Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned
Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border
with Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States
with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less
can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being
suspended for 12 months. So why does Texastake a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why
does Texas keep throwing money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow
Texans are going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground.
Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and policy against
marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti
marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso (Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas
had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but then the stories of people using
marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff
Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the
substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will come to
the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was prevalent
in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans but nobody gave it any

Cindy Sherman s Untitled Film Stills
Cindy Sherman, well known for her photography of her representing issues that commonly
represent both the roles of being an artist, being a woman and the two combined. Sherman grew
up in a large family that did not have any interest in art. Her knowledge of art growing up was
very minimal until she went to college. She, then, started to paint. She quickly realized she did not
like painting because of the lack of intimacy or recreation of a particular setting. She did, however
love photographyand started pursued an interest in that.
A variety of her works in the late 1970 s were called Untitled Film Stills. These were portraits of
Sherman playing stereotypical woman roles in the 1960 s and 1950 s. Although, these were not self

Ethnography Dancing Skeletons
Ethnography Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa Response: I found Katherine
A. Dettwyler s, Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa very interesting though I did
not like the way in which it was written. To me it was written in a very scattered brain way,
similar to how a hyperactive childs diary would look like. At times when Dettwyler was trying to
explain something, she would go into tangents, mostly about her own personal opinions of the
topic, which ruined the mood of the book, lessened the impact of whatever she was talking about
at the time and frankly, it just annoyed me. I found it difficult to understand what was trying to
be said and it made it difficult to read. I think if she didn t try to cover so much in such a small
book malnutrition, female circumcision and other random topics I would have enjoyed it more.
One thing that I did like was how she wasn t political on her trips to Mali, she just talked to
people. She didn t preach just talk and I think that s what helped improve these people s lives. It
was interesting but I wouldn t read it again or recommend it like I did for the Spirit Catches You
and You Fall Down. Main Points: Though Dettwyler was scatterbrained, I did recognize some of
her main points for writing this book. Her main points were to show the importance of nutritional
health and how there are many ways to help people and the best way to achieve this was to take a
holistic approach and proper education. When the CARE

In the United States (U.S.) 117 million adults have chronic diseases, approximately 24.3% of this
population has at least one chronic disease and 26% has multiple chronic diseases (Ward,
Schiller et al. 2014). Seven of the top 10 causes of deaths in the U.S. are chronic diseases
(Statistics 2016). Incidence and mortality rates are different for different racial groups (CDC
MMWR, 2013); African Americans (AA) particularly experience higher incidence and mortality
rates for chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease (CDC, 2013). Furthermore, African

health messages (data not shown). When stratified by intervention status, controls showed a similar
pattern of results. However, these findings were not observed among the intervention group.
However, those in the intervention group attending churches with more health messages had lower
CRP compared to intervention participants in churches with fewer health messages (mean: 1.76 vs.

Summary Of The Five Tragedies In Macbeth
Thesis: I believe that the identity of manliness, is not only defined by a male. Think you are able to
gain manly qualities, and lose them.
Bernad, Miguel A. The Five Tragedies in Macbeth. Shakespeare Quarterly, vol. 13, no. 1, 1962,
pp. 49 61. JSTOR, JSTOR, www.jstor.org/stable/2866894. Accessed 3 October 2017.
In the article The Five Tragedies in Macbeth, authored by Miguel A. Bernad, describes the five
events that lead to the climax of the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare. In the
beginning he talks about the physical tragedy that strikes Macbeth, and the people in Macbeth.
He says that Macbeth had a deep internal power hunger, and then it turns into literal actions. The
author explains how killing Duncan led to a cluster of murders. Which eventually lead to the
end of his life, and his wife s. In the text the author is comparing the play Macbeth to Hamlet
both authored by William Shakespeare. He compares them both to have no loose ends , and both
close every situation clearly (Bernad 2). He also says that Macbeth s personality and his bravery is
similar to Lady Macbeth in the play. He says no ordinary woman could call upon the spirits of
darkness as she does (Bernad 3). He says that she was more ruthless than any woman, and in all
honesty more ruthless than Macbeth. This shows the role of genders are turned all throughout the
play. He then talks about the hallucinations in the play that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth had.
He says at the beginning

Disadvantages Of Subsidies
Question 1
a)Advantages of Subsidies
Reduces cost of production (Anon: 2014).
Recourses are released to be used for other resources, for example, expansion (increase in supply)
(Anon: 2014).
The firms competitive edge in terms of prices increases. Subsidies enables firms to cover their costs
without making their products unaffordable (Anon: 2014).
Disadvantages of subsidies
It is expensive and will require higher taxes (Xayaan: 2013).
The extent of the positive externality is difficult to estimate (Xayaan: 2013).
Giving subsidies to firms may encourage inefficiency, because the firms might rely on government
aid. The government may also have poor information about the service and how much it has to
subsidise (Xayaan: 2013).
Subsidies distort market prices for e.g. export subsidies distort the trade in goods and services and

Tariffs imposed on foreign goods and services may harm domestic manufacturers in the long run
because it often benefit one sector at the expense of the other (Buchanan, R: 2013).
Import tariffs might reduce customer s choice in a sense that, when tariffs are placed on imported
goods, the increased prices and reduced trade prohibit individuals from all choices that could be
available in the market (Morelock, J: 2014).
c)Advantages of Globalisation
Globalisation increases Free Trade, the increase in capital liquidity allows investors in well
developed nations to invest in developing countries. Big corporations from developed countries
have great flexibility to operate in other countries (Anon: 2014).
Globalisation reduces war between well developed countries (Anon: 2014).
Helps building stronger trade ties and dependencies between countries (Anon: 2010).
Adds contribution to the spread of technology (Anon: 2010).

