Essay about The American Civil War
The American Civil War was from 1861 to 1865 it was a civil war between the United States of
America and the Southern slave states of the newly formed Confederate States of America under
Jefferson Davis. The Union included all of the free states and the five slaveholding border states
and was led by Abraham Lincolnand the Republican Party. Republicans opposed the expansion of
slavery into territories owned by the United States, and their victory in the presidential election of
1860 resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before
Lincoln took office. The Union rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. Hostilities began on
April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military... Show more content on

Confederate resistance collapsed after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House in
April 1865. The war, the deadliest in American history, caused 620,000 soldier deaths and an
undetermined number of civilian casualties, ended slavery in the United States, restored the Union
by settling the issues of nullification and secession and strengthened the role of the Federal
government. However, issues affected by the war s unresolved social, political, economic and
racial tensions continue to shape contemporary American thought. The Civil War Memorial, in
Sycamore, Illinois, it is located in front of the DeKalb County Courthouse on a public square, it
was shown in 1896 and dedicated in 1897. The monument is constructed from a combination of
marble, masonry and the metal used for the sculpted copper and masonry soldiers. The structure
also incorporated wood into its design. The front facade is adorned with a marble plate engraved
with an excerpt from U.S. President Abraham Lincoln s Gettysburg Address, also marble faced, are
emblazoned with the names of major battles and campaigns of the war.
World War II
On June 6, 1944 , the western Allies launched the single largest invasion.
On June 22, 1944, Soviet forces opened a major offensive defending the center of the eastern front
in western Belorussia.
On May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany s unconditional surrender became official, and the world could
celebrate the liberation of Europe from Nazi rule.

The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge
Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present.
Baz Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of
dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in
hand with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may
take on an idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus
this essay will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent
failures of their dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the
films and the numerous filmic techniques used that explore the... Show more content on

It inhabits Gatsby s dream of unbounded wealth and attempts to allure Daisy from across the
river. Image two shows an establishing shot of Gatsby s house that introduces this vibrant, vast
and extravagant lifestyle led by this rich demographic. It shows this kaleidoscopic carnival of
people from every walk of life and every corner of New York City descending upon Gatsby s
house. The house welcomes everyone with all its windows lit up and the flamboyant towering
fountains shooting into the air. In the establishing shot one can see behind Gatsby s house the
dark and neglected Valley of Ashes on the left hand side and on the right hand side the
excessively lit East Egg. This technique is used in order to convey this looming idea that The
American Dream does not benefit everybody and is essentially a failure for the vast majority of
people. The scene experiences a quick transition introducing an eye level long shot of swerving cars
and frenzied party guests. The audience s senses are assaulted by the disorientating sound of
trumpets and car horns, giving momentum and a pulsing beat, which invigorates the audience.
Lurhmann uses numerous zooming techniques as a way to immerse the audience in the raucous
and recklessness of the drunken partygoers. Nick is swept into the entrance hall that is filled with

Wonder Woman
15 October 2014
Wonder Woman Children always looking for a positive role model to have, and many end up
choosing superheroes they see in their favorite comic books or ones they have seen in the media.
Since children are so easily affected by things they see in their childhood, having discriminatory
elements in these influential characters may be problematic. The Wonder Woman Precedent:
Female (Super) Heroism on Trial written by Julie D. O Reilly, was published in the Journal of
American Culture in 2005. O Reilly is a professor of communication and women and gender at
Heidelberg University. In The Wonder Woman Precedent , she writes about the hardships that
female superheroes in the media must face that male superheroes do not go ... Show more content

To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not believe so
because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics.
Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed to be equal to
her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy enough to become a superhero
through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into her title; she had to earn it unlike all the
male superheroes that came before and after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had
to compete in a series of extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a
final life or death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives
multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes have. For
instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark Kent s choice to fight
crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to prove his abilities to a higher
authority in order to become a superhero. He simply chose to wear a cape and enforce justice. O
Reilly explains, ...The resolution of heroic trials, in their various forms, differs significantly

Political Turncoatism
Introduction To be a party to an organization is to be identified to that organization and renunciation
of the other party. However, in the Philippine case politicians freely and gracefully shift from one
party to another, the other changed his mind and do the same. Party switching had been a common
scenario in the Philippine politics. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there
is a need to resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of
revolutions and People Power. True enough the party system of the country seems to resemble
chameleons of politicians going from one party to another.
On several occasions when there is a need of choosing a stand, no contemporary party in the ...

I kept on thinking about something that is obviously a problem but of which its manifestations is
not usually bothered and studied of and for that no actual reforms are passed to alter the problem.
I decided to think of the wrongs and liabilities of the political dynamics in the Philippines. I just
can t get over the rampant party switching of different politicians for their own convenience and in
my perspective, how the people just take that for granted and has it considered as a common
Filipino political culture. And then, I get to ask what kind of PARTY system do we have?
So that was it, I m going to study the root of POLITICAL TURNCOATISM, all about these
political butterflies and the Party System of the country that seems to be arbitrariness of its
existence.
At first, since I wasn t able to appreciate public administration and that I wasn t able to take
legislative course, it was hard for me to actually articulate from that point on and start doing things.
But after reading piles of documents, books, articles and etc, watching and reading news,
continuous researching and several informal discussions with classmates, elderly and some people
with authority to the subject matter, what I have to do with my research becomes clearer and more
interesting.
I can actually say mine s a good topic. It is very much political and indeed has social relevance. It
concerns the society as a whole and

What Does Unit 731 Mean
731: Two Versions of Hell was a documentary directed and written by James T. Hong in 2007.
The setting/subject for this documentary was a facility known as the Epidemic Prevention and
Water purification Department of the Kwantung Army, or alternatively Unit 731, a biological and
chemical warfare research center that was used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War
II. It was located a Japanese controlled city called Harbin, the largest city of Manchukuo in
Northeast China. The unit was used to develop a variety of weapons ranging from Biological to
Chemical to psychological. It is a site that is most notably known for the use of lethal human
experimentation and some of the most serious war crimes committed by Japan. The thousands of
victims were comprised of men, women,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overlaying commentary are what differentiates the different countries thoughts behind the
images. The images are just images without any particular tilt until the political ideas are added. In
this case the Chinese spin on the events happening at Unit 731 are a bit more believable to the
viewer as the evidence and explanations for the violence make sense for the time period and other
historical events that are similar are known. Similarities in the actual atrocities and the reaction the
United State took to acquire the data discovered at Unit 731 is similar to how the Nazis scientist
were handled at the end of World War II. The Japanese account on the other hand definitely
showcase the control the government wanted over the issue. They claim that the communist
Chinese and the United States were spreading lies about the events and could not be trusted. They
advertised the industrial marvels and advancements of the time to distract from the methods in
which the information was acquired. Everything is covered in a smoke screen that deflected blame

Domino Effects Of The Crucible
The Crucible was a visual presentation for us to understand how a type of government can
paranoid someone and encourage other people who cause the tension. The Crucible helped us
understand that life is like a domino, if one person is infected by a problem, the rest will have to
deal with that problem, and as this domino effect goes on, the future follows it as well. History
goes back a long way. When we look back at history, we should learn from those mistakes. When

Annotated Bibliography On The Library
Introduction:
Library users today are able to meet most their information needs through the sources outside the
library. The ubiquitous access to internet today and the rise of the companies like Google,
Amazon and Wikipedia have provided viable alternatives to users for their information needs. So
libraries are experiencing an evolutionary change in their traditional services. And the rapid
evolving digital technologies can be seen as an opportunity for libraries as their need to evolve in
the face of these new challenges.
Linked Data which works as the framework behind the Semantic Web, an idea developed by Tim
Berners Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web
, aims at revolving the Internet into one large
database instead of simply distinct collection of data. Today, where internet has been the first
choice for the users to look for information, libraries should seize the advantage of the concept
behind Linked Data. By attempting to make their resources available on the web, libraries can
bring back their users because of the allure of the high quality and authoritative resources owned by
the libraries.
Such technological development can definitely bring a number of benefits to libraries by allowing
the libraries and their resources to connect with their users on the web. Professionals in the field
have considered the use of Linked data technologies for the benefit of Libraries. Many papers have
been written by experts underlying the benefits in the past decade. And

