Film Poster Analysis- Saw 2 Theatrical Poster
- 1. Saw 2 is a 2005 American/Canadian horror film, a sequel to the 2004's saw and the second film in the 7 film franchise. This is the theatrical poster for the film.! ! The main image shows the main character of the Saw films. For fans of the first film, they will be able to easily identify the iconic character. This character takes up at least half of the poster to show its significance in this film. The power of this character is presented to be very high as its at the top of the poster and it takes up a large amount of the space. The red eyes looking down symbolise blood and death, whilst also emphasising the characters power that it may have over others.! ! The dark background helps emphasise the dark atmosphere and tension that this film poster is trying to create. The dark background also allows for the audience to clearly recognise that this may be horror film! ! The title of the film is near the centre of the film poster. This allows for the audience to clearly recognise and identify the movie that this poster is advertising. The font of the title seems to be made of ‘scratch marks’ which symbolises the theme of horror as well as describing the film and its contents. e.g the scratch marks show that there is going to be some pain/torture in this film and people are going to try and escape. To show that this is a sequel and the 2nd film in the series they have used bruised/dirty fingers to show the pain and torture people will have to suffer through in this film.! ! Below the film title is the tagline 'Oh yes... There will be blood.", this tells us that the movie will show blood and a lot of pain/torture/death. This also suggests the killer/torturer will enjoy the blood/pain/torture. This gives a slight insight to the films content and may persuade people to see the film if that is what they are seeking.! ! This film poster includes the main codes and conventions of film posters in general and horror film posters specifically. Due to the colour scheme, tagline and other hints at the films content and genre this film is most likely aimed at a predominantly male audience.
