This study evaluated the effects of resin salve from the Norwegian spruce tree (Abilar®) on healing small traumatic skin defects in two male patients. Photographs were taken of the skin defects before and every two to four days during treatment. The defects were treated by applying the resin salve every second day and covering with a dressing. Both skin defects healed satisfactorily within 26 and 32 days without complications. The study concluded that the resin salve is a safe, natural bacteriostatic agent that can successfully heal small traumatic skin defects at a low cost.

Small traumatic defects, besides surgical treatment, may heal
spontaneously with the use of antimicrobial and/or wound
healing products. We used resin salve from the Norwegian
spruce tree* to promote the healing of lower extremity skin
defects.
 We present two cases of male patients,
62 and 65 years old, with traumatic skin
defects in the lower extremity with
conservative treatment without any
concomitant situation or disease.
 We applied resin salve from the
Norwegian spruce tree* every second
day and covered with an adhesive
dressing.
 The patients signed a consensus form
after the appropriate consultation.
 Photographs and wound cultures were
taken before the first application.
Additional photographs were taken
every two days.
 We evaluated wound healing by using
simple digital photography processing
software.

RESULTS- CONCLUTION
The healing process was satisfactory, with
stable evolution of wound healing and no
complications.
Resin salve from the Norwegian spruce tree*
is a safe natural bacteriostatic and a low cost

1) The study examined the effect of surgical treatment without antibiotics for experimentally induced peri-implantitis around four different implant types in dogs. 2) After 40-50% bone loss was created, surgical cleaning of the implant surfaces was performed without antibiotics. 3) Two TiUnite implants were lost after surgery. Turned, TiOblast and SLA implants showed bone gain, while TiUnite implants showed additional bone loss. Peri-implantitis resolved around turned and TiOblast surfaces. 4) The outcome of peri-implantitis treatment was influenced by the implant surface characteristics. Resolution was possible without antibiotics but some surfaces fared better than others.

Open fractures of the tibial diaphysis are common injuries that require urgent treatment to prevent infection and achieve bone union. The treatment priorities include addressing life threats, administering antibiotics and tetanus prophylaxis, debriding wounds, stabilizing fractures, and covering soft tissue defects. Surgical management often involves external or internal fixation along with soft tissue reconstruction using flaps or grafts. Despite treatment, complications like infection, nonunion, and malunion are common, especially with higher grade open fractures and bone/soft tissue loss. The goals of treatment are to prevent sepsis, achieve bone union, and restore function.

This case series studied the outcomes of augmenting extraction sockets in the aesthetic zone with acellular dermal matrix and allogenic bone substitute. Six patients requiring extraction of upper central incisors underwent socket augmentation after extraction. Four months post-operatively, sufficient bone had formed to allow placement of dental implants with primary stability of 35N or more, enabling a one-stage surgery rather than additional augmentation. The technique resulted in less invasive, less traumatic, and more cost-effective treatment for patients needing implants in the aesthetic zone after tooth extraction.

A 62-year old man presented with right otalgia, purulent otorrhea, ear loss, and a grade III right facial nerve palsy. He had a history of diabetes and prior ear surgery. Imaging showed opacification of the right middle ear and mastoid cavity with osteolysis of the facial canal. He was diagnosed with malignant external otitis caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Treatment included antibiotics, steroids, and exploratory tympanotomy. After surgery, his facial nerve function improved. Malignant external otitis is a severe infection seen in diabetic patients that can affect the facial nerve. Prompt treatment with antibiotics and surgery is needed to resolve the infection and associated paralysis.

This document reports on the first case of a cemento ossifying fibroma of the paranasal sinus treated with radiation therapy in a human. A 45-year-old female presented with a large maxillary tumor involving the bilateral maxillary sinuses and orbit. Surgery was deemed unfeasible due to the extensive size and involvement of surrounding structures. Radiation therapy was administered, achieving a dose of 50Gy over 5 weeks. Follow-up showed decreased symptoms, tumor volume reduction from 250cc to 170cc, and no significant adverse effects, demonstrating radiation as a potential treatment option when surgery is not possible.

This document summarizes a study investigating the effects of genistein, a soy isoflavone with anti-inflammatory properties, on articular cartilage. Genistein was found to up-regulate collagen type II expression in articular chondrocytes from the superficial and middle zones of cartilage in a dose-dependent manner. While genistein cannot cure osteoarthritis, the results indicate it has bioactivity and safety, suggesting potential as a treatment. Future work will investigate combining genistein with TGF-β3 and IL-1β over longer time periods.

Several solutions have been proposed, but the results achieved to date are far from being satisfactory. New approaches, such as intra-articular delivery of cells (including mesenchymal stromal cells), have been proposed. Among the many sources, the adipose tissue is considered very promising. We evaluated the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of a single intra-articular injection of autologous and micro-fragmented adipose tissue (MFAT) in 130 dogs with spontaneous OA. MFAT was obtained using a minimally invasive technique in a closed system and injected in the intra- and/or peri-articular space. Clinical outcomes were determined using orthopedic examination and owners’ scores for up to 6 months. In 78% of the dogs, improvement in the orthopedic score was registered 1 month after treatment and continued gradually up to 6 months when 88% of the dogs improved, 11% did not change, and 1% worsened compared with baseline. Considering the owners’ scores at 6 months, 92% of the dogs significantly improved, 6% improved only slightly, and 2% worsened compared with baseline. No local or systemic major adverse effects were recorded. The results of this study suggest that MFAT injection in dogs with OA is safe, feasible, and beneficial. The procedure is time sparing and cost-effective. Post injection cytological investigation, together with the clinical evidence, suggests a long-term pain control role of this treatment. Epidemiological studies show this association, as well as studies showing increased risk for those with high prepubertal UV exposure through migration. Data is presented on the number of moles in children relating to sun exposure and holidays in sunny locations. Differences are noted in children's skin that could increase risk, such as structure of ridges exposing more stem cells. UV-induced DNA damage is also more likely to occur in children's melanocytes and keratinocytes due to this skin structure.
