P5 Learners plan the development of their own new social media website, including:
a) purpose
b) content
c) target user/membership
d) production plan with
launch date
e) possible revenue
streams
2. A - PURPOSE
The main purpose for the app is as follows;
To bring together the nesh community of the equine world and help advice them with their veterinary queries,
with D.V.M standing for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. This social media idea is interactive platform for the
users to sort their quries. The purpose isnt to add other users as friends on the account that they create but this
is an option used to improve the interaction surrounding the idea.
B - CONTENT
The veterinary aspect will come into this idea via accounts made by veterinary groups across the country. They will have a special verification
sign to signify they are an official recognised veterinary association which will be the base for the site. On top of this users will be able to
create their own account, they will be referred to as users. Theses users will stay separate to the veritnary organisations as they will only be
able to interact with the verternay organisations on the app. Each user can post about their story or problem on their area for friends and
vets to see. The application form to sign up will include details of both the human user and the equine friends, as this is vital when
diagnosing a problem. This information about your horse will include age, weight, height, breed and much more. It will appear at the top of
each thing you post as a starting marker for the vet to go off. Quite often the vet will request a call out but the app is geared towards minor
injuries rather then or problems that may not require such proceeds.
3. C - TARGET USER/MEMBERSHIP
• The target audience I aspire to attracted to my social media would be any equestrians who own and or work with
horses. This means there will be a large wide range of ages, races and both Male and Females. This is because the
gender is mixed when it comes to horse riding as it is a sport that stereotypically attracts women and young girls
but it does have many male influences with in which cause a natural rise in male equestrians.
• Animals are a massive part of equestrian’s life’s and they will spend the majority of their spare time with them, this
may include dogs, cats as well as their horses. This makes the target demographic big animal lovers who are
naturally quite loving and caring.
• Naturally equestrians are quite outgoing and enjoy the out-doors both of which are attributes that are required
when working with such animals.
• Ethnicity can vary but for the majority of riders in the UK are white British.
4. D - PRODUCTION PLAN WITH LAUNCH DATE
Number Task
Time Frame in
weeks
Why its included and description of task
1
Planning: collect some social media
ideas.
2
This is the first thing that will be done by all creators,
designers and developers. It will essentially be a table
reading were ideas are blasted round the room and then
developed on using mid maps and jotting notes. This stage
is were the money making idea comes from.
2
Planning: write out the purpose of each
social media idea
2
This helps to decide on the final product as the social
media idea which has the strongest purpose will be the one
worth making. It’s the one that will be easier to target and
market as there is a clear path to follow.
3
Design: create a few designs and mock
ups of a few of the strongest ideas and
see which ones look best on paper
3
This is done to get down the creative element of the app.
Theire has been the initial thinking for ideas and the further
planning development of regarding the purpose of each
idea now the few that appeal the post and most probably
have the strongest purpose will be designed either by hand
or using basic software on a computer. Just so each idea
can slightly be brought to life before any decision on the
final product is made.
5. 4
Design: Choose a further two ideas out of
the mock ups that have already been
created and draw up more detailed mock
up designs and a proposal form.
2
This stage is very similar to the last stage but it is still crucial as it is
part of the narrowing down section which requires a fin eye for
detail. The plans involved during this stage must be much more
complex and be very similar to what the finished product would
look like minus the interactivity part. The proposal should include
the purpose, target audience, content and title of the app and it
should outline the major areas which will make the app, effectively
sell its self like how unique it may be.
5
Development: Choose one strong idea
after an informal internal vote has been
done by all of the creators and designers
1
This is effectively internally testing the design of the app amongst
the people who have thought of and spent time designing and
developing it. this is beneficial as they can get a sense for what
people will think of the app when it is created and running.
6
Development: Create the first digital
interactive mock up of the idea
2
This is the stage were the pieces start being put together. The hand
drawn and computerized still mock ups, all start to be put into one
to interactive visual. It will be a very close depiction of what the
app will look like minus a few post production tweak once it has
been released.
7
Development: Write detail plans on the
content of the social media concept,
expanding on points made in the planning
and design stage.
1
This can include part of the proposal created for number 4 but by
this stage there may be a few changes that need to be ironed out
after the creation of the digital interactive mock up. This is the last
stage before design so theses issues should be changed now.
6. 8 Creation 15
There needs to be a correlation on all pages with colour to show
uniformity and formality.
This is one of the most important pages on the app as it is the
first to load and therefore it needs to give a good impression to
the audience.
A form that will allow someone to sign up to our social media app
needs to be added to the site. It has to be filled in in order for
them to use the application and it will include some personal
detail regarding the user like name, age and D.O.B but also details
regarding the horse which will include age, weight, height, breed
and much more.
Each vets will be contacted and asked if they wish to join our
database and fulfill their work through us and we will simply add
their details to our page and verify their account.
7. 12
Aplh testing: internal
testing
2
During this stage, the first round of testing will take place, the application will primarily be
tested by the creaters and web designers who created the app, and potentially release to a
select number of audience members in order to receive feedback for what they dislike or
how the app could be improved.
This stage will be used in order to ensure that everything within the application functions
properly, such as the search bar presents the user with locations relevant to their search.
13
Beta testing: external
testing
3
The Beta testing stage is a stage which is used to identify any bugs or glitches with the
created social media app. This test will be available for some of the audience who have
expressed interest in the application or people who are just generally part of the equine
world and could possibly benefit form it.
The things that will be tested for include glitches such as the app freezing or crashing
when the users requests it to do something, such as adding a new account or posting on
the platform. This testing will ensure that the app runs smoothly and the audience will be
able to utilize it properly.
14
Marketing and
distribution
10
During this stage posters and digital advertising will be created and distributed across a
number of different platforms.
Some key areas that would be ideal to advertise are Horse and Hound and TrotON as
theses are organization and media outlets that have built their own equine audience
through the media and my app would gain loads of recognition through them.
15 Publishing 3
Once the app has been completed it can be published and distributed to different
companies, such as Google Play, the App Store and Windows Phone Store. There is an
annual fee to do this which is as follows £20 for google play and £90 for apple store.
My app will be published on the Saturday 12th May 2018
8. E - POSSIBLE REVENUE STREAMS
• There are many top brands in the equestrian sport who offer sponsorships were by we endorse their products on
our app and they in return fund us. This is an option in which I could explore to optain revenue to create my social
media app.
• Another way in which the app can obtain funding would be to allow advertisers to place advertisements within my
app. This would mean that when the user opens the app, they could be presented with an advertisement or this
advertisement could be laced throughout different pages on the app. Companies will pay for us to do this and this is
were the money is gained form this form of advertising.
• The opportunities to do any of this advertising will increase the more popular the app becomes, as the brands will
pay more for an advertising slot on my app. This therefore means promoting my application will be very important
in allowing it to later make profit/revenue.
