1. Family Relationships Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricate theme of family relationships is both a challenging and
rewarding endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the broad spectrum of emotions and dynamics
inherent in familial bonds but also in the delicate balance required to navigate the nuanced
terrain of personal experiences and universal truths.
To begin with, one must grapple with the diverse nature of family relationships. Each family is a
unique ecosystem, shaped by cultural, societal, and individual factors that contribute to a
complex web of connections. Attempting to capture the essence of these relationships requires a
keen understanding of the multifaceted roles that family members play and the interplay of
emotions that define their interactions.
Moreover, the challenge intensifies when delving into the intricacies of interpersonal dynamics.
Family relationships are often layered with a myriad of emotions, ranging from love and support
to conflict and tension. Striking a balance between highlighting the positive aspects and
addressing the complexities requires a thoughtful and nuanced approach to ensure a
comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Furthermore, the personal nature of family relationships adds another layer of complexity.
Writers must navigate the fine line between sharing personal anecdotes to illustrate broader
points and respecting the privacy of their own and others' experiences. Balancing the universal
themes with individual narratives demands a delicate touch to resonate with a diverse audience
while maintaining authenticity.
In conclusion, tackling the theme of family relationships in an essay demands a skillful blend of
empathy, insight, and writing prowess. It involves navigating the intricate tapestry of human
connections, understanding the emotional nuances, and weaving a narrative that captures the
essence of familial bonds. Despite the challenges, the process is rewarding as it allows for a
deeper understanding of the human experience.

2. The Shroud Of Turin Analysis
The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth bearing the image of a man who
appears to have suffered from physical harm in a fashion resembling Roman
crucifixion. This image, in accordance with the belief of millions, is the imprint of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth. However, there is much indecision over its authenticity.
Science has not yet come to a conclusion on the legitimacy of the Shroud. This paper
will present the evidence for both the Shroud of Turins authenticity (that it was the
burial cloth of Jesus), and the reasons for the belief for its possible forgery.
The Shroud of Turin is currently preserved in an underground vault in the Cathedral
of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, within a climate controlled casket. The
material measures 4.4meters by 1.9meters. Down the center of the ... Show more

Frederick Zugibe examined the Shroud and how accurately the injuries matched the
process of crucifixion. He looked at how the nails were driven through the hands and
feet. The shroud shows a pool of blood near the one visible wrist and the feet looked
punctured as if by one nail. Also, as the romans strike the nail into each hand, the
nerve damage causes the thumb to twist inward and under the palms. A thorough
examination of the shroud revealed exactly this. The thumbs were hidden underneath
the palms, just as one would expect. The facial imprint wasn t symmetrical and
showed signs of a beating.
Blood flowing from small cuts that seeped into the material made by the crown of
thorns accurately matched the trail the liquid would follow when the forehead
muscles contract in pain. Lacerations covered the back and a pool of blood was
identified in the upper side of the torso, with blood flowing down from that place. All
these injuries were consistent with Jesus described execution. Zugibe stated that from
the Forensic Pathology point of view, it is totally consistent with a crucified
individual. I have no doubts at
3. Karl Marx And Max Weber
In the modern world, what are the sources of class struggle? Is there/are there class
struggles and classes that are primary, and if so, what? Do these class struggles
inevitably lead to revolution?
Karl Marx (1818 1883) and Max Weber (1864 1920), both social scientists, dedicated
much of their time and work towards the common goal of interpreting the causes and
effects of capitalism. They did this by creating a sense of understanding (not only for
themselves but for others as well) in regards to capitalism s construction, foundation,
mechanism, and its future. In their assessments of capitalism, both Marx and Weber
appear to have two different conclusions based on comparable as well as noticeably
dissimilar factors. As a result of Marx and Weber s different approaches, in regards to
capitalism, both of their understandings and beliefs of the causes, effects and the
future of capitalism and class struggle share certain ideas however, part in others.
Marx s conception of history and society s future is illustrated through constant
class struggle. In fact, Marx s sociology is more often than not called The
sociology of class conflict (Priya, 2015). The idea of class struggle or conflict
surfaces from the concept of materialism (or greediness) throughout history and
constant surplus value. Surplus value is the difference between a worker s wages
(also known as exchange value) and the value of goods and services he or she
produces (also known as use value)
4. Analysis Of The Afterlife By Lance Armstrong
There are no heroes... in life, only the monsters win . To John Richardson this quote
could not be anymore true. In Richardson s article, The Afterlife, he writes about
Lance Armstrong s miraculous recovery from testicular cancer to winning the Tour
de France seven consecutive years in a row, and becoming a hero to cancer patients
around the world, to then becoming the greatest cheater of all time. No man has
ever been looked up to so much by so many people and then despised by everyone
until Lance Armstrong. By analyzing Richardson s use of interviews, perfect heroes,
and Armstrong s blood, we can clarify his argument: that Armstrong became the
greatest cheater of all time, and he does not apologize for it. The interview with the
Livestrong president, Doug Ulman, tells us something very surprising. After people
had discovered that all of Armstrong s winnings were won by blood doping, he had
been kicked out of his own organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Once he
had been kicked out, they changed the name from The Lance Armstrong Foundation
to The Livestrong Foundation. No one wanted Lance Armstrong s name associated
with their organization, or with anything in fact. It was then assumed that Armstrong
would never be accepted back into his foundation, but Ulman tells us [i]f he decided
that being a leader in the cancer community is what he wants to spend his life
doing... the foundation would welcome him Wood 2 back (Richardson 83). This was
news to Richardson and
5. Essay Divorced, Beheaded, Survived
B ...Divorced, Beheaded, Survived A short story written by Robin Black in 2010.
Death is an issue everybody has to face at some point in their lives. The only thing
we know for certain as human beings is that we are mortal. We do not know why
we are here and how we got here, however we definitely know that someday we are
going to die. Nevertheless, death is also a very vulnerable topic and it is difficult
to know how to handle it when and we all have different ways of dealing with death.

