detail could be shown. In order
to keep my film rated 12, I must apply to the BBFC’s
age certificate guidelines ‘there may be moderate
violence but it should not dwell on detail.There
should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but
occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified
by the context’.
Like my other character photo

too visually inappropriate for a
younger audience.Therefore
according to the BBFC’S
guidelines, this character could
be used within the background
of my film as it would then not
linger upon any details. I
personally like the overall
aesthetic of the character as he
looks very life like and
represents the age range of my
audience well.This
is an important
feature within my
production as this
makes my character
relatable towards
the audience.
For this character, I wanted the
aesthetic to represent the
characters personality and his
job role. I wanted the science
teacher to have a mad scientist
approach towards him, shown
stereotypically within his look.
This thus gives the audience
an impression on the scientists
personality as
an unhinged individual.

An adjustment I made within this character is his hair.
I found that the original hair did not match the
personality I wanted to represent and wanted my
character to have messy features such as his hair and
the necessary props for his job title and safety
element, to display visually.This new look of hair can
also foreshadow an accident or explosion linked with
chemicals within the children science lesson, but also
make the audience think if we can really trust all
adults and assess situations.
By introducing a very
dull colour scheme of
black and white, this
enhances the gothic
aesthetic. Due to the
characters gothic
aesthetic, I feel that
she would work well
in playing the part of
the protagonist as she
is very shy and timid.
Therefore some may think that she is gullible. this makes the morals
of the short film reliable and realistic in representing situations
towards the audience.When making my characters I will ensure that I
use a black white and purple colour scheme, limiting my use of
colours to create a gothic and horror connection between my film and
how this identify with the audience. After my feedback from my
audience I have decided overall that a female protagonist would be
well suited and has popular demand
from my target audience.
I have designed a school
uniform to set the scene of
my animation and suit that
characters within the
location however, I find
that my characters stand
out more when in their
own clothes as this
represents their personality
and individual characters
stand out. Although I find
the uniform affective
within these characters as
they are very gothic and contain a bland colour scheme.
