Compare And Contrast Arm Wrestling With My Father And...
In their recent work, Brad Manning and Sarah Vowell have written about more than one way to have a
close, but different relationship with their fathers. There is has always been a belief that to get along
with someone you would have normal conversations, enjoy each other s company, or share a common
interest. In the story they love their father as any other child would, but their ways of communication
are not the same and are different from a common father child relationship. Both authors use rhetorical
devices as a framework for differentiating their relationships with their fathers by characterizing them.
In both stories Arm Wrestling with My Father, and Shooting Dad, the authors use different rhetorical
strategies that allow them to exemplify their actual feelings of how they relate to their father s. They
also employ similar rhetorical devices yet are used differently. Ours had always been a physical
relationship, I suppose, one determined by athleticism and strength. Manning emphasizes how his
relationship with his father is very physical and nonverbal. Manning describes the differences in
perception of his father s arms, symbolizing the change in their relationship that was about to take
place. Whereas when Vowell states, if you were passing by the house where I grew up during my
teenage years and it happened to be before Election Day, you wouldn t have needed to come inside to
see that it was house divided, Vowell looks back on her childhood to explain that

Colonialism and Dependence Essay
Colonialism and Dependence
In quot;Imperialism, the Highest State of Capitalism quot;, Lenin warned, in refuting Kautsky, that the
domination of finance capital not only does not lessen the inequalities and contradictions present in
the world economy, but on the contrary accentuates them.
Time has passed and proven him right. The inequalities have become sharper. Historical research has
shown that the distance that separated the standard of living in the wealthy countries from that of the
poor countries toward the middle of the nineteenth century was much smaller than the distance that
separates them today.
The gap has widened. In 1850 the per capita income in the industrialized countries was 50 per cent
higher than in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lenin described the reality of his time, saying that quot;naturally...finance capital finds it most
convenient , and is able to extract the greatest profit from a subordination which involves the loss of
the political independence of the subjected countries and peoples quot;.
In his report to the Twenty second Congress of the CPUSSR in 1961,
Nikita Khruschev reached the conclusion that quot;imperialism has irrevocably lost its control over
most of the peoples of the world. quot;
According to his report, 40.7 percent of the population of the world, without counting the socialist
countries, had won their independence after 1919, and the total number of people living in colonies,
semi colonies, and dominions included, at the beginning of the 1960s, less than 3 percent of the world
s population. quot; The revolutions of national liberation have dealt a demolishing blow to the colonial
Bastille quot;,
Khruschev said. quot;Forty two sovereign states have emerged on the ruins of the colonial empires.
quot;
In this connection, it can well be said that Latin America is a prophetic zone within the Third World.
The political independence of almost all the Latin American countries dates back to the beginning of
the nineteenth century. IT WAS AS A RESULT OF THAT INDEPENDENCE,
HOWEVER, THAT LATIN AMERICA CONSOLIDATED ITS DEPENDENCE. Power passed from
the quot;foreign quot; viceroys to quot;national quot; merchants

Injustice Native American Injustice
Native Americans have been subjected to injustice since the beginning of the discovery of the New
World. Whether it s been through what is defined as genocide by some people, or being pushed out
westward by the government and having land stripped away. This maltreatment has shaped the views
of many people about Native American s rights. The topic of Native Americans has interested me
because there has been so much injustice committed against them, yet there have been little to no
attempts to amend them. I have never encountered a Native American and it made me realize how
scarce their race is at this point in time. This realization made me keen on researching the
discrimination Native Americans have been put through and what people have been doing to stop it.
Through my research, I found that there is quite a large controversy about whether or not the mass
killings of Native Americans were considered Genocide. Native Americans are still being stripped of
their holy lands, such as the Dakota Pipeline, ruining their beautiful culture and history in the process.
Native Americans have been subjected to mistreatment, however there remains a large population of
people that don t think about the inequality they are exposed to. The injustice being committed needs
to be read about in order to understand and improve the conditions that Native American tribes live in.
Upon the arrival of the Europeans, Native Americans were subjected to mass murder, or as some
people refer to it

Prozac Causes More Deaths than Any Other Drug Essay
Prozac Causes More Deaths than Any Other Drug
Something is wrong with the focus on the drug war when 200,000 people die each year from
prescription drugs, yet only 20,000 die from illegal drug use. Adverse reactions of prescription drugs
are the third leading cause of death in America. In fact, people have a seven times greater chance of
dying walking into their doctor s office than they do getting behind the wheel of their car! Every year
approximately 200,000 souls die from prescription drug reactions with another 80,000 dying from
medical malpractice (The International). Where is the FDA? Why do they continue to allow doctors to
prescribe these drugs? How could they let it get to this point? What once was believed to be a ... Show