The City Is The Nuclear Power Plant
The day began like any other. A city full of life woke up to continue its normal routine. Early
morning sunlight glinted off of surroundings along the horizon. Shiny cars crawled through the
streets. Pedestrians exited their homes and walked along the sidewalks. Bright, luscious green trees
and colorful gardens lined the streets. Children crossed the roads to get to their favorite
playgrounds. Teenagers headed to the beaches that bordered a lake in the center of town. Massive
concrete flats, serving as apartment buildings, created grids throughout the city. As usual, workers
constructed new buildings for an ever growing community. A giant Ferris wheel, one of the city s
most iconic landmarks, towered over the fairgrounds in the distance. Statues stood in the many
public squares that occupied space between buildings. One of the most noticeable features of the
city is the nuclear powerplant, centrally located near the middle of the metropolis. The town of
Pripyat, Ukraine, home to almost fifty thousand people, was developing into a model city. Little
did the citizens know that their lives were about to change. In the case of the Chernobyl nuclear
reactor accident in 1986, the calamity came as a complete and utter shock to the people involved.
Far too often, this is also the case for individuals involved in other disasters. Lives are built for the
purpose of moving forward, and one unfortunate mishap can send them spiraling in the opposite
direction. Problematic factors that

Chronicles Of Narnia Power Corruption Essay
When does power get to be to much, is it when we feel it surging through our veins or is it when
we are given a chance to be the boss of others? It could be either but power can ruin great people.
Does power corrupt? Yes it does, power is something that can take down a person within seconds.
Power is sneaky, tricky, and imperfect. Not all are corrupted by powerbut most are. Two people
who unquestionably let power take them over are Hitler and Jadis also know as the White Witch
in C.S. Lewis classics The Chronicles of Narnia. A person who did not let power overtake them is
Lucy Pevensie daughter of Eve Queen of Narnia also from C.S. Lewis classics The Chronicles of
Narnia.
Aldof Hilter was a person who went insane from the power he held. (2) On a brisk springs day on
the 20th of April in 1889 Adolf Hitler was born, he was a Austrian born German. Adolf grew like a
weed in a well cared for garden, he was a pleasent boy growing up but as he grew Adolf became a

face. The Nazi s shook in their boots as they watched their inexorable leader pace back and forth

be defeated with the help of the army that Aslan was gathering for the day her and her siblings
would show. Brave, fervent, altruistic Lucy dashes about soldier to soldier with her healing
cordial like a lizard running from the hand of a human. (1) Lucy never gave up, never gave in,
and never thought about walking away from the one person who would help them take down the
Witch. (4) Keeping her head above water Lucy stayed steadfast in her beliefs relying on her faith
to keep her from falling in the power

How Did The Operation Mincemeat s Defeat
The Invasion of Sicily started on July 10, 1943, was a grand full scale Allied invasion involving
about 160 000 men, and ten thousand vehicles completely dominating the Italian island entirely,
liberating the Sicilians. The major event leading up to this victory was Operation Mincemeat,
considered by some to be the most successful single deception of the entire war. It was an absurd
plan intended to seize Sicily under Allied control, through forging an identity of a dead man who
never lived to feed false information to the Axis. It involved a ludicrous amount of planning,
judgement, and consideration, but most importantly: good fortune. Despite the need for a carefully
assembled deception that would relocate the German arms, luck contributed... Show more content

Despite Mussolini s protests and conviction that Sicily was going to be attacked, Hitler fully
believed that Italy was no longer in danger, locating his troops elsewhere along the coast. The
dispersion of Hitler s forces tried to cover too much area, being less concentrated in power which
ultimately leads to his defeat. Operation Mincemeat had not only worked but had succeeded as a
deception that changed the path of World War II for the Allies. The intricate planning in Operation
Mincemeat played an important role in its success; however, luck, timing, and situational factors
that were uncontrollable by the Allies contributed to the success to a great extent. Without these
unpredictable factors, Operation Mincemeat could have potentially failed as a whole; however,
the fortune that the Allies had allowed Operation Mincemeat to become even more effective than
predicted. As Ben Macintyre had said, deception is a sort of seduction. In love and war, adultery
and espionage, deceit can only succeed if the deceived party is willing, in some way, to be
deceived, and Germany was fully willing to play the role of the deceived

Physical Experience In High School
Walking down the cold, smelly hallways of Dutchtown high School with my freshly ironed khaki
pants, purple polo style button up, and new burnt orange and white saucony shoes, I was ready for
school. This was a very unusually hot august day with a high of 98 degrees. As I got off the bus, I
felt the sunrays beaming down on my head. I couldn t get to the cafeteria door before I started to
sweat profusely. The 7:25 bell rung to go to class. I walked to my 1st hour class and saw a short,
baldheaded, dark skinned man with a whistle around his neck. Before anyone could even come
into the classroom, the teacher told everyone make sure their IDs are on.I sat in my desk and
didn t pay any attention to what the man had just said. He began to talk about the importance of
physical activity and the effect that it has later in life. Ten minutes into the class, the short man
yells get out of your desks and let sgo outside! Fairly confused we all got up out of our desks and
slowly headed out the door. The whole class met behind the bleachers of the football stadium. We
will run a total of 4 miles today, the man yelled. The entire class sent a wave of disgust and
disappointment throughout the whole school. Looking like a group of zombies we walked slowly
and unenthusiastically towards the high schools field. The runningtrack seemed as though it was

Relation Regress Argument Analysis
In this essay, I will explain and evaluate the relation regress argument against resemblance
nominalism, by arguing in favour of the relation regress argument. Firstly, I will define what
resemblance nominalism and the relation regress argument is. Then, I will look at the plausibility
of and concerns about Russell s relation regress argument, by comparing it to various
counterexamples which argue in favour of resemblance nominalismand are against the relation
regress argument. Finally, I will demonstrate why the relation regress argument seems more
plausible than arguments in favour of resemblance nominalism.
Resemblance nominalism is a type of nominalism which describes that some objects resemble each
other and others do not. The resemblance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Qualitative economy would be to restrict the kinds of objects to the least, while quantitative
economy is to restrict the number of objects in each kind to the least. It is quantitatively more
economical to admit to resemblance universals than to hypothesise a universal for each
resemblance, according to D. Nolan. So, only the relation of resemblance is accepted as a universal.
This seems counter intuitive, to accept the existence of universals only when it suits an argument
and to decry its existence outside of that. Therefore, it seems more plausible to admit to the
existence of universals in general, not just as resemblance

How Did Henry Vii Affect The Future
The events had a great effect on the future. When the Yorkists were defeated at the battle of
Bosworth Field, Henry VII became king. It had been hard for Henry to win the throne. He had
been in exile, and had had to do constant campaigning to get as far as he did. However, there were
still threats to his title. There were various pretenders, as well as Perkin Warbeck, who claimed
to be Edward V s younger brother, Richard Duke of York. After several attacks, to try win back
the throne, Henry VII finally had him imprisoned and executed. Though problems left over from
the Wars of the Roses were not over yet. Henry VII married Elizabeth of York, the oldest daughter
of the Yorkist King Edward IV, in 1486 ( Six Wives). This was convenient, since,

Vincent Willem van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30th 1853, in Zundert,
The Netherlands. Van Gogh spent his teenage year s working for a firm of art dealers; however,
he did not embark upon his art career until 1880. Originally, he worked only with dark and
gloomy colors, until he came across the art movements developed in Paris known as,
Impressionism and Neo Impressionism (Meier Graefe 4). Van Gogh than included their brighter
colors and unique style of painting into his very own creations. He produced more than 2,000

