The Role Of Recording Studio Technology Essay
The Role Of Recording Studio Technology
Studio technology has developed drastically over the years and has become ever more vital to the
record producer within the music industry. Different producers make use of studio technology in
different ways, often depending on the style of music that they are producing, their preferred
method of production and the band s preference of sound.
The development of recording technology has run parallel to a reorientation in popular music
production. The goal of getting a good sound is no different now than it was when the first
recordings were made, but the idea of what a good sound is and how it should be achieved are
radically different.

He would use quite a lot of compression on Kurt Cobain s vocals so that he could control his
dynamics, and would also do some double tracking.
Vig would record the guitars in a very different way, with a great emphasis on the use of
distortion. On the track Breed , Cobain used a Rat distortion pedal which was direct injected . The
signal was split and run into an amp and the direct injection was run to the board to create a fuzzy
white noise kind of sound (Butch Vig, from R. Buskin: Butch Vig. Talking Garbage. [online]
available from: http://sospubs.co.uk/sos/199/_articles/mar9//butchvig.html. [accessed 29/05/01]).
Working with the band Garbage promoted a different take on producing for Butch Vig. Instead of
simply producing the band, he was also a member of it. Samplers played a huge part in Vig s work
in
Garbage, unlike with Nirvana, where recording was based primarily on live instruments. I got
bored spending so many years recording really fast, straightforward punk records, so that s why
we didn t want to approach the Garbage record from the angle of a band playing live. Instead it
was like We can record 47 guitars on this song, mix it down to a stereo sample, then run it
backwards, record another 20 guitars and process them so that they sound like a percussion
instrument. . (Butch Vig, from R. Buskin:

Compare And Contrast My Cousin
I have no favorites in the family, I love all three of my cousins equally. However two of them are
almost alike while one of them acts like the third wheel, just being dragged along, they all come
from the same parents but were all born with different traits and beliefs. My first cousin is
named Sergio Alvarado, he is twenty three years old. He is a mere short stout bearded looking
man, who has an embarrassing mole the size of a raisin on his left cheek. Sergio is a caring
individual who is really down to earth. He is nice, loving, and a very timid young man. But, if
one does end up pushing his buttons too far. Steer clear for he will give you a beating of a
lifetime. He rarely gets mad he just gets very annoyed when someone touches his stuff or call him
by the nick name Shorro. That name was given to him by me for not being able to pronounce his
name right when I was little. Sergio, is also a man that is fairly reliable if anyone in the familyneeds

admire Sergio and look up to him as a father figure, and I hope that one day I too will be a great

named Mariana. Mariana is fifth teen years old, she is short just like her brother, but in great
shape. She has long dark brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. Mariana or Ana for short is a
kind spiritual young girl. She makes sure that everyone is doing well. But, just like her brother
don t get on her bad side because the girl packs a strong pinch. She s very spiritual about her
Catholic faith and loves attending Sunday mass. She devotes her time to the lord and savior Jesus

Carnival Liberty
Carnival Liberty
It was the most breathtaking, amazing, experience I ve ever witnessed in my life time so far. It was
2:00 am cold Saturday morning on January 2nd, and we were on a bus heading to Chicago airport.
I was going on a Carnival Cruise for 7 days with my boyfriend s family.
On the way to the Chicago airport we all took a huge bus with rows of bench seats that picked us
up from Dubuque then took us to the airport. I tried to sleep on the way there but I was just too
excited to be on this vacation. The bus ride took around 4 hours and we had to stop at least three
times. The first time was because the bus was overheating, the second time was for a bathroom
break and the last time was because the bus was overheating again. I thought we were not going
to make it to Chicago with the bus overheating but we did. We all piled out of the bus excited to
stretch our legs and happy we finally made it.
We all entered the airport with our heavy luggage and tired bodies. After we all got situated we
had to go through security and bag check. I realized I remember why I hated airports because of
the lines we had to wait in and the various amounts of families running around like a chicken with
their head cut off. As we got through all the long lines of people we waited at our terminal for our
flight time to board. Finally it was time to board our plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Earth Science Essay
1. Summarize advances over time in determining the age of the Earth, including the importance of
the discovery or radioactivity.
Herodotus counted layers of earth near the Nile River in 450 B.C.E. The Bible was used in the
Middle Ages to compute the age of the Earth. The 18th and 19th centuries brought a more scientific
look into determining the age of the Earth by studying the salinities of the oceans, the rates of
sedimentation, and models of cooling of different materials in order to calculate the Earth s age.
In 1862, William Thompson calculated the Earth s age to be 98 million years and recounted that
age to determine that it was actually between 20 and 40 million years old. He used a very thorough