Allegorical Metamorphosis
Allegorical Metamorphosis Metamorphosis is transformation of an insect from an immature
form to an adult form. Although this term is ordinarily used in Biology, Franz Kafka uses this
term to title his peculiar story. This is a story about a young man named Gregor Samsa, who is a
traveling salesman. He is a typical hardworking man trying to pay off debts. However, he wakes
up one morning as a human sized beetle. His parents see him as a beetle, they react negatively, but
his sister, Grete, is not so concerned. In months following, she helps him get through the change.

Psychoanalysis was started and influenced by Sigmund Freud. The object of psychological literary
theory is to analyze the phycology of the author or the characters in the book. Applying
psychological analysis to the Metamorphosis will require a critique to identify vital Freudian
concepts such as; consciousness, unconsciousness, Oedipus complex and phallic symbol.
Sigmund Freud states, our mind has two parts: conscious and unconscious. According to Freud,
feelings, horrors, drives, conflicts and memories are part of the unconscious. A recent article
published in research journal of recent sciences also says The Metamorphosis is a symbolic
presentation of Gregor s unconscious world. (Barfi, 2013, p. 107). This is also supported in the
book. In the opening scene of the book Gregor enters unconscious world. At the start of the book
The Metamorphosis one morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he
discovered that in the bed he had been changed in to a monstrous verminous bug. (Kafka, 1999, p.
1). In this quote the author uses words like waking and dream. One may infer from these words;
Even though Gregor woke up, but in fact he transfers from conscious to unconscious world.
Oedipus complex is a psychoanalytic theory denotes the ideas that deals with a child s sexual
desire for the opposing sex parent. The Metamorphosis has many examples of Oedipus complex,

The Importance Of The Tet Offensive
The Tet Offensive was the single largest military campaign executed during the Vietnam War. Not
only was it the largest, it was considered the most important. Named after the Vietnamese New
Year, this epic military assault was launched on January 30, 1968, by Viet Cong and North
Vietnamese People s Army of Vietnamforces against the U.S. and South Vietnamese forces. The
offensive was created by North Vietnamese military leaders and designed to deliver surprise attacks
in South Vietnam, subsequently overwhelming U.S. and allied forces with the intent to sway the
war by causing an uprising in South Vietnam. Prior to Tet, the war had been considered an utter
stalemate with both sides continuing to depict casualty ratios as a measure of success. In addition,
effective bombing campaigns by the U.S. in North Vietnam and fear of resource allocation to
continue the war, North Vietnam political and military leaders were determined to change the war.

The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay
The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which
society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science,
religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the
period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic
Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death,
there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned
to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as
opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a
Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied
the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas
one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons,
the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and
theologically, and scientifically. His works not only represented the period, they affected the
continuance of the Renaissance.
Leonardo Da Vinci2 was born on April 15th, 1452 to a Florentine notary and an unmarried peasant
woman named Caterina out of wedlock in Anchiano, Tuscany. His mother considered him an

Explain How Economic And Economic Conditions Influence...
Economic conditions influence people s attitudes towards post materialist issues depending on the
economic situation they grew up in., Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist, argued that the
economic conditions that a person experienced early in their life influences their world views
throughout their life. For example, individuals who grew up in economic uncertainty tend to
emphasize materialistic views in terms of their political preferences. As a result, these individuals
are more likely to care about job security, wage stability, and health care. In contrast, individuals
who grew up with economic security tend to emphasize post materialistic views in terms of their
political preferences. As a consequence, these individuals are more likely

It didn t happen that way either. I m not sure how it happened; not exactly. p. 303 I really admire
Margaret Atwood for incorporating questions a reader has while reading the novel and somehow
answering it through this writing technique. Unlike other authors who tell their story without room
for the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Offred often brings up
that what this is a retelling, a reconstruction of events encouraging the reader to actually analyze
whether they believe her story or not. For me, this style of writing has influenced me into thinking

Years earlier, Offred had visited with Luke, cheating on his wife and here she was again with the
Commander, also cheating on his wife. The irony between the two times has really allowed me to
witness how little Offred has changed compared to the immense changes that have occurred in
society. Perhaps Margaret Atwood wanted to transfer this message to her readers or maybe she just
wanted to allow the reader to easily follow this devastating tale. In any case, this technique worked
well for me throughout the span of the novel.

How Did Walt Disney Create Mickey Mouse?
The public is filled with Disney products and endorsements. Disneyland is known as the happiest
place on Earth and all in thanks to the creator, Walt Disney. Children now look up to Disney as a
source of hope, faith and inspiration for the future. Disney left behind tracks to what a child needs
to grow and to become happy with the idea that magic exists. His first creation was brought to life
by placing upon the name Mickey. It is interesting to note that Mickey Mouse started out as an
impish, mischievous character that played a cow s teeth like a xylophone in his first movie. He
also performed other nasty little tasks as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new Oswald model was adapted directly from a non Oswald character in another Lantz
cartoon: the Cinecolor Fox and the Rabbit (1935), released some two months earlier as the last of

