The Facebook family of platforms and tools continues to be on the cutting edge of AI technology. Find out what the team of AI engineers at Facebook are working on now.
Facebook has been the leading platform for social media marketing for years. However, remaining just a social media platform is not Facebook's only goal. Their future projections include further development in three key technological areas: virtual reality, connectivity, and artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence Virtual Assistants & ChatbotsaNumak & Company
Artificial Intelligence transforms different interfaces into interactive systems that can be interacted with using Natural Language Processing technology. Thus, businesses can offer voice-integrated smart self-service solutions to their customers with Natural Dialogue Solutions, which can be positioned in different areas ranging from IVR systems to virtual assistants, from chatbots to smart systems.
Why Social Media Chat Bots Are the Future of Communication - DeckJan Rezab
Social media chat bots are the future of communication, if its WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Kik, Skype, or Telegram - you can use their bots and bot stores to easily access new services - easier you could ever do it with apps.
Chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate conversation with humans over the Internet. Examples include Cortana, Siri, and Eliza, the first chatbot created by Joseph Weizenbaum. Chatbots provide information quickly and efficiently for productivity or entertainment, fueling conversations to avoid loneliness. They are trained using large datasets of conversation logs to understand language and connect questions to answers. While chatbots reduce costs and can handle many users at once, they have limitations in complex conversations and understanding intent. Future chatbots may become more specialized and useful in applications like e-commerce, travel, and events.

The Future of Humanity
Through our interaction with machines, we develop emotional, human expectations of them. Alexa, for example, comes alive when we speak with it. AI is and will be a representation of its cultural context, the values and ethics we apply to one another as humans.
This machinery is eerily familiar as it mirrors us, and eventually becomes even smarter than us mere mortals. We’re programming its advantages based on how we see ourselves and the world around us, and we’re doing this at an incredible pace. This shift is pervading culture from our perceptions of beauty and aesthetics to how we interact with one another – and our AI.
Infused with technology, we’re asking: what does it means to be human?
Our report examines:
• The evolution of our empathy from humans to animals and robots
• How we treat AI in its infancy like we do a child, allowing it space to grow
• The spectrum of our emotional comfort in a world embracing AI
• The cultural contexts fueling AI biases, such as gender stereotypes, that drive the direction of AI
• How we place an innate trust in machines, more than we do one another
Methodology
For this report, sparks & honey conducted US-focused research on the future of AI. Together with Heartbeat AI Technologies, we examined the emotional sentiment (feeling and emotions) around artificial intelligence in a Heartbeat AI Pulse Survey of 150 people in the US. Tapping into our Influencer Advisory Board and proprietary cultural intelligence system, we combed through thousands of signals to build a vision of the future of AI. We also interviewed leading experts in the field of artificial intelligence.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

Chris Bolin, Senior Intelligent Automation Architect Anika Systems
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMsSease
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.
