Mayor Firmino Filho of Teresina, Brazil outlines challenges facing the city from climate change including increased flooding, high temperatures, and dry weather. To address these issues, the city has undertaken several resilience projects including constructing the North Lagoon Complex to tackle flooding and landslides, developing a Bus Rapid Transit system and green spaces to reduce the heat island effect, and creating a drainage master plan. Future challenges include dealing with fires during dry periods, reducing greenhouse gases, fully implementing the drainage master plan, and developing a comprehensive urban resilience plan.