From line 52 to 65 we are introduced to Sarah s contemporary family, her children
and her husband. Then another flashback appears and the tense switches from
present tense to past tense. From line 65, page 3, to line 126, page 5, we hear
about the car accident through dialogues from the day it happened and through
passages of descriptions. Subsequently the tense switches from past to present
from line 127 to 130 where Sarah describes her feelings about Terry s death. In this
passage she reflects about the fact that when you are dead, as loved as you may be,
you may also be forgotten. There appears another flashback from line 131 to line
147 where Sarah memorises an episode ten years ago where she decided to put away
a picture of Terry as soon as Mark was old enough to ask questions because the line
between Mark and Terry was too easily drawn. She hides the picture in the dresser
where she also keeps her gloves and her really fine scarves, which is a symbol of
her protecting her brother and maybe the gloves are a symbol of Sarah still
holding him tightly with her hands, heart and memory. From line 147 to 156 the
tense goes from past to present again. She is describing how Mark handles the
death of Peter and how his little sister Coco is worried about him because he does not
speak to his friends. However, because Sarah has experienced death in an early age
too, she is not
6. Death Of Death By Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson like many poets of her lifetime was misunderstood and isolated.
Her poetry was reflection her frustrations and her obsession with the unexplainable.
She was rejected by society as well as her mentors due to her ideas and dark poetry.
As time went by she became withdrawn, devoting her life to perfectionalize her
writing. It was during this period of isolation that Dickinson wrote some of her
greatest work, for instance Because I Could Not Stop For Deathpublished in 1890
after her death. Personification, symbols, and the setting are use to illustrate and
maintain the strong theme of death through the poem.
Death is given human characteristics. Dickinson personifies death as a suitor who
is kind and polite. He goes out of his way to take the poet on a carriage ride. She is
seduced by his charm and the poet gladly gives up her life to join him. Death
drives without haste or force he is mindful of the condition of the poet. She is
slowly dying but she is relief and competent with the painless death. Once again
death is personified as a dedicated lover who is willing to do anything to take care
of his beloved. Death comes as a gentleman, motivated by humble intentions, and
concerned only with carrying the lady her bridal room in heaven...death as lover
(Griffith 56). As a the poem continues a drastic is changed is made and the poet is
betrayed by death and her chaperon immortality . Death is now arrogant and
malicious; when the poet becomes

No wonder then that the Shi a approach to women s rights is evolving . Hassan

with the Prophet s daughter Fatima who brought an incredible insight into the history
of the Islam and was the fiercest defender of Ali s right to succession. Also Zeynab,

various ideas when picking a day care center. They also must think about what is
best for their child s development whether it be social, physical or cognitive. There
are various pros and cons to sending your child to day care and decide if it is right for

Not all daycare centers do this for the parents but they should, to make it easier on the
parents (Shellenbarger, 2000).
When sending your child to a day care center, you should also keep in mind the
requirements of these centers according to Unites States model building codes.
Child day care centers are found in all kinds of areas whether it is a small or large
town or building. Many are commercial ventures but enough are found inside the
homes of your average family. These child day care centers are licensed by most
states and the regulations require approval by the local fire marshal. According to
the model building codes, for it to be considered an education use group day care
center, the center must provide space for more than five people over the age of 2 ВЅ
for less than 24 hours a day. There are many regulations that are going to be found in
a day care center that is up to building code (Corbett, 1998).
Here are some of the things that parents might want to inspect before deciding to
send their child to a specific center. For one thing it should meet the occupant load
that is said to be that there should be 20 square feet per person in the room. Some
states lower this amount when it relates to classrooms for the benefit of the children.
The location of the building is also important to look into before

companies want to make as much money as possible from their clients without
spending a dime on them. There are nearly 50 million Americans without health

insurance; for the reason that the insurance providers like to give coverage to
younger and healthier individuals, while the people in need of insurance are seen
as a harmful to the health provider s profits and are denied to sign up for the

terrifying the shark remains. The movie s disadvantage is to deliver the story live and
make it interesting enough to hold the viewer s attention for about two hours. The
director must distinguish what to eliminate from the book to keep the film
20. Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment
Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment:
In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety
assessment for the product. In the recombination process of making this product,
Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We
use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved sequence for Plac promoter and
gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to regulate its
expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG.
A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene
escaping into the environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria
via trans conjugation will cause unexpected genetic combinations. This method is
implemented by using recipient plasmid with suicide gene gef from E.coli, with
expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence, which present
upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene.
The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until
its physiological function was activated by specific signal. In developing this
product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the chemical suicide signal. Following the
addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be activated, and lead to the
activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells and the
cell growth will decreases as the cells die.

21. Theme Of The Hero s Journey In The Hunger Games
The young adult novel of Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games is an epic story that
represents the hero s journey of Katniss Everdeen, an ambitious teenager who fights
for survival against the oppressive government. The hero s journey is the story of
an epic hero s adventure as he or she meets and overcomes multiple challenges and
obstacles through each of the twelve stages. Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, is a
well known example that portrays the heros journey. The Hunger Games is a modern
work, popular among teenagers, that follow up to the steps of the hero s journey.
In the beginning of the journey, protagonist Katniss Everdeen s ordinary world is
introduced. This is where the epic hero s background, personal history, or everyday
life is presented. The epic hero s life is usually shown as situational or uncomfortable
so the audience can identify the protagonist through sympathy. Katniss lives in the
poor, oppressed community of what is called District Twelve, in the country of
Panem. There are limited food rations and many of the people of the District are
starving, just like the other eleven Districts. The citizens of Panem live under a
totalitarian government called the Capitol. The Capitol annually forces children of
ages twelve and up to fight to the death in the nationally televised Hunger Games.