Cartune Classics series. It subsequently took his company 78 years to get back the rights to the
Oswald character when in 2006 the Walt Disney Company reacquired the rights to Oswald the
Lucky Rabbit from NBC Universal. (Bellis, 3).
Mickey was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. In the spring of 1928,
Disney asked Ub Iwerks to start drawing up new character ideas. Iwerks tried sketches of various
animals, such as dogs and cats, but none of these appealed to Disney. A female cow and male
horse were also rejected. They would later turn up as Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar.
Walt Disney got the inspiration for Mickey Mouse from his old pet mouse he used to have on
his farm. Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride
from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself
were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner. (Disney, 5). Hugh Harman drew
some sketches of mice around a photograph of Walt Disney. These inspired Ub Iwerks to create a
new mouse character for Disney. Mortimer Mouse had been Disney s original name for the
character before his wife, Lillian,

Before going into the meeting with Texoil, I had assessed my BATNA as mentioned by Fisher,
Ury, and Patton (1991, p. 100). Since ads to sell the station had been running for a few months
with no attractive propositions, I was becoming open to the possibility of not selling the station
at all and continuing to run it it became a definite element of my BATNA, although it would
mean that my husband and I would be abandoning our dream plans. BP had already offered
$400K for the station and even though that was a much lower amount than I was expecting, I
could simply accept this offer and leave for my trip this was also part of my BATNA. Of course,

None of this would have been news to the Texoil representative, but it established a common
understanding of the value proposition involved and built some trust. Based on other changes that
Texoil would be expected to make to the operations, such as adding a mini mart and a 3rd operating
shift, I asked for a reasonable price of $590K.
The Texoil representative rejected our initial selling price and claimed that he was not
authorized to spend this much money. It is likely that this was simply a means to negotiate
down with us. He made an offer of $500K for the station, significantly under cutting our
suggested price. My spouse and I did our best to get the representative to improve his offer but
were not able to do so. We re iterated over the reasons/justifications for pricing the station as we
had done, even presenting scenarios to show the undeniable profitability of the enterprise.
Although the representative did not move on price, we were able to extract a concession in terms
of employment for both of us at a fairly attractive annual salary. In the end the Texoil representative
met our reservation point and we were able to conclude with a deal that was favorable to both sides.
In this negotiation, I could see that we covered all the three elements of negotiation moving from
Information phase to Competitive phase and ultimately arriving at the Cooperative phase.

The best thing for seniors to do is to learn how to protect their skin from ticks and fleas. Ticks

Sexual Relations Between A Person And An Animal
Bestiality is defined as sexual relations between a person and an animal; : sodomy.
Having sex with animals was originally linked to people living in rural areas where they were
around livestock, and there may have been fewer women. In today s world it has become
something else, and that is, people who actually prefer to have sex with animals over human
beings. It has been reported that Bestiality involves roughly 8 percent of men, and 4 percent of
women .
In 1948, Wardell Pomeroy and Clyde Martin, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (W. B.

Geometry In Roller Coasters
Math in Roller Coasters The main elements in creating roller coasters are physics and geometry.
Geometry is a branch of mathematics with the properties and the relations of points, lines,
surfaces, and solids. Speed is to move exceedingly fast, at different rates. Math is used to
calculate the height of roller coasters. Engineers calculate the perfect angles, heights, and the
directions that allow roller coasters to reach speeds without going off the track. They use some
machines to test the roller coasters and the models to make the perfect angles ( How Is Math
Used for Roller Coasters? ). Designers have to be sure the angles and the measurements work the
right way before they go back to designing the actual roller coaster. Roller coasters... Show more

Engineers must know the exact length and the exact height for the drops of the coaster, the cart
that people sit in, and the space that is needed for the people who are waiting in line. They also
must know the angles and the weight of the train to build coasters really tall. An angle is the space
(usually measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point
where they meet. They must think about the slope of the drop, the number of inverts, the amount
of turns, the height, the speed, the length, and the amount of breaks that the ride needs. The slope
and the height are important features of coasters. They determine if the train will get through the
track at a constant speed; if they made loops or even bank turns. Length is an issue in how high
the engineers must make a drop and what angle to make it at. Operating roller coasters is a very
important with math because the person that is operating must know exactly what time to launch
the train or else two coasters might collide. Engineers must think about the amount of space that is
available for a coaster. ( Roller Coasters and Math. ) ( Roller

1. To whom is the sermon addressed?
The sermon is addressed to the congregation.
2. According to Edwards, why is God wrathful?
People are wicked sinners, and God s wrath is infinite and arbitrary.
3. Reread the sixth paragraph. What people, according to Edwards, are not in the hands of this
angry God? How is this state achieved?
Reading the sermon he claims that, Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart,

A Report On Unhappy Triad
Madison Kruse
Athletic Training II
Spring 2015
Alternative Paper
Unhappy Triad The unhappy triad is an injury involving three major ligaments, hence triad , being
completely or partially torn. As imagined, the pain felt from this is excruciating, therefore earning
the name unhappy or terrible triad. Being a very common injury in contact sports, the background,
characteristics, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the unhappy triad are all essential to
understanding this injury.
The unhappy triad, also known as blown knee , terrible triad , or O Donoghue triad , is named after
Dr DH O Donoghue, an American orthopaedic surgeon who described this injury back in 1950.
This injury includes full or partial tears of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), the Medial
Collateral Ligament (MCL), and a meniscus. The unhappy triad happens to about 25% of athlete s
knee injuries. The unhappy triad is a very common sports injury, especially in contact sports where
the knee can often be hit. It is thought to be the most common knee injury in football and can occur
when the knee is clipped during a tackle.
Normally, the unhappy triad occurs when the foot is planted and the knee is hit and pushed in
another direction. This causes the ligaments and tendons to tear and rip, thus causing the terrible or
unhappy triad. The most common and serious thing that happens to cause a unhappy triad starts
with the ACL. The ACL provides stability to the entire knee and it can be difficult to

