Issue Advertising
Issue advertising is all about the creation of awareness with respect the current issues affecting the society. At most times, issue advertising is carried out in a bid to discourage some elements of unproductive human activity; to oust out trends that have not stood the test of time as beneficial. One of the issues affecting planet earth at the moment is deforestation. Deforestation refers to the cutting down of forest cover to get cleared land. It has brought about global warming, bad air quality, swelling-up of coats, and global warming in general. Human beings cut down trees for reasons such as building houses, opening businesses, erecting resorts and creation of golf courses among other reasons.
All the above mentioned courses are noble and pleasing but what good does fancy malls and houses do human kind if they are losing forest cover on a daily basis. The loss of forest cover subsequently compromises the quality of the air we breathe.
It is due to such concerns that an advertising agency like TBWA in Paris, France came up with an initiative to make human kind aware of the dangers of clearing forest cover (Arens, Schaefer & Weigold, 2009). Below is an example of a pictorial composition they came up with. This paper is going to giving invaluable insights on how issue advertising regarding deforestation is executed. In addition to that, it will provide a description and analysis of how the persuasive message i.e. stopping deforestation, can be put across.
Research on Deforestation; an Overview
According to National Geographic, deforestation refers to the clearance of planet Earth’s forest cover on a broad scale such that the land quality is resultantly damaged. Forests currently occupy about thirty percent of the land surface. All the same, swaths matching the size of Panama are gone every twelve months. The rainforests of the world may totally disappear within one century keeping in mind the existing rate at `which people are cutting forests. Forests are usually cut down for myriad reasons, all of these reason.

Human beings cut down trees for reasons such as building houses, opening businesses, erecting resorts and creation of golf courses among other reasons.
All the above mentioned courses are noble and pleasing but what good does fancy malls and houses do human kind if they are losing forest cover on a daily basis. The loss of forest cover subsequently compromises the quality of the air we breathe.
It is due to such concerns that an advertising agency like TBWA in Paris, France came up with an initiative to make human kind aware of the dangers of clearing forest cover (Arens, Schaefer & Weigold, 2009). Below is an example of a pictorial composition they came up with. This paper is going to giving invaluable insights on how issue advertising regarding deforestation is executed. In addition to that, it will provide a description and analysis of how the persuasive message i.e. stopping deforestation, can be put across.
Research on Deforestation; an Overview
According to National Geographic, deforestation refers to the clearance of planet Earth’s forest cover on a broad scale such that the land quality is resultantly damaged. Forests currently occupy about thirty percent of the land surface. All the same, swaths matching the size of Panama are gone every twelve months. The rainforests of the world may totally disappear within one century keeping in mind the existing rate at `which people are cutting forests. Forests are usually cut down for myriad reasons, all of these reason.
Task 3 social action

We can see a black and white colour scheme that has been used consistently, I think that the reason for this is to resemble the colours of the panda which is used for their logo. I think that their panda logo works well with purpose of the organisation which is ‘working in the field of the wilderness preservation, and the reduction of human impact on the environment.’ I think that the way black and white has been used really makes their messages bold and stand out to the audience. I also think that the use of black and white across their campaigns makes then recognisable to the audience and also helps to make a statement overall.
- 3. Greenpeace Greenpeace is an environmental organisation in over 39 countries with the goal to ‘ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity’. They specialise global issues such as deforestation, overfishing, climate change and many more. On the right of this slide we can see one of the campaign posters (on the top) along with the logo the organisation uses (the image below). Firstly, I think that the logo is great because the creator has chosen to go with clear white background which is nicely contrasted with bright green letters. This immediately catches the eyes which is exactly what this organisation would want, the more people they can get to interact with/notice their campaigns; the more change they could make overall. I have noticed between these two images (and after doing further research in to Greenpeace’s campaign posters) I can see that they use fairly bold colours which I think is to focus the audiences attention and ensure that they are getting their message across.

Eco Waste Solutions Eco Waste Solutions specialises thermal treatment of waste and changing the perspective that some people already have on incinerating waste but their overall aim is to find a way of disposing of certain types of waste efficiently and in a way that is health for the environment. After doing some research in to this organisation I have learnt that they are trying to modernise the way certain things are disposed off and I think that to an extent this shows within the logo (shown in the bottom right image) the logo appears modern and ‘high tech’ visually. As for the top image, this was taken from the organisations website and I think that they have made it a priority to ensure that they display that their work has been ‘Proven’ to be economically efficient. I also think that although the two images are of different things, that they are nicely matched to one another.
