- How to break your topic into major concepts/ideas? Ask yourself: Who? What? How? Why? Where? What: Where/Who: Why: “ Corporate Sponsorship” AND school* funding Advertising university donations Promotion college scholarships Marketing high school First Period: Taboo : In rows, you have 2 minutes to come up with as many other words for these three main concepts as possible. Use your brain, use each other, use google/thesaurus.com: Go! [Deal out cards] Second Period: Boolean Cards Red cards Red cards AND face cards (add AND hearts) Face cards OR an ACE (add OR number cards) Activity / Worksheet: Work on Questions 3-5 (5-10 minutes; rove and answer questions).

- [You aren’t focussing on books for this assignment, but it is important for you to know how to find a book in our library! You might even find an excellent book related to your topic that helps you understand the issues. Or you may find a chapter or an essay in a book that you can use…] Please follow along if you’d like. When searching the catalogue, begin with a general search, and start broad – if you begin too narrow, you will limit the results you bring up, or might not come up with anything. Our catalogue isn’t like google, or the article databases – we don’t have millions of books. If you don’t find that perfect book that is exactly on your topic, you may want to look for books that may be about your topic more generally. then you may find information more specific to your topic in these books.
- When you are searching in the databases you are going to use more specific / exacting/ strategic searches than in the catalogue. Why? Millions of articles!!
- There are many places online to get APA help. WL&S are the experts at MacEwan! I would recommend going there first. I also really like the Red Deer College guide, they’ve done a great job breaking out how you cite a book and an ebook and articles and 1 author or 5 authors, as well as some nontraditional sources like youtube. Purdue has a sample paper, so examples of headers and footers which can be useful. You can also ask your instructor or the library or me if you get stuck.