Persuasive Essay On Locker Searches
I feel that locker searches are an invasion of one s privacy. I also feel that through locker searches
we would be able to increase safety among schools, campuses, locker rooms and many other
places. Lockers are a area where you place a assortment of things in which for some people could
include hazardous things such as weapons, drugs, etc. Although all this is at risk I still feel as
though lockers should be private. And if one is not to be trusted with a locker why should he or

Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson And Edgar Lee Masters
Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Lee Masters were three literacy scholars, who without
a doubt evolved American literature. They were each able to break the ancient stigmas, and created
supplementary freedom when it came to what a piece of literature can offer. They were known to
speak upon various topics that were recognized as inappropriate within the society, but that didn t
stop them from stating their beliefs. Common similarities that these literacy masters shared
amongst each other were constant themes of death, afterlife and religion. Although these three
themes made a regular occurrence in their pieces of literature, each writer had different views
towards the various themes which were displayed throughout their texts, and pieces of poetries.
Walt Whitmans thoughts towards the topic of religion, and the afterlife was displayed throughout
one of Whitman s most prodigious works, Song of Myself. He intertwines his most deepest, and
intimate beliefs on self spirituality, and death. In section 48 of Song of Myself he mentions that, I
have said that the soul is not more than the body, / And I have said that the body is not more than
the soul, / And nothing, not God, is greater to one than one s self is... (Whitman, Walt) In section
49, Whitman continues to add, And as to you Life I reckon you are the leavings of many deaths,
/ (No doubt I have died myself ten thousand times before.) (Whitman, Walt). It seems as though
Whitman is implying to readers that

Defining An Adult
Society s definition of an adult can and is very controversial, because society says a person is an
adult when that individual reaches the age of eighteen, which is the legal age. The definition that
society gives is controversial because, if an individual is not looked at as an adult until the age of
eighteen, but can be tried in court at the age of sixteen and up. Societies definition falls apart at this
point. Basically, what society is telling us that a personwho is out in the world committing adult

The human brain finishes developing at the age of twenty five. Just because some individual
stops growing physically between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, does not mean that they are
adult ready. Society thinks that at eighteen you are ready to face the world at eighteen, society is
wrong. At eighteen you do not have all the skills needed to be an adult, most importantly the
individual is not biologically ready. The individual is not mature enough to be considered
biologically ready for adulthood. To have the maturity level if an adult, a person needs to
understand the difference from right and wrong, can defend themselves appropriately, cannot let
things get to them to make them mad or over react. This is something that society really does not
care about, if the person is biologically ready to be an adult. A lot of the people who are
considered adults today are still in high school or in their first year of college, those individuals are
out here making the same teenage immature mistakes that anyone else is making. Although a
person is making childish mistakes and even though this individual knows that they are not ready to
be an adult they are still considered an adult because well they meet society s adult standards. Most
individuals do not obtain the most important thing about being biologically ready which is maturity
until the age of twenty five when their brain is done developing. I think that this

The Effects Of Pertussis On Infants Under The Age Of One...
Descriptive
This study focuses on pertussis affecting infants under the age of one in Bell County. As mentioned
earlier, pertussis is given to infants at the age of two, four and six months (Center for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2015). Even though, a number of the infants acquire this immunization,
their immunity still lacks. In 2012, there was a report of 21 confirmed cases in the local area of
pertussis and 20 that were unconfirmed (Fort Hood Sentinel, 2012). There was a confirmation that
pertussis was seen in children under the age of one. Additionally, doctors have made it clear that
the infants that contracted pertussis at a younger age are at risk for respiratory compromise (Fort
Hood Sentinel, 2012). Pertussis has been described as an upper respiratory disease in which 10 12
days later the child develops this whopping cough.
In Bell County, the doctors recommended immediate notification if an infant is affected so
treatment can promptly begin. It is significant to understand that pertussis can kill the infants which
is the reason why vaccination among the adults and children is imperative. Of course, the infant can
obtain immunized for pertussis and sometimes the immunity is not guaranteed for the infant. Every
Child by Two (2015) states that 90% of deaths for children under one is related to pertussis.
Additionally, among half of those infants required hospitalization for their condition. According to
the CDC, children who do not acquire their five doses of

Role Of Cost And Price Leadership For Tesco
P4 IMPROVEMENT WORK Porters 5 Forces for Tesco. Cost and leadership Cost and price
leadership was developed by Michael porter and it was to help companies make use of a strategy
which would put them on top of their competitors known as a competitive advantage. The cost
and price leadership aim at increasing the profits and market share of Tesco s through charging
their customers lower prices, while still being able to make a profit on every sale they make.
This is beneficial to Tesco s as it will attract customers to their store rather than them going to a
store such as Morrisons to purchase products. An example of Cost and price leadership was when
Tesco began competing against Asdas, Tesco s decided to lower the cost of their prices which they
cut 25% of the price on over 380 items. This method bears advantages such as Increase in profits,
increased brand awareness, an expansion of there customer base. Disadvantages may include
potential of a loss, it may also lead Tesco s to making cheaper products Differentiation Strategy

increasing technology, the question will be whether to offer classes or take up classes online, but
rather how to implement them effectively and efficiently. Hence a student must have to weigh a

Once our presentation was complete, we handed out the post test with the same questions as the
pre test, but in a different order. Once we had collected the tests, we calculated the mean scores
of both, pre and post, and compared them in order to assess what the classes knowledge before,