23. The Fantasy Story
Today I #8217;d like to tell you about fantasy literature. It is very hard to tell all
about it but I #8217;ll try to do it as good as possible and not being boring. First
fantasy motifs were shown in romanticism. We all know the mystical and unreal
characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for building the special mood and charm
of that epoch used that figures.
But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner
experiences of the main character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of
explaining the unreal and difficult to understand visions or event. In the course of
time it began to live it #8217;s own life more and more the writers started to use
these motifs. And what had happened? They created ... Show more content on

But one day, after many happy years on the throne, they got lost in a forest. While
walking the trees became coats and they suddenly fell out of the closet. Long years
in Narnia were just few minutes in the human world. Children have big
imagination so crossing the line between fantasies and real is not a problem, but it
is a big challenge for readers. Lewis created the magic land and as he once said:
#8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon, stars and Aslan,
there is no doubt: this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;. The
next kinds, beloved by fantasy fans are #8220;never lands #8221;. They are
perfectly defined by one of first never lands creators Lord Dunsany. He named it as
places #8220;beyond the fields we know #8221;. And we are really crossing the
line of human perception. Authors don #8217;t blink their eye, don #8217;t pretend
like in the Venice carnival. Not everything is from the beginning land of fantasy.
Tolkien made never lands legal, gave them autonomy and independence, full rights
in authors imagination. He said that artistic imagination has no borders and cannot
be restricted by what is real. We can see what we want to see, also the land of
never. Never lands can use the cultural heritage of our world, but it all depends on
the author. Of course playing in never lands must be based on understanding and
agreement between writer and reader, we have to accept all the rules and it

My name was Iris Edwards when I started at PCC. Divorced three times; finally
realizing that it was time for me to make changes in my life. The first thing was to
take my maiden name back. Iris Jackson is the name I want to appear on my AAS
degree. My mother always wanted me to return to school and complete my education.
She passed in 2005, and will not get to be a part of my finally receiving my degree.
However, I know she would have been proud of me. At age 59 I started school again;
this would be a challenge for me because I have a hearing loss in both of my ears.

When I started at Literacy I was not sure how I would fit with their program. The
literacy program helps people to prepare for their high school equivalency test; learn
English as a second language; help with reading, math, and basic computer. When
I first started working at Literacy I worked the front desk as a receptionist; assisted
students who needed help with any computer issues, and instructed students in
keyboarding. This was good, but I did not see what it had to do with Human
Service. Well, I was asked if I wanted to be a tutor, and if so in what area. I chose to
help students learn to read; reading is something I am passionate about. I feel if a
person can read they can accomplish anything.
One year ago, I was assigned a student who was reading at a 2nd grade level. This
was the Human Service part of the job that I had been waiting for. Today, this
student has improved not only in his reading, but he is doing algebra. This makes my
heart rejoice to see his progress. He is 59 years old and has set a goal is to receive his

I still work at LVPC as a work study student; doing all the social media pages for

25. Phonological Development in Children
Phonology is study of the sound system of the language and the rules for their
combination. There are about 200 sounds used in languages throughout the world. As
we all know, sound is the beginning of language learning. In learning to talk,
children must acquire knowledge of the phonological forms of words and phrases of
their native language and must learn the articulatory and phonatory movements
needed to produce these words and phrases in an adult like manner. Children learn
their phonological system of native language even since as young infant. They first
year of an infant s life which is before they can utter their first word are known as
prelinguistic stage. Children do not utter their first word until they are about one...

The production of vowel sound in the first 2 month lead to the production of
consonants. First back consonants ([g], [k]) are being produce around 2 to 3

about 6 months old. In the range 3 to 6 month, babbling begins influence by their

start to produce double syllables VCV such as aga. Children are also able to puts
lips together and say m and nasal tone is heard. Not only that, they also begin to
vocalize their pleasure and displeasure. Infants in this range will stop vocalizing
when adults enters and have self initiated vocal play. They are also cooing, chuckling,
gurgling and laughing. At 7 months, they able to segment word from speech that
shows a strong weak stress pattern, which is the most common stress pattern in the
English language. The process that allows infant to use prosodic cues in speech input
to learn about language structure is known as prosodic bootstrapping . While children
at 8 months old generally do not understand the meaning of the most single word yet,
they still able to understand the meaning of certain phrases they hear a lot. By 9
months old, infant can differentiate native from nonnative language. Children uses

26. Is Hamlet Crazy
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a play of love, deception, betrayal and death. The
death of king Hamlet set in motion a tragic chain of events. Hamlet Jr finds out
through the ghost of king Hamlet his death was not accidental rather murder a
heinous act committed by his own brother. Hamlet then under orders of his father
plans to seek revenge on Claudius which causes him to ponder and act up. Hamletis

