Human intelligence in a
software
WHAT IS EXPERT
SYSTEM ?
• An expert system is software that uses a

knowledge base of human expertise for

problem solving, or to clarify uncertainties

where normally one or more human experts

  would need to be consulted.
More on expert systems
• This type of system seeks to exploit
  the specialised skills or information
held by of a group of people on
specific areas. It can be thought of
  as a computerised consulting
service. It can also be called an
  information guidance sytem. Such
  systems are used for proposing
  medical diagnosis or as educational
  aids.
HOW DOES AN EXPERT
     SYSTEM WORKS?

• A creation of a knowledge base which uses some knowledge

representation structure to capture the knowledge of the Subject

    Matter Expert (SME).

• A process of gathering that knowledge from the SME and codifying it

according to the structure, which Is called knowledge engineering.

• Once the system is developed, it is placed in the same real world

problem solving situation as the human SME, typically as an aid to

human workers or as a supplement to some information system.
APPLICATION OF EXPERT
SYSTEM IN MEDICINE
 CaDet (for early Cancer detection)

 CaDet is a computer-based clinical decision support system for

Early Cancer Detection. Cancer risk evaluation and early

detection are subject to serious limitations mainly related to

human factors and to characteristics of the data involve.

A MEDICAL EXPERT SYSTEM
                   The knowledge omes
                   from a few highly skilled
                   advanced doctors -
                   leading experts in their
                   fields.

                   These doctors create
                   their rules and store
                   them in the system
                   knowledge base. After
that is done the system is
                   able to make automated
                   diagnoses suggestions
                   based on patients'
                   symptoms and research
                   data (analyses, etc.).