Another man told of his horrible experience with Prozac in an anonymous letter to Ann Tracy, Ph.D.,
who was doing research on the adverse affects of Prozac. He was taking Prozac for Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome and had been using it for a year; I quite liked the unsought for increase in confidence,
sociability, etc. However, after he stopped taking it he began to experience what he called a whole host
of mental problems that I d never experienced before. He described a lack of emotional response that
soon became a full blown depersonalization disorder, which was accompanied by episodes of
derealization, extreme experiences of mental impairment, and loss of short term memory. He went to
seven of Los Angeles s top psychiatrists, each one telling him the same thing. They claimed that it
wasn t the drug and would prescribe him higher doses of Prozac and other mind altering drugs. He
began to experience nauseatingly violent dreams with a constant state of unremitting
depersonalization . . .to the point where I could barely function. It got so bad that he began to consider
suicide.
In a last resort, the writer decided to visit Dr. Murray Susser, one of the foremost authorities on the
treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After telling Dr. Susser his story about the mental illness and
the psychiatrists who had told him that it had nothing to do with Prozac, Dr. Susser said B**L S**T!

Suicide Through Social Media
Rebecca Sedwick, a 12 year old girl, committed suicide after being repeatedly cyberbullied by 15 girls
for many months. Once again, cyberbullying through social media has led to the suicide of a child. (
Phillips, Suzanne ) Social media allows hundreds of ways to communicate with others with electronic
devices. Sometimes communicating with strangers, and sometimes unanimous. This idea of constant
messages, notifications, and texts can be very dangerous when it comes to cyberbullying because the
victim feels like they have no way out, or nowhere to hide. Social media for kids and teens ultimately
has only negative effects because it leads to cyberbullying, a decrease in education, and suicide.

A large sum of suicides are indirectly or directly influenced by experiences with online aggression.
Suicide is not an uncommon result of tormenting through social media. The psychological impact [of

victims, the damage to their sense of dignity and emotional well being could persist for years. ( Jessica

Purpose And Role Of Castles In The Middle Ages
From Historians to free lance enthusiasts one of the most interesting subjects of study is the purpose
and roles of castles in the middle ages. The strong fortified castles of England and Wales have
survived centuries of war and natural disasters that would surely destroy much of today s modern
architecture. While some may think of castles and immediately connect them to fairy tales and
princess s castles played a far greater role in the military and social development of the middle ages.
Whether it was military or socially castles were a way for men to establish their power among their
equals. At the beginning of the 13th century the architecture of castles was beginning to change by
becoming more fortified and defensive. The change of castles taking on a strategic defensive ... Show

The solution was the build rounded walls that increased the walls strength and it also made it
increasingly harder for an arms man to angle the Trebuchet properly. Caerphilly was built in 1215 for
Gilbert De Clare while this castle does have strong military protection it was also built to establish De
Clares social class and enforce his dominance in the region. When building a castle, the architects not
only had to pay close attention to its fortification but also its location and its strategic advantages.
Building a castle by the water allowed for an essay access to supply s and escape routes, while
building a castle up on a hill gives you a great advantage over invading army s. While the roles of
castles in the 13th century clearly point to a military purpose that begins to change during the start of
the 14th century. Castles start to become a way for nobility to establish and maintain their social
hierarchy. (Johnson; 2002, 6) We can see a clear example of this in the architecture of castles that were

Management Introduction In this case study I will be discussing the company Wal Mart Stores: Every
Day low Prices in China. By the time 2005 rolled in China has become the most prominent country to
set up a branch for stores. China had a huge open market and it was time for the company to take
advantage of the opportunity that was happening in China. Wal Mart has become the world s largest
retail chain. This can only mean one thing and that is expansion. The strategic move to expand the
company chain stores to China was based off of the following factors. First factor was China size as
far as land, population. They also had a booming middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article experts says that Wal Mart customers saved at least 15% on a typical cart of
groceries (Farhoomand, A. F., Wang, I., September, 2008). The major issue for Wal Mart was how to
salvage the investment they made in China. They had these entire great strategic plan that worked in
other countries that seemed to have done great. By 1996 the company decided to move a branch into
China they started with a supercenter and a Sam s club. The business did not take off the way they
hoped and planned. The company started to lose money since it opened stores in China. The company
thought that the problem was that they had only one store in such a huge market. The fact of the
matter was that the Chinese government turned down the company request to expand further in
different parts of the country. The government was not convinced that Wal Mart would be successful
with all the new competition that was being implemented in other areas. Conclusion Wal Mart learned
that businesses in other countries may impact the benefit of an investment and is also learning that it s
going to be trail and error. They can only hope that they can endure their place there so that they can
have the potential to grow as a brand. I recommend that the company continue to research and
discover what is in those local stores that are driving their consumers to keep coming back for more.

