I look forward to Facebook’s F8 developer conference each year. It’s a great opportunity to see how Facebook is prioritizing and adjusting their 10 year road map based on shifting consumer behavior and new advancements in technology.
What was fascinating about this years conference is the rate they are accelerating the convergence of technologies that connect us, immerse us into new virtual worlds and advancing innovation well beyond what we would expect from a company that identifies itself as social first.
Facebook wants to redefine how we think about reality and the not too distant future when all reality is augmented and virtual. The following provides analysis across the consumer centric filters of connection, cognition and immersion.
Connection – Trends that reimagine how we connect, enable and empower consumers
Cognition – Trends where machine based intelligence will disrupt and redefine data assets and how we work
Immersion – Trends that align technology and presence to evoke emotion, entertain and power commerce
The recap dives into how the camera becomes a new point of connection and distribution along with the potential rise of effect based marketing, the role of cognitive systems to enhance everything from newsfeed, messenger and augmented reality to the launch of social first virtual reality products and the near future of brain controlled interfaces.
I recently attended Facebook’s F8 developer conference in San Francisco and the event did not disappoint. Mark and the Facebook team outlined their approach to a ten year roadmap, launched the highly anticipated Messenger chat bot beta and showcased their first concepts of a social virtual reality experience.
This document covers:
• The 10 year roadmap analysis
• The Rise of Chat bots
• Immersive Experiences & Social VR
Decline Of The Destination Web, The Rise Of The Social WebAdNerds
The number of visitors to destination sites is steadily shrinking. The explanation is simple: people spend more and more time on social platforms. In this session, we take a closer look at the phenomenon, and explain to you which are the possible strategies to ride the trend.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

F8 2017 | Facebook Developer Conference
1.
2. Camera Effects Platform
Facebook has developed a new platform for developing augmented reality applications on its
platform.
This Platform will contain 2 products:
a Frame Studio - for people to design frames for using in profile pictures and Facebook
Camera.
an AR Studio - available in beta and can be used to create masks, scripted effects, animated
frames and other AR technologies that react to movement, the environment or
interactions during Facebook Live videos.
3. Facebook Spaces
Facebook has integrated the virtual reality (VR) into our everyday social media activities.
It is a separate app that will bring together virtual avatars of your friends in a virtual space
and will allow the participants to interact with virtual elements in a virtual space with
real-world backgrounds.
Users can draw imaginary lines in that space, take selfies with their virtually generated friends
and do a direct video call with another friend through Messenger’s video calling facility.
Users need to have the Oculus VR kit to experience Spaces once released.
4. New Messenger
Facebook is giving a major update to the Messenger .
“Discover” tab – it will allow the users to find the bot for Messenger they’re looking for in
an intuitive and thoughtful way, right from the home screen in Messenger.
New parametric Messenger codes- it will help discovery in the physical world, giving users
the option to scan Messenger Codes through the
Messenger camera and link to their favorite brands
and businesses.
AI Assistant M- it will provide assistance to users regarding a specific topic that is being
discussed in the chat window or a group.
5. New Surround 360 Camera
Facebook made a few announcements regarding 360-degree videos.
The second-gen Surround 360 looks more spherical than the spaceship-like previous model.
The new Surround 360 comes in two different sizes. The big one- called x24, features 24
cameras arranged around the sphere, while the smaller model- x6, contains 6 cameras.
Apart from the overall design change, the cameras now support 8K captures with six degrees
of freedom (6DOF)
6. 360 Capture SDK
With 360 Capture SDK, Facebook announced a new developer tool that makes it easier to
record and share experiences in VR.
It uses cube mapping to retain high image quality.
It is way too efficient than the stitching method that requires time to edit and put together.
The best part is that it maintains the same quality as the original 360-degree or VR
experience.
With the new SDK, VR experiences can be instantly captured in the form of 360 photos and
videos and uploaded on News Feed or VR headset.
7. Places Graph
It is all about providing the free access to data on more than 140 million places across the
globe.
The list of places include everything from public spaces and parks to restaurants, stores, and
other local businesses.
This feature would help save money and save the data include place names, addresses,
photos, Facebook consumer ratings and more.
8. Facebook Analytics
'Facebook Analytics‘ is a free product to assess the audience demographics, and measure
the customer behavior across the Facebook.
It will help developers understand and optimize the complete customer journey across the
channel.
With the usage of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence, now Facebook
Analytics would reduce the time spent searching for hints and would bring the valuable
insights directly to you.
9. Giphy For All
Facebook has announced a suite of developer tools for Facebook Camera which will offer
users options like photo frames, interactive effects, and masks using augmented reality
technologies.
Facebook also announced that Giphy will be available widely in Facebook Live, Camera, and
Messenger for iOS and Android.
Giphy support for Facebook Live will let the users access a vast collection of animated
images and add it to a live stream.
Also, Facebook has made it interactive further by allowing the broadcaster to tap on
hashtags in the live comments and have it appear on the video.
10. Type With Your Mind, Hear With Your Skin
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a team called Building 8 which is trying to work
on some pretty radical new ideas.
One of them involves typing with the mind while the other means to hear with the skin.
The social media giant is working at "silent-speech interfaces" based on sensors with the aim
of typing 100 words-per-minute straight from your brain.
Such a technology would allow the users to send messages by thinking instead of typing.
Although this technology is still a few years away to be fully developed.
11. Developer Circles
Facebook is aiming to make its platform attractive for the next generation of app creators
through its new Developer Circles initiative.
The program is free and open to any developer.
It will work as a forum for collaborating and sharing knowledge.
Local developers will lead each circle by organizing offline events and managing a Facebook
Group for that specific region.
Facebook will also partner with Udacity to create custom training programs for Developer
Circles.
12. Identity
Facebook has launched the Identity feature.
It would help to maintain connections, including a secure way to recover customer accounts
by confirming their identity with no requirement of sharing their personal information or
passwords.
13. Tether-tenna
In an effort to further bring support during emergencies, Facebook announced it's developing
small helicopters that can deliver Internet access to areas that don't have a cellular
infrastructure or have been damaged.
The helicopter, that's being called 'Tether-tenna,' will hook up a fibre line and draw electricity,
and will then be able to broadcast a signal hundreds of feet in the air.
It will not only help, but also being tested to stay in the air over a long period of time to
provide perpetual Internet access in areas that have none.
14. Facebook Games
Facebook has provided updates on its progress with its major gaming initiatives: Instant
Games, Gameroom, and Gaming Video.
That’s all part of its vision to become the place where people play, watch, and share games.
15. Apple Music On Facebook Messenger
Apple will be introducing an Apple Music chat extension to Facebook Messenger.
It will help the users to bring the music streaming app into conversations with friends and
family members and share music.
