Warm Up

1. Write the equation of a line passing through the
  points (2, -2) & (3,2)
2. Two hamburgers and three cokes cost $10.50. Four
hamburgers and four cokes cost $18.00. Find the cost of
a hamburger and a coke. 4. A ring costs $1590 after a 6%
sales tax. What was the pre-tax
 3.
                            cost of the ring?
                5. 120% of what number is 42?
                 6. Factor: (x2 + 16)

Factoring Difference of Squares 2

1. 64x2− 25

              2. 49x2−16

                           3. 400x2−9
Review: Factor by Grouping
  Example 1: x3 – 3x2 –16x + 48
Step 1: Arrange the terms so that the first two terms have a
common factor and the last two terms have a common factor.
         x2 (x-3) –16 ( x – 3) (x2 – 16)(x – 3)

When the first term of the second group is negative, change
both signs before factoring. (Explanation to follow)
                   – (16x – 48)
Review: Factor by Grouping
Example 2: 2ac + 4ax - 5c – 10x
  = (2ac + 4ax) - (5c + 10x) = 2a(c + 2x) - 5(c + 2x)
 = (c + 2x) (2a - 5) Foil the two binomials to check.

Example 3: = (x + 9)(2 – y)

                        Last Example:

Example 4: ac +bc + a + b

4. Write an expression for the
     area of the rectangle.

A. x2 - 20 C. x2 – 20x - 1
B. x2 – 9x – 20 D. x2 – x – 20
