The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting.
Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to
realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
4. Mood board analysis
For my mood board I got images for my music related fanzine, I used images of fanzines in the first two, to show I will
be using images and writing (from my audience research). I also put an image of somebody drawing online, because I
will be doing drawings on Photoshop to make it more traditional to the original fanzine theme. I then put playlist
images like the Spotify 'hip hop favourites' or 'hip hop and r&b' as these will be some of the genres I am covering.
Then also an image from the BET awards show, as I will be writing about similar topics, and an image of artists
performing on it too. I added an image for the billboard hot 100 because in my audience research they wanted to see
charts and statistics so I will put it in my fanzine as billboard is known for it. I also added some artists from different
genres, rap / hip hop – Travis Scott, hip hop or r&b – Drake and pop – The Weeknd. There was also an image from a
pop music quiz because I could add my own quiz in the magazine to make it more fun and appealing to my target
audience, as it is a fanzine and not an official magazine the audience reading should know some answers. Also, an
image of some vinyl's because I could draw them in the fanzine too. The 2021 songs image shows that it is about music
this year mainly. This mood board has helped me with my planning because it has helped me come up with ideas for
my fanzine which I could do in my next slide to plan.
5. Page Topics
• 1 – Front Cover
• 2 & 3 – Contents Page & Information
• 4 & 5 – Artists in Summer 2021
• 6 & 7 – Albums in Summer 2021
• 8 & 9 - Charts
• 10 & 11 - Interview
• 12 – Back Cover
6. Content: Front Cover Layout
White bars around the top, bottom and
right side might be changed to a different
colour to make it more appealing
More text here explaning what
the fanzine contains, maybe
another drawing too
This phone will be
filled in with a song
playing, with the
scroll bar, fast
forward / rewind
button / play / pause
buttons
This is a similar layout plan to my front cover; this is an
experiment I did for my work to see what my fanzine
cover could look like. The background colour is very good
because it is a shade of red, it is brighter, so it looks more
eye catching to the audience. The title font looks unique
and appealing as it is white on the red background, it
could do with maybe a stroke or emboss and levelling
editing, or even a shadow. The play button instead of the
letter 'A' links perfectly with the title, and makes the title
stand out more on the background. The font is quite
modern which fits with the theme of the fanzine being
music in 2021. The colour scheme for this front cover is
red, white with this experiment but it would be similar
for the final product. The colours red connote love,
health etc which links to the audience who will read this
are fans of music as it is a fanzine, so it makes sense for
them to be appealed towards it. This front cover will be
on Photoshop as A4 horizontal and I will have it on the
same double page spread as my back cover and have my
back cover on the left, this is for when I print it out it will
be folded.
7. Content: Contents Page Layout
This is an experiment I did for my contents page; my final product
layout will be like this how it has the title in a vinyl font, with the
images in the corner, with the page list underneath the title. I will
explain what is on each page with a description underneath. This
colour scheme of blue, black and white on this contents page works
well with the whole fanzine being colourful and visually appealing. I
will set this contents page on the left side of a double page spread,
which will be A4 and horizontal.
8. Content: Inside Page Layout A4 horizontal
This is a page layout experiment for my
double page spread. I used my first example
for doing a double page about the biggest
artists of 2021, and on each page it will have
images of two artists,

Content: Inside Page Layout
Here is another layout for a double page
spread, from my research, the images don't
usually touch the sides of the page, so they're
centred more, there is also a fun fact box to
make the page more interactive and easier to
read than official magazines. There is also a
good amount of space to add text and
information.
10. Content: Back Cover Layout
Title

Text and information in a
list here
This is a layout plan for my back cover of my fanzine, the image will be
appealing and colourful with a background colour that works well with it
too. It will be the same background colour as my front cover (pale red)
because from my research I found out this is common in the same fanzines
for it to have a similar colour scheme on both.
12. Colour Scheme
• My color scheme is a triadic colour scheme, using mainly red, green
and blue on the primary colour scheme wheel. I am using different
shades of these colours, including a lighter red, blue and green. The
text on the paragraphs is either white or black, and the titles are a
stronger colour of the background. E.g., a blue contents page with a
different shade of blue for the title.
13. Interview Questions
• 1. There’s been a lot of music releasing this year especially summer and a lot of
competition, what album do you think is your personal favourite this year?
• 2. Especially in the UK, lots of good music by artists. How do you think this will benefit
the UK scene internationally?
• 3. How did you get into producing music?
• 4. Do you think we will get another summer in the near future with this many releases by
some of the biggest artists?
• 5. Do you think you learn a lot about producing with the more people you work with?
• 6. What is your advice to anybody wanting to get into the industry?
