Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Acetabularia Information For Class 9 .docxvaibhavrinwa19
Acetabularia acetabulum is a single-celled green alga that in its vegetative state is morphologically differentiated into a basal rhizoid and an axially elongated stalk, which bears whorls of branching hairs. The single diploid nucleus resides in the rhizoid.
2. My poster, magazine and trailer utilize the conventions of a real media product to
make them look more professional. First is my film poster which uses the main
conventions of a real poster to feel like it’s a real one. This includes a film title and
placing that in the middle of the poster, a character image in the middle too to tell the
audience that this character is the main character, a slogan that complements the
atmosphere of the movie and a billing block including all the information on actors and
directors to attract the audience that would be familiar of the works done by those
directors.
There are some conventions I developed to make my poster feel more unique to
others. This includes placing my character image in front of the film title which
emphasizes the importance of that character by telling the audience that he is more
important than the film title it self. Placing the film title at the top also develops the
usual conventions of a poster which would usually place it at the bottom of the poster.
Doing this and making it larger than usual gives my film title the attention it needs due
to the character image being in front of it.
Placing a secondary character at the bottom left hand corner challenges conventions,
and by having his head facing away from the audience challenges conventions too
indicating that he must be the villain of the story due him braking the film convention of
characters facing forward.
How does my Poster use, develop or challenge the
forms and conventions of real media products?
3. How does my Magazine use, develop or challenge the
forms and conventions of real media products?
I had also tried following the more important conventions of a magazine cover too. This helped to
make my magazine look more professional.
The conventions I followed were the placement of my masthead which is a very basic convention
followed by most if not all magazine covers. Making the puff stand is another convention magazine
covers use because it draws the readers attention to it so it’s best to use to promote something
whether it be used to promote another issue or like what I did which was inform my readers of a ticket
they could win. Another convention I followed was overlapping the main tagline over the main image
so that it can be easily seen. I feel that it looks good but the font size and style are a bit uninteresting
due to the font looking really bland and unappealing. I thought of adding some thumbnail images to fill
in that space and to make the magazine cover more visually appealing. I used it to promote other
movies and give my readers an idea of what is included in this magazine issue, this made it look like
other film magazines. Adding a barcode is a very simple convention that should be followed because
of how it adds that realism of that it can be bought along with adding the price tag. Adding an issue
number implements more realism to the magazine by implying that there are more out there .
Following the conventions of a magazine cover was the best way to be able to make my magazine
cover more appealing and look professional. Challenging them would of made the cover look armature
but developing does make the magazine cover stand out and feel unique almost. Which is why I had
decided to add my thumbnail images on the side of the magazine and have my main image overlap it.
4. How does my Trailer use, develop or challenge the
forms and conventions of real media products?
For our trailer we have followed some trailer conventions so that it
could actually resemble a real trailer but there are some
conventions we felt should be left out and developed.
One of the conventions we decided to follow and
felt like it had to be done was adding a disclaimer
title at the start of the trailer. This helps us in-
form/reach out to a target audience by telling the
people who the trailer is suitable for age wise and
content wise.
We also added our company production logo to show the
audience who the film was made by and also distributed
by as well, this is a major convention to use because it
makes people aware of us and helps the company build
an overall reputation. It also makes the trailer feel like a
real movie trailer which is
The goal of all this.
Like other movie trailers we had to use camerawork to move the narrative along. We
had to think about what camera angles we wanted so that we could convey certain
types of emotions and reactions like this one was for the audience to look down on
the characters and feel have sympathy for the relationship the two characters have
here.
5. We also added some parallel mood
music in the background which really
worked well with the visuals. It really
helped to emphasize the feel of the
second half of the trailer
How does my Trailer use, develop or challenge the
forms and conventions of real media products?
where it felt more tragic and wanted to hit our audience/
viewers with some serious, sad dark emotions. This is
following the conventions of a movie trailer but we also
thought of developing the conventions of a film trailer in the
second half of it this is when we decided to make the
soundtrack upbeat and funky. This was for it to act as a
juxtaposition from what the trailer was showing so that it
could have that ironic feel to it.
Finally for the end we decided to follow film trailer
conventions by showing the title of the film and actors
involved in the film. Telling the viewers at the end of the
trailer gives them time to react to everything and judge the
film based on the trailer first rather than the name of it.