To illustrate, Polonius declares Yet he knew me not as first he; he said I as a

love, very near this (2, 2, 205 208). It is possible that for a moment Hamlet lost his
mind because of Ophelia s rejection it is just another problem added to the weight
on his shoulders. Love has the capability of destroying a person s life. For Hamlet
Ophelia s rejection was what made him lose himself for a moment, because she was
the person he loved and hoped he has been told by his father s ghost he was murdered
and asks him to get revenge, but this troubles Hamlet. He is not sure as to whether
what the ghost said is true. For example, Hamlet suggests The spirit that I have see

out of my weakness and my melancholy (2, 2, 627 630). . . Hamlet has just been

27. Personal versus Public Poetry
Personal vs. Public Poets write poetry to express their inner thoughts and views. In
Seamus Heaney s poem From the Frontier of Writing, Heaney describes how the
publics react to his poetry. Heaney does this by portraying the process of going
through a military transport. Heaney shows a conflict between his inner thoughts and
the public s reactions to them. This creates tension between the personal and the
public. Throughout this poem, Heaney portrays the process of going through a
military transport.
He makes the reader feel as if they are the ones going through the process by his use
of you, your, and you re throughout the poem. Heaney tries to use this poem to show
the reader his feeling towards the media and critic of his poetry. Heaney uses images
of hostility by the soldiers in stanzas 1 6 to express how he feels when someone
criticizes or reads his poem. Heaney faces readers and critics inspecting his poetry
such as, troops inspect [the car s] make and number (Heaney, line 2 3). Heaney
feels as if the critiques are marksmen, training down out of the sun upon [him] like
a hawk, (Heaney, lines17 18). Heaney fears of judgment as the critiques, eyeing
with intent, inspect his poem (Heaney, line 5). In the last two stanzas, there is a
shift in tone as Heaney feels that the critics and readers are gone. Suddenly, Heaney
feels, arraigned yet freed, as he finally passes through the soldiers or critics (Heaney,
line 19). This shows the relief he feels when
28. Catch 22 By Joseph Heller
Lieutenant General Kenneth James once said: War doesn t make boys men it
makes men dead. This quote relates directly to the environment created in the
novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. In the novel, Heller depicts a WWII army base on
the island of Pianosa containing self interested soldiers, each with their own
abnormalities. These soldiers have to complete a certain amount of missions in
order to be sent home, however, once the soldiers get near the total number required,
the higher ranked officials raise the number of required missions, making it
impossible to be released. As a result, Heller argues that figurative and literal death
is inevitable as the war is inescapable due to the corruption of high ranked officials.

Peckem ends up losing the position to Scheisskopf. When Peckem learns the news

The price per kilowatt hour has increased almost 50% in 10 years (EIA, 2014).
Thus to the consumer the price of energy is a big concern and the costs will most
likely continue into the future. There is potential for an increased demand to
replace aging inefficient appliances that are causing increased electrical bills for
consumers. The energy cost and potential benefits to the consumer are of
importance when determining the future of this project. The project is forecast to
be of a positive value if the demand for refrigerators is at an average or strong
demand from consumers. However, the realization of a high or average demand is
mainly based on gut feeling rather than on sound financial information. There are
too many variables in the marketplace that could cause demand to be weaker than
projected. Such variables as a weak economy or recession could cause sales to drop
which in turn would cause the project to lose its value quickly. 2) What is the
project s cost of equity? What is the appropriate discount factor to use for evaluating
the refrigerator project? As seen in Exhibit I below, the project s cost of equity
(COE) is calculated to be 13.487%. We found this value by using the Capital Asset
Pricing Model (CAPM) formula by adding the treasury note yield with the beta value,
then taking the market return rate and subtracting the treasury note yield. We then
multiply those values together to attain the cost of equity value of 13.487%. This

production, Troll, includes: directly addressing the audience/breaking the fourth wall,
actors performing as multiple characters, and incongruent humour. As a school
performance, the actors introduced themselves prior to the performance, introducing
the audience to the first alienating epic theatre convention: breaking the fourth wall.
By breaking this fundamental wall , the audience endures a discomfort that is not
seen in Stanislavski s method of acting, realism, alienating the audience, crush[ing]
traditional realistic/naturalistic conventions (Thedramateacher.com, 2018). This
technique is utilised when Nicole freezes the scene and directly speaks to the
audience, narrating, giving context to the scene or to her character s relationship with
the other character. There are numerous instances of actors throughout the
performance dropping and adopting characters, each with a new gestus. This
convention further alienates the audience if the transformation between characters is
done on stage, before the audience s eyes. An instance of this Epic convention
occurring in the performance has the character, Nicole, with a gestus of a
stereotypical teenage girl. During the transition to the next scene, the actor strips off
her skirt, undoes her hair, to then tuck under a flat cap, adopting a new gestus: a
cocky jock, all before the audience. This effect reinforces the audience of the idea
that this performance is being made by the actors in front of them, a concept inherent
31. Persuasive Essay About Water Bottles
Water bottles have not always been around and ever since their popularity began
the debate over whether or not people should have them has been a controversial
topic. Some argue that they not only create unneeded pollution, but are also
unnecessary since tap water is available. While some say this, others will counter
by discussing the benefits of having a healthy option for a drink on the go. Using
water bottles is a means to help people have easier access to a healthy vital life
necessity no matter where someone might be. First, some people that do not believe
in the use of water bottles would look at one that has one and be absolutely

This may be a good idea, but the reality of the situation is that most people would not
take the money that was spent on water and give it to charity; instead, they would use
it to buy something else that they want. For this reason and so many more, getting rid
of the bottled water industry is simply not the answer. Creating foundations and
proceeds from buying certain products is a better option to ensure that developing
countries are getting the help they need while still being able to keep bottled water
on the shelf for purchase; for example for each case of water purchased a portion of
the money will go towards helping to get clean water to certain countries. Overall,
the good outweighs the bad when it comes to discussing the need of water bottles,
and by using them people can always have an important life necessity; hopefully in
the future when people purchase any brand of water they can feel that they are doing
good for countries by knowing that some of the cost went towards helping others