Gravity and centripetal force are fighting against each other to maintain celestial bodies in an orbit
around the Sun. The 1% of the mass in our Solar System that didn t get sucked into the Sun is what
makes up our planets, asteroids, and moons. The centripetal force acting on the planets aligns them
with the Sun s equator and creates the mostly flat orbit of the Solar System.
3. Alfred Wegener was a polar explorer and visionary. Describe how his early work was viewed
with skepticism and how ultimately his theory on continental drift was proven. What kinds of
evidence did Wegener rely on to substantiate his continental drift hypotheses (Pangaea)?
He was viewed as a meteorologist and not a geologist. With no real geological knowledge, he
formulated the continental drift theory was due to tidal pull from the Sun or centrifugal force.
Because scientists of the time couldn t believe that continents could float through rock as if it
were liquid. We now know that due to convection that we see through seismic tomography that
the Earth is a kind of liquid on which the lithosphere is floating. His basis was partly due to the
edges of the continents fit together as a puzzle. Also, rocks, plants, and animals that were spread
across the globe must have started together because a rock didn t swim to its new location. 4.
Explain how seismic tomography has been used to show what is actually happening on Earth.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Essay
Introduction
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgery that is done when arteries of the heart have
become narrow or blocked. This is usually caused by the buildup of fat called plaques. These
arteries give the heart the oxygen and nutrients it needs to pump blood to your body.
During CABG, a section of blood vessel from another part of the body is taken. This section is
called a graft. The graft is placed where there is narrowing or blocking.

Abstract Comcast has had significant success in delivering visibility into the availability of future

campaign goals are achieved. In addition, they provide valuable demographic analytics to help
sales executives and customers efficiently and efficiently meet their target segment. While the

The ad that first aired in July 1941 was for Bulova watches, and the results were significant in
terms of sales. This pioneering event encouraged other businesses joined in the effort and advertise
on television, and things took off from there. In soon time, television advertising became known as
being, a cost effective way of reaching the masses . Many years later, this trend would continue, and
would continue to take up more time during any given hour of programming.
Today, advertising has become a multi billion dollar business, both with their product endorsement
and their capture of audiences. For Comcast, it is estimated that advertising is their second highest
revenue generating business, and it is believed that they are the biggest advertising company in the
Nation, if not the world, when it comes to the amount of advertising inventory they manage and the
revenue that is generated. This is due to the fact that companies and Networks alike are willing to
spend significant amounts of money to advertise, and the revenue at stake, for all involved, is
substantial.
Given the cost, and value, of advertising, there has also been an interesting shift in the industry. As
mentioned, companies are willing to spend the money necessary to reach their audiences, but at the
same time, they do not want to create any waste. In advertising, waste is considered any audience
that is not represented in the customer

people in the United States of America that are bad people. If she were to pass this law then i

would be a bad situation to out this country into. Another thing that she plans on doing as soon as

older. I will look at dementia specifically, as a type of illness that affects majority of the elderly
population in the world we live in. The population is ageing and people are living longer than
before hence new diseases affecting the older generation are settling in.
The WHO (World Health Organization) says that Dementia should be considered a part of the

The global impact of dementia costs
The cost of dementia worldwide is greater than costs of cancer and heart disease combined together
and this cost is expected to rise as the number of people with the disease is rising. The worldwide
cost of dementia is estimated at US$604 billion while in Europe it is estimated at €160billion
(Wimo et al., 2011).
The United Global Declarations sees dementia as an important cause of morbidity and also see the
need to provide equitable access to effective programmes and health care interventions (UN, 2011)
Policy Response to Dementia in Ireland
The policy response available in Ireland for people with dementia currently is to try and encourage
them to live in their own homes for as long as possible (The Years Ahead, 1988). In order for them
to live in their own homes, the government must take into consideration the following:

Elie Wiesel Indifference
Indifference is a blurred line between light and darkness. Indifference is dangerous. Indifference
is seductive. Indifference is unnatural. Indifference is tempting. Indifference is careless.
Indifference is not a beginning, it is an end. The Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel in his speech,
The Perils of Indifference, claims that indifference has multiple hazards. He supports his claim by
first comparing indifference or lack of interest to it being more dangerous than anger and hatred,
then comparing the meaning of indifference to not only a sin, but to a punishment. Wiesel s
purpose is to define indifference in order for us to be aware of its effects so that we can do
something about it. He creates a serious, thankful,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the Rwandan genocide which happened in 1990, 54 years after the Holocaust,
approximately murdered 800,000 people in 100 days. The genocide all started because the
president at this time was a Hutu and was shot down from his airplane. As a result, the group Hutu
thought that the other group Tutsi had planned it all out. To clarify, the Hutu group was angry with
the Tutsi, which caused violence. The United States decide not to get involved because they didn t
want any more problems. As a matter of fact, Wiesel had thought that the American army decided
not to get involved as well as he stated in paragraph 17. In other words when Wiesel was in the
concentration camps, he thought that the American army had decided not to intervene with Hitler
and his men.
Ultimately, Elie Wieselis an extraordinary human being. Why did Elie Wiesel decide to write his
life changing speech you might ask. Wiesel decide to come up with is speech because he wanted
to illustrate the dangers of indifference using personal experiences and historical examples. He
wanted us to learn why indifference is so inhumane. He wanted us to know that there are other
genocides going on and that the century/society of today should not commit these same mistakes.