The History And History Of Labor Unions
Labor unions date to the 19th century. The three labor unions were created to improve work life in the
factories. Workers had long hours, poor conditions and low wages; while their employers enjoyed vast
wealth. Labor unions are groups of workers and employees who bond together to get safer working
conditions, better wages, and reasonable hours. Most famous union is the American Federation of
labor (AFL), founded in 1886 by Samuel Gompers. Labor unions protect the rights of workers in
specific industries. Labor unions tend to be more common in manufacturing, mining, construction,
transportation, and the public sector. Labor unions have been around for a long time. The earlier
unions were called craft unions, consisting of members who worked in the same trade such as
carpenters and printers. Working people need to earn enough to support their families; good wages are
a part of that, so are health care, paid sick leave and other rights that make sure that working people
can do their jobs and take care of their families.
The working conditions were terrible factories were not the best places to work. The only light present
was the sunlight that came through the windows. Machines spit out smoke and in some factories,
workers came out covered in black soot by the end of the day. Shifts were usually 14 16 hours a day
for six days a week, with extra time required during busy periods. Workers were often required to
clean their machines during their mealtimes. However,

Australian Federalism
An appropriate recommendation for reform cannot occur without an understanding of the operation of
federalism and its strengths and weaknesses in the Australian context. In considering this, the
suitability of a federal system to the Australian environment both socially and geographically firstly
warrants acknowledgment. In a final report to the Council for the Australian Federation, it was said
that Australia s large land mass, remote locations, disparate regional areas and localised preferences
mean that a federal system of government is suited to the Australian context. It is important to note
that one of the key motivations behind the introduction of federalism to Australia was securing the
independence of states and autonomy in legislating. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overlapping and duplication of policy responsibilities across governments, and these issues that
emanate from such disorganisation in the division and distribution of powers, evinces the reality that
federalism s flaws lie in its application, not its principles. While the limitations outlined above clearly
convey a need for reform, it is for this reason that any suggestion of upheaval of a system that has the
potential to enable a geographically large and diverse country such as Australia to maintain national
unity and meet the pressures of globalisation while at the same time accommodating regional
difference should not be adopted without consideration of smaller scale reform that can improve its
operation. The limitations outlined above will thus serve as criteria for analysing the aptness of Option
2, as presented in the Terms of Reference, as the most viable proposal for federal

Colorectal Cancer Synthesis Essay
Screening for colorectal cancer is important for your health. There s a recommendation that people
over 50, particularly those with colon disease in their family history get screened however some
people just don t bother whilst others seem to test way too often. It is important to know when and
why to test.
Colorectal cancer is becoming an increasingly greater threat of death from cancer but if caught early
the survival rate increases about 90% so screening is very important as a diagnostic tool.
Colonoscopies are invasive procedures even though the risks are small. There can be bleeding, bowel
perforations or other complications especially if you are older however the advantage is that during a
colonoscopy the doctor can take a biopsy (a piece of tissue to look at in the lab), remove precancerous
polyps if they are there before they grow and spread. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tube is used about the thickness of a finger and this tube is flexible. Through this tube the doctor can
examine the lining of the bowel much better than from an x ray.
Polyps are small growths on the lining of the bowel. They don t need to be cancerous. Removal of
them is called a polypectomy and is done by putting a wire through the instrument and severing the
polyp at the base with a small, painless electric current. If these are removed early enough they don t
become cancerous so this procedure is a way of protecting against colon cancer. Usually after a couple
of days patients can begin to follow a normal routine.
Some doctors recommend that it is wise to repeat colonoscopies every five years in patients with
previous exposure to cancer whilst others feel the test is needed more frequently. Knowing when to
test becomes a difficult decision which needs to be made by a