Health is determined by some social conditions such as people s work, area of birth,
living and working environment. it also includes housing, education, built
environment, financial security, and the health system. The world health organisation
(WHO) stated that the above conditions are influenced by some very powerful forces
which include social policies, economic policy, and political instances.
However, the term social determinants are nowadays greatly perceived as the

34. Comparing Thomas Hobbes And John Locke s State Of
Nature
Hobbes and Locke have very different ideas on property, which is a result of their
views on the state of nature. In Hobbes state of nature, no one owns property but
rather they live and maintain whatever land they are capable of. This is because
Hobbes state of nature is under the mindset that every man is for himself and
against all other men. These ideas are what leads Hobbes state of nature to be
described as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short (Hobbes). On the other hand,
Locke s state of nature is not the everyday war of Hobbes , but rather a place where
everyone was to get along and respect the rights of others. In Locke s state of nature
it is possible to own property and it was quite easy to do so. Therefore, the difference

Property was able to be acquired in Locke s state of nature because he believed that
people were their own property and were able to acquire more property by
applying labor into common resources. For example, if a man was to find a piece
of land that was unclaimed, he could build a house on it and it would become his
property. Unclaimed land being so easily claimed as property is important to
Locke as he believed that cultivated land is more valuable than unused land,
especially once people are in society. Hobbes believed that people leave the state of
nature to join a society to preserve himself, his liberty, and property, which are
rights that Locke believed people were born with. Those rights are how the idea of
exchanging property came about. Instead of every man supplying everything they
need, in a society they would be able to exchange property amongst the other
(Locke). For example, a farmer could trade corn for wool, now the farmer is no
longer dependent on just himself and his property. Exchanging property was also a
good motivator for the people of the society has profit could be made from these
exchanges. Locke also believed it was the right of the individual to own their
property without worrying about the government. The government was not able to
take over someone s property without their consent, but they were allowed to place a
taxation over property only if it was necessary to preserve the government. Hobbes
believed that individuals had the right to own property whether it be physical goods
or land and that these rights existed in the state of nature and in society, under a
government where the government s purpose was to further protect the individuals

36. Report Of A Devastating Famine Of Malawi
Reports of a devastating famine in Malawi first surfaced as rumors coming from
rural areas of the country around October 2001. Malawians in the cities, including
government officials in Lilongwe, the capital, were slow to believe, or act on, the
persistent accounts. Even when well known advocacy groups like the Malawi
Economic Justice Network (MEJN) and the Catholic Commission for Justice and
Peace presented data to back up the reports, they were dismissed as lacking
credibility. But incredible as it may have seemed, Malawi hardly a desert state, but a
densely populated country in a lush region really was facing catastrophic food
shortages in the wake of a combination of flooding and a regional drought, and after
over a decade of structural adjustment policies designed by the IMF.
The crisis in rural Malawi finally hit the headlines on February 22, 2002, when MEJN
succeeded in attracting attention to its call for government and donor action. It
dewmanded that the Government should acknowledge that there is hunger in
Malawi; make the holding of maize a crime, subsidize the price of maize in Malawi;
government and civil society should provide food supplies to vulnerable groups. At
this point, the mainstream international media started broadcasting reports of a famine
emergency, desperation and critical food shortages.
An international blame game has emerged between the government of Malawi and
the IMF. Malawi s President, Bakili Muluzi, declared: The IMF is to blame
37. Advantages Of Conversation Analysis
What is a conversation? A conversation is referred to as a spontaneous, impromptu,
everyday exchange of talk between two or more individuals. The participants in a
conversation take turns and during their turn each makes a conversational move of
some kind, this is seen as a form of sociability and reflects an individual s ability and
willingness to interact with others. People gather their construction of a conversation
together, cooperatively, and they deal with the gatherings of the conversation at local
level, one utterance at a time (Parker 1999).
Conversation analysis is an approach to the study of human interaction in society
which embraces verbal and nonverbal conduct in situations of everyday interchanges.
There may be a misinformed view that this analysis only focuses on the sociable
nature of the conversation, but in reality, it encompasses conversations of all sorts,
from informal and formal to technologically mediated conversations. Conversation
analysis is broad in scope but one of the things that differentiate ... Show more content

benefit of using conversation analysis, it focuses on naturally occurring data and not

limitations to this approach as well such as the fact that it can be time consuming
and therefore requires a great deal of patience and dedication to go through
numerous and long transcripts of conversations. It can also be costly. Often it also
requires specialised training in the Conversation Analysis methodology if it is going
to be done well. This analytic approach is also very sensitive to misinterpretation and
over interpretation therefore member checking becomes very crucial (LaVelle
38. Honey Bee Disappearing
A Bee line Towards Extinction The worker bee, the most common type of honey
bee and the one most people encounter, is an insect who surprisingly keeps the world
afloat. Bees provide food, renewable resources, and pollination for the ecosystem for
over a hundred million years. However, these hard workers are disappearing for
reasons outside of standard instances. Scientists call this predicament Colony
Collapse Disorder, or CCD for short, and it is affecting all life on Earth. For example,
since 2006, bee keepers lost over 30% of their colony. The only acceptable loss was
15%. In 2015, bee keepers lost 44% of their honey bees through CCD. More and
more loses are occurring this year and millions of beehives have been lost since 2006.