In Why Asian Mother are superior by Amy Chua, the author explains how she raise her
daughters by not allowing them some things with the purpose of getting the best for them. I
have some similarities in the way of how she treats her daughters but I also share some
differences with her drastic methods. I do believe that Chinese methods are effective; however,
I do not agree with them and also I do not believe they are superior than others. My parents are a

bombing had a great impact on the whole world for World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor
had many situations before the bombing, during the bombing, and after the bombing. The
bombing of Pearl Before was a bombing that the country of Japan had declared on the United
States and had planned prior to the event. Japanese had many reasons why they bombed the
Naval Base of Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan following the decision of the
Governor of Premier, Hideji Tojo, that the Roosevelt administration would not abandon the
regions of South East Asia and China to the Japanese military or continue to supply Tokyo with
oil and other valuable resources that they would need in the war. The Emperor of Japan, Emperor
Hirohito, wanted to enlarge the territory and power of Japan. Japan wanted the natural resources of
oil and aluminum that are found in the Netherlands East Indies, but in order to gain these resources
they had to get through the United States first (Quiroz 2). In July of 1939, President Roosevelt
decided to end the 1911 Japan Treaty of Commerce and Navigation with the Japanese. In reaction of
President Roosevelt doing this the Japanese were getting furious with The United States of

Prostitution, The Act Of Prostitution
Prostitution, the act of providing or receiving sexual acts, between a prostitute and a client, in
exchange for money or some other form of remuneration (Hock 557). The idea of exchanging sex
for valuables has been seen since the beginning of human society; the first reported data about
prostitution was reported around 3000 B.C.E in one of the first known civilizations, Mesopotamia
(Caraboi and Fierbinteanu 362). Also, prostitutionis often referred to as the world s oldest
profession. Today, even though prostitution is illegal in most parts of the world, it is still prevalent
worldwide with many different types of prostitutes and different ways to exchange sexual services
for payment. An example of a type of prostitute is brothel workers; brothel workers work in a house
of prostitution, a brothel, which are normally in areas where prostitution is not criminalized (Hock
560). Like prostitution, human traffickinghas been around for thousands of years and is still present
today.
The United Nations on Drug and Crime (UNODC) is the international agency that handles issues
about human trafficking and other organized crimes. The UNODC defines human trafficking as the
recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of
force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, or fraud, or deception ( What is Human Trafficking?
). The transatlantic slave trade is an example of human trafficking; slave traders transported millions

Essay On College Athletes Are Not Paid
College athletes have always been worked beyond imagine, and it is ridiculous to think that even
in today s society, college athletes are not paid. Unlike regular college students, student athletes
are not able to work jobs or make extra money because they put over forty hours a week in to their
respective sport. More often than not collegeathletes are taken advantage of because they put their
bodies at risk for injury and have no insurance or income to make it worthwhile. Of course, some
college athletes do go on to make millions of dollars, but that is only the case for a small
percentage of college athletes, and since college sports brings in billions of dollars a year, college
athletes should earn at least a small profit. Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Allen Sack, athletes are already essentially paid to play, by getting to go to college
for free, but they also deserve the same rights and benefits as other employees, which could
include medical benefits, workers compensation when injured, and the right to build financial
security for their family while in college, and the denial of these rights is morally
unconscionable (Sack). It does not make sense that college athletes are not paid because these
athletes are the sole reason for popularity in the college athletic apparel market, which brings in
millions of dollars a year, yet college athletes do not see a dime, even though they are the reason
for sold jerseys and other apparel. Even worse is the fact that college athletes are prone to getting
injured and a rising star with a great future ahead of him or her can have their contract
(scholarships) canceled once a school realizes that they will no longer be bringing value or money
to their school. Of course, this sounds cruel, but it is the reality for some college athletes, and it is
an option that must be extinguished because not only do regular students deserve reassurance and
stability, but college athletes do