When Thinking Of Bob Dylan
Deven Fiandaca
English IV
Mr. Wormwood
Period 4
When thinking of Bob Dylan, two immediate things come to mind. First off, and most obvious, Mr.
Dylan is known for his nasally voice. This seems to be the first topic of discussion when Bobs name
comes up. Secondly, and more importantly, Bob is known for his talent of song writing, unlike many
other artists in today s world, bob tells a story with all of his songs. Many of his songs are over 5
minutes long, for those who don t know much about music, this is extremely long. He takes time and
puts in immense effort in all of his work, which is why Bob is known for his great work and the
reason for Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this past year.
Today, I will be reviewing and analyzing the album Desire by Bob Dylan. This album was released on
January 5th, 1976. The entire albums length is 56 minutes and 13 seconds, consisting of 9 songs. This
album contains one of Bob s most famous songs, which will be the first song I will be reviewing. The
album was co written by Jacques Levy. The album is made up of many story songs. This album alone
stirred up some controversy, regarding one of his songs named Joey .
Joey was one of Bob s longest and most famous songs. The song has a length of 11 minutes. This
piece by Dylan stirred up a lot of controversy regarding the gangster Crazy Joey Gallo. Although
Gallo was accused of two murders, this song seems to be sympathizing and glorifying him. The song

Fossil Fuels Are Bad For Our Environment
Fossil fuels are bad for our environment, and in a economy that is struggling, there is no point in
pouring billions of dollars a year into an energy source that is killing our other resources. This kind of
spending and reckless destruction of our environment will eventually have to stop. The question is,
when it does what will we do? There are many other forms of alternative energy that are accessible to
us right now. These energy sources will eventually have to be used in the place of burning fossil fuels
to power our world. People have become so accustomed to the idea that burning fossil fuels is okay
because that s how it has always been . Even as I am writing this, and researching why it has to stop, I
am not in a panic because these warnings about our planets future health have been preached to me for
a long time. Someday, though, we won t have a choice to ignore this issue any longer. The limiting
factor on humans fossil fuel use will not be the exhaustion of economically recoverable fossil fuels,
but the exhaustion of the Earth s capacity to withstand the harmful byproducts of fossil fuel
combustion. Jeffrey Rissman. Rissman believes, like I do, that there will come a time that burning
fossil fuels won t be an option. When this time comes solar energy is the way to turn. Solar energy is
the best alternative energy source to power our homes and businesses for the future. One of the major
setbacks of using solar energy is the cost. It is expensive to

Rhetorical Analysis Of How Not To Respond To Virginia Tech-II
In his essay, How Not to Respond to Virginia Tech II , write Brett A. Sokolow uses the campus

to bring forth the issue of mental health. By breaking down proposed campus safety ideas, asking
rhetorical questions, and reiterating his main message, Sokolow effectively convinces college
universities and the general public that the dilemma at hand is not campus safety, but rather mental
health. For Sokolow to properly criticize the proposed campus safety ideas, he must first acknowledge
them. Without doing so would make him seem extremely biased

disparities is the lack of social services such as sickness benefits, medical services for the elderly,
better disease preventive care, and others. Many policies do not address some of the health
determinants which determine the health outcome of a particular population. Not all policies affect
negatively, such as higher tax on tobacco. Many policies, however, address the entire nation and not a
particular population which may have worse conditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Kingdon lists the first stage for health policy is the agenda setting. There are a list of concerns or
problems which officials are troubled about. In order to move an issue higher up onto the agenda list
they encounter three processes which are: Problems, proposals, and politics. Problems relate to the
issue at hand and the way those who have a say in whether or not those problems deserve more
looking into. This leads into proposals. This portion is the process in how the policy is introduced,
discussed upon, reviewed, and adopted. The politics section is focused on the political influences in

War and Deception
The responsibilities of a presidential administration to the United States should be easily defined, but
in many instances have come to be uncertain. There are two wars over the last century that have
compromised the American reputation, as well as the integrity of our people. On these two occasions
the intentions of our president have been something different than publicized to the country. The
United States as a whole was deceived by two particular leaders and their administration. Through
propaganda, selective speech, and exaggerated evidence, Presidents Lyndon Johnson and George W.
Bush manipulated the support of the nation for their bold military actions and personal agendas. In
August of 1964 there was an alleged attack by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the Vietnam War was to stop communist expansion and to protect South Vietnam from
attacks by North Vietnam and rebels within South Vietnam who hoped to unite the two countries
under communism (Nelson, 488). This war was one of the most excruciating experiences in American
history. It left us wounded and deflated as a superpower. Americans view of their country after a loss
and embarrassment like this one was now ruined. No one president is entirely responsible for the
development of this war, but Johnson was the first to send combat troops to Vietnam. Years later, after
learning the deception of the Johnson administration, blame may be placed more upon Johnson and
his manipulation of Congress and the public by publicizing a threat to our security that never existed.
The administration took advantage of Congress and exaggerated or simply created an attack on the
U.S. as an excuse to use military action on North Vietnam. Daniel Ellsburg, a government insider and
a State Department civilian during the Vietnam War, stole, copied and published the Pentagon Papers.
The Pentagon Papers were a top secret study of the U.S. decision making in Vietnam. Ellsburg worked
closely with the presidential administration during the war and was sent to Vietnam for two years to
observe the war and evaluate the pacification of the countryside (Ellsburg, VIII). Immediately after
returning from Vietnam he began to do everything in his power