An example of this is foulbrood, a bacteria that kills the brood and produces spores
that must be burned to improve chances of colony survival. Another example of
this is Nosema, a illness that infects the intestinal tracts when waste cannot be
removed during winter. There are some measures a beekeeper can take to prevent
this calamity. However, some are debatable, such as providing nutrient lacking
sugar water and burning hives, causing issues either way. Climate change is
another factor that is affecting bees. Due to how temperatures are rising, the cycle
of bees collecting pollen and flowers blooming are not synchronized, leading to
both organisms not receiving what they need. Both the plants and the insects have
relied on each other for millions of years and to have it suddenly change might
endanger all life on earth. Speaking of sudden change, it is important to remember
that bees are also under stress, which is caused by these changes. Between all of
these factors combined, bees can t sustain themselves, leading to beekeepers to order
more bees. This causes even more stress due to moving, which in turn increases the
risk of death and disease. Thus, the endless cycle continues until there are no bees

ABSTRACT
This paper proposes and tests a model to explain three critical outcomes of
Performance Management Systems: information quality, effectiveness, and
usefulness of the PMS to managerial decision making. Drawing from Organizational
Information Processing Theory (OIPT), we examined how those three outcomes may
be influenced by factors that affect OIP requirements (industry, size, and geographic

RESEARCH QUESTION, MODEL AND HYPOTHESES
Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) enable organizations to plan, measure
and control their performance, so that decisions, resources and activities can be better
aligned with business strategies to achieve desired results and create shareholder
value. This study addresses the following research question: What factors, internal or
external to the organization, explain the outcomes of Performance Management
Systems? In order to answer this question, we used the model shown in Figure 1 to
examine the factors contributing to three types of PMS outcomes: usefulness,
effectiveness and quality of information.
Figure 1. Factors contributing to PMS outcomes
Usefulness is defined in the literature as the degree to which a person believes that
using a particular system would enhance performance [11]. Usefulness is related to
the concept of voluntary IS use [2,3]. The actual usage of information systems is
widely considered an important measure of IT success in organizations, and has been
found to have a strong correlation with the perceived usefulness of a system by the
user [8].
Effectiveness of a PMS is the degree to which the system delivers its intended results
[9], i.e, helping organizations to plan, measure and control their performance, as
described above. Information Quality
40. The Vapors And E Cigs
The Vapors and E Cigs are an electronic cigarette, meant to be a substitute for
cigarette smokers. E cigs maybe the best alternative to cigarettes, although vaping
presents just as many health issues as smoking.
In general the side effects for vaping are as fallow: Dry skin, dry mouth, Rash
/burning sensation on face, itchiness, puffy/dry eyes, caffeine sensitivity and minor
bloody nose issues. The E cigs produce vapor, not smoke, to allow smokers to
consume their nicotine without affecting the people around them. Some consumers
believe that the vapor they exhale is water vapor. E Juice is the liquid used to
produce the vapor, but E Juice is an oil based product. Even a fourth grader would
question how the vapor contains water if it was an oil used to produce the vapor.
The chemicals found inside the oils are not addictive but are still harmful to the
human body. The main ingredients in E juice are propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine,
and artificial flavorings. Nicotine free E juice, somewhat of a good thing, contains
95% propylene glycol and glycerin.
For those who don t know what propylene glycol is, propylene glycol is the chemical
used for anti freeze ice pack. It is labeled as a safe toxin, but none the less still a
toxin. Propylene glycol when ejected can affects the skin, kidneys and respiratory
system (breathing). Propylene Glycol is also referred to as PG and one of PG s
attributes is that it is a hygroscopic liquid, in other words, it attracts and holds water
41. Compare And Contrast Conservatism And Socialism
During the nineteenth century, many political viewpoints were practiced. Liberalism
and socialism challenged conservative political thinking of this era, criticizing
different aspects of conservatism and bringing in new ideas of political and economic
lifestyles in the communities. Liberalism sought improvements over specific areas of
conservatismwhere socialism sought improvements over some different areas of
conservatism. The differences between liberalismand socialism lie in economic plans
and strategies, religious toleration, and government setup. First, liberalism differs
from socialism in their respective economic plans. According to liberalism, citizens
have incentives to work and trade goods through a free trade system. Labor was a
service offered by citizens in the liberal mindset, and through population growth and
industry needs, Malthus and Ricardo explain that wages for labor are at a subsistence
level. Socialism, on the other hand, sought community cooperation over competition
in producing goods, where free trade focused on competition for demand and supply

Liberalism embraced legal equality, at least among adult male citizens, concerning
issues such as religious toleration, freedom of speech, and freedom of press.
Citizens were more capable to practice their religion compared to a nationally
established and practiced religion, as well as think and convey their ideas, thoughts,
and religions to fellow citizens. Socialism, on the other hand, was stricter on
religious tolerance, freedom of speech, and freedom of press to better conserve an
ideal community. These restrictions could be seen as ways to protect citizens from
argument and quarrels among fellow citizens. It was also esteemed to live in
environments that were nurturing to improved character, whereas higher levels of
happiness and self discovery and spirituality may be found in a more religious
tolerant liberal
42. Breaking Bad Gender Roles
TOPIC The topic for my final research project is portrayals of gender roles within
relationships in television shows. Specifically, I will be analyzing how women in
romantic relationships interact with their partners in the television series, Breaking
Bad. Female portrayals in various forms of media have been analyzed extensively
due to the genderrole stereotypes that are often maintained. The topic of research that
I am proposing requires further analysis since there has not been sufficient research
conducted in regards to women within romantic relationships. This analysis would
take a closer, more specific, look at gender differences in television.