The Internet And Its Effect On Society
In the time it takes a person to read this sentence 684,478 pieces of content will be shared on
Facebook, 100,000 people will tweet, hundreds of thousands more will like an Instagram
photo...and that s if they read very quickly (Marrouat). Today, many people use the Internet for
everything. The internet has many benefits, anyone that has a computer with internet can find
any information and can even add to it. That s why the Internet is known as the collected
knowledge of millions of people. The most popular tool of the Internet though, is its way for
socialization. Socialization is referring to the way people communicate and how they do it.
There are places where people can go to get in contact or stay in contact with others and places
where people go to talk about their interests. Facebook is an example of a place where people can
socialize and talk with friends and acquaintances or even join chat rooms. The internet is drastically
changing the way people communicate and interact with each other. Because of this dependence on
the Internet, our relationships with other people are diminishing. There are many different ways
that humans interact together. The way most of America interacts is over Social Media. There are
many problems involved with this. Relationships with people all around the world are weakening.
Social Media today means that people can find acquaintances to be their friend on Facebook or to

Compare And Contrast Egypt And Greek Clothing
Aren t ancient Greece and ancient Egypt such wonderful civilizations?
Ancient Greece formed in the year 1200 BC while ancient Egypt formed in the year 3100 BC.
Ancient Egypt is known for their large pyramids, the Nile River, pharaohs, artwork, and their
accessories. Ancient Greece is known for their mythology, their simple fashion sense, an early form
of the olympics, Alexander the Great, and The Persian War. Ancient Egyptand ancient Greece are
very unique in their own way. Greece and Egypt both had ancient civilizations, but they differ in
their clothing/appearance and their jobs.
Foremost, the people of ancient Greece were very concerned with their clothing and their
appearance. They tried their best to look presentable and clean. The clothing that they wore were
very comfortable and simple. The machine that they use to create their clothing was called a loom.

Almost all of the Egyptians clothing was made of linen. Out of the linen, men commonly wore
kilts while women wore dresses with two straps attached. Although, they usually left the linen
their natural beige color, they made the clothing different colors using plant based dyes. During
the New Kingdom, when the pharaoh Ahmose came into ruling, clothing began to get more
complicated. They had robes with a pleated linen design that laid against the body elegantly. For
special events both men and women wore short medium length wigs. No matter your age or your
gender, jewelry was a must! One of the most iconic things of ancient egypt is how the rich wore
eyeliner around their eyes that is made out of kohl. Another common thing to do relating to
makeup is wearing oils. Since the desert it is very hot, the oil keeps them from drying up, looking
old, and being dry was not they re favorite. To smell fresh, woman bathed often and put on sweet
smelling perfumes. As you can see, ancient Egypt was also very concerned with the way that they

Equality Expectations And Envy By Alain De Botton
Alanah Claybaugh
Mr. Brian Isbell
Composition I
08 September 2015
Equality, Expectations and Envy In chapter two of Status Anxiety, Equality, Expectations and Envy
, Alain de Botton explains to readers that perturbation about self image is caused by feelings of
inadequacy, which are usually self inflicted. Envy occurs when a person compares themselves to
the people around them. Botton contends, our judgment of what constitutes an appropriate limit . .
.on wealth or esteem is never arrived at independently. . . ;it is formed when a person compares
their surrounding with a reference group (25). People are compelled to do better because of
jealousy and feelings of insufficiency. For hundreds of years, there was the thought that ... Show

Even the equal rights revolution in America still didn t prevent the resentment felt by most. In
fact, it made it worse. Tocqueville noticed that when people are set to the same level, the slightest
variation is easily spotted (32). He asserted that, when people fail to rise to who they think they
can be, it causes them to feel self hatred and underachievement (33). The success stories of others
who have risen up from the dirt do not help the esteem of the people who think what and how
much they have done in life is insignificant (41). William James, looked at the psychology behind
the sociological problems created by expectations. James wrote an equation to describe self
esteem, which is equal to the ratio of success rate to perceptions of ability. The equation suggests
there are two ways to raise self esteem: one, work harder and achieve more, or two, want to
achieve less things (36). Botton s interpretation of James s ideas signify Rousseau s argument that
we may be happy enough with little if little is what we have come to expect, and we may be
miserable with much if we have been taught to desire everything,