Post-Tbi Case Studies
It is evident that there are some solid data for the cause of AI due to TBI along with refuting data as
well. The largest discrepancy among investigating AI in TBI patients, was the varying definitions of
what constituted as AI. As stated in the results section, these measurements and tests included, but not
limited to, baseline cortisol readings, and varying ACTH stimulation tests. It seems that those
investigators who chose to use a baseline cortisol measurement as opposed to stimulation tests,
gathered more data in support of AI post TBI. Heather et al showed a stimulation test referred to as the
metyrapone test. This test not only measures the potential increase in a cortisol level of the patient, but
also causes the shunting of endocrine products to make more cortisol due to inhibiting the further
progression of precursors to other hormones such as sex hormones. This type of stimulation test was
not found in other articles that were reviewed for this paper. It would be helpful to see how often and
how beneficial a test such as the metyrapone test is over a possible standard ACTH stimulation test
(high or low dose). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems that the low dose ACTH test was more sensitive in diagnosing AI post TBI, possibly even
with an over diagnosing of this insufficiency. (Mirzaie, et al., 2013) The high dose ACTH test also had
differing results depending on when the samples were taken from the patients; 30 min or 60 min post
administration. A 60min sample seemed to have given the strongest correlation between TBI and a
resulting AI in the patient. (Bernard, Outtrim, Menon, Matta,

How Has Barbie Changed Pop Culture
The message the ever so popular Barbie doll has been trying to push to children all over the world has
varied in a way over the years. In 1959, when Barbie was first released, it was all about the girly
barbie and how women should look like and what they have to do, kids were playing with a doll that
had an ideal body and expectations barbie put in their minds were intangible.
Barbie s image has changed overs the years in effort to keep up with the change in pop culture. In the
1960 s, Barbie wore designer clothes and took most of her inspiration from the First Lady Jacqueline
Kennedy, as well as wearing mini skirts and white go go boots. During the 1970 s Barbies attire was
very much fitting for the glitz and glamour of the decade. Even Barbie s face and body have
transformed with the styles. The first Barbie doll had heavily made up eyes that looked to the side, but
by 1961 she had a more natural look, and her big, blue eyes looked straight out. Many people had
criticized Barbie s figure as being impossible for a real woman, so in 1999 Mattel introduced a doll
with a more convincing shape. Like the changes in her fashions, these changes reflected the changing
look of women through the decades, evolving from the made up and glamorous look of the 1950s ...

The Dark Sun Research Paper
About 22 years ago WWIII began. They say the world population dropped from 7.5 billion to about 2
billion. Then 1 year later The Dark Sun rose. The Dark Sun is a terrorist group lead by Emperor
Sivorisk. They rose from the ashes of the world, and they are the only ones in history to ever achieve
what any super villain wants... world domination.
Many believe it was The Dark Sun that started WWIII, but The Dark Sun told everyone that it was a
place called the US, however nobody remembers a place called that so nobody believes them.
Although rumors say that it was a land of freedom. The year is believed to be 2038, but The Dark Sun

We use to live in the east part before we set out. Since everyone gave up after 2030 security has
loosened... a little. Which made it possible for us in 2035 to find and hide in a secret abandoned
underground US military base. Which is where they got everything from 9mms to drones. We could
see why The Dark Sun hasn t found this place. We wouldn t have found it if Thunder hadn t trip on a
rock that covered a lever that open a secret door made from boulders in the side of the cliffside the rest
of us were sitting up against. We got everything we needed for our first and last mission.
Phase 1 is to find the HQ of The Dark Sun, phase 2 was to kill General Versinik, phase 3 is to attack
the HQ and free the world. Phase one took years, but we finally found it. It was located in
southernmost part of The Forgotten Lands. Phase two was a success, as far as we know. When killshot
and Dashboard arrived at the base they rounded up everyone else and began to plan the attack on The
Dark Sun HQ.
So what is the plan? asked 50