This article is important because it looks at how gender differences within the
home and the workplace are perpetuated by popular culture in television
commercials. Eight hypotheses were created before conducting the study in
regards to gender inequality in commercials. The data for the study conducted was
obtained by analyzing television commercials from a three year time period
broadcasted on popular programs (Pp. 332 33). The independent variables of the
study were sex, race, family relationship, work status, occupational category, job
authority, and target audience (Pp. 335). The outcome variables were interaction
style and sex objectification (Pp. 334). The results of the study showed that in
television women are usually underrepresented, more likely to be shown in family
roles, less likely to be shown as workers, and more likely to be shown a sex objects
than men in commercials (Pp. 336 38). Overall, this study showed readers that there
has been little movement towards gender equality in television; differences between
the two genders are highlighted and
43. America s World War II
There is no doubt that America s World War II is a rich source of literature and a
theme for many writers. As result, they wrote many works about war literature,
such as novels, poetry, plays, diaries, and personal narrative. The American
Literature was formed by the history of the state that produced it just like in other
nationwide literature. America was just a cluster of colonies scattered alongside
the eastern seaboard of the North American continent for approximately a century
and a half. After they had succeeded in the rebellion against the motherland, it was
named the Unites States (Skipp, pg. 45). The rise of science and industry during
all these struggles of power as well as changes in the ways of thinking and feeling
created many alterations in people s lives. All these factors led to the molding of
the American literature. American literature at first was perceptibly a colonial
writing by authors who were Englishmen. American writing began with the work
of the English adventures and the colonists in the new world principally for the
interest of readers in the mother country. The World War II which involved a vast
majority of the world s nations began in 1939 and lasted in 1949 (Meredith, pg. 67).
This conflict led to a severe worldwide economic depression also referred to as The
Great Depressionin the decade preceding World War II. This condition caused many
people to search for jobs in America. These concepts had a compelling force
44. Causes Of Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin was a Marxian idealist who devoted the majority of his adult life to
bringing about a Socialist state in Russia. His years committed to the cause would
culminate in the October Revolution of 1917, during which the Lenin led
Bolshevik party would seize upon a weakened political regime and institute
themselves as the ruling authority of Russia. With Lenin leading the Bolshevik
party, eager to usher in the doctrine he had faithfully subscribed to and expounded
upon for decades, his dream of a Russian Socialist state was now a humbling yet
exciting reality. How, then, did such a Marxian purist fall well short of the utopian
vision promised by his political ideology? Lenin s inability to successfully
implement the policies which would bring about the ever elusive socialist utopia
can be directly attributed to a variety of factors stemming from three root causes.
The first, and most damning, predictor of imminent failure was that, though Russia
was ripe for revolution at the time of the Bolshevik takeover, the economy of Russia
was not yet ripe for the implementation of Socialist ideals and practices. The second
and third root causes of Lenin s ultimate failure are byproducts of the issues that
arose from the initial root cause just stated. Due to the impracticality of full scale
implementation of Socialist policies in Russia at the time, Lenin made the
reprehensible, though practical, choice to utilize dictatorial tactics of repression and
force, often by way of
45. All Members of the Family Matters
Family, a close weaved group of people inseparable because of links of shared
history, love, caring, and understanding which links them to one another and ignites
a since of belonging and togetherness. Members of a family are like the patches of a
patchwork quilt. Like the patches of the quilt, family members are of different sizes,
shapes, and colors but although different they all play a part in creating a
masterpiece which bond is only as strong as the weakest link. It s these differences in
sizes, shapes, and colors which makes patchwork quiltso unique and amazing to the
public today. Family works the same way you have different types of people with
completely different mindsets, hobbies, and careers but family is special. Family
has a linkage between them, a certain bond that may not be visible by eye but the
bond is so strong that no matter what happens or how far apart they are, they will
always be linked back to the other members of the family. But what happens when
you put another angle to the common institution of family? What happens when that
person in your family who shares this linkage is a pet? Does this change the definition
of family just because the subject at hand is something other than human?
My substantive definition of family helps me too be able to accept pets as members
of the family. Under the definition of law, family is the formal social recognition and
affirmation of a bond as family, particularly in the form of marriage and adoption.

46. True Teleportation During An Experiment At Work
My story starts mid January 1837. It was a Friday, and I had just gotten home from
a long day of work. Eager, though, because I had only installed the final parts into
a secret project of mine. I had earlier discovered the secrets of true teleportation
during an experiment at work. I heard a subtle thmmp as the moon began to shine
so slightly through the now barren trees outside my windows, brightened for a
short moment by the electricity in the sky. Small droplets of water started
appearing on the windows. Odd for this time of the year, for it had not been too
long since they were frozen. As I made my way with haste to my small lab, the beat
of the rain grew, and more frequent rattles of thunder shook tiny clouds of dust into
the air.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The storm persisted, but not as intense as before. There remained a trickle of water
from the sky.
I brought myself up. From my surroundings, it was apparent that I had not gone out
too far from my laboratory. Despite the blackness of the night, I was too familiar
with the swamp which engulfed my town. I pointed myself in the direction of the
only light I could see, unmistakably the town s lighthouse. However, it was difficult
to be sure given my recent and regrettable actions. My mind seemed to betray me in
a sense which caught me off guard. Nevertheless, the light was my only point to go
on, so I began my short journey back to civilization.
Nearing the edge of what now felt like a forest, I found my way to the lighthouse.
Close by sat the small town, which came to me quickly compared to my trek through
the marsh.
The guard stopped me before I could walk through the gate. Confused, I took a
glance backwards. I was a well distinguished individual in my local community, and
it was quite atypical for the guard to stop almost anyone from our small settlement.
To my surprise, however, there was no one else to be seen except myself.
What are you and what are you doing here! bellowed the chief. I was quite thrown.
It s just me. I muttered, probably not to be heard. It was ill lit and perhaps he could
not see me, but I was surely unmistakable in my laboratory attire. The chief stomped
forward as the rest of the guard drew their weapons,
47. Transposable Elements Carry Out Gene Tagging and...
Transposable elements are useful for carrying out gene tagging and functional
genomics studies. In plants, various transposable element systems like Ac/Ds, En
/Spm, and Mu from maize have been utilised for gene determining tools. Of these,
Ac/Ds transposons system has been efficiently used for such studies in various
heterologous monocot species like rice, barley and dicot species. Wild barley, being a
rich source of novel useful genes, can be exploited as a transpososn based gene
tagging resource. The aim of this study was to develop new molecular breeding
tools for the discovery of novel genes from wild barley. In the first objective, an
endogenous Mu transposable element was found in three PGRC wild barley lines and
nested inverse PCR (iPCR) technique was utilized to generate flanking sequences
from this Mu transposon. Basic bioinformatics analysis of 8 flanking sequences has
identified 6 sequences with important genes responsible for certain domesticated
traits. In the second objective, wild barley lines Damon and Shechem were crossed
with a Ds containing cultivated barley line, TNP11. Four crosses were made with
Shechem line and five crosses were made with Damon line and further, two
backcrosses were also made with Damon line. These newly developed Ds insertion
lines and newly found Mu containing wild barley lines can be utilized for molecular
breeding and to carryout functional genomics studies for understanding of useful
genes.