Cari s Story Essay
A.)How could an infection in Cari s nasal passages and pharynx spread into her sinuses?
Since Cari is a smoker, cigarette smoke has paralyzed her cilia and stimulated the goblet cells
lining her respiratory passages to secrete excess amounts of mucus. Ducts from the sinuses open
into the internal nose providing a passageway for microorganisms to travel into the sinuses.
B.)What is the couch reflex? Describe the process that Cari s respiratory system is using to clear her
lungs by couching.
A long drawn and deep inhalation followed by a complete closure of the glottis, which results in a
strong exhalation that suddenly pushes the glottis open and sends a blast of air through the upper
respiratory passages. Stimulus for this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The presence of fluid in the alveolar space could potentially cause the lung capacity to be effected
as well.
G.)How does the elevation of Cari s respiratory rate alter her minute ventilation?
The higher her respiratory rate the more liters of oxygen needed to supply for the loss in her lungs.
To get the minute ventilation you take the breaths per min times 500mL/breath and that gets your
liters of oxygen per min.
H.)How do the the clinical findings relate to the internal respirations in Cari s body?
Cari s po2 is 54 mm Hg so therefore her lungs were working as if she was doing intense exercise
although she wasn t. Decreased oxygen saturation and PO2, decrease the efficiency of gas
exchange between the arterial blood and tissues of the body.
I.)Which of the symptoms Cari s has described are due to the lack of oxygen and reduced oxygen
exchange in her tissues?
Cari s states, I feel like I m panting like a dog, and my chest hurts Her shortness of breath, fatigue
and headache are all results of the lack of oxygen exchange to her tissues. The pH of her blood was
rising due to the hyperventilation also.
J.)As Cari s Pco2 rose, how was the oxygen carrying capacity of hemoglobin affected?
As Pco2 rises, hemoglobin releases O2 more readily. Pco2 and pH are related factors because low
blood pH (acidity) results from high Pco2.
K.)How would you have expected Cari s decreased Pco2 and alkaline blood pH to have affected her

Gait Assessment
Gait is the most important function of daily living activities for all human beings. As physical
therapists and researchers we are particularly interested in evaluation of gait. There is a distinct
necessity for objective measurement of gait because without it the excellence of treatment decisions
is condensed, due to subjective and often unreliable nature of the assessment. Objective measures
must be employed to validate efficacy of the treatment protocol, a function that has become
imperative since health care resources are becoming more strained and health care providers are
held more accountable1. Gait assessment is an everyday responsibility of the therapist, and visual
assessment seems unreliable and erratic for the most part. Measurement... Show more content on

autism3 5. Walking on toes has numerous consequences and primary gait deviations are seen in
subjects at ankle joint6. Evidence also shows that idiopathic toe walkers have significant increase

Narrative Structure Of Unforgiven
Almost all movies have characteristics that categorize them in two or more genres. A great
example of this being Unforgiven. The film s dark and cynical characters occasionally resemble
that of a film noir while its overall narrative structure depicts itself as a classical western style
film. While there is an argument to call Unforgiven a film noir, it is hard to deny the idea that the
film is mainly a film of the westerngenre. The basis of this idea, mostly relies on the portrayal of
the lead protagonist, and the end of the film. While it would be easy to use setting, lighting, camera
angles, etc to manifest the idea, it would not do it justice. By using these narrative tropes, it
becomes coherent that Unforgiven is just another well made film that uses the structure of a
western to construct its plot.
Clint Eastwood s character, William, is a perfect example of the western classic hero. For example,
the character is unknown to both the viewer and to the society in the film. In The Structure of
The Western Film, the author describes the second similarity found in a western film as The hero
is a stranger to this society (41). One of the first scenes in Unforgiven shows William living in a
small home accompanied by his kids far away from the rest of civilization. His dirtied appearance
gives the audience the interpretation he is just an ordinary farmer trying to make a living and
support his family. However, he has an unknown past that is not fully discussed till much

The Severing Nature Of Sin In Jenson s View Of God
Like any relationship, the relationship between God and his people requires input from both
parties. One of the ways to positively engage in the relationship is through prayer, however, one of
the ways to both actively and negatively engage in this relationship is through sin. Many historical
and social developments have shifted sin into the realm of ethics, however, for Jenson, it is a
theological concept. It is a theological concept in the sense that it relates to the active relationship
between man and God, which stems precisely from being made in the image of God. As a result,
sin is what breaks up this active relationship and community that God has established. Jenson
achieves this conception of sin by once again analyzing God s identity in scripture, specifically his
active... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sin is not only the rejection of one s relationship with god, but a rejection of one s relationship to
other human beings as well. The aforementioned good moral life is not an individual goal that is
separate from God or other human beings, it is a collective goal that forms a community that this
sin destroys. The severing nature of sin stems directly from the story of Adam and Eve: their
betrayal of God through manifests itself in original sin and relationship severing consequences,
there is a division between humans, in which the woman is directed to be ruled by the husband,
and a division between man and God, in which the people are banished from the garden of Eden
and its many blessings. However, sin is only a rupture, not a complete dissolution, of one s
relationship with God and thus, it is mendable and redeemable. Jenson states that what reunites us
with God is not any of our particular works or actions, rather what unites us with God is our trust in
what happens in Christ. It is precisely this faith and only this faith, this trust, that touches our lives
to the divine drama (Jenson