High doses of thujone will also cause a person to see objects in yellow, which may also be the
reason why he loved the color yellow. Yet, due to Van Gogh s extreme commitment to religion,
and enthusiastic speed in this art pieces, many doctors also assumed Van Gogh could have been
bipolar. Van Gogh s episodes were always followed by exhaustion, and depression, and
eventually suicide (Meier Graefe 46). Therefore, bipolar may be a logical reason of Van Gogh s
mental condition. Though, there may have been many arguments of Gogh s mental condition,
there is still a final agreement that throughout his Van Gogh still created intriguing art for the
world to see. One of Van Gogh s most famous paintings is The Starry Night. Although, Van Gogh
sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous (Schapiro 31). Widely
known as his greatest piece of work, the painting has been reproduced several times and is one of
his most famous paintings. Van Gogh however, was not satisfied with this painting, in a letter to
his brother Theo from Saint Remy he states, In all this batch I think nothing at all good save the

Summary Of Friday With Morrie
Tuesday with Morrie is a book about the life lessons Morrie taught his favorite student, Mitch.
Morrie was a teacher most of his life but he didn t teach his most important lesson until his last
six months on earth while battling ALS and losing to the terminal illness. Mitch is a young man
that does not expect his life to change so drastically has he spends each Tuesday with Morrie in
his study. Each Tuesday Morrie and Mitch share stories, laughs, and tears as Mitch documents
every moment with him. Mitch finds himself learning more from Morrie than he ever has being
a student in his classroom. The subject Mitch was being taught by Morrie was The Meaning of
Life and Mitch was luckily documenting it all and sharing it with the world, teaching readers
the lessons of life Morrie has to teach. Morrie turns the dying experience into a learning
experience for himself and the loved ones around him. 1.In the beginning of the chapter The
Professor Morrie is explaining the day he found out his mother died, he was eight years old and
a telegram came from the hospital, Morrie had to break the news to his family because he was
the only one who could read English. His Russian father tells him to not speak of her and to keep
the memory of him inside his head and heart. When his mother was sick he ignored her when she
would call Morrie for help, Morrie thought that if he could pretend that he did not hear her, in his
mind he believe this could make the illness go away by ignoring it.

Police Discrimination And Discrimination
Most middle class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are
routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal (Benjamin Spock) . In the United States and
around the world different people face discrimination, inequality, and racism because of the color
of their skin instead of content of their character. However, the shocking thing is that the violence
can be seen in the protectors of Peace and Liberty, the Police. They as humans also hold a sense of
bias and racismand act accordingly to their own personal desire instead of by the law. African
Americans have cower and be weary around the police because the police are rude and belligerent.
When someone of a certain raceare faced with inequality and discrimination there will be protest
and when protest do not work it becomes riots. The thing that sparked the Watts Riots was when
a police officer attacks a black male and his mother for drinking and driving. In a New York
Times article it states, When another officer began hitting Mr. Frye and his mother, who had
rushed to the scene, onlookers started throwing stones and bottles . This shows that there was fault
in Mr. Frye for drinking and drinking but he should have been fine or arrested instead of being
abused and assaulted. The conflicts with the police has been going on for many years and this event
sparked the protests into a full out riot. The U.S History in Context states that,

Schedule Of A Class Schedule For Homework In School
Class Schedule:
Turn in homework
The children took this time of the day to use the bathroom and turn in their homework for the week.
Pledge
The pledge was said over the intercom and the whole class participated.
ST math
Math games on the computer
I walked around to help anyone who needed help
PE/music
The children go to PE or music
Teacher planning
I got to help the teacher decorate for Halloween in the hallway
I helped the teacher check homework and see who tuned it all in or not
Math skills
The children worried on a path packet and a skills paper
We then tought them a new math skill o I got to help the read the word problem and then explain
how they get the answer.
Two events:
Today we went to ST math before PE and I noticed something interesting. Most of the children
were on the same lesson and had the same trouble. They all were having trouble with less than,
equal to and more then. In the program there were blocks on each side and the child had to either
take some away or add some to make them equal. I helped mean children with this lesson and each
time I found new ways to help them. I showered a few ways with counting on my fingers and
others by connecting it to a math problem. They mostly all understood it better with the visual. This
was a good learning experience for me and showed me how differently the kids learn. Next time I
want to find different ways to explain how to do the lesson. I could maybe relate it to something
they know or draw some pictures.
I was also given the choice to lead the lesson on math skills. I chose to do it thinking it would be
good experience and help with my confidence. The lesson was on word problems and how to make
them into a math problem. I thought it was going to be easer then what it was. Teachinga child is
very different individually then when teaching a whole class. I learned a lot doing this and got a
lot of help from the teacher. One thing she told me was that the kids in the class had different
reading levels in it, so when reading the word problem with them so they know what the word are.
I was also having trouble explaining it and how to go about it all. The teacher helped me out a lot

International Trade Policy Of Russia
Abstract In this paper, the author attempt to shed light on the introduction the international trade
policy of Russia. For this purpose, the author studied the international trade pattern of Russia
through the analysis of geography, historical and economical factors. The previous studies analyzed
the international tradepolicies of Russia on the basis of their domestic factors. But, the significance
of this study rests upon the fact that it endeavors to explore the international relationship with other
countries from the economical and political angles. For this analysis, the basic structures of this
paper are as follows. First, we stated flatly the overall trade pattern and trade structure of Russia

Arc Welder Essay
Top 10 Best Arc Welders 2016 Review
Are you working on an extension to your home, building something in your garage or do you
need to carry out routine maintenance and some minor repairs on parts and appliances at home?
Do you have the right tools for the job? A reliable arc welder is one of the important tools you
need. This is a machine which converts 110 to 240 volts AC electricity to weldingvoltage, which
normally ranges between 40 and 79 volts AC, and sometimes into an array of DC voltages. A
welder consists of a transformer, an internal cooling fan, a voltage regulator and an amperage
range selector. The type of machine you need depends on your welding skills and it s intended to
use.
Arc welding utilizes an electric current which flows between a welding rod and the welding
material to melt the metal and make the weld. The location being welded is at times protected
by filler material or a semi inert gas. Arc welding is commonly used because it is cheap. It also
the first type of welding apprentices learns. Arc welders are extensively used in a wide range of
application ranging from industrial processes to home use.

homeowner. Remember that you need to wear protective gear when using this machine. Looking
at the blue arc of the welder with a naked eye can result in serious eye damage. It is also important
to wear protective clothing when working with the machine because the intensity of the light and
high temperatures created by the arc can lead to severe skin damage on any exposed body

Dollree Mapp s Execlusionary Rule
On May 23, 1957, Cleveland police officers attempted to search Dollree Mapp s house under the
assumption that she had in her custody a suspected bomber and illegal gambling items. The
police were turned away after Mapp requested that they first acquire a search warrant. Three
hours later, the police returned to her home and forcibly raided Mapp s house without a warrant,
and found their search to be futile. Instead of the evidence they expected to find, the officers
discovered pornographic materials in Mapp s possession. To own such salacious pictures and
books is an encroachment of Ohio s state code, so Mapp was arrested and convicted for this
violation. Dollree Mapp appealed her case to the Ohio Supreme Court on the basis that it was an

Mapp complained that her Fourth Amendment rights were being violated because she was
convicted based on evidence procured from an illegal warrantless search of her home. When the

1961, the U.S. Supreme Court rescinded Dollree Mapp s conviction and extended the exclusionary
rule to all state criminal prosecutions. The exclusionary rule dictates that any evidence obtained by
police or other government agents through an illegal search in violation of the Fourth Amendment
to the Constitution is inadmissible in court during a criminal trial (5). Before Mapp v. Ohio, the
exclusionary rule was created due to Weeks v. United States, another Supreme Court case in 1914,