This paper should not only be of interest to P2P designers, but also to engineers at
upper and lower tier ISPs, who are interested in acquiring a thorough understanding of
P2P overlays and traВ±c. Because P2P ВЇle sharing systems can generate vast
quantities of traВ±c, networking engineers, who dimension the network and
introduce content distribution devices such as caches, need a basic understanding of
how major P2P ВЇle sharing systems operate. Although there has been recent work in
analyzing the ВЇle sharing workload in KaZaA [8] and [18], to our knowledge we are
the ВЇrst to undertake a comprehensive study of a hierarchical unstructured overlay
for a P2P system.
The paper focuses on the KaZaA overlay network and index management. It ad
dresses neither KaZaA s downloading protocol (for example, KaZaA s parallel down
loading and request queuing) nor its incentive scheme for encouraging uploading.
The paper is complementary to [8] and [18], which focus on KaZaA ВЇle sharing
traВ±c. It is also complementary to a recent measurement study on pollution in P2P
ВЇle sharing systems [19].
This paper is organized as follows. Section 2 provides an overview of KaZaA.
Section 3 describes are measurement apparatus. Section 4 presents our measurement
results. Section 5 sets forth basic design principles for unstructured P2P ВЇle sharing
applications. Section 6 surveys related work. Finally, Section 7 summarizes our

How is the character of Mrs Hayward developed throughout the opening 3 chapter
of Frayn s Spies ? Mrs Hayward is a contradictory character who is established
through Stephen s fragmented memory to be both a character of smiling perfection
and a broken woman, sitting in the dust weeping. She is both the embodiment of a
perfect British wartime wife and a character of suspicion; a spy, a traitor, the
epitome of deceit and the focus of two young boys overzealous imagination. When
the reader is first introduced to this character it is through the listing of three
declarative clauses in one of Stephen s long, complex sentences. It is here that his
fragmented memory is emphasised by the fragmented syntax where only glimpses of

The antithesis of weeping and laughing highlight to the reader how Mrs Hayward
is a character who evokes feelings of both happiness and shame in Stephen, due to
her respective actions and emotions. She is a fragmented and incomplete character
who is portrayed to the audience through an anaphoric series of present tense
memories, which make her actions, and consequent responses of the narrator,
seem immediate and continual. She is a character who evokes an emotional
response in our narrator almost sixty years after unknown events have occurred,
suggesting to the reader that she is going to be central to his journey down
memory lane . When Mrs Hayward is next introduced to the reader it is through
elderly Stephen s third person account of what would have happened if young
Stephen had asked Keith to play at his house for the afternoon. This hypothetical
pondering of the narrator occurs after a substantial amount of description has been
dedicated to Keith s home, room and father, suggesting to the reader that these
male characters were the main objects of focus for young Stephen, Keith because
he idolised his friend and his father because Stephen clearly feared him. Mrs
Hayward then appears with her perfectly plucked eyebrow while she is reclining
on a sofa and looking up from her library book . Frayn has positioned Mrs Hayward
in the domestic sphere of the house and then used stative verbs to show her lack of

55. Republic Of Outsiders Analysis
Activism is defined as the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring
about political or social change by the Oxford Dictionary online. Traditionally, this
is the commonly accepted and widespread definition used to label the renegades of
society, the fighters for justice, and the believers in change. This trend of societal
self modification has predicated our prevailing view of activism, because social
change is, and always has been, a part of human evolution. Nowadays we are faced
with a polymorphous concept of activism that baffles everyone from academics to
activists themselves. Over the past decade, new forms of pseudo activism have
appeared, and have proven to be increasingly difficult to classify under the
preexisting categorizations. In Alissa Quart s book Republic of Outsiders we come
across many instances of this quasi activist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Performance art is often seen as social change campaigns but by analyzing on a
case by case basis, we can see how some are indeed activist movements whereas
others are centered more on making a bold, artistic statement by using
controversial contemporary issues as a platform to do so. Emma Sulkowitz, or
mattress girl as she has been dubbed, is primarily a performance artist, dedicating
her life to her artwork. Her ancillary aim is to propagate awareness of sexual
violence and rape on college campuses. Due to her secondary, more public goal, she
s seen as an activist whereas in reality she s purely an icon for genuine activist groups
fighting for this particular cause. I would nevertheless consider art as a novel, and