Gender Representation Of Female Gender Roles Affect...
Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage
the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact,
Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women.
Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical genderroles affect society through social
oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible
to have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that
which is more significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity
is emphasized and its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings
the song I ll Make a Man out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical
representation of masculinity is obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for
sons? further points to the notion that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to
fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s main goal is to make a man out of each member in the
army. The assertion is that femininity is not acceptable; the womanly recruits have been
transformed into real men in order to competently fight the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion
in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save the day (2004). Although the film appears
to be supporting feminist ideals as

Great Lakes Water Piping
Great Lakes Water Piping
Unbiased Introduction For years, there has been debate over who has access to the water in the
Great Lakes. The Great Lakes provide about 20 percent of the world s freshwater resources and
many areas would like to use that water for various purposes. Water is also becoming a valuable
resource, with many areas lacking the access to it necessary for their area s needs. Because of
this, lawmakers passed a compact in 2008 that was designed to protect the Great Lakes against
pressure from other States to withdraw water (Kalsness, 2011). A compact is an agreement
between states or nations that bind them to whatever they agreed upon. This compact makes sure
that areas outside of the Great Lakes region do not have access to the water. Despite this compact,
some want to use the Great Lakes to pipe water to other states that do not have the same natural
resources. Proponents of this piping say that is gives water to areas that need it and that it will
provide additional income to the area (Cauchon, 2006). Opponents say that piping would go against
water conservation and environmental protection as well as water management. They also say that
it is a natural resource that belongs to the area and should not be taken away to other areas of the
country (Dempsey, 2008). Currently, the debate continues about the correct use of the resource of
the Great Lakes.

Film Theory Aesthetics
In this essay I will be deconstructing stills from the music video, Died for Love, created for The
Unthanks within the module DE1194 and providing evidence on how it corresponds to existing
film theory. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as
she struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss
and isolation as she prepares herself for death.
I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism,
showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s
narrative whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were
used to convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made
relating to the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be
expanded into how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. I will also discuss
how the images have similarities to avant garde and surrealist films and whether animated
characters can relate to live action performances within film.