Synthesis Essay On Fast Food
Over the past few decades obesity levels in the world have risen. This is largely due to the lack
of exercise as technology has become more prevalent and increasingly poor diets because
unhealthy food is cheaper and more convenient. One way to help solve the obesity crisis would
be to implement a fat tax in the United States like other countries have so that fatty foods would
no longer be a cheaper option and families would be encouraged to eat healthier. Although food is
not the only cause of obesity and fat taxes would cost companies and consumers more money
(OPP), taxing soda alone can help take enough sugar out of children s diets to set them on a healthy
path for life and when combined with overall better diets can transform American... Show more

Adults on average need to consume about 2000 calories a day to maintain good health; however,
many people of all ages are ingesting far more calories than they need. The most threatening
aspect of America s excessive calorie intake is the effect it is having on children. According to
source B a third of children aged two to fifteen are already overweight. This is dangerous because
obesity leads to more health conditions and all this sugary intake is quickly weakening America.
One can of soda has between thirty three and thirty five grams of sugar per serving which is
more than a child s recommended total daily intake (Source A). Taking soda out of American s
diets or at least dramatically reducing it can help begin to reduce the obesity problem in America.
In source C, Thomas Isaac says, the fight against fat has just begun which applies to this proposed
tax on soda. Soda contributes large amounts to unhealthy habits and now is the time to act.
Instituting a fat tax in the United States is important because worldwide obesity levels are rising. If
obesity levels continue to rise as they are predicted to the future of humanity is at risk. The damage
being overweight does to the human body is reason enough want to reverse the trends. There are so
many opportunities in the world and everyone should have the opportunity to live up to their
potential but by continuing these bad habits

Loneliness And Obsession In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein The choices we make set our path to our destination in life. Victor
Frankenstein created a monster to heal his own disease of loneliness, obsession, and suffering. By
doing so, he designed a monstrosity that spiraled out of control. He was on a journey of self
fulfillment to finding access to the key of life. Humans are not meant to live in isolation. It has been
known that humanbeings thrive and flourish in groups; we feed off of each other. Victor
Frankensteins story began with subtle details of his education and childhood throughout the
years; he progressively isolated himself from his loved ones. I threw myself into the chaise that
was to convey me away and indulged in the most melancholy reflections. I, who had ever been
surrounded by amiable companions, continually engaged in endeavoring to bestow mutual
pleasure I was now alone. In the university whither I was going I must form my own friends and
be my own protector. (Shelley 1818: pg44) The segregated Victor is void of multiple points of

enjoyed most excellent health, and had boasted of the firmness of my nerves. (Shelley 1818:

Comparison Of Monster In Frankenstein
In the Novel Frankenstein by Mary shelly, the novel jumps between the two narrative
perspectives of monster and creator. By jumping from two different perspectives throughout the
novel we are able to understand the thoughts and feelings of each character in a new way.
Reading through different perspectives, allows the story to have greater depth and meaning.
Each perspective brings a new dimension to the novel that makes for a more complex story.
Furthermore, the perspectives allow for the two characters to be compared and contrasted
throughout the entirety of the novel. When reading from Victor s point of view, we can see how
he feels about the monster. How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate
the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were
in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin
scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and
flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast
with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they
were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. (Chapter 5) Being that he created
something hideous and evil, when in reality he was only trying to invent something great for
mankind. While reading through the monster s point of view we can understand a deep

Technological developments have to such an outbreak in Wireless SensorNetworks (WSNs), they

1. Introduction The sensor nodes in a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) are used for surveillance of
ambient environment, which can be unpredictable. The sensor nodes are often exposed to harsh
surroundings, which could lead to many problems like failure of the sensing unit, radio transceiver,
and processors; not just that, also sensor node death occurs due to energy crunch eventually. So it
s understood that faults directly affect the network lifetime of a Wireless Sensor Network.
Wireless Sensor Network Lifetime means the time period required for the network to function
with the collective effort of sensors even if some of the nodes have failed. When this percentage
of failed nodes increases, fault prevention and avoidance strategies are needed to be applied to
improve reliability and performance of the network. A reliable WSN yields accurate results. For
fault tolerance in WSN, maintenance of a consistent quality of service (QoS) is necessary. Also
energy efficiency comes into picture, which is a difficult task to achieve.
There are also some software failures related to the operating system or embedded programs in the
sensor. WSN has a tolerance level that defines the capacity it would have to deal with the various
faults of the sensors. The degree of tolerance depends on the three

Bishops into its gates in the year that the council took place (Mcguckin). At the council, they

A Clean, Well-Lighted Place
In Ernest Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Hemingway introduces a protagonist, the old
man, as a loner who is more distinct due to his deafness. The old man s isolation stems from his
deafness. Hemingway highlights interior contrasts like old and young between the characters.
Hemingway emphasizes exterior contrasts such as light and dark through setting. Both waiters and
the old man s ideals are challenged by the nothingness that society entails. Hemingway illustrates
alienation and existentialismthrough the atmospheric setting and contentious dialogue. Hemingway
emphasizes alienation through the setting of the cafГ©. The old man s separation from society is

The older waiter who believes he lacks everything but work exemplifies the characteristics of
existentialism (Hemingway 107). The old waiter deconstructs the Our Father because he too

the older waiter when the older waiter states, Nor can you stand before a bar with dignity

because it was his own decision, similar to the choice of suicide. In both cases, the old man is
constructing his own version of reality. The older waiter clings to the cafГ© unlike the bar he
notices. The older waiter orders A little cup that is filled with coffee which indicates an even

because his life is consistent. The older waiter desires from his life light and a certain cleanness

Bedrock River
If a river flows over bedrock, the bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility which can distort
the shape of the bends in the river (Hooke and Yorke 2011). Substrate influences channel form at
the reach scale, with bedrock channel found to be narrower and deeper than alluvial channels
(Whitbread et al. 2015). This means that the substrate the riveris flowing over does have an effect
on what the river is doing. The bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility, which limits how
fast the river can meander. If the river is flowing over a substrate that is easily erodible, and then if
it erodes down to bedrock the river will become less sinuous.
Meandering rivers are not common in bedrock channels because bedrock channels are narrower
and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). The alluvial channels allow the river
channel to become wide and therefore the river is able to meander because its channel is so wide.
Changing the type of bedrock can influence the width and depth of the river (Whitbread et al.
2015). The maximum width/depth ratio decreases with increasing fracture spacing (Whitbread et
al. 2015). This is because the fractures create a weak spot in the rock that allows the river to erode
into those fractures. Adding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A. Chekhov
The Cherry Orchard is Russian playwright Anton Chekhov s last play. It premiered at the Moscow
Art Theatre 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Chekhov intended
this play as a comedy and it does contain some elements of farce; however, Stanislavski insisted on
directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the
dual nature of this play.
The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to the family s
estate (which includes a large and well known cherry orchard) just before it is auctioned to pay the
mortgage. While presented with options to save the estate, the family essentially does nothing and
the play ends with the estate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chekhov was apparently delighted with the very sound of the title, and enjoyed the same sense
of triumph months later when he finally revealed it to Stanislavski. By October 1903 the play
was finished and sent to the Moscow Art Theater. Three weeks later Chekhov arrived at rehearsals
in what would be a vain attempt to curb all the weepiness from the play which Stanislavski had
developed. The author apparently also snickered when, during rehearsals, the word orchard was
replaced with the more practical plantation , feeling he had perfectly and symbolically captured the
impracticality of an entire way of life.

