Want to Engage Your Students? Engage Them in the Math PracticesDreamBox Learning
It’s one of the most important questions math teachers ask every day: how do we engage students in meaningful, enjoyable mathematics? In this webinar for the Adaptive Math Learning community, presenters Zachary Champagne, Researcher at the Mathematics Formative Assessment Project at the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM), and Tim Hudson, former Math Curriculum Coordinator for Missouri’s Parkway School District, and DreamBox’s Senior Director of Curriculum Design, shared useful insights about the Mathematical Practices that will help deepen students’ understanding, enjoyment, and success in math class. Zachary and Tim discussed how to stop teaching ‘tricks’ and instead engage students in thinking like a mathematician. They also shared insights about the power of formative assessment, the importance of uncovering students’ intuitive thinking, and how technologies such as adaptive learning can support the Mathematical Practices. Topics included: understanding equality and precision, observing students engaged in sense-making, and designing learning experiences that empower students to “look for” important mathematics. Additionally, Julie Benay, Principal of Malletts Bay School in Vermont, shared how her school implemented DreamBox and the outcomes they experienced. View the webinar to learn how to make math more engaging for your students.
Students Struggling with Times Tables? Develop Mental StrategiesClassroom Professor
Do you find students struggle to recall basic math facts or tables? Use a mental strategies approach to equip students with tools to think about the numbers and visualize how they relate to each other. I recommend you start with ten frames, and gradually and systematically build students' knowledge of basic facts in each operation.

3 Easy Ways to Keep Your Children Interested and Engaged in Math!.pptxUCMAS USA
The abacus has a unique quality that makes math comprehensible. It provides children with a concrete understanding of numbers and the reasoning behind mathematical solutions. Abstract concepts often baffle young minds, and research from University College London indicates that children may struggle with abstract ideas until around the age of 9 or 10. During these critical early years of education, relying solely on memorization can limit their true grasp of mathematics. Abacus math activities, however, bridge this gap by allowing children to make sense of numbers.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
6. A good breakfast- gives you
a better start- Do u know???
• Eating the right morning meal---
• Can have a big impact on brainpower-
Believe me
• A good breakfast- gives you a better
start
• Nuts, milk, and fresh fruit are great
ways to feed your Brain-
10. Learning Disability
• A learning disability is a condition that
produces a gap between someone's ability
and his or her performance.
• Typical learning difficulties include
•Dyslexia,
•Dyscalculia, and
•Dysgraphia –
11. Some students feel like---?/?
• But- OUR job, as teachers is to MAKE
them Love Maths-
12. Afraid of Maths?
• Why are so many of our students so
mathematically afraid?
• Why do so many of our children appear
so distant and so disinterested in so
many aspects of classroom
mathematics?
• Here are some of the reasons below:
13. Learning Math Issues:
Many students claim that there are too
many mathematics formulas to
remember. This can be a contributing
factor to students' lack of interest in
classroom mathematics.
21. RECREATIONAL MATHS &
MATHEMATICAL PUZZLES
• Mathematics is not only a language of
tough equations and logic, it has a real
beauty of thinking, and Puzzles and
Recreational Mathematics is the best
way to explore the deepness of
Mathematics.
22. What if they spent the time on
studying- what they spend on
Chatting?
27. Math Tricks! Mnemonics!
• The word 'mnemonic' (pronounced NI-
MON-IK) is a formula, rhyme or a
simple sentence that helps a person
remember something. Since math is
always perceived by students to be
difficult, there is a greater need to
project its simplicity by the use of
mnemonic devices.
28. • They enhance the storage and recall of
information contained in the memory.
• It can be an ACRONYM-
• e.g. VIBGYOR:
• Violet; Indigo; Blue; Green; Yellow;
Orange; Red.
33. It can be a sentence-
• Like- King Harry Doesn’t Usually Drink
Chocolate Milk
34.
35. MATH Mnemonics- Example
• Some People Have Curly Brown
Hair Through Proper Brushing
• Now you look yourself
on the Capital Letters
Sin x = P/H
Cos x = B/H
Tan x = P/B
36. SOH-CAH-TOA
• Is there any simple way to remember
the Trigonometry formulas?
• Sin x = O/H
Cos x = A/H
Tan x = O/B
56. Go for Mental Maths- It
sharpens your mind- and
saves your time
•
• Avoid using Calculator
57. Let’s see how fast we are in
mental Maths- ;)
• Think of a number- ???
• Double it---
• Add 6 to it
• Divide it into half
• Deduct your number-
• And- the Answer is ???
