Evaluation activity 7
Looking back at your preliminary task ,
what do you feel you have learn’t in the
progression from it to the full product
Technical/ filming work
• Regarding the standard of our preliminary
work I feel our filming has improved much
more. Our use of adobe premier has moved
on. As we practiced a lot with editing our
preliminary as the first shoot we did went
wrong when it came to the final editing of our
opening sequence our skills had developed to
a fluent standard.
Font’s/ titles
• Working on the opening sequence I learn’t
much more about font’s/ titles and ways in
which to edit these with moving image.
• I also discovered the importance of having
appropriate styles of font which will attract
the target audience and work in setting the
genre of the film as this was something that
we did not use in the preliminary task.
Sound
• As our preliminary task was a silent movie we
did not work with sound or dialogue. The use
of sound/ soundtracks was really exciting to
work with and reviewing our final opening at
this stage the use of soundhas really enhanced
the atmosphere and narrative of the opening
Special effects
• Our preliminary did not use any special effects, however
neither did our final opening sequence which I think if we
had more time I would change and improve the visuals of
the opening by working with special effects.
• This I feel would of really pushed the standard of our
practical work up from were It waswhen we shot the
preliminary and edited it.
• Considering the target audience, young urban males have
become very familiarised with special effects such as cgi
and blue ray and a general shift in the quality of viewing
which means there is a level of expectancy amongst this
audience for a film to have these factors and perhaps
including them may have made the opening more
attractive to our target audience.
Story/ genre
• Reflecting back on the structure of our preliminary the
story/ narrative of the piece was very simplistic and
perhaps unclear to the viewer.
• In the opening sequence the storyline/ character has
been introduced in a much stronger way. The genre of
the film and persona of the main character, Steeze is
clear to the audience I believe this is because we did a
lot more planning and research for our opening than
we did for the preliminary task and had not defined
what genre of film interested us to re create and
explore the conventions of at that stage in our
coursework.