Guidelines For Taxonomy And Phylogenetic Terminology
Citation MLA
Zachos, Frank E. Tree Thinking and Species Delimitation: Guidelines for Taxonomy and
Phylogenetic Terminology. Mammalian Biology 81.2 (2015): 185 88. Web.
In your own words, what was the main focus of the article? There are multiple interpretations
concerning how phylogenetic trees are built and the understanding of the phylogenetic species
concept. A common mistake when it comes to interpreting phylogenetic trees, which portray
evolutionary relationships among taxa. Generally it is viewed as a ladder of progress, yet it is
not so simple and is often the most relevant error to occur among reports. Species delimitation
additionally plays a similar role in this article, in that it is misused when providing evidence of
species being divided; however, it is much harder to understand the varying outlooks. Overall, the
article focused on these mistakes un order to provide practical guidelines for phylogenetic and
taxonomic papers.
In your opinion, which was the importance of Figure 1? Explain why. Figure one is a correct
representation of a phylogenetic tree. It is important to the article due to the fact that it is a visual
that can be understood and compared to. The article focuses on the fact that phylogenetic trees
are generally incorrect due to a wrong impression. For example, not at any time will a tree be read
from left to right since there is no difference in whether a taxa is drawn on the left or the right side
of the tree. The only important

The Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology has evolved over the years, improving in fields such as medicine, computer
programming, business, and the list goes on. It has opened up a number of jobs and work
opportunities and helped make society more efficient. The human brain has also benefited a great
deal, due to fast paced research and new ways to improve and present creativity skills, using
different pieces of technologyand search engines. There are some downsides to technology and
the wide growth of it, while some problems are created through the misuse of it and how others
take advantage of it. However, technology really has more of a positive impact than anything,
because it has made society and people work more efficiently, opened up new work opportunities,
helped our brains think more in depth and helped people become more creative, and has really
made an impact in medicine.
People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently.
According to Yuki Noguchi, a journalist for NPR news, reported that The advance of tablets and

Analysis Of Waiting For Superman
I have not paid much attention to the schools that I have attended throughout my life. They only
appeared to be edifices composed of brick and mortar that consumed up to eight hours each
weekday. The schools that I went to from Cunningham in Joliet in my early childhood to MCHS
in Minooka for high school, both schools were made to serve a similar function but statistically,
the demographics that they served were completely different. There was a higher percentage of
children eligible for financial aid services such as discounted or free lunches at Cunningham,
hinting at the different economic status of most of the students in attendance. I also remember that
there was only one set of classes that everyone was set to take: no advanced or honors courses. I
was lucky enough to move out of that district and now go to a schoolthat offers me opportunities
that prepare me for a better career. Davis Guggenheimtakes a stance that criticizes the structure of
the educational system as it gives students with a higher economic background better chances to get

Why Do Dogs Make Outstanding Pets
Approximately thirty seven to forty seven percent of households in America own a dog. With

are beneficial to the owner s health, and second they provide their owners with protection from a
multitude of dangers. Aside from promoting favorable physical health due to exercising a dog, there
are studies that have proven that simply petting a dog can significantly lower a person s blood
pressure. When petting a dog, it has been shown that the body releases chemicals that are

amount of stress creating cortisol being produced. Surprisingly enough, ten to twenty percent of

The World There Are Many Cultures, And Religions
In the world there are many cultures, and religions. One of the oldest cultures, and religion is
that of Jewish people. Not being jewish makes you see Jewish people in a different light.
Sometimes that light is often very different that what reality is. By going through the life of a
typical Jewish person for a week you will be able to see just how they live and what types of
things differ and are similar. And what you will find is that most often times the differences are
fewer than the similarities. Days go by very normally for jewish people most of the time. Most
of time they go about their day very similarly to everyone else. Depending on the type of person
they could go about their day differently. there are only some jewish people that still live very
traditionally like they use to in the old days. If you go through a typical day of a jewish person
this is what you would find out. When they wake up in the morning they say their daily prayer,

These companies have been able to provide services at a price that is reasonable and allows

individuals for this use. On a smaller scale, companies censor access to certain websites to increase
productivity in workers or decrease chances of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Parents may block
certain website on their family computers in an attempt to maintain their child s innocence. On a
much larger scale, entire governments can censor or track the Internetuse of its constituents.

They claim that the government has the right to restrict and regulate the Internet any way they
choose within Chinese borders. In 2010, Chinese officials released the white paper . This document
repeats the sentiment that anyone within Chinese borders must abide by Chinese rules. This
includes foreign individuals visiting China. They have access to Chinese Internet but must follow
all rules that citizens face.
The most common censorship method used by the Chinese government is IP blocking. This
means that when a user requests certain IP addresses, access is immediately denied. A Harvard
study, discovered that more than 18,000 sites are blocked; many of them top websites in the
United States. A government sponsored news organization states that only superstitious,
pornographic, violence related, gambling, and other harmful information are blocked but critics
have been quick to point out that many sites that do not fall into these categories are also
blocked. Another Harvard study found that 13% of social media posts were blocked. These were
posts by political activists that promoted or could conceivably incite collective action (such as riots
or protests). Popular American social media sites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook have been
completely blocked, as have news organizations such as the New York Times. These websites have
been recreated for the Chinese internet with censorship restrictions put into place.

Batman As Superheros
For many, a superhero must have certain qualities. People want a superhero that is loyal, selfless,
smart and strong. These characteristics are what many superheroes in comic books have; and in the
early twentieth century, many teen boys were turning to for guidance. Batman was created for the
kids who did not have it very easy. Batmansaw both of his parents murdered and became a
vigilante to fight off crime. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman for the better and portrays the
better qualities of a hero as opposed to Dr. Jekyll in the book, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll changes himself from a good man to an evil man.
Much like many other superheroes, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Some heroes may
not have an alter ego like mythological heroes. Heroes are able to have all different sorts of
characteristics; it just depends on their story. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, Dorian
Gray has used his portrait to be eternally young and learns to see evil as beautiful (150). Unlike
Dorian, Batman is everything but selfish and risks everything for the better of man kind. Batman
will always be the superherothat kids can look up to and know is going to give everything he has
to better this world. When it comes to super human powers, that is where Batman lacks. He has no
powers to his human self that make him who he is. Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne who is
a very intelligent businessman of Gotham City, this

The story is about a ski instructor named Miranda who is having several issues with her new
boss, Hank because he has done and said many things over the course of the time that he has been
there to show that he may be sexist. This scenario has a lot to do with perception. Perception is
defined as a process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order
to give meaning to their environment (Robbins Judge, 166). This paper will discuss what perception
is and how much of an impact in can have in the work place.
Miranda s perception of her boss Hank is that he is a sexist. The initial problem that is discussed is
the fact that she did not like the fact that as one of the most experienced ski instructors at ... Show

Robbins and Judge claim that consensus happens if everyone who faces a similar situation
responds in the same way. (168). Miranda responds the same way after was told by Nancy s son
that the people at the front desk told him that she was not working that weekend I thought you
weren t here today; that s what the people at the front desk told me. (Cohen, Fink, Gadon, Willits,
Josefowitz, 2013), and another customer was told the same thing by the front desk people when
she asked for Miranda the following weekend, But the following weekend, another customer
approached Miranda expressing surprise that she was on the slope because the front desk has
said that she had not shown up. (Cohen, Fink, Gadon, Willits, Josefowit z, 2013). Miranda
stayed optimistic thinking it was a mistake by her boss. Consistency is when an observer looks
for consistency in a person s actions. Does the person respond the same way overtime? (Robbins
Judge, 168). Hank is looking for consistency in his employees as he wants the female employees
to teach children while the male employees teach adults. Overtime, Miranda asked a client to go to
the front desk and book an appointment for private classes with her saying Sure, why don t you just
check with the front desk and let them know what you want? (Cohen, Fink,Gadon, Willits,

Shakespeare’s Brilliant Use of Symbolism
To be or not to be that is the question (Kittredge, 993). This is one of William Shakespeare s best
known and used quotes. Many who use it do not even know what piece it is taken from, or what
exactly it means. It just sounds like a cool, tragic, Shakespearean quote to use to sound more
intelligent. And that is the sad truth. Shakespeare s works are filled with quotes, soliloquies, and
experts, like this one, that are filled with innuendos, imagery, word choice, etc. One very
important literary technique used by Shakespeare, in all of his works, is his symbolism, which
portrayed Shakespeare s life, time period, and messages he wished to get across to his audience.
He also used his symbolism to satirize whomever he wished. Shakespeare s... Show more content on

(Act III, Scene I, ll 56 69).
Hamlet s uncertainty of death is felt throughout this entire soliloquy. Later in it he says, But that
the dread of something after death, The undiscover d country from whose bourn No traveler
returns, puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we
know not of? (Act II, Scene I, ll 78 82).
In this expert the traveler and the undiscovered country symbolizes someone traveling in death
onto the unknown after life. This entire soliloquy symbolizes Hamlet s uncertainties of death.
One other example of symbolism that is used in Hamlet is a serpent. The serpent, which Hamlet
s father s ghost refers his uncle to, represents the evil and deceit that the uncle used to get the
crown. A serpent, many times in literature, represents something that is secretive, evil, and
tempting, just as Lucifer, in the form of a serpent was in the garden of Eden. Now the serpent
was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made (Genesis 3:1). The ghost of
Hamlet s father says of his uncle, Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me.
So the whole ear of Denmark Is by a forged process of my death Rankly abus d. But know, thou
noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy father s life Now wears his crown. (Act I, Scene V, ll
35 39).