  • 2. The Role Of Recording Studio Technology Essay The Role Of Recording Studio Technology Studio technology has developed drastically over the years and has become ever more vital to the record producer within the music industry. Different producers make use of studio technology in different ways, often depending on the style of music that they are producing, their preferred method of production and the band s preference of sound. The development of recording technology has run parallel to a reorientation in popular music production. The goal of getting a good sound is no different now than it was when the first recordings were made, but the idea of what a good sound is and how it should be achieved are radically different. The role of the recording producer in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He would use quite a lot of compression on Kurt Cobain s vocals so that he could control his dynamics, and would also do some double tracking. Vig would record the guitars in a very different way, with a great emphasis on the use of distortion. On the track Breed , Cobain used a Rat distortion pedal which was direct injected . The signal was split and run into an amp and the direct injection was run to the board to create a fuzzy white noise kind of sound (Butch Vig, from R. Buskin: Butch Vig. Talking Garbage. [online] available from: http://sospubs.co.uk/sos/199/_articles/mar9//butchvig.html. [accessed 29/05/01]). Working with the band Garbage promoted a different take on producing for Butch Vig. Instead of simply producing the band, he was also a member of it. Samplers played a huge part in Vig s work in Garbage, unlike with Nirvana, where recording was based primarily on live instruments. I got bored spending so many years recording really fast, straightforward punk records, so that s why we didn t want to approach the Garbage record from the angle of a band playing live. Instead it was like We can record 47 guitars on this song, mix it down to a stereo sample, then run it backwards, record another 20 guitars and process them so that they sound like a percussion instrument. . • 3. Compare And Contrast My Cousin I have no favorites in the family, I love all three of my cousins equally. However two of them are almost alike while one of them acts like the third wheel, just being dragged along, they all come from the same parents but were all born with different traits and beliefs. My first cousin is named Sergio Alvarado, he is twenty three years old. He is a mere short stout bearded looking man, who has an embarrassing mole the size of a raisin on his left cheek. Sergio is a caring individual who is really down to earth. He is nice, loving, and a very timid young man. But, if one does end up pushing his buttons too far. Steer clear for he will give you a beating of a lifetime. He rarely gets mad he just gets very annoyed when someone touches his stuff or call him by the nick name Shorro. That name was given to him by me for not being able to pronounce his name right when I was little. My second cousin is named Mariana. Mariana is fifth teen years old, she is short just like her brother, but in great shape. She has long dark brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. Mariana or Ana for short is a kind spiritual young girl. She makes sure that everyone is doing well. But, just like her brother don t get on her bad side because the girl packs a strong pinch. • 4. Carnival Liberty Carnival Liberty It was the most breathtaking, amazing, experience I ve ever witnessed in my life time so far. It was 2:00 am cold Saturday morning on January 2nd, and we were on a bus heading to Chicago airport. I was going on a Carnival Cruise for 7 days with my boyfriend s family. On the way to the Chicago airport we all took a huge bus with rows of bench seats that picked us up from Dubuque then took us to the airport. I tried to sleep on the way there but I was just too excited to be on this vacation. The bus ride took around 4 hours and we had to stop at least three times. The first time was because the bus was overheating, the second time was for a bathroom break and the last time was because the bus was overheating again. I thought we were not going to make it to Chicago with the bus overheating but we did. We all piled out of the bus excited to stretch our legs and happy we finally made it. We all entered the airport with our heavy luggage and tired bodies. After we all got situated we had to go through security and bag check. I realized I remember why I hated airports because of the lines we had to wait in and the various amounts of families running around like a chicken with their head cut off. As we got through all the long lines of people we waited at our terminal for our flight time to board. Finally it was time to board our plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herodotus counted layers of earth near the Nile River in 450 B.C.E. The Bible was used in the Middle Ages to compute the age of the Earth. The 18th and 19th centuries brought a more scientific look into determining the age of the Earth by studying the salinities of the oceans, the rates of sedimentation, and models of cooling of different materials in order to calculate the Earth s age. The 1% of the mass in our Solar System that didn t get sucked into the Sun is what makes up our planets, asteroids, and moons. The centripetal force acting on the planets aligns them with the Sun s equator and creates the mostly flat orbit of the Solar System. 3. Alfred Wegener was a polar explorer and visionary. Describe how his early work was viewed with skepticism and how ultimately his theory on continental drift was proven. What kinds of evidence did Wegener rely on to substantiate his continental drift hypotheses (Pangaea)? He was viewed as a meteorologist and not a geologist. With no real geological knowledge, he formulated the continental drift theory was due to tidal pull from the Sun or centrifugal force. Because scientists of the time couldn t believe that continents could float through rock as if it were liquid. We now know that due to convection that we see through seismic tomography that the Earth is a kind of liquid on which the lithosphere is floating. His basis was partly due to the edges of the continents fit together as a puzzle. Also, rocks, plants, and animals that were spread across the globe must have started together because a rock didn t swim to its new location. 4. In soon time, television advertising became known as being, a cost effective way of reaching the masses . Many years later, this trend would continue, and would continue to take up more time during any given hour of programming. Today, advertising has become a multi billion dollar business, both with their product endorsement and their capture of audiences. For Comcast, it is estimated that advertising is their second highest revenue generating business, and it is believed that they are the biggest advertising company in the Nation, if not the world, when it comes to the amount of advertising inventory they manage and the revenue that is generated. This is due to the fact that companies and Networks alike are willing to spend significant amounts of money to advertise, and the revenue at stake, for all involved, is substantial. Given the cost, and value, of advertising, there has also been an interesting shift in the industry. • 29. Narrative Structure Of Unforgiven Almost all movies have characteristics that categorize them in two or more genres. A great example of this being Unforgiven. The film s dark and cynical characters occasionally resemble that of a film noir while its overall narrative structure depicts itself as a classical western style film. While there is an argument to call Unforgiven a film noir, it is hard to deny the idea that the film is mainly a film of the westerngenre. The basis of this idea, mostly relies on the portrayal of the lead