IPC Media would be a suitable media institution to distribute the author's indie pop music magazine. IPC Media currently publishes NME, a popular UK music magazine that focuses specifically on music and features many indie pop artists. While magazines like Blender and Maxim were deemed unsuitable because they cover multiple genres and include sexual imagery, NME's content and target genre alignment makes it comparable to the author's proposed magazine. Therefore, IPC Media may be likely to also distribute an indie pop-focused magazine.

2. There is currently a gap in the distributing market for the genre of music I have chosen; indie pop. There are music magazines that include artists or bands from the genre I have chosen, but not one that only focuses on indie pop music.

3. Dennis Publishing Two Magazines published by ‘Dennis Publishing’ are: Blender Maxim

4. Blender is one of the magazines I have studied during the course of my project. It is an American music magazine. Blender Magazine is published by ‘Dennis Publishing’. The magazine started in the year of 1994. It’s statement was that the magazine was the ‘ultimate guide to music and more’

Blender was sometimes known for it’s ‘steamy’ images Other than creating a absolute slight sex appeal through my model, I never wanted to adapt the style of steamy images and I also wanted my magazine to focus on one genre of music. Apart of the magazines content consisted of the ‘best’ and ‘worst’ tracks lists. Therefore these lists discussed tracks from a number of genres.

6. International Men’s Magazine Known for it’s images of popular actresses, singers and female models. Estimated reader circulation of 2.5 million readers.

7. Although Maxim is known for featuring images of popular singers, actresses est. It is also known for these images to be ‘scantly’ dressed. It also features actresses and models, and articles that support these features; it does not just focus on music. The images this magazine is known for is not the style I wanted to adapt upon my own and I wanted my magazine to focus on one genre of music.

8. The style of both Blender and Maxim are very similar. Both magazines would not be aimed at the target audience I was aiming at. This an example of a media institution that distributes media forms, but it is not suitable for my own magazine, and would not be likely to distribute it themselves because of this reason. Both do not focus on one genre of music.

10. IPC media produces over 60 popular media brands It produces a wide variety of magazines. The main male magazines they company distributes are: Country Life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mouse breaker and NME. The main female magazines the company distributes are Look, Now, Chat and Woman; TV entertainment It was founded in 1963

11. The New Musical Express, or better known as NME is a popular music magazine in the United Kingdom The magazine is published weekly It describes itself as ‘ The Ultimate Guide to the Week in Music’

12. These artists, that have been used as the main image and feature of this magazine, are classed as indie pop artists. These artists and more from this genre are commonly featured within the magazine This shows that the publishing company ‘IPC MEDIA’ distributes magazines that are similar to my own and would therefore be a suitable company to distribute my music magazine.

13. The main image is of the music artist Florence, from ‘Florence and the Machine’. This artist is one associated with the indie pop genre.

14. IPC Media distribute a variety of magazines, but some of these, in particular NME music magazine, have great similarities to my own magazine. NME in particular features many indie-pop artists. Therefore I feel this company may be likely to distribute my own magazine.

15. In conclusion I feel there is generally a gap in the market for a magazine of mine, however there are companies such as ‘IPC Media’ that may distribute it.