1. Discuss the impact of photography on the nineteenth century landscape. How did it affect
painting? What were the political implications of the medium? Use examples to support your essay.
Landscape painting was a particularly effective vehicle for allegory because it allowed artists to
make fictional subjects appear normal, conditioned, acceptable, or destined. Art was not just about
the landscape, it actually allowed the spirit of the painter to come alive in their work. The allegory
was for moral and spiritual concerns. The introduction to photography therefore impacted 19th
century landscape in a manner that was found to be unacceptable because personal intertwinement
of expression and emotion could not come from photography. ... Show more content on

Constable is representing this environment in his canvas by portraying the oneness that once was
had with nature.
Bierstadt s canvas is the basis of manifest destiny of the United States. Albert Bierstadt furthermore
presented Romantic panoramic landscape views that also participated in the continuous exploration
of the individual s and the country s relationship to the land. He focused on identifying qualities that
rendered America unique, which was part of the manifest destiny. The sunrays attempting to break
through the clouds are further support of the manifest destiny suggesting the heavenly light shining
through on a portion of the land (uncultivated and wild) is awaiting the people. His canvas is
focused on the Western part of the country to create attention of the uniqueness of the regions that

pieces of art respective to their countries and environment is the building and destruction of
lifestyle. Constable s piece is brought upon by the environment lose many farmers faced at the time,
while Bierstadt expresses enthusiasm to build and create farm life in new found lands of the United

The Tragic Women Of Tragedy
The Tragic Women of Tragedy Euripides and Sophocles wrote powerful tragedies that remain
influential to this day. The vast majority of work recovered from this time is by male authorship.
What remains about women of this time is written through the lens of male authors perspective and
beliefs about the role of women in Greek culture. The works of these two playwrights frequently
characterize women as unstable and dangerous. Agave, Antigone, and Medea are all undoubtedly
the driving force behind the tragic action in these plays. It is their choices that lead to the pain and
death of the people around them. Through an examination of the evidence from three separate
works, Antigone, The Bacchae, and The Medea, the role of women in ancient Greek tragedy
becomes clear. The actions of Agave, Antigone, and Medea repeatedly prove their characters
instability and danger. Agave in Euripidestragedy, The Bacchae, is a violent example of how
women were portrayed. Agave, the mother of Pentheus, joins the cult of Dionysus. Pentheus dresses
as a woman to spy on the Maenads because of a burning curiosity as to the possible sexual nature
of their gatherings. His plan is foiled when he is spotted hiding in a tree. The messenger depicts
the demise of Pentheus at the hands of Agave, But she was foaming at the mouth, and her crazy
eyes rolling with frenzy. She was mad, stark mad, possessed by Bacchus. Ignoring his cries pity,
she seized his left arm at the wrist; then, planting her foot upon

Introduction The purpose of this lab was to explore the characteristics of hydrates. Hydrates are
solid ionic compounds that contain water that is chemically bound to the crystal. In doing this lab,
the percentage of water contained in various hydrates, if dehydration is a reversible or irreversible
change, and the mathematical relationship between starting mass and mass lost. As there is no
simple way to predict the amount of water molecules in a hydrated compound, it must be
determined by experimenting. This experiment involves heating said hydrates so the water
molecules evaporated from the solid compound. In the different ... Show more content on

The Importance Of Outside And Non Associating Scientists...
1.The hiring of outside and non associating scientists with recognition in a particular field to
perform the research to assure the safety of a specific product or processes. These services can be
hired to generate controversy about a competing product and debate with scientists and regulatory
bodies on the side effects of dangers of a product. For e.g. pharmaceutical and chemical companies
used this tactic for drugs and household chemicals marketing.
2.The selection and formation of so called front groups of third party scientists/ experts to support
the scientific position of claims made by the scientists of particular companies. The example of
scientific advisory boards or SABs is normally used to defend the companies in court cases and in
general public claims.
3.The creation and utilization of industry groups or associations, including the associations and
organization for an industry, think tanks, and public opinion organizations assist the companies in
proving the claims of companies to be legitimate.
4.The use of media and PR agencies to create and change opinions of general public. For instance,
the development of VNRs or video news releases is relatively a new technique of PR firms used to
relay videos of company claims about products and / or services in easily downloadable formats
like videos shared on YouTube. These videos are available on common media as well in form of
paid segments and public associated the content with the news releases

Analysis of Research on Caffeine s Effects on Mood...
1.A) What general topic is the author addressing? The author is addressing whether caffeine can
have an affect on mood dimensions of arousal versus a subject feeling pleasant. The author also
addresses whether these arousals will influence memory in either of two ways. First, arousal
through learning, and second through altered mood states through learning and recall (Herz,1999).
B) What have other researchers already discovered about this topic? Other researchers have found
that caffeine is one of the most psychoactive substances consumed (Gilbert, 1984). Several studies
have showed significant findings in which caffeine can affect effects in mood including increasing
rates of happiness, well being, calmness, and alertness (Zwyghuizen Doorenbos, Roehrs, Lipschutz,
Timms, Roth, 1990). It has also been shown though research that caffeine can elicit anger, anxiety,
and nervousness depending on the dose given to participants. Low doses are more likely to
increase feelings of happiness, and positive thoughts, while higher doses can elicit anxiety and
nervousness. Alcohol has also been researched with its affect on memory. Participants whom had
consumed alcohol were more likely to recall more words in a memory test rather than when they
were not intoxicated. Through this research it has been argued that drugs achieve their affects on
memory by the effects of a participants mood (Bower, 1981).
C) How does the current study follow from previous research? What is new about

Analysis Of Ralph David Abernathy And The Walls Came...
Ralph David Abernathy, author of And The Walls Came Tumbling Down, writes of his personal
experiences in the South through the 1930 s and 40 s. Abernathy talks of being a part of a great
movement that changed the face of American society and made that old way of life obsolete. Mr.
Abernathy spent his childhood in Marengo County, Alabama. His family was almost completely
self sufficient and lived off of about five hundred acres of land. After serving in the military in
1948 Abernathy became an ordained minister. He completed College at Alabama State College,
where he majored in Mathematics. Abernathy then finished his Masters degree in Sociology at
Alabama State College. He was the Pastor at First Baptist Church, in Montgomery... Show more

This town was the worst in the South for African Americans. One of the most racist individuals
Theophilus Eugene Bull Connor and the Mayor of Birmingham disregarded any of the directives
regarding desegregation given to them. Challenges did not end once these two individuals were
out of office. They still controlled the police of Birmingham and vowed to put all persons in jail
that violated any laws. Abernathy and King knew if they could win Birmingham in their efforts to
segregate then they very well could win the nation. So they set out to do this very thing. Abernathy
spoke at rallies in Birmingham while others organized a march. King and Abernathy received
warnings from ministers, Rabbi s and priest that the proposed march was untimely and unwise .
Once receiving this information Dr. King addressed the committee and declared that they would
march right here and now! He along with Abernathy walked right out the door leaving a room full
stunned and silent individuals. They walked past many of Bull Connor s advanced scouts and
police cars to where they could hear the singing of the sixteenth Baptist Church. Once Dr. King
stepped up to the pulpit he addressed the crowd. Once they stepped out of the church they faced a
number of demonstrators which had grown tremendously, so had the number of others who were
joining in the march. It didn t take long for the police to intervene and Abernathy along with King
were arrested. They