protagonist, and the end of the film. While it would be easy to use setting, lighting, camera angles, etc to manifest the idea, it would not do it justice. By using these narrative tropes, it becomes coherent that Unforgiven is just another well made film that uses the structure of a western to construct its plot. Clint Eastwood s character, William, is a perfect example of the western classic hero. For example, the character is unknown to both the viewer and to the society in the film. Many historical and social developments have shifted sin into the realm of ethics, however, for Jenson, it is a theological concept. It is a theological concept in the sense that it relates to the active relationship between man and God, which stems precisely from being made in the image of God. As a result, sin is what breaks up this active relationship and community that God has established. The severing nature of sin stems directly from the story of Adam and Eve: their betrayal of God through manifests itself in original sin and relationship severing consequences, there is a division between humans, in which the woman is directed to be ruled by the husband, and a division between man and God, in which the people are banished from the garden of Eden and its many blessings. Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact, Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women. Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical genderroles affect society through social oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible to have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that which is more significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity is emphasized and its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings the song I ll Make a Man out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical representation of masculinity is obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? further points to the notion that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s main goal is to make a man out of each member in the army. The assertion is that femininity is not acceptable; the womanly recruits have been transformed into real men in order to competently fight the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save the day (2004). Although the film appears to be supporting feminist ideals as ... • 32. Great Lakes Water Piping Great Lakes Water Piping Unbiased Introduction For years, there has been debate over who has access to the water in the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes provide about 20 percent of the world s freshwater resources and many areas would like to use that water for various purposes. Water is also becoming a valuable resource, with many areas lacking the access to it necessary for their area s needs. Because of this, lawmakers passed a compact in 2008 that was designed to protect the Great Lakes against pressure from other States to withdraw water (Kalsness, 2011). A compact is an agreement between states or nations that bind them to whatever they agreed upon. This compact makes sure that areas outside of the Great Lakes region do not have access to the water. Despite this compact, some want to use the Great Lakes to pipe water to other states that do not have the same natural resources. Proponents of this piping say that is gives water to areas that need it and that it will provide additional income to the area (Cauchon, 2006). Opponents say that piping would go against water conservation and environmental protection as well as water management. They also say that it is a natural resource that belongs to the area and should not be taken away to other areas of the country (Dempsey, 2008). Currently, the debate continues about the correct use of the resource of the Great Lakes. Supporting For Arguments Those who are in favor of piping the water out of the Great ... • 33. Cross Cultural Issues, Walmart in South Korea Essay CROSS CULTURAL ISSUES WALMART IN SOUTH KOREA Wal Marts venture into South Korea is yet another example of a company attempting to duplicate its strategies and business model unsuccessfully. Their continued losses forced them to withdraw their investment after failing to adapt to the environment, the culture and customer needs. Wal Mart should have adjusted their leadership style to be able to transcend context as well as engage in cultural sensitivity by localising their business to suit consumer preferences. They lacked in cultural sensitivity or empathy i.e. the awareness of and honest caring for other cultures (Derskey amp; Christopher 2008). They therefore didn t understand the culture and it cost them money and opportunities which lead to a 9.9 billion net loss and withdrawing from the country (Sang Hun 2006). Not enough strategic planning was undertaken in order to assess just what these demanding consumers required and they therefore weren t a desirable shopping venue for the South Koreans. Even after 8 years of operation, Wal Mart were still unable to fix the major problems the company faced. They were still not able to provide consumers with what they wanted and had no choice but to sell their subsidiary to their major competitor. South Koreans cultural dimensions differ largely from the US. According to Hofstede s models South Koreans cultural dimensions are uncertainty avoidance, collectivist, and long term orientation. The US dimensions include individualism, masculinity, and they have low rankings in uncertainty avoidance, long term orientation and power distance (Hofstede 2009). These differences mean that negotiation factors, communication, leadership techniques and issues such as time must be dealt with differently in these cultures. It shows that greater planning and understanding needs to take place in order to successfully penetrate different regions as they have vastly different values, needs and ... • 34. The Pros And Cons Of The Korean War The Korean War caught most in the international community off guard and happened only five years after World War II had ended. It had been expected that the Soviets would test the West s will and Korea had been listed as a possible battlefield. However, Berlin, Greece, Turkey, or Iran all seemed far more vulnerable. The Korean Warcame as a shock to Turkey, as well. Besides negative impacts, the Korean War presented the young Republic with several opportunities. Being a UN member and a recipient of Marshall Aid from the USA, the Turkish government was still in need of improving its image as a reliable country needed by the Western alliance for maintaining peace and security in the world. Although the Turkish government had been frustrated by that decline, they made their second application a week after sending Turkish Brigade to Korea. For the second time, Turkey was not admitted to the NATO. • 37. Film Theory Aesthetics Of The Music Video Died For... пїјDavid Burtle Northumbria University DE1209 James Leggott 29 April 2016 Film Theory Aesthetics In this essay I will be deconstructing stills from the music video, Died for Love, created for The Unthanks within the module DE1194 and providing evidence on how it corresponds to existing film theory. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as she struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss and isolation as she prepares herself for death. I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism, showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s narrative whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were used to convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made relating to the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be expanded into how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. I will also discuss how the images have similarities to avant garde and surrealist films and whether animated characters can relate to live action performances within film.