Comparing Obama s Narrative And Myth
Narrative and myth are central in political rhetoric. It is essential for a politician to place
themselves as narrators (story tellers) and to be identified as a representation of this story,
because their primary goal is to persuade as many people as possible to choose them as their
leader. Two of the most effective types of narrative are ethnic and civic and were central to
Barak Obama s vision of a unified America, during his campaign. By telling his personal story,
which were ethnically and racially neutral in tone, Obama manages to steer clear of the racial
ethos as well as presenting his family as advocates of the American political principles (or
political ethos) of nationalism. His is a narrative of inclusion. His personal story reflects the
political myth of the American Creed (one in which America is united by its political beliefs,
regardless of religionor ethnicity) and puts forward widely held symbolic perspectives of American
nationalism, representing one s identity and loyalty to his/her nation.

Legend Of Orpheus Comparison
Throughout Opera s long history, the myth of Orpheus has been one of the genre s most
recognized stories. Many operas have been based on the Greek legend of Orpheus. The legend
of Orpheus tells a story of the demigod musician whose songs conquer Hades itself with their
beauty. The use of music in the Greek legend serves the same purpose, as music does in operas,
to show the power of music, and how it can change emotions, and how intertwined music and love
is. This tale of love, a love so strong it can overcome death, shows how true passion can bring
music to life. The Operas show that music is able to soften any heart and overcome any obstacle.
Out of all the Operas composed based on the Orpheus legend, there are two that stand out the ...

When Benedetto Handel advised Gluck that his works had not pleased the public he traveled to
Paris where he was very much influenced by the operas of Jean Philippe Rameau. From 1755 to
1761 he was in Vienna, where he began reforming operaalong the more dramatic lines suggested in
Marcello s Teatro alla moda. Gluck composed his piece Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762.
In the legend, Orpheus is considered the greatest musician to have ever lived. He was the son of
the God Apollo, the god of the son, music, truth and prophecy. According to the story, Orpheus
wife Euridice was unfortunately bitten by a snake and killed while trying to escape from
Aristaeus, a Shepard, who was overcome by her beauty and was pursuing her through the
woods. When Orpheus learned of Euridice s death he was grief stricken and sang, he sang a
tune so beautiful it deeply touched everything, living and not living, in all the world and the
heavens above. He descended into Hades, and when he played his song, even managed to melt
Hades cold heart. He was told that he told take Euridice, but only on one condition, he could not
look upon her until they were out of the underworld. As foreshadowed, Orpheus could not resist
looking back before they had fully escaped the underworld, and he lost her forever along with
meeting his own death soon after. Both operas replace the tragedy of the original myth with
something more suiting and cheerful. In L Orfeo, the opera ends with Orpheus being

When quantity supplied do not equal quantity demanded the outcome is either excess supply or

The excess demand pushes prices upwards in decreasing the quantity demanded and increasing the

A Closer Look into Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey
Steffany Brinker
University of Maryland University College
Abstract
There are many influential women around the world, but the two that come to mind for me are
Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey. Both Ellen and Oprah have had their shows for multiple
years, but they offer more than just a talk show. These two accomplished women touch the lives of
many around the world on a daily basis. While these two women are both in the same industry, it is
nice to see they support each other. Neither of these women had an overnight success, they worked
through their struggles to make them who they are today. I think their life struggles makes it more

Music In Video Games Essay
Music In Video Games
Throughout the history of the video game industry, there has been many changes concerning music
in video games. Music in video games progressed greatly within the life of the industry from 1972
to the present. These progressions can be seen as improvements in quality which includes an
increase in the number of output channels, an increase in song length, a great improvement in the
quality of timbres, and also a general shift from non programmatic music to programmatic music
which fits a game. If one takes a close look, one can see that all of these improvements are either
directly or indirectly resulting from improvements in the technology which is used to produce video
game music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ARAM is a memory storage area which performs two main functions. The first of its functions
is to store data concerning the layout of a song. This data contains information such as which
voices will be played at what time, specifications concerning a song s rhythm, dynamics and
structure, and any other information which is used by the sound CPU when it produces sounds.
When compared to music in the mainstream musical industry, the ARAM can be seen as the
musical score which musicians read in order to gain the information to play a song. Since the
ARAM stores a song s structure, increasing the size of the ARAM will obviously have a profound
effect on the overall length and the variations in structure of a particular song. The result is that an
increase in
ARAM will yield songs which are longer and contain more variations within its structure. These
changes are particularly important in video games since quot;a monotonous melody which repeats
every few seconds can lead to boredom and even frustration in a player. quot;1 Therefore, video
game programmers are now becoming more and more aware that programming long varying
songs can keep a player from becoming bored and switch to another game. Thus, this partially
increases a player s liking of a particular game.
The other function of the ARAM is to store information which defines the timbres in a song. Sound,
like many other things which occur in nature, actually consists of waves which travel through a

Skeletal Muscle Myogenesis
Skeletal muscles are highly complex and heterogeneous tissues, serving a multitude of functions in
different organisms. The process of generating muscle myogenesis can be divided into several
distinct phases [40]. Ubiquitin mediated protein degradation is one of the main mechanisms for
controlling proteolysis, which is crucial for muscledevelopment and maintenance. Recently notch
signaling has appeared as a key player in skeletal muscle development and regeneration. Simply
stated, Notch signaling inhibits differentiation. Accordingly, fine tuning the pathway is essential for
proper muscle homeostasis.Less is known regarding the functions of ASB proteins in muscle
development, although various ASB proteins are found to be expressed in the skeletal... Show more