  • 2. Essay about The American Civil War The American Civil War was from 1861 to 1865 it was a civil war between the United States of America and the Southern slave states of the newly formed Confederate States of America under Jefferson Davis. The Union included all of the free states and the five slaveholding border states and was led by Abraham Lincolnand the Republican Party. Republicans opposed the expansion of slavery into territories owned by the United States, and their victory in the presidential election of 1860 resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took office. The Union rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. Hostilities began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confederate resistance collapsed after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House in April 1865. The war, the deadliest in American history, caused 620,000 soldier deaths and an undetermined number of civilian casualties, ended slavery in the United States, restored the Union by settling the issues of nullification and secession and strengthened the role of the Federal government. However, issues affected by the war s unresolved social, political, economic and racial tensions continue to shape contemporary American thought. The Civil War Memorial, in Sycamore, Illinois, it is located in front of the DeKalb County Courthouse on a public square, it was shown in 1896 and dedicated in 1897. The monument is constructed from a combination of marble, masonry and the metal used for the sculpted copper and masonry soldiers. The structure also incorporated wood into its design. The front facade is adorned with a marble plate engraved with an excerpt from U.S. President Abraham Lincoln s Gettysburg Address, also marble faced, are emblazoned with the names of major battles and campaigns of the war. World War II On June 6, 1944 , the western Allies launched the single largest invasion. On June 22, 1944, Soviet forces opened a major offensive defending the center of the eastern front in western Belorussia. On May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany s unconditional surrender became official, and the world could celebrate the liberation of Europe from Nazi rule. In 2004, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present. Baz Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in hand with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may take on an idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus this essay will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent failures of their dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the films and the numerous filmic techniques used that explore the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It inhabits Gatsby s dream of unbounded wealth and attempts to allure Daisy from across the river. Image two shows an establishing shot of Gatsby s house that introduces this vibrant, vast and extravagant lifestyle led by this rich demographic. It shows this kaleidoscopic carnival of people from every walk of life and every corner of New York City descending upon Gatsby s house. The house welcomes everyone with all its windows lit up and the flamboyant towering fountains shooting into the air. In the establishing shot one can see behind Gatsby s house the dark and neglected Valley of Ashes on the left hand side and on the right hand side the excessively lit East Egg. This technique is used in order to convey this looming idea that The American Dream does not benefit everybody and is essentially a failure for the vast majority of people. The scene experiences a quick transition introducing an eye level long shot of swerving cars and frenzied party guests. The audience s senses are assaulted by the disorientating sound of trumpets and car horns, giving momentum and a pulsing beat, which invigorates the audience. Lurhmann uses numerous zooming techniques as a way to immerse the audience in the raucous and recklessness of the drunken partygoers. Nick is swept into the entrance hall that is filled with people and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Wonder Woman 15 October 2014 Wonder Woman Children always looking for a positive role model to have, and many end up choosing superheroes they see in their favorite comic books or ones they have seen in the media. Since children are so easily affected by things they see in their childhood, having discriminatory elements in these influential characters may be problematic. The Wonder Woman Precedent: Female (Super) Heroism on Trial written by Julie D. O Reilly, was published in the Journal of American Culture in 2005. O Reilly is a professor of communication and women and gender at Heidelberg University. In The Wonder Woman Precedent , she writes about the hardships that female superheroes in the media must face that male superheroes do not go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not believe so because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics. Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed to be equal to her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy enough to become a superhero through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into her title; she had to earn it unlike all the male superheroes that came before and after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had to compete in a series of extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a final life or death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes have. For instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark Kent s choice to fight crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to prove his abilities to a higher authority in order to become a superhero. He simply chose to wear a cape and enforce justice. O Reilly explains, ...The resolution of heroic trials, in their various forms, differs significantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Political Turncoatism Introduction To be a party to an organization is to be identified to that organization and renunciation of the other party. However, in the Philippine case politicians freely and gracefully shift from one party to another, the other changed his mind and do the same. Party switching had been a common scenario in the Philippine politics. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there is a need to resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of revolutions and People Power. True enough the party system of the country seems to resemble chameleons of politicians going from one party to another. On several occasions when there is a need of choosing a stand, no contemporary party in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I kept on thinking about something that is obviously a problem but of which its manifestations is not usually bothered and studied of and for that no actual reforms are passed to alter the problem. I decided to think of the wrongs and liabilities of the political dynamics in the Philippines. I just can t get over the rampant party switching of different politicians for their own convenience and in my perspective, how the people just take that for granted and has it considered as a common Filipino political culture. And then, I get to ask what kind of PARTY system do we have? So that was it, I m going to study the root of POLITICAL TURNCOATISM, all about these political butterflies and the Party System of the country that seems to be arbitrariness of its existence. At first, since I wasn t able to appreciate public administration and that I wasn t able to take legislative course, it was hard for me to actually articulate from that point on and start doing things. But after reading piles of documents, books, articles and etc, watching and reading news, continuous researching and several informal discussions with classmates, elderly and some people with authority to the subject matter, what I have to do with my research becomes clearer and more interesting. I can actually say mine s a good topic. It is very much political and indeed has social relevance. It concerns the society as a whole and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities in the actual atrocities and the reaction the United State took to acquire the data discovered at Unit 731 is similar to how the Nazis scientist were handled at the end of World War II. The ubiquitous access to internet today and the rise of the companies like Google, Amazon and Wikipedia have provided viable alternatives to users for their information needs. So libraries are experiencing an evolutionary change in their traditional services. And the rapid evolving digital technologies can be seen as an opportunity for libraries as their need to evolve in the face of these new challenges. Linked Data which works as the framework behind the Semantic Web, an idea developed by Tim Berners Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web , aims at revolving the Internet into one large database instead of simply distinct collection of data. Today, where internet has been the first choice for the users to look for information, libraries should seize the advantage of the concept behind Linked Data. By attempting to make their resources available on the web, libraries can bring back their users because of the allure of the high quality and authoritative resources owned by the libraries. Such technological development can definitely bring a number of benefits to libraries by allowing the libraries and their resources to connect with their users on the web. • 11. The City Is The Nuclear Power Plant The day began like any other. A city full of life woke up to continue its normal routine. Early morning sunlight glinted off of surroundings along the horizon. Shiny cars crawled through the streets. Pedestrians exited their homes and walked along the sidewalks. Bright, luscious green trees and colorful gardens lined the streets. Children crossed the roads to get to their favorite playgrounds. Teenagers headed to the beaches that bordered a lake in the center of town. Massive concrete flats, serving as apartment buildings, created grids throughout the city. As usual, workers constructed new buildings for an ever growing community. A giant Ferris wheel, one of the city s most iconic landmarks, towered over the fairgrounds in the distance. Statues stood in the many public squares that occupied space between buildings. One of the most noticeable features of the city is the nuclear powerplant, centrally located near the middle of the metropolis. The town of Pripyat, Ukraine, home to almost fifty thousand people, was developing into a model city. Little did the citizens know that their lives were about to change. In the case of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident in 1986, the calamity came as a complete and utter shock to the people involved. • 12. Chronicles Of Narnia Power Corruption Essay When does power get to be to much, is it when we feel it surging through our veins or is it when we are given a chance to be the boss