How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary
texts?
§ The brief that was given at the
beginning of this project was to
create the main task, the trailer,
a website and a film poster. This
is called synergy and each
product can help promote the
film itself, whilst also selling
merchandise from the website
for example for an even higher
profit. I made sure that all three
products had a sense of
continuity, for example the
characters are the same actors
and the colour scheme is the
same in all three.
§ A key concept that I kept continuous
throughout the making of all three
products is the fonts and title. This
is very important because instead
of just being a font, the title
becomes a recognisable logo for
the consumer which they can find
easier when shopping or browsing
the internet for example. My title
has a very distinctive font in which
I spent a long time creating on
Photoshop.
§ As shown, the website has the logo
or film title in the corner of every
page, the logo itself which is at the
top is very distinctive because of
the ghosts head behind it. The
poster has the title in a bold
colour and the trailer, along with a
jumping sound effect, shows the
logo at the end.
§ The combination of my main
product and ancillary tasks
worked very well because of the
colour scheme, also the lighting.
When filming, I had to write a lot
of notes because the scenes
were not being shot in the order
that they would be edited. This is
because I had to wait for the sun
to just set and then scene the
scary scenes, which I still did not
have much time for before it got
too dark. However I feel that this
combines with my ancillary tasks
well because they are both also
very dark. Shown on the right are
stills from the trailer showing the
dark feel, also the website
layout.
§ I feel that the website and film
poster really promote the trailer
and film itself, this is because of
the involvement of the website.
For example there are options
for the consumer to find out
information on the actresses by
clicking on their images. Also, the
website has a behind the scenes
and bloopers video, allowing the
audience behind the scenes will
make them feel closer to the
actors and storyline. This then
leads them to be more familiar
with the logos and posters and
making the watch the film , buy
the film and use word of mouth
to help promote it.
