This document summarizes the history and development of the Ferrara ring for treating keratoconus over 30 years. It discusses early research in the 1980s-1990s, the first surgical case in 1991 using a partial ceratectomy technique, and the development of the tunnelization technique and related patents in the 1990s. It also describes improvements to ring design, establishment of nomograms, long-term follow up of cases, and Ferrara Ophthalmics' involvement in research, courses, and international meetings over the past 20+ years to advance the technique.