of others? It could be either but power can ruin great people. Does power corrupt? Yes it does, power is something that can take down a person within seconds. Power is sneaky, tricky, and imperfect. Not all are corrupted by powerbut most are. Two people who unquestionably let power take them over are Hitler and Jadis also know as the White Witch in C.S. Lewis classics The Chronicles of Narnia. A person who did not let power overtake them is Lucy Pevensie daughter of Eve Queen of Narnia also from C.S. Lewis classics The Chronicles of Narnia. How Did The Operation Mincemeat s Defeat The Invasion of Sicily started on July 10, 1943, was a grand full scale Allied invasion involving about 160 000 men, and ten thousand vehicles completely dominating the Italian island entirely, liberating the Sicilians. The major event leading up to this victory was Operation Mincemeat, considered by some to be the most successful single deception of the entire war. It was an absurd plan intended to seize Sicily under Allied control, through forging an identity of a dead man who never lived to feed false information to the Axis. It involved a ludicrous amount of planning, judgement, and consideration, but most importantly: good fortune. Despite the need for a carefully assembled deception that would relocate the German arms, luck contributed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite Mussolini s protests and conviction that Sicily was going to be attacked, Hitler fully believed that Italy was no longer in danger, locating his troops elsewhere along the coast. The dispersion of Hitler s forces tried to cover too much area, being less concentrated in power which ultimately leads to his defeat. Operation Mincemeat had not only worked but had succeeded as a deception that changed the path of World War II for the Allies. The intricate planning in Operation Mincemeat played an important role in its success; however, luck, timing, and situational factors that were uncontrollable by the Allies contributed to the success to a great extent. Without these unpredictable factors, Operation Mincemeat could have potentially failed as a whole; however, the fortune that the Allies had allowed Operation Mincemeat to become even more effective than predicted. Physical Experience In High School Walking down the cold, smelly hallways of Dutchtown high School with my freshly ironed khaki pants, purple polo style button up, and new burnt orange and white saucony shoes, I was ready for school. This was a very unusually hot august day with a high of 98 degrees. As I got off the bus, I felt the sunrays beaming down on my head. I couldn t get to the cafeteria door before I started to sweat profusely. The 7:25 bell rung to go to class. I walked to my 1st hour class and saw a short, baldheaded, dark skinned man with a whistle around his neck. Before anyone could even come into the classroom, the teacher told everyone make sure their IDs are on.I sat in my desk and didn t pay any attention to what the man had just said. He began to talk about the importance of physical activity and the effect that it has later in life. Ten minutes into the class, the short man yells get out of your desks and let sgo outside! Fairly confused we all got up out of our desks and slowly headed out the door. The whole class met behind the bleachers of the football stadium. We will run a total of 4 miles today, the man yelled. The entire class sent a wave of disgust and disappointment throughout the whole school. Looking like a group of zombies we walked slowly and unenthusiastically towards the high schools field. • 16. Relation Regress Argument Analysis In this essay, I will explain and evaluate the relation regress argument against resemblance nominalism, by arguing in favour of the relation regress argument. Firstly, I will define what resemblance nominalism and the relation regress argument is. Then, I will look at the plausibility of and concerns about Russell s relation regress argument, by comparing it to various counterexamples which argue in favour of resemblance nominalismand are against the relation regress argument. Finally, I will demonstrate why the relation regress argument seems more plausible than arguments in favour of resemblance nominalism. This seems counter intuitive, to accept the existence of universals only when it suits an argument and to decry its existence outside of that. Introduction The sensor nodes in a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) are used for surveillance of ambient environment, which can be unpredictable. The sensor nodes are often exposed to harsh surroundings, which could lead to many problems like failure of the sensing unit, radio transceiver, and processors; not just that, also sensor node death occurs due to energy crunch eventually. So it s understood that faults directly affect the network lifetime of a Wireless Sensor Network. Wireless Sensor Network Lifetime means the time period required for the network to function with the collective effort of sensors even if some of the nodes have failed. When this percentage of failed nodes increases, fault prevention and avoidance strategies are needed to be applied to improve reliability and performance of the network. A reliable WSN yields accurate results. For fault tolerance in WSN, maintenance of a consistent quality of service (QoS) is necessary. Also energy efficiency comes into picture, which is a difficult task to achieve. There are also some software failures related to the operating system or embedded programs in the sensor. • 34. Bedrock River If a river flows over bedrock, the bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility which can distort the shape of the bends in the river (Hooke and Yorke 2011). Substrate influences channel form at the reach scale, with bedrock channel found to be narrower and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). This means that the substrate the riveris flowing over does have an effect on what the river is doing. The bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility, which limits how fast the river can meander. If the river is flowing over a substrate that is easily erodible, and then if it erodes down to bedrock the river will become less sinuous. Meandering rivers are not common in bedrock channels because bedrock channels are narrower and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). The alluvial channels allow the river channel to become wide and therefore the river is able to meander because its channel is so wide. Changing the type of bedrock can influence the width and depth of the river (Whitbread et al. 2015). The maximum width/depth ratio decreases with increasing fracture spacing (Whitbread et al. 2015). There are multiple interpretations concerning how phylogenetic trees are built and the understanding of the phylogenetic species concept. A common mistake when it comes to interpreting phylogenetic trees, which portray evolutionary relationships among taxa. Generally it is viewed as a ladder of progress, yet it is not so simple and is often the most relevant error to occur among reports. People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently. They only appeared to be edifices composed of brick and mortar that consumed up to eight hours each weekday. The schools that I went to from Cunningham in Joliet in my early childhood to MCHS in Minooka for high school, both schools were made to serve a similar function but statistically, the demographics that they served were completely different. There was a higher percentage of children eligible for financial aid services such as discounted or free lunches at Cunningham, hinting at the different economic status of most of the students in attendance. I also remember that there was only one set of classes that everyone was set to take: no advanced or honors courses. I was lucky enough to move out of that district and now go to a schoolthat offers me opportunities that prepare me for a better career. Many who use it do not even know what piece it is taken from, or what exactly it means. It just sounds like a cool, tragic, Shakespearean quote to use to sound more intelligent. And that is the sad truth. Shakespeare s works are filled with quotes, soliloquies, and experts, like this one, that are filled with innuendos, imagery, word choice, etc. One very important literary technique used by Shakespeare, in all of his works, is his symbolism, which portrayed Shakespeare s life, time period, and messages he wished to get across to his audience. (Act II, Scene I, ll 78 82). In this expert the traveler and the undiscovered country symbolizes someone traveling in death onto the unknown after life. This entire soliloquy symbolizes Hamlet s uncertainties of death. One other example of symbolism that is used in Hamlet is a serpent. The serpent, which Hamlet s father s ghost refers his uncle to, represents the evil and deceit that the uncle used to get the crown. Art was not just about the landscape, it actually allowed the spirit of the painter to come alive in their work. The allegory was for moral and spiritual concerns. The vast majority of work recovered from this time is by male authorship. What remains about women of this time is written through the lens of male authors perspective and beliefs about the role of women in Greek culture. The works of these two playwrights frequently characterize women as unstable and dangerous. Agave, Antigone, and Medea are all undoubtedly the driving force behind the tragic action in these plays. It is their choices that lead to the pain and death of the people around them. Through an examination of the evidence from three separate works, Antigone, The Bacchae, and The Medea, the role of women in ancient Greek tragedy becomes clear. The actions of Agave, Antigone, and Medea repeatedly prove their characters instability and danger. Agave in Euripidestragedy, The Bacchae, is a violent example of how women were portrayed. The author also addresses whether these arousals will influence memory in either of two ways. First, arousal through learning, and second through altered mood states through learning and recall (Herz,1999). B) What have other researchers already discovered about this topic? Other researchers have found that caffeine is one of the most psychoactive substances consumed (Gilbert, 1984). Several studies have showed significant findings in which caffeine can affect effects in mood including increasing rates of happiness, well being, calmness, and alertness (Zwyghuizen Doorenbos, Roehrs, Lipschutz, Timms, Roth, 1990). It has also been shown though research that caffeine can elicit anger, anxiety, and nervousness depending on the dose given to participants. Low doses are more likely to increase feelings of happiness, and positive thoughts, while higher doses can elicit anxiety and nervousness. Alcohol has also been researched with its affect on memory. Participants whom had consumed alcohol were more likely to recall more words in a memory test rather than when they were not intoxicated.