Regional Integration And International Business
There are many definitions that could pertain to what Regional Integration means depending on the
context, but generally it implies two things. First, integration can be the combination of parts into a
whole or in other words it could mean the completion of an object by combining parts together and
secondly region suggests an area having definable boundaries or characteristics. Having both regional
integration combined in the context of international business, implies the attempt to create free trade
between two of more nations, becoming a staple to harmonizing tariff rates, freedom of movement of
goods and services, persons and capital. The need for regional integration dates back all the way to
ancient civilizations from allowing for its economic prosperity, political influence, and recently for its
creation and maintaining peace amongst nations. With a law of this magnitude it is important for
business persons to be aware when conducting foreign business in an integrated region, because it is
the integration law that supersedes a countries law, an example could be Germany s law could be on a
lesser level then the law of the European Union. Now the magnitude of the integrated region can be
evaluated on the agreed upon level between countries, there are currently six progressive levels of
regional integration starting with Free Trade Area, and building upon the free trade area each level
adds additional laws that would help create a closer relationship between two nations

Montgomery´s Bus Boycott Essay
Commonly, Rosa Park s arrests for refusing to yield her seat on a bus for a White man is a popular
misconception of being the primary stimulant that kindled the uproar of the historical boycott of
Montgomery s buses known today. Contrarily, unprecedented, racially provoked violence, and
discriminative and segregated events prior to Parks conviction motivated leaders to organize their
communities for the challenge to break barriers of government s disregards to Negro s rights and race
equality. Parks was the catalyst that spread to the community for the immediate need for change.
Despite, Negroes limited sources, and assumptions they were impressionable and unintelligent;

However, many constituents turned activists back then participated in the actions of not taking any
public transportation so they can get the recognition of their magnitude in society from the counter
race. Consequently, the success of the word of mouth mission for equality enforced Montgomery
federal court ruled that any law requiring racially segregated seating on buses violated the 14th
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That amendment, adopted in 1868 following the American Civil
War (1861 65), guarantees all citizens, regardless of race, equal rights and equal protection under state
and federal laws. The city appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which upheld the lower court s
decision on December 20, 1956. Montgomery s buses were integrated on December 21, 1956, and the
boycott ended. It had lasted 381 days. Obviously, the steady involvements of community members led
to their victory, proved people can exercise their First Amendment rights in a civil manner, and
effectively execute an imperative mission such as boycott or sit ins. Second, it s not what you say it s
how you say it. In the scenario of civil rights issues, it was more of who said it. Historical civil rights
activists back then can move a crowd without saying a word. Their presents and status alone can

Fair Punishment Analysis
Paper 1
In the 1983 study conducted by William Samuel and Elizabeth Moulds, it was revealed that there was
an agreement among a widespread group of people on the topic of fair punishment for certain crimes.
This study was a statewide survey involving 753 residents in the state if California. All of the people
selected were 18 years and older, and were chosen randomly based on their telephone numbers. This
study was conducted by professional telephone interviewers over a period of nine days. The residents
were asked a series of questions involving different crimes and punishment options. The results
showed that majority of the recommend sentences made by the residents, were less severe than the
California Penal Code. The researchers also looked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article looked at the differing ideas of social dominance theory along with the beliefs in the
deterrence and retribution models. This study included 401 undergraduate students from the
University of California (UCLA). Over half of the participants were female, and included a diverse
make up of Asian, Hispanic, White, and Black students. The results supported the hypothesis that the
public support for harsher punishment is primarily motivated by criminal deterrence. The social
dominance theory also defends the use of severe punishment, which was justified by moral arguments.
This is a descriptive type of research since it is quantitative in nature. Since it uses statistical tools to
help assist with the interpretation of the results. It is also considered to be a cross sectional study,
considering all the data was considered at one time. The method of reasoning is deductive since the
researchers started with a theory before collecting data. The unit of analysis was the individuals
themselves. It was concluded in the article that many people choose to support more severe
punishments because of the concept from the deterrence

A Growing Number Of Studies Essay
A growing number of studies (e.g. (Kowsari and Zerriffi, 2011; O. R. Masera et al., 2000)) investigate
the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that would influence
household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel switching to the modern
sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of household energy choice and
fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy Stacking Models (Elias and Victor,
2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and Mearns, 1988; O. Masera et al., 2000). These
models categorize energy resources into modern, transitional and traditional fuels given that different
cooking fuels are available in the region. Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as
superior because the inherent qualities of these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency
and sustainability when compared to the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the
transitional period; a period where traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern
fuels.
The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the
household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. However, the energy ladder model of
perfect substitutability among the cooking fuels with respect to the income fails to be supported by
most empirical evidence (Heltberg, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Lee et al.,