Studies identified desmin as a new ASB2ОІ target for proteasomal degradation in cardiomyocytes
suggesting accumulation of desmin could contribute to UPS impairment in HCM mice and
patients. Desmin is a muscle specific, type III intermediate filament that integrates the sarcolemma,
Z disk, and nuclear membrane in sarcomeres and regulates sarcomere architecture[43]. Recently
ASB2 was found to be assisting in the ubiquitination of Notch targets such as E2A and Janus
kinase 2 by forming a non canonical E3 ligase complex[44]. Jak2 is likely bound with ASB2, but
bound with E2A via F BOX containing protein, Skp2, also known to associate with Skp1 and Cul1.
Moreover, ASB2 was activated by Notch signaling showing its involvement as regulator of Notch
signaling. In multicellular organisms, Notch signaling pathway is a highly conserved signaling
pathway. In spite of the fact that ASB2 is involved in degrading key proteins involved in cell
proliferation and differentiation, more studies are required to understand the variations occurring in
the ASB2 mediated ubiquitylation

Serialism Essay
Definition:
Serialism is a rigorous system of composing music in which various elements of the piece are
ordered according to a pre determined ordered set or sets, and variations on them. The elements thus
controlled may be the pitch of the notes, their length, their dynamics, their accents, or virtually any
other musical quantity, which, in serial terms is called a parameter. More generally, serialism is any
music which uses any ordered sets applied to any musical element.
Whilst researching serialism I came across a quote which I find very relevant to our studies at the
moment. The quote reads: Serial music is like spinach. People grow up hearing others complain
about how terrible it is. Some people eventually try it and agree that ... Show more content on

When a tone row is turned backwards, its rhythmic pattern is also reversed. For example, a minum
followed by a quaver followed by a semi quaver becomes a semi quaver followed by a quaver
followed by a minum. It is in this way that every conceivable musical element is manipulated.
Although this music is very organized it is often, ironically, perceived to be very chaotic to the
listener.
*Listen Stockhausen Gesang der Junglinge
Serialism was greatly influential in post War music. Serialism was revolutionary and declared itself
as a new tonality . Serialism created an environment where experimentation with sound was at the
forefront of composition, which led to increased use of electronics as well as other applications of
mathematical notation to composition.

a person buys a dental insurance plan by paying a monthly or annual premium to a dental insurance

Through the 1940s and 1950s, America was beleaguered with anxieties about the menace of
communism arising in Eastern Europe and China. Profiting out of such worries of the nation,
young Senator Joseph McCarthy made an open charge that hundreds of card carrying communists
had penetrate in the United Statesgovernment. Although his allegations were found ultimately to be
false and the Senate reproached him for improper ways, his ardent shakeup heralded as one of the
most tyrannical era in 20th century American politics. While the House Un American Activities

Communist Party and other left leaning political pressure lobbies in the Unites States. It was
decided that the HUAC had been set up by Congress in 1938 to examine people distrusted of being
unpatriotic and hence more bent to oust the government (McCarthysm, spartacus.schoolnet.co).
Modern researches, of course, show opposing viewpoints about McCarthysm as interpreted during

Exploring The Cost Of Hydraulic Fracturing Essay
Exploring the Cost of Hydraulic Fracturing in Colorado: What are the potential effects of the Tres
Rio 2016 Oil and Gas Lease/Sale on Montezuma County s public health, ecological communities,
and economic stability?
Introduction
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique often administered by oil and gas companies in
order to create fissures within subsurface shale formations. After a site is established, the initial
step entails breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill
moves through the rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The
drill ceases immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the
drill is removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination
of the water source and as a safety measure.
Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be
introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas
exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow.
The gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and
chemicals into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored.
Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as
an energy source. Radioactive waste water also

The United States Army Signal Corps
The storied history of the United States Army Signal Corps is lined with technological achievement
and advancement. Evidence of the technological advancement and achievement is seen in the
Signal Corps development of the Airplane, the meteorological service and more recently the
massive improvement in net centric communication, which has led to greater command and
control for leaders in the field. It is now time for the Signal Corps to tackle the next big project,
and that project is robotics, a field that can change the way the Army fights and wins wars.
Robotics is a rather large field with limitless capabilities, but there is one place in particular that
robotics can have the highest impact, and that is security. Securing our military bases , be it forward
operating bases, outposts, or even our garrison areas have become a major issue over the last
decade and countless lives have been lost in doing so but with the use of robotics we can make it
safer. Using robotics in base security will allow the United States Armyto make massive changes in
force employment and the Signal Corps already has the tools necessary to make this happen with a
little help from the outside world.
One of the key concepts in changing force employment is the creation of a more flexible force
capable of responding to complex situations while maintaining security and working to achieve the
Army s goals of seizing, retain and exploit . One example of such a robot is the Mobile Detection

Considering the events of her life, would it be more realistic to consider that Mary Todd Lincoln
went insane/ diagnosable to today s standards of being bipolar, or was she just in a state of post
traumatic stress? From the deaths of her 14 month old brother and mother during childhood, to the
neglect she faced from her son later in life, it was clear that Mary Todd Lincoln certainly dealt with
a considerable amount of stressors in her lifetime. Throughout this study, journal articles, websites,
primary sources, and books were used to provide more insight on the details of her life and what
she went through.
Mary Todd Lincoln: A Biography, by Jean Harvey Baker, a U.S. History major with her B.A.,
M.A., and Ph.D in 19th Century Women s History, describes that Mary Todd Lincoln was much
maligned and misunderstood during her lifetime and furthers the developing question as to whether
or not she could be deemed insane. Baker discusses that Mary Lincoln appeared to others as
unwomanly, due to her inclinations to want to share her talents with her husband throughout his
political career. Other claims of her insanity are said to have branched from the torments and

