- 2. To film my short film, my group and I used a Sony camera as we felt this gave us good quality shots and it had a built in microphone so that the sound was clear. Using this specific piece of equipment allowed me to develop my camera skills and learn new techniques to improve my short film overall. Cameras
- 3. Moreover, this camera allowed us to have a varied amount of shots. For example, for the majority of scenes we would shoot with the camera on a tripod so the shots were stable and clear however for certain shots such as the tracking shots we could dismount the camera and use the handle to create smooth moving shots.
- 4. For the film poster, I used an iPhone 8 to take the main image pictures as I knew I could get high-quality photos using this device. I made sure to take these photos in an area with good lighting to keep the colours clear and bright as I knew the majority of the poster would be dark/black. I wanted this contrast on the poster as I thought it would help to attract the audience and engage them with the short film.
- 5. Lighting In terms of lighting, at the start of the short film the lighting was relatively dark which echoed the sadness of the protagonist and this was then further emphasised by the soundtrack. It was important to create this particular atmosphere as it is a convention of drama films and this is what my target audience would be expecting. I made sure to use bright lighting for the main poster image so that I could contrast it with the dark background I planned on using.
- 6. Editing I then used Photoshop CC 2017 to edit and create the poster. I previously had some skills with this software however they were limited but by using it this year I was able to work on and improve these skills even more.
- 7. To edit the short film, I used Adobe Premier Pro CC 2017 as I had used this for my foundation portfolio and therefore had previous experience with the software. Some particular tools I used were the razor tool to cut certain shots at specific points and this allowed me to delete or split some shots if need be. Furthermore, I also used transitions to help the flow of my short film. For example, I used the audience transition ‘exponential fade’ as this, if put at the end of a shot, would gradually decrease the audio or, if put at the start of a shot, gradually increase it to create a steady build of music or dialogue.
- 8. In terms of sound, I used a sound effect from YouTube of an alarm at the start of the short film to get the stereotypical alarm sound which wasn’t attached to any background noise. Moreover, I used a sound effect of footsteps in my radio trailer to help build tension within the audience at start the advert. Sound