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Arm Wrestling With My Father And... In their recent work, Brad Manning and Sarah Vowell have written about more than one way to have a close, but different relationship with their fathers. There is has always been a belief that to get along with someone you would have normal conversations, enjoy each other s company, or share a common interest. In the story they love their father as any other child would, but their ways of communication are not the same and are different from a common father child relationship. Both authors use rhetorical devices as a framework for differentiating their relationships with their fathers by characterizing them. In both stories Arm Wrestling with My Father, and Shooting Dad, the authors use different rhetorical strategies that allow them to exemplify their actual feelings of how they relate to their father s. They also employ similar rhetorical devices yet are used differently. Ours had always been a physical relationship, I suppose, one determined by athleticism and strength. Manning emphasizes how his relationship with his father is very physical and nonverbal. Manning describes the differences in perception of his father s arms, symbolizing the change in their relationship that was about to take place. Whereas when Vowell states, if you were passing by the house where I grew up during my teenage years and it happened to be before Election Day, you wouldn t have needed to come inside to see that it was house divided, Vowell looks back on her childhood to explain that ... Time has passed and proven him right. The inequalities have become sharper. Historical research has shown that the distance that separated the standard of living in the wealthy countries from that of the poor countries toward the middle of the nineteenth century was much smaller than the distance that separates them today. Whether it s been through what is defined as genocide by some people, or being pushed out westward by the government and having land stripped away. This maltreatment has shaped the views of many people about Native American s rights. The topic of Native Americans has interested me because there has been so much injustice committed against them, yet there have been little to no attempts to amend them. I have never encountered a Native American and it made me realize how scarce their race is at this point in time. This realization made me keen on researching the discrimination Native Americans have been put through and what people have been doing to stop it. Through my research, I found that there is quite a large controversy about whether or not the mass killings of Native Americans were considered Genocide. Native Americans are still being stripped of their holy lands, such as the Dakota Pipeline, ruining their beautiful culture and history in the process. Native Americans have been subjected to mistreatment, however there remains a large population of people that don t think about the inequality they are exposed to. The injustice being committed needs to be read about in order to understand and improve the conditions that Native American tribes live in. By 1996 the company decided to move a branch into China they started with a supercenter and a Sam s club. The business did not take off the way they hoped and planned. The company started to lose money since it opened stores in China. The company thought that the problem was that they had only one store in such a huge market. The fact of the matter was that the Chinese government turned down the company request to expand further in different parts of the country. The government was not convinced that Wal Mart would be successful with all the new competition that was being implemented in other areas. Conclusion Wal Mart learned that businesses in other countries may impact the benefit of an investment and is also learning that it s going to be trail and error. Workers had long hours, poor conditions and low wages; while their employers enjoyed vast wealth. Labor unions are groups of workers and employees who bond together to get safer working conditions, better wages, and reasonable hours. Most famous union is the American Federation of labor (AFL), founded in 1886 by Samuel Gompers. Labor unions protect the rights of workers in specific industries. Labor unions tend to be more common in manufacturing, mining, construction, transportation, and the public sector. Labor unions have been around for a long time. The earlier unions were called craft unions, consisting of members who worked in the same trade such as carpenters and printers. Working people need to earn enough to support their families; good wages are a part of that, so are health care, paid sick leave and other rights that make sure that working people can do their jobs and take care of their families. In considering this, the suitability of a federal system to the Australian environment both socially and geographically firstly warrants acknowledgment. In a final report to the Council for the Australian Federation, it was said that Australia s large land mass, remote locations, disparate regional areas and localised preferences mean that a federal system of government is suited to the Australian context. There are many other forms of alternative energy that are accessible to us right now. These energy sources will eventually have to be used in the place of burning fossil fuels to power our world. People have become so accustomed to the idea that burning fossil fuels is okay because that s how it has always been . • 24. War and Deception The responsibilities of a presidential administration to the United States should be easily defined, but in many instances have come to be uncertain. There are two wars over the last century that have compromised the American reputation, as well as the integrity of our people. On these two occasions the intentions of our president have been something different than publicized to the country. The United States as a whole was deceived by two particular leaders and their administration. Through propaganda, selective speech, and exaggerated evidence, Presidents Lyndon Johnson and George W. Bush manipulated the support of the nation for their bold military actions and personal agendas. In August of 1964 there was an alleged attack by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of the Vietnam War was to stop communist expansion and to protect South Vietnam from attacks by North Vietnam and rebels within South Vietnam who hoped to unite the two countries under communism (Nelson, 488). This war was one of the most excruciating experiences in American history. It left us wounded and deflated as a superpower. Americans view of their country after a loss and embarrassment like this one was now ruined. No one president is entirely responsible for the development of this war, but Johnson