  • 2. Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border with Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months. So why does Texastake a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso (Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was prevalent in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans but nobody gave it any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cindy Sherman s Untitled Film Stills Cindy Sherman, well known for her photography of her representing issues that commonly represent both the roles of being an artist, being a woman and the two combined. Sherman grew up in a large family that did not have any interest in art. Her knowledge of art growing up was very minimal until she went to college. She, then, started to paint. She quickly realized she did not like painting because of the lack of intimacy or recreation of a particular setting. She did, however love photographyand started pursued an interest in that. • 4. Ethnography Dancing Skeletons Ethnography Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa Response: I found Katherine A. Dettwyler s, Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa very interesting though I did not like the way in which it was written. To me it was written in a very scattered brain way, similar to how a hyperactive childs diary would look like. At times when Dettwyler was trying to explain something, she would go into tangents, mostly about her own personal opinions of the topic, which ruined the mood of the book, lessened the impact of whatever she was talking about at the time and frankly, it just annoyed me. I found it difficult to understand what was trying to be said and it made it difficult to read. I think if she didn t try to cover so much in such a small book malnutrition, female circumcision and other random topics I would have enjoyed it more. One thing that I did like was how she wasn t political on her trips to Mali, she just talked to people. She didn t preach just talk and I think that s what helped improve these people s lives. It was interesting but I wouldn t read it again or recommend it like I did for the Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Main Points: Though Dettwyler was scatterbrained, I did recognize some of her main points for writing this book. Her main points were to show the importance of nutritional health and how there are many ways to help people and the best way to achieve this was to take a holistic approach and proper education. Cbr Intervention Model In the United States (U.S.) 117 million adults have chronic diseases, approximately 24.3% of this population has at least one chronic disease and 26% has multiple chronic diseases (Ward, Schiller et al. 2014). Seven of the top 10 causes of deaths in the U.S. are chronic diseases (Statistics 2016). Incidence and mortality rates are different for different racial groups (CDC MMWR, 2013); African Americans (AA) particularly experience higher incidence and mortality rates for chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease (CDC, 2013). No other statistically significant associations were observed for the continuous form of health messages (data not shown). When stratified by intervention status, controls showed a similar pattern of results. However, these findings were not observed among the intervention group. However, those in the intervention group attending churches with more health messages had lower CRP compared to intervention participants in churches with fewer health messages (mean: 1.76 vs. 2.44, p=0.05; Table 2). When CRP was dichotomized (i.e., ≤3.0 vs. 3.0mg/L) the odds ratios between those attending churches with fewer health messages compared to those attending churches with more health messages were as follows: all participants (odds ratio [OR]=2.78, 95% confidence interval [95%CI]=1.19 6.48), intervention (OR=5.86, 95%CI=1.51 22.81), and control (OR=1.27, 95%CI=0.40 4.09; data not ... In the article The Five Tragedies in Macbeth, authored by Miguel A. Bernad, describes the five events that lead to the climax of the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare. In the beginning he talks about the physical tragedy that strikes Macbeth, and the people in Macbeth. He says that Macbeth had a deep internal power hunger, and then it turns into literal actions. The author explains how killing Duncan led to a cluster of murders. Which eventually lead to the end of his life, and his wife s. In the text the author is comparing the play Macbeth to Hamlet both authored by William Shakespeare. He compares them both to have no loose ends , and both close every situation clearly (Bernad 2). He also says that Macbeth s personality and his bravery is similar to Lady Macbeth in the play. He says no ordinary woman could call upon the spirits of darkness as she does (Bernad 3). He says that she was more ruthless than any woman, and in all honesty more ruthless than Macbeth. This shows the role of genders are turned all throughout the play. • 10. Allegorical Metamorphosis Allegorical Metamorphosis Metamorphosis is transformation of an insect from an immature form to an adult form. Although this term is ordinarily used in Biology, Franz Kafka uses this term to title his peculiar story. This is a story about a young man named Gregor Samsa, who is a traveling salesman. He is a typical hardworking man trying to pay off debts. However, he wakes up one morning as a human sized beetle. His parents see him as a beetle, they react negatively, but his sister, Grete, is not so concerned. In months following, she helps him get through the change. Without Gregor working, the family is financially suffering. Gregor dies from an apple thrown by his father. Surprisingly, the families lives improve after Gregor s death.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychoanalysis was started and influenced by Sigmund Freud. The object of psychological literary theory is to analyze the phycology of the author or the characters in the book. Applying psychological analysis to the Metamorphosis will require a critique to identify vital Freudian concepts such as; consciousness, unconsciousness, Oedipus complex and phallic symbol. Sigmund Freud states, our mind has two parts: conscious and unconscious. According to Freud, feelings, horrors, drives, conflicts and memories are part of the unconscious. A recent article published in research journal of recent sciences also says The Metamorphosis is a symbolic presentation of Gregor s unconscious world. (Barfi, 2013, p. 107). This is also supported in the book. In the opening scene of the book Gregor enters unconscious world. At the start of the book The Metamorphosis one morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in the bed he had been changed in to a monstrous verminous bug. (Kafka, 1999, p. 1). In this quote the author uses words like waking and dream. One may infer from these words; Even though Gregor woke up, but in fact he transfers from conscious to unconscious world. Oedipus complex is a psychoanalytic theory denotes the ideas that deals with a child s sexual desire for the opposing sex parent. Named after the Vietnamese New Year, this epic military assault was launched on January 30, 1968, by Viet Cong and North Vietnamese People s Army of Vietnamforces against the U.S. and South Vietnamese forces. • 12. The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science, religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death, there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons, the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and theologically, and scientifically. His works not only represented the period, they affected the continuance of the Renaissance. Economic conditions influence people s attitudes towards