6. How effective is the combination of my main product and
ancillary text? Why do they work as a Campaign?
I feel like both my main product and ancillary text complement each
other due to how they all follow the same theme design wise. I tried to
make sure that I use the same/a similar colour scheme to all my
products so that they feel like they work together and so that my
poster, magazine and trailer actually feel like they are promoting the
product.
They work well together because the face of
the character is not revealed until the trailer so
this builds some suspense and could get
people talking about what the character looks
like.
7. What have I learned from audience feedback?
Questions asked:
What are the strengths of the trailer?
What are the weaknesses of the trailer?
Would you watch the film to this trailer?
The feedback given to us has made us learn that the story could have been more clear in terms of
which character the audience should be rooting for because they are both made out to seem the
bad guy of the story. We could of done a voice over or added more text in the trailer to get people
to understand the motive of the characters more. The soundtrack did get us the reaction we
wanted but more sound like the actors talking. That would of helped show the relationship
between characters more.

8. How did I use media technology in the construction,
research, planning and evaluation stages?
During the construction faze in terms of editing and the research, planning
and evaluation stage I used the Apple Mac computers that were provided for
me. They are a bit outdated so there were some limitations I had to work with
like the fact that the software was a bit old so I was limited with the features I
could use and some software couldn’t continue the work you was doing if you
had used an updated software but non the less I managed with those
limitations.
The software that I used for editing the movie was iMovie's
due too Final Cut Pro not responding. iMovie did offer
some great features though like it allowed us to colour
correct the my shots, I was able to slow down some cuts to
add a dramatic affect. It has its own transitions so we
decided to utilise the fade to black that was there. iMovie
wasn’t as free as we would of liked it to be because it didn’t
have as much affects as Final Cut did but it still allowed us
to edit the trailer.
9. How did I use media technology in the construction,
research, planning and evaluation stages?
The soundtrack was created in GarageBand. This software was used because
it was really easy to use whilst offering some great options when it came to
editing the sound. The features we used were trimming the clips, extending
sound clips, slowing them down and fading them in and out. We did test a few
things like slowing it down in certain moments or adding an echo for dramatic
affect but it didn’t go well so we scrapped that.
Photoshop was used for the construction of my poster and magazine. This
was really good software to use for this because of the amount of features it
contains. I was able to get the affects I wanted on my poster and magazine
and they really ended up looking real especially the magazine. I learned
how manipulate the pictures the way I wanted with options like filters where
I experimented around with the colours to get the right affect, selection tool
helping me get rid of unwanted backgrounds and many other things.
10. I also used digital technology for filming shots for the trailer. I used my phone
which is a Sony Experia Z5. I used this because it made exporting the clips to
iMovie much easier than it would have been if I used a camera. All I had to do
was upload the videos to a shared google drive account then we could
download the clips and insert them to iMovie’s for us to then edit them. It also
has 4k recording but the clips filmed in 4k were really slow when we started
playing them

11. Research was done using the internet to look at real trailers, posters and
magazine so that I could reference the conventions they use and put them into
my own work. I watched movie trailers on YouTube looking at how they are shot
and pieced together like having the soundtrack mimic the action that is being
shown.
When making my questionnaire I had to look at others to look at how they were
formatted so that mine could look more professional as well so I looked around
on google images looking a different elements from different questionnaires. I
used the printers to print out the questionnaires so that I could further do my
research on what the target audience would like.
How did I use media technology in the construction,
research, planning and evaluation stages?
The planning stages were all done on a paper but for me to put
them onto a computer I had to take a picture of them using my
phone so that I could then send them to my Google Drive
account and download them from there. The reasoning for this
was to put my planning onto my blog for me to talk about my
thought process and reasoning to doing certain things.
12. For the evaluation stage I did everything on PowerPoint but I did utilise its different
elements. I used it to embed videos, import images and sound recordings from feedback.
I also used some of the shapes that the programme has like the arrow and box shapes,
these were used to get a certain part of an image noticed so that I could annotate it. I
used both the Apple Macs and my own laptop which is a Sony Vaio for the evaluation
process due to both of them having PowerPoint and when needing to do extra work I
could finish it off on my laptop.
