Firstly,Iaskeda verysimple questionbyaskingthe genderof the
surveyrespondent.Of the nine whotookmysurvey,six were male
and 3 were female, sothere wasa more male-leaning.However,as
the type of shortfilmIwant to do haspracticallyall-male
characters andas suchmale humour,thenI donot thinkthat thisis
a problem.
For the secondquestionIaskedhow oldthe personwas.All of the
respondentswere agedbetween18and 24. The reasonfor thisis
the fact I myself am18 yearsoldand thusthe majorityof the
people Idistributedittooare goingto be of a similarage.However,
I wantedyoungpeople tobe the respondentsforthe surveymore
than anyotherage group,as the shortfilmisagedat a generally
youngeraudience.However, itisalsoage-neutral inmanyways,soI
thinkI couldhave triedtoseekolderrespondentsforlessage-
biasedresults.
For the thirdquestioninmysurvey,Iaskedthe respondentwhattheir
favourite filmgenre was. Ididthisinorderto geta sense of what
youngpeople generallylikedandsoI couldpossiblyincorporatevarious
elementsof populargenresintomyshortfilm.Fourselectedcomedy,
whichI thinkshowsthatyoungpeople generallypreferthe genre.
Despite thembeingonlyfourof nine,Ibelieve that,fromexperience,
the resultswouldbe similaronabiggerscale.Twoselectedfantasy,
whichI thinkmyshort filmcanfall underandaction,science fictionand
horror receivedone selectioneach.
2. For the fourthquestioninmy survey,Iaskedpeople torate theirenjoyment
for the comedygenre outof 10. I didthisto see how many people enjoyed
comedyandhow theyratedit.The resultswere slightlymixedbutnoone gave
a rating lowerthansix,whichIthinkshowsanoverall enjoymentforthe genre
fromthe respondents.Italsoshowsthatyoungpeople enjoycomedyandrate
it highly.Twoanswered6,one answered7,twoanswered8,one answered9
and three answered10.Thisgivesan average score of justover 8 and I think
shows a bigenjoymentforcomedyamongstthe respondents.
For the fifthquestionIaskedthe respondentswhatwere theirview on
comedysketchshows,suchas Little BritainandThat Mitchell and
WebbLook.I believe myshortfilmideatobe inthe same style of a
sketch,inthe way itis quite madcap,fastpacedand self-contained.
For thisreason,I wantedtosee if people enjoyedsketchshows.The
resultswere verypositive,withfiverespondingwith‘Excellent’,three
with‘Good’and one with‘Average’.Ithinkthatthisshowsastrong
enjoymentforsketchshowsamongstyoungpeople. Italsoreinforces
my belief thatmyshortshouldappeal tothisage range.
For the sixthquestion,Iaskedwhatpeoplethoughtaboutacloning
comedyshort.Though my shortis aboutvariouspersonalitiesand
emotionsinteractinginthe mindof a teenager,the basicconceptof
cloningremainsandsoI keptthissimple theme whenaskingthe
question.Three selected‘Excellent’,fiveselected‘Good’andone
selected‘Average’.Thisshowsthatpeople generallylike the ideaandI
am pleasedwiththese results.Italsoshowsthatthe core conceptof
my shortfilmwill be enjoyedbythe respondents.
3. For the seventhquestion,Iaskedwhatpeople thought
makesa comedyfunny.There were variousresponses
but the general consensuswasthatthe jokeswere
witty,well-timedanddeliveredwell.Some respondents
alsobelievedchemistrybetweenpeople inacomedy
helpedittobe funny.The respondentshadvery
differentreasonsforwhattheythoughtmakesa
comedyfunny,thoughtheyall hadverylegitimate
answers.Iwill tryand use the suggestedreasonsduring
my shortfilm, asI hope by cateringformany different
people’scomedytastes,the projectwill be more
successful.
For the final questioninmysurvey,Iaskedwhatpeople
thoughtwouldmake the clone comedyfunny. People
had differentreasons,includinginvolvingpuns,
innuendoandsarcasm, as well asthe interaction
betweenthe clones.Iwill tryandcreate a good
chemistrybetweenthe charactersinorderto make the
filmmore believable aswell astryand use varioustypes
of jokestoappeal tomany differentpeople.Thiswill
include slapstick,wit,intelligence andreference
humour.
Overall,Ibelieve thatIgainedsome veryinformative andinterestinginformationfrommysurveyanditwill helpme
throughoutthe productionstagesof myproject.By usingsuggestionsfromrespondents,Ishall attempttocreate a
short thatcaters for manydifferenttypes of comedyfansbyemployingvariouscomedicapproaches.