post materialist issues depending on the economic situation they grew up in., Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist, argued that the economic conditions that a person experienced early in their life influences their world views throughout their life. For example, individuals who grew up in economic uncertainty tend to emphasize materialistic views in terms of their political preferences. As a result, these individuals are more likely to care about job security, wage stability, and health care. Unlike other authors who tell their story without room for the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Based on other changes that Texoil would be expected to make to the operations, such as adding a mini mart and a 3rd operating shift, I asked for a reasonable price of $590K. The Texoil representative rejected our initial selling price and claimed that he was not authorized to spend this much money. It is likely that this was simply a means to negotiate down with us. He made an offer of $500K for the station, significantly under cutting our suggested price. My spouse and I did our best to get the representative to improve his offer but were not able to do so. We re iterated over the reasons/justifications for pricing the station as we had done, even presenting scenarios to show the undeniable profitability of the enterprise. Although the representative did not move on price, we were able to extract a concession in terms of employment for both of us at a fairly attractive annual salary. In the end the Texoil representative met our reservation point and we were able to conclude with a deal that was favorable to both sides. In this negotiation, I could see that we covered all the three elements of negotiation moving from Information phase to Competitive phase and ultimately arriving at the Cooperative phase. When comparing these findings to the average driver, these results are very promising. Teoh and Kidd write, Results suggest that highly automated vehicles preform more safely than human drivers in certain conditions, but will continue to be involved in crashes with conventionally driven vehicles (57). This further enforces the statement that self driving cars can reduce accident numbers; however, only if autonomous cars are implemented on a massive scale. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an organization committed to reducing injuries on the road, released an article entitled Automated Vehicles for Safety. Each and every student learning technique are different and learn differently and in today s world of increasing technology, the question will be whether to offer classes or take up classes online, but rather how to implement them effectively and efficiently. Hence a student must have to weigh a huge list of pros and cons before they choose one of the two options, since the means of education for these are different. Students have an opportunity to plan their own study time, if they choose online classes instead of other way round where the university will decide the class time or lecture time. Online classes can be taken at their own pace, sitting at their own home or at any place they feel comfortable, on the contrary students should physically attend classes as per the time prescribed by the professor, live near to the campus. In the online classes there is more flexibility than traditional classroom because you can do your coursework any time of the day or night without having a set schedule when you have to do your coursework. As part of our lesson, we included a pre, and post test to assess the class knowledge about Africa. We had the class take the pre test before starting our presentation. Once our presentation was complete, we handed out the post test with the same questions as the pre test, but in a different order. Once we had collected the tests, we calculated the mean scores of both, pre and post, and compared them in order to assess what the classes knowledge before, and after we presented the material. It is essential for a politician to place themselves as narrators (story tellers) and to be identified as a representation of this story, because their primary goal is to persuade as many people as possible to choose them as their leader. Two of the most effective types of narrative are ethnic and civic and were central to Barak Obama s vision of a unified America, during his campaign. By telling his personal story, which were ethnically and racially neutral in tone, Obama manages to steer clear of the racial ethos as well as presenting his family as advocates of the American political principles (or political ethos) of nationalism. Music in video games progressed greatly within the life of the industry from 1972 to the present. These progressions can be seen as improvements in quality which includes an increase in the number of output channels, an increase in song length, a great improvement in the quality of timbres, and also a general shift from non programmatic music to programmatic music which fits a game. If one takes a close look, one can see that all of these improvements are either directly or indirectly resulting from improvements in the technology which is used to produce video game music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ARAM is a memory storage area which performs two main functions. The first of its functions is to store data concerning the layout of a song. This data contains information such as which voices will be played at what time, specifications concerning a song s rhythm, dynamics and structure, and any other information which is used by the sound CPU when it produces sounds. When compared to music in the mainstream musical industry, the ARAM can be seen as the musical score which musicians read in order to gain the information to play a song. Since the ARAM stores a song s structure, increasing the size of the ARAM will obviously have a profound effect on the overall length and the variations in structure of a particular song. The result is that an increase in ARAM will yield songs which are longer and contain more variations within its structure. These changes are particularly important in video games since quot;a monotonous melody which repeats every few seconds can lead to boredom and even frustration in a player. quot;1 Therefore, video game programmers are now becoming more and more aware that programming long varying songs can keep a player from becoming bored and switch to another game. Thus, this partially increases a player s liking of a particular game. The other function of the ARAM is to store information which defines the timbres in a song. Exploring The Cost Of Hydraulic Fracturing Essay Exploring the Cost of Hydraulic Fracturing in Colorado: What are the potential effects of the Tres Rio 2016 Oil and Gas Lease/Sale on Montezuma County s public health, ecological communities, and economic stability? Introduction Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique often administered by oil and gas companies in order to create fissures within subsurface shale formations. After a site is established, the initial step entails breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill moves through the rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The drill ceases immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the drill is removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination of the water source and as a safety measure. Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow. The gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and chemicals into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored. Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as an energy source. Radioactive waste water also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