was the first to send combat troops to Vietnam. Years later, after learning the deception of the Johnson administration, blame may be placed more upon Johnson and his manipulation of Congress and the public by publicizing a threat to our security that never existed. The administration took advantage of Congress and exaggerated or simply created an attack on the U.S. as an excuse to use military action on North Vietnam. Daniel Ellsburg, a government insider and a State Department civilian during the Vietnam War, stole, copied and published the Pentagon Papers. The Pentagon Papers were a top secret study of the U.S. decision making in Vietnam. Ellsburg worked closely with the presidential administration during the war and was sent to Vietnam for two years to observe the war and evaluate the pacification of the countryside (Ellsburg, VIII). • 26. Post-Tbi Case Studies It is evident that there are some solid data for the cause of AI due to TBI along with refuting data as well. The largest discrepancy among investigating AI in TBI patients, was the varying definitions of what constituted as AI. As stated in the results section, these measurements and tests included, but not limited to, baseline cortisol readings, and varying ACTH stimulation tests. It seems that those investigators who chose to use a baseline cortisol measurement as opposed to stimulation tests, gathered more data in support of AI post TBI. Heather et al showed a stimulation test referred to as the metyrapone test. This test not only measures the potential increase in a cortisol level of the patient, but also causes the shunting of endocrine products to make more cortisol due to inhibiting the further progression of precursors to other hormones such as sex hormones. This type of stimulation test was not found in other articles that were reviewed for this paper. It would be helpful to see how often and how beneficial a test such as the metyrapone test is over a possible standard ACTH stimulation test (high or low dose). ... A 60min sample seemed to have given the strongest correlation between TBI and a resulting AI in the patient. (Bernard, Outtrim, Menon, Matta, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1959, when Barbie was first released, it was all about the girly barbie and how women should look like and what they have to do, kids were playing with a doll that had an ideal body and expectations barbie put in their minds were intangible. Barbie s image has changed overs the years in effort to keep up with the change in pop culture. In the 1960 s, Barbie wore designer clothes and took most of her inspiration from the First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, as well as wearing mini skirts and white go go boots. During the 1970 s Barbies attire was very much fitting for the glitz and glamour of the decade. Even Barbie s face and body have transformed with the styles. The first Barbie doll had heavily made up eyes that looked to the side, but by 1961 she had a more natural look, and her big, blue eyes looked straight out. Many people had criticized Barbie s figure as being impossible for a real woman, so in 1999 Mattel introduced a doll with a more convincing shape. Like the changes in her fashions, these changes reflected the changing look of women through the decades, evolving from the made up and glamorous look of the 1950s ... • 30. Regional Integration And International Business There are many definitions that could pertain to what Regional Integration means depending on the context, but generally it implies two things. First, integration can be the combination of parts into a whole or in other words it could mean the completion of an object by combining parts together and secondly region suggests an area having definable boundaries or characteristics. Having both regional integration combined in the context of international business, implies the attempt to create free trade between two of more nations, becoming a staple to harmonizing tariff rates, freedom of movement of goods and services, persons and capital. The need for regional integration dates back all the way to ancient civilizations from allowing for its economic prosperity, political influence, and recently for its creation and maintaining peace amongst nations. With a law of this magnitude it is important for business persons to be aware when conducting foreign business in an integrated region, because it is the integration law that supersedes a countries law, an example could be Germany s law could be on a lesser level then the law of the European Union. Now the magnitude of the integrated region can be evaluated on the agreed upon level between countries, there are currently six progressive levels of regional integration starting with Free Trade Area, and building upon the free trade area each level adds additional laws that would help create a closer relationship between two nations ... This study included 401 undergraduate students from the University of California (UCLA). The results supported the hypothesis that the public support for harsher punishment is primarily motivated by criminal deterrence. The social dominance theory also defends the use of severe punishment, which was justified by moral arguments. This is a descriptive type of research since it is quantitative in nature. Since it uses statistical tools to help assist with the interpretation of the results. It is also considered to be a cross sectional study, considering all the data was considered at one time. • 34. A Growing Number Of Studies Essay A growing number of studies (e.g. (Kowsari and Zerriffi, 2011; O. R. Masera et al., 2000)) investigate the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that would influence household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel switching to the modern sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of household energy choice and fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy Stacking Models (Elias and Victor, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and Mearns, 1988; O. Masera et al., 2000). These models categorize energy resources into modern, transitional and traditional fuels given that different cooking fuels are available in the region. Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as superior because the inherent qualities of these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency and sustainability when compared to the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the transitional period; a period where traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern fuels. The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. However, the energy ladder model of perfect substitutability among the cooking fuels with respect to the income fails to be supported by most empirical evidence (Heltberg, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Lee et al., ...
