Group 6 aims to separate salt and coarse sand. Salt dissolved in water while sand remained insoluble, allowing filtration to separate them. Salt (35.5g) and sand (50g) were mixed in water (100ml) and stirred. The mixture was filtered, separating salt solution (98ml) from sand and filter paper (52.5g). Evaporating the salt solution yielded salt crystals (33.5g), with 2g lost in the sand and filter paper. Filtration separates insoluble solids from liquids using a porous medium to retain solids while allowing liquids to pass